Chapter Text
It was a loud night at Hexside.
It was not a weird thing, though. The thing was, that Hexside often goes big at throwing parties to celebrate their pride as one of the best schools in the entire Boiling Isles.
This night, it was one of those nights.
Everybody was so cheerful, there must not be a single student in their senior year or about to become a senior who is not here.
Amity was quite proud about what she had achieved to do while lacking time because of the grudgby team and studying for every possible upcoming test.
It was difficult, yet, she had managed to organize an amazing party to celebrate Hexside's amazing strike of good matches in Grudgby.
Surely she could have done something better, because it was not good enough. For her, it was never good enough. That is what she had learned over the years, no matter how hard she tried, she would never achieve perfection, she could only fly near the impossible and high expectations that she was supposed to reach.
Because of that, she thought she deserved to have a good time.
She was hoping that her recent issue with Boscha would not interfere with her having a great time.
She would be with her friends, and surely Boscha would also want to have a good night with the team.
She was wearing this really expensive dress that she had bought months ago. It was not really of her taste, she did not feel particularly comfortable in it, but she went dress shopping with her closest friends and they all convinced her to get it for such an important night. So, she complied.
Amity entered through the big doors into the gym which had been transformed into a ballroom alongside her teammates, everybody who had a fever for their team was cheering them up too, congratulating them for such good matches throughout the year.
It did not took that long before they started to get drunk. Of course there were teachers watching, but teenagers were good at sneaking up alcohol.
She wanted to relax so bad after such a demanding school year, that she was accepting every drink that was being handed to her.
From time to time, she would try to decide that she was drunk enough, and would try to reject any more drinks. However, her friends, especially Boscha, would convince her to keep drinking.
And really, who was she to say no?
So, she kept on drinking.
At some point, she was so exhausted and dizzy, that she barely managed to walk properly without tripping over her own foot.
She is not quite sure how she managed to reach a table where to sit down.
The loud music was starting to become too loud for her.
If it was not for the feeling that she could puke at any minute, she was feeling great. She felt so giddy and could not stop giggling at everything.
As she was sitting, she decided to close her eyes for a while, laying her head on her hands on the table, trying to rest for a while so she could recover quickly to go back to dancing with her 'awesome' friends.
She is not quite sure for how long this went on, but at some point, there was a familiar voice next to her.
"Hey Blight, drunk already?" Asked the familiar voice. She was too sleepy to guess who that could be, so she had to lift up her head in order to see who was that familiar voice talking to her.
Then she saw her, causing her to get even more smiley.
"Oh, Clawthorne, hi!" She responded.
The look on Luz's face was poetic.
She was clearly not expecting such a reaction our of her.
They had spent the entirety of all those years knowing each other arguing, bickering, bantering, over the dumbest things.
Luz was always trying to catch her attention or trying to talk to her, nevertheless, Amity could not be any less interested in her. She just wanted to be left alone. She was not interested in having a conversation with her.
Usually, she would rather not think about the reason why.
If it was related to a certain dark green haired witch that they had in common, it was unknown information to herself.
If it was not, that was also unknown information. She would not give much thought about it.
She found Luz annoying and that was the end of the discussion.
However, the alcohol effects led to her taking out her inhibitions and any remaining of bad mood.
She had decided to be all happy for the whole night, and she would.
Even if she felt dizzy. Even if she was exhausted. Even if she had long lost her friends.
"Umh, are you okay, Amity?" She asked with clear confusion.
"Sure I am! Just a little dizzy." She answered, still with a silly smile plastered all over her face. "Are you dizzy too?" She asked back.
Luz thought that Amity looked like a little kid, completely giddy and lost.
"No, I didn't drink. I'm the designated driver for the night. Where are your friends?" Luz looked for the grudgby team with her eyes, failing to locate them.
"No idea! Haven't seen 'em in a while." She replied, her eyes slightly closing, the words coming out of her mouth were quite slurred due to the alcohol in her system.
"Did they left you here on your own?"
"No! Well...Kinda!" The witch replied.
"Care to explain?" Asked Luz.
"Well, they were with me handing me drinks and everything, but then they weren't, and then I left to sit down, so technically it was me the one who left me here on my own!" Amity reasoned.
Luz took pity on her.
She had been eyeing her a while through the night. Of course, the grudgby team had everybody's attention, especially its captain, the most well-known student at Hexside, so it was not that weird for her to be following her with her eyes from time to time. But she was worried.
She had seen them drinking a lot, the teachers might be as blind as a bat, but she was not. She could see her friends practically forcing her to do shots even after she was about to walk back to the tables.
That is the reason why she approached her. She was sure Amity was going to give her some snarky comment. Yet, she was the entire opposite. The human could not quite remember a prior occasion in which she would have talked to the witch being drunk, so it felt like something completely new and unexpected to see her being nice to her.
"Here, drink this." She handed her a glass of something transparent, Amity smelled it, trying to recognize it by the smell of it.
"What is this?" She asked.
"That's water, Amity." She rolled her eyes. "It will help you to stop being dizzy." She quickly explained, using the one thing Amity had commented on.
"Really?!" She said in such an excited tone, as if it was a big deal. "Thank you so, so, so much Luz!" She smiled widely at her, before drinking from it, causing a weird feeling on Luz's chest, she could guess where that was coming from. "
The witch drank it quickly as if it was another shot.
"Ugh... It's flavorless. It doesn't taste good." She commented after drinking, a little disgusted expression on her face.
Luz snorted.
"Well, yes, it's water, it's often flavorless, Amity." She explained.
"Don't call me Amity! It makes me feel like you're mad at me." She looked offended.
"Well then, how do you want me to call you?" Luz asked her, a certain fondness in her face. It felt nice to talk to her like this, it was a shame that Amity was not conscious enough. Although, that was partly the reason why she was being nice to her.
"Some of my friends call me Ami! I'm not really fond of that one, though." The mint-haired witch thought out loud.
"But Amity, we're not friends" Luz said.
"What? Why not?" She asked, completely clueless.
Luz wanted to facepalm herself.
"I'd like to know that too" She muttered.
"Doesn't matter. Anyways, if you don't like Ami, then how do you want me to call you?"
Amity thought for a while before reaching a conclusion.
"I always wanted people to call me 'Ams'. I think it's cute." Amity smiled. Luz smiled too.
"Alright, then 'Ams' it is." They stood in silence for a moment. It was not completely awkward, but Luz was not sure what she should do. "How are you feeling now?" She inquired.
"I'm still a little dizzy. Are you dizzy too?" She repeated her question, forgetting that she had already asked that.
"No, Ams. I'm the designated driver, remember? I only drank a little. Enough to drive my friends back home safely." She explained once again. "Speaking about that, how are you going to return home?"
Amity took another moment to think about that question too.
"Boscha is driving me home. But I can't find her." She answered, looking for pink hair in the crowd.
"Do you want me to ask one of your friends about it? It's sort of late already, and you look tired." Luz offered.
"Alright! Please tell 'em I say hi!" She said, with a wide smile in her face.
Drunk Amity was surely much more smiley than Sober Amity.
"Okay, then please, stay here as I go to look for one of them." Luz stood up from her place, putting a comforting hand on Amity's shoulder before leaving.
She tried to find one of Amity's so-called friends, but it was harder than she was expecting it to be.
Finally, she saw a very drunk Boscha dancing savagely with the rest of the group.
"Hey, Herbstwald!" She tried to catch her attention, but there was no response whatsoever. "Boscha!" She called again, receiving an angry look from the magenta haired girl.
"What?! What do you want?!" She answered, clearly bothered by her presence and insistence.
"Your friend is feeling like shit, she said you're driving her home."
"So? I'm not leaving for at least another hour, tell her to wait." She answered.
Luz felt quite offended by that, and she was not even the affected person in the situation.
"I'm not telling her that! She was all alone and dizzy, about to throw up without any of you by her side. Shitty friends she has." Luz dared to say, loud enough as to not get caught in the music.
"I don't give a fuck about it! She can either wait or go home walking, or get lost, or ask someone else, I don't give a fuck, what's so hard to understand, round-ears?" She responded, completely annoyed by the conversation.
Luz did not even answer before turning her back to her and walking towards Amity's table again.
Her face was on the table just like when she had found her the first time some minutes ago.
"I found your friends." Luz commented.
"Really?! What did they say?" Amity asked, joyfully.
"You're coming with me, I'm taking you home." Luz explained.
"But what about Boscha? Does she know? I don't want to leave her hanging!" She innocently argued.
"Don't worry, she knows, I talked to her about it." Luz reassured her, as she helped her get up.
She looked for her friends, the three of them looked like they were doing great. They were having so much fun, they had had it for the entire night, actually, so did Luz, but she had wanted to sit down for a while, and since nobody else wanted to sit down with her, she went to look for a table, finding Amity on her way.
She was sure they would not want to go until the party ended in, just like Boscha said, at least an hour.
Thankfully, the Blight Manor was not that faraway from Hexside. She had already driven there once, and it was quite the straight way, hard to forget.
"Okay, so if you have everything with you, we can get going." Amity grabbed Luz's arm to gain physical support. In return, Luz gained a blush on her face.
Regardless, she still helped her walked out of the building to her car.
Once the cold wind of the night hit them, Amity breathed in deeply, satisfied with it.
"You alright?" Luz asked her, worried that she might want to throw up.
"Yes. The cold wind feels nice." Luz nodded, helping her by opening the car's door.
Once they were both inside, Luz pressed a button next to her, lowering the windows, so the cold wind would still get to Amity. Amity smiled, pleased. Consequently; Luz smiled too.
Before starting the car, Luz looked for something on her penstagram, once she found it, her fingers quickly moved, starting to write something.
"What are you doing?" Amity asked her, full of curiosity.
"I'm texting your sister so she is aware that you're going home already."
"Oh!" She was surprised, she was unaware that they knew each other "You two know each other?" she asked her.
"Yeah, we get along with each other. She's great, so is Ed."
Amity nodded, her expression looked annoyed.
Luz turned to look at her before snorting.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Ams!" She called, enlarging the 'a'. "Tell me! What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just didn't know that you were such good friends." She crossed her arms and looked outside the window.
Luz frowned in disbelief. "Ams, are you jealous?" She asked, with a snarky grin.
"No. Not at all." She responded in the same monotone voice as before, still not making eye contact with her.
"Aw! You so are." Luz laughed a little. "It's fine, you're still my favorite Blight, don't worry."
"I am?" She asked with a little voice, turning back to look at Luz again. Luz almost died right there and then from of an overdose of adorableness.
"Sure you are. You are the prettiest one." She felt bold enough to say.
"Really? People say it's Emira. I don't think I'm that pretty, to be honest." She confessed.
"Bullshit. I mean, yeah, Emira is really pretty too, but you are beautiful, Ams. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful you are." Why was she saying that? What had possessed her to say that? Did she have some sort of curse that was making say all that stuff out of nowhere? Or was it just the few shots she had drank at the beginning of the party? She was not sure.
Amity blushed. It was hard to see in the darkness of the night inside of the moving car, but she could still see it.
"Thank you." She muttered softly.
Luz smiled with fondness again.
"Whenever you want." Luz answered.
The rest of the way was quiet, but quite comfortable. She could tell Amity was fighting back the urge to fall asleep in such a tranquil moment. Her eyes always a few millimeters away from closing.
Finally, not so long afterwards, they reached her house. She got her scroll out again to text Emira.
(1) NEW MESSAGE
@Emira.Blight: Omt, Luz, is everything alright? I thought Boscha was supposed to get her home safely!
Luz answered quickly.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: Everything's alright, don't worry, Boscha just chose to be a shitty friend like usual. We're out of your place already. Can you help me with Amity?
@Emira.Blight: Sure thing, I'm omw
Luz left her scroll after that text and turned to look at Amity.
"Well, Ams, we're here already. I asked Em to take you inside, she should be here by any minute."
Amity turned to look at her, she looked obviously sleepy.
"Ohh, that was fast!" She took her purse and was about to open the door, when she turned back to her again. "Thank you so much for taking care of me, Luz. You're the best." She thanked, before hugging her.
Luz was stiff. So surprised she could not even enjoy the hug properly.
It only lasted for a moment before she got out of the door, her sister already next to the car.
"Hey cutie, thank you so much for everything. You're always taking care of us, sorry for being such a bother." Emira expressed her concern.
"Oh, don't worry, Em! You're not a bother. I didn't mind it at all. Have a good sleep." She smiled at her, Emira returned it.
Luz left back to school with a warm feeling on her chest.
On Monday, however, she tried to talk to her as per usual.
"Hey Blight! How's your day going?" She appeared out of nowhere next to her.
Amity groaned.
"Ugh, go away, Clawthorne."
And for once, she did not insist.
Well, turns out Amity was back to being sober and hating her again. Seemingly not remembering the last part of her Friday night.
It was good while it lasted, Luz supposed.
It was Monday again, although everybody knew what had happened during Friday, out of some silent pact, nobody was talking about it.
Maybe it was for the best, considering that it would be awkward to suddenly talk about the uncomfortable moment that they went through out of Luz refusing to kiss Amity at some dumb drink or dare game.
Instead, they decided to pretend like nothing had happened, so they talked about their days at school.
"I swear to Titan that guy has been annoying me lately, like, yeah, I kinda like him, but does he have to be that annoying? he's always trying to pick a fight with me!" Gus complained.
"Well, have you considered the possibility that he's doing that to catch your attention because he likes you?" Amity asked him, causing Luz to chock on her own drink.
She turned to look at her. "Are you okay?" asked Amity worried, rubbing her fake girlfriend's back as she coughed.
Luz nodded, still coughing.
On the other side, the three observers snorted.
"What?" Amity asked, completely oblivious.
"That could very much be a possibility, Amity! But I'm not sure, tell me, do you think it would be very obvious if someone who likes you is trying to catch your attention?" Gus asked her back, faking curiosity under his voice.
Luz chocked on her drink again.
Amity looked at her once again, even more concerned.
"Luz, I think you have to drink more carefully." She commented, still rubbing her back.
Luz, with teary eyes, nodded again.
The two remaining observers were trying not to look at each other, knowing they would burst out laughing if they did.
Amity took a moment to think about her answer.
"Mhm... I think so. Probably? It depends on how they're trying to catch it, how close we are, and how often they try that. From what you're saying, this guy seems to do that in a daily basis, and although your relationship is sort of strained, you're enough of acquaintances to hold a conversation with each other. I think he might have a crush on you, he just doesn't know how to express it."
Hunter and Willow could not hold it any longer, Willow was already crying through her glasses. It was too much for them.
"Seriously guys, what?" Amity asked, growing more and more confused by the minutes, she turned to look at each one of them, but no one would answer. Willow and Hunter? Laughing. Gus? Holding the laugh too. Luz? Still tearing up from her previous almost-choking episode.
"You're all insufferable. I just remembered why I didn't hang out with you." Amity pout, completely offended.
Luz held her in a half embrace by the waist.
"Aw, sorry baby, it's just... an inside joke from a long, long time. And a really stupid one, so y'all can stop laughing." Luz looked at them with murdering eyes.
"You're right, you're right, sorry." Willow answered, trying to stop laughing as she dried her tears.
"Yeah, sorry Amity. We didn't want to annoy you." Hunter apologized too.
"Right, we didn't intend to catch your attention." Gus finished, causing the other two to laugh again.
Amity looked at them disgusted.
"I feel like I have enough confidence with the three of you to tell you how much I hate you right now." She said as she stood up.
"Wait, don't go!" Luz said, grabbing her softly by the wrist.
"Sorry love, I gotta go help Em with a project from Uni. I'll talk to you later." She said, leaning to reach the level of Luz who was still seating, before pecking her on the lips. She turned after this action and walked out of the school towards her house.
Silence.
Nobody spoke.
Luz was utterly speechless to say anything.
The three witches who had been previously laughing, stood there in complete shock as well.
"Did we... Did we all see the same thing? Or do I need more magnification on my glasses?" Willow asked, taking out her glasses to clean them.
The rest of the group nodded, still in silence.
"What the actual fuck was that." Gus asked.
Luz remained silent.
"Did she...Did Amity just kiss you?" Hunter asked her.
Luz nodded, still in silent.
Her friends took a moment to evaluate what had happened.
"Well, you two did kiss after we left on Friday, right?" Willow said, only receiving another nod from Luz.
"Luz, girl, you gotta speak to us, please say something or I'm sueing Amity for breaking you." Gus approached her with a hand on her shoulder.
"I don't even know what to say." Luz responded, still looking at some spot over the street.
"Just like Willow said, you two kissed once already, but it wasn't just a peck, right?" Hunter interfered.
"Right."
"It was deeper than just a peck. Did you two talk about it after that?" He continued.
"No, we only spoke through the group chat. The way home was kinda awkward because we didn't talk at all." Luz explained.
"So she just...Got brave all of a sudden and decided to kiss you?" Gus concluded.
"I guess so." Luz shrugged.
"Couldn't it be the curse? Maybe it acted out and she kissed you because of that." Willow assumed.
"No, we read how the curse works together. She's just supposed to say what she thinks or feels, she's not supposed to physically do something about it. If it had been the curse, she would have said that she wanted to kiss her instead of actually doing it." Hunter denied by explaining.
"Hunter's right. The curse has never acted out physically, not that I can remember or think of, at least." Said the human.
They all sighed, still impressed by the situation.
Well, it seemed like something must have possessed Amity right there and then, and this time, it had not been the curse.
Luz was in her bedroom, laying on her bed.
She was staring at the ceiling as if it was the most interesting thing to ever exist.
The events of the last few days were playing on her head relentlessly.
She had kissed Amity on Friday. For them, it was usually an almost peck in the corner of their mouths when they were feeling brave and really in the mood.
This was not the case. That had been a whole kiss. And a damn good one, to say the least.
It is true that she was not expecting it to happen like that, but she did not find any other way to make her understand how much she truly wanted to kiss her, than kissing her.
The good thing is that it was closer to what she wanted, than what could have been their first kiss if she had just succumbed to Boscha's insistence. It had been just the two of them. Nobody else had been watching them. It had been their moment.
But then, after a whole weekend of pretending like it had not happened, Amity just decides to peck her (on the lips, not on the corner!) in front of their friends out of nowhere.
They were not even having an actual romantic conversation or something. She was arguing with their friends when she decided to kiss her.
Luz sighed, still in shock.
She decided to get on her scroll to try and forget about it.
However, not even a minute in, she got distracted. Her eyes locked up into a particular object in her range of sight.
Luz got up to grab it and bring it to bed with her.
She sighed again.
Fuck It. She could not pretend like nothing had happened for forever. Not if she wanted to get with her soon.
She looked for Amity's private chat before taking a photo of the object in her hands.
It was a particular staffed, purple snake that had been gifted to her by a certain mint-haired witch.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: [ATTACHED PHOTO] look at my precious daughter, her name is Stringbean
She locked the scroll's screen, awaiting for an answer as she looked at the snake. The reply came sooner than expected.
@WitchChick128: She's adorable.
@WitchChick128: If she's your daughter, does that mean she's my stepdaughter?
Luz chocked on her own saliva this time. Amity was feeling very brave, it seemed.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: wdym stepdaughter? don't be shy. she's your daughter too, you literally gave her to me
She smiled.
@WitchChick128: you're talking as if I had given birth to that staffed snake
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: well, yes! almost! you were there giving your everything while I was cheering for you in the background. peak wife giving birth + useless husband doing nothing energy
This reply took a little more to arrive.
She could see the tiny bubble appearing and disappearing, meaning that Amity was taking her time to respond.
@WitchChick128: oh so I'm your wife now? that's crazy, I thought we were still in our arranged fake dating thing, we escalated quickly to a whole marriage
Luz could feel the heat on her face.
She took a moment to think what could she respond. Would it be too much to confront her about the kiss? Maybe. But she wanted to ask so bad.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: well I mean you did kiss me goodbye today so to me that means marriage
She hit 'send', and that was it. The text was out. The text had been sent. The text had been seen.
Amity's user suddenly went offline.
Oh.
Had it been to much?
@WitchChick128: acting like you weren't getting your tongue down my throat on Friday smh
Luz gasped, completely shocked at such a blatant answer.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: THERE WAS NO TONGUE IN THAT KISS YOU LIAR WDYM BY TONGUE DOWN YOUR THROAT
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: maybe you kissed someone else on Friday and confused it with me idk sorry
@WitchChick128: no way, yours was more than enough
She gasped again.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: HUH???????!
@WitchChick128: Wait no
@WitchChick128: That came out horrible I'm sorry
@WitchChick128: it was like in a good way I promise
Luz placed a hand on her heart, regulating her breath. For a moment, she was worried it had been a bad kiss for Amity.
Wait.
In a good way?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: Oh?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: So it was a good kiss?
@WitchChick128: a lady doesn't kiss and tell
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: IT DOESN'T COUNT IF I WAS THE ONE WHO KISSED YOU
Luz could not really believe that she was actually talking about it with Amity, and in such a relaxed way. She was so scared about it, and for what? She was actually having fun with the conversation.
@WitchChick128: alright
@WitchChick128: idk what to tell you, it's been my first kiss in a long time, I probably forgot how to kiss, sorry
Oh, she was playing dirty, dirty.
Luz grinned, a smirk that held a tremendous desire of teasing her.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: Yeah?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: well I don't mind helping you practice
Amity went offline again.
Luz snorted, rolling her eyes. The fact that she knew that Amity liked her was making this funnier and also way, way lighter. There was no way she would be talking to her about it like this if she was unsure of Amity's feelings. In fact, she probably would not have kissed her if she was unsure.
@WitchChick128: oh you have no shame
@WitchChick128: like absolutely zero
@WitchChick128: I'm kinda impressed
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: ty babe
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: still not telling me what you thought about it though?
@WitchChick128: I have a thought
@WitchChick128: can I say it out loud?
Luz frowned upon the strange question.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're texting so technically not out loud
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: but yeah, sure, what is it?
@WitchChick128: haha funny, I'm not telling you then
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: WAIT NO
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: now I'm curious
@WitchChick128: it's better like that
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: no, don't be mean, I want to know
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: your girlfriend wants to know
@WitchChick128: you're not my girlfriend though
Luz's smile slightly dropped at that, she was right. She was not her girlfriend, not real, at least.
@WitchChick128: you're my wife, you said so yourself
Luz smile came back and even wider than before.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're right, how could I ever forget about that? I'm sorry, what would I do without you?
@WitchChick128: you'd die or something, you'd miss me too much
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're right
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: wait, stop distracting me, what was the thought
@WitchChick128: nah-ah, I'm not in the mood to say it anymore, sorry
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're insufferable
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: let's go back to the mood then
@WitchChick128: is that how you talk to your wife?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: yes
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: now say the thought
@WitchChick128: not in the mood
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: we were talking about kissing
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: was that the mood?
@WitchChick128: maybe
Luz blushed.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: alright, you were telling me how you haven't kissed in a while, I told you I didn't mind helping you practice, you called me shameless
@WitchChick128: you didn't have to repeat it text by text you know that right?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're making this very hard for me baby, just tell me the thought
@WitchChick128: fineee
@WitchChick128: I'm not sure about the kiss because I haven't kissed in a while
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: yeah I think I know that by now
Amity took her sweet time in texting. Luz was about to throw the scroll to the nearest wall out of the anxiety this conversation was producing her.
@WitchChick128: so why don't you come and kiss some sense into my mind
Luz absolutely gasped.
Luz went offline.
Hunter happened to go into her room with the sole purpose of bothering her since he was bored.
"Hey Luz, what are you doing?" He asked approaching her. He saw her completely shocked, a hand still on her mouth, the scroll at her feet, as she looked at it almost scared. "Are you okay?" He asked.
Luz handed her the scroll, pointing at the latest text.
Hunter squinted his eyes as he read.
Hunter gasped, borderline horrified.
They looked at each other.
Hunter left the room, leaving her completely alone.
She opened up the chat again.
@WitchChick128: i should have hold that thought, shouldn't i
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: no
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: I wanted to know
@WitchChick128: do u regret knowing?
Luz breathed in deeply, not knowing what to answer.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: why should I?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: if my wife is asking me to do something I might simply have to comply
@WitchChick128: oh?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: I'm still not forgetting about the fact that you kissed me today though
@WitchChick128: why? I just kissed you goodbye
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: well yeah, but a heads up would've been nice
The bubble appeared and disappeared.
@WitchChick128: you're right, sorry
@WitchChick128: next time I'll tell you in advance
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: NEXT TIME?
@WitchChick128: yes, next time
@WitchChick128: what's wrong Luz? I thought you'd told me you had no limits
Luz gasped.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're too brave today
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: why
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: who taught you how to flirt
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you're scaring me
@WitchChick128: I learnt from the best
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: me?
@WitchChick128: no, Emira
@WitchChick128: you're close tho
Luz rolled her eyes.
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: we've created a monster
@WitchChick128: wait no, but for real this time. I'm sorry if I kissed you without warning, Idk where that came from, sorry
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: Ams, it's ok, really
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: I just wasn't expecting it but I didn't mind it
@WitchChick128: did you like it?
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: idk, since you don't want to tell me how was my kiss, I don't feel like telling you how was yours
@WitchChick128: it was literally just a peck don't be so dramatic
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: and mine was a whole kiss do you understand how I feel right now? I feel like it was the worst kiss of your life
@WitchChick128: No
@WitchChick128: i liked it
@WitchChick128: a lot
@WitchChick128: I wouldn't mind doing it again
Luz was fighting for her life by this point.
@WitchChick128: for the sake of a situation which demands it, of course.
She tried to save it
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: bae I literally refused to kiss you for the sake of the situation what are you on about
@WitchChick128: that speaks more about you than about me, you were the one kissing me out of the public eye, sorry
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: you were BEGGING me to kiss you??????
@WitchChick128: not true, I was mad at you for not kissing me WHEN THE SITUATION ASKED FOR IT, you were the one sliding your tongue down my throat after that idk
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: THERE WAS NO TONGUE
@WitchChick128: really? I don't remember
@WitchChick128: which takes me back to my point
@The_Good_Witch_Luz: which point?
@WitchChick128: you should kiss me again so I can remember
Luz left her scroll in the little table next to her bed before getting up and leaving the bedroom.
Well! That had been too much internet for one day!
Let us rewind a little bit.
Friday night was a wild night for Amity.
After the extremely awaited kiss, her head was all light, and her brain was all fuzzy.
There was a certain funny feeling in her. It was so hard to describe, she felt so out of it, yet so conscious of her surroundings at the same time.
As they walked out of the building, the silence reigned over them, it was not so much as discomfort as it was actually a lack of coherent words.
What is one supposed to say after the person of one's infatuation complies and kisses?
"Thank you"? "Oh"? Nonsense.
That makes the air even more awkward.
Instead, she took another awkward road, the road of utter silence.
She wanted to hold Luz's hand, but would that be too much? Or was the sole action of not acting casually made the situation look like it was a mistake? She did not want that thought to cross over Luz's mind. Not even once.
As they kept on walking, they passed through a group of teenagers who seemed to have decided to hang out afterwards the event, near the building.
Amity, used to acting affectionately with her fake girlfriend, lightly brushed Luz's hand with her fingertips. This caused an electric sensation. The human's hand slightly backed up, surprised by the action, the witch's, sadly pulled away, until it was held firmly by the other girl's.
So, it went like that the rest of the way. For the most part, they decided to walk, the chilly night was nice enough for them to not suffer from the temperature, producing a calm walk home for the two of them. At some point, they had to part ways. After the situation with Odalia, they were a hundred percent more careful with showing themselves near the manor. The only reason why they walked hand in hand all the way there, was because it was almost midnight already, so it was not that perceivable. That, and the fact that most of the people who were outside at that hour were also students who were returning from the screamesse. Therefore, it was safe enough for them to act like that. In fact, they sort of had to after the little scene they had pulled up back at the game. They could not risk themselves to look like they were mad at each other.
Amity found the courage to speak once they stopped midway.
"Well, this is my way." She said. Luz nodded.
"Be safe, and text me when you arrive." She asked, Amity nodded back.
They were not quite sure what they should do next. However, Amity decided to act casually, and left a soft kiss on her fake girlfriend's cheek.
"Goodnight, Luz." She said before heading to her house.
"Goodnight for you too, Ams." The lack of a petname for this situation seemed to be for the better.
They did not want to overdo it, resulting in an awkward time for either of them
Afterwards, once Amity arrived, trying to make the less amount of noise possible, she headed to her room.
After closing her door, she approached her bed, and grabbed her biggest pillow.
It was so soft, yet heavier than it looked like. She got it closer to her face, and once it was covering it, she screamed at the top of her lungs in it, relieving all the things she was feeling but pretending not to.
She laid on her bed for a whole minute, staring at the ceiling with her mind completely blank.
She turned to look at her scroll, and opened up two chats, one after the other.
[The_Good_Witch_Luz]
@WitchChick128: Hey Luz, I'm home already, text me when you're there, sleep tight
She pressed 'send', later on, she opened up another chat.
[Edric.Blight, Emira.Blight]
@WitchChick128: bedroom, NOW
It must have taken barely two minutes before both of them opened up her door at the same time, breaths shaky as a result from running as quickly as possible.
"Are you okay?" Emira asked, concerned, approaching her.
"Is everything alright?" Asked Edric at the same time.
Emira checked on her quickly, looking for any trace of bruises, hot temperature, anything.
"I'm fine, I'm fine! Close the door!" Amity ordered in a whisper.
Once Edric closed the door, the two of them sat on her bed with her.
"So? Why did you text us?" Her sister inquired.
Amity took a deep breath, preparing mentally for the words that were about to come out of her mouth, words that she still could not believe.
Her siblings were patient enough to wait for her without rushing her to speak.
"Luz kissed me." She said.
Her twins, who are very much known for their discretion, yelled.
"Luz did what?!" They screamed out of surprise.
Amity rushed to cover their mouths as she walked towards her bedroom door.
"Careful!" She said, before uncovering their mouths. "Luz kissed me."
They rushed to covered their mouths for themselves in order not to scream again.
"How?!" Emira shouted-whispered.
"Was it good?!" Edric shouted-whispered as well. Each one of them giving relevance where they thought it was due.
Amity covered her face in embarrassment before answering.
"I still can't believe it happened." She mumbled.
Emira softly removed her hands out of her baby sister's face.
"Mittens, mittens, tell us how did it happen, please." She asked.
"And tell us if it was good!" Edric insisted, receiving a look from his twin, to which he shrugged his shoulders.
"Basically, we were playing a stupid game of drink or dare after the screamesse finished. It was the whole grudgby team plus some other people who I've seen and never seen before in my life. I didn't want to be there, but the guys seemed okay with it, so I accepted. All in all, it was going good, until the bottle landed on Boscha and Luz, making Boscha be the one to dare, and Luz had to either accept or drink." She explained, as the twins listened patiently.
-"So, Boscha dared Luz to kiss me-" Amity was saying, before being interrupted by Edric's gasp.
"And she kissed you! Oh my Titan!" He interrupted, receiving a look from his younger sister this time.
"No. Actually, she rejected the kiss, and decided to drink, so I had to drink too."
"What?!" The twins whispered, making Amity nod at them, as if she was trying to say that she had thought the same.
"And of course, I was hurt. Because what do you mean everything was going great between the two of us, all flirty and everything, and the one time we have an excuse to kiss, she doesn't want to kiss me? I mean, I get that she may not like me, but I still feel like she might be physically attracted to me, at least." She considered.
The twins exchanged looks.
"So? How did you two kiss if you chose to drink?" Edric made her continue.
"So, the game finished a little after that, I headed to the rooftop to have some fresh air and be alone. I'm not sure what she was doing in the meantime, because she wasn't there until some minutes later. Anyways, she tried to talk to me but I was mad, mad. We started arguing and I asked her why she didn't kiss me, if I was so ugly that she didn't want to do it. Finally, after some push and pull, she ended up kissing me. When we pulled away, she told me that the reason was that she didn't want to kiss me in front of everyone, because she thought I deserved better than that." She finished explaining, causing the twins to gasp again.
They all had to take a moment to analyze the situation. Emira took a deep breath before speaking.
"Amity, honey, there's no way she isn't in love with you."
Amity rolled her eyes.
"She isn't in love with me, Em. She probably doesn't even like me like that." She argued.
The twins exchanged looks again.
"Mittens, the girl is head over heels for you. It's not just physical attraction. If it was, she would've kissed you when she had the opportunity back in the game." Edric tried to explain.
"No, no, she was just taking care of me. She did it just so she could prove that I'm not ugly. That's it." Emira's eyes almost left her body with how wide she opened them up.
"Mittens, first of all: you're not ugly. Second of all: you're being delusional. A friend who cares about you wouldn't kiss you just to prove a point, neither would say that you deserved better than being kissed in a high school game." The oldest sister claimed.
"But people kiss just for kissing all the time! It's not that big of a deal, really. She was just being a good fake girlfriend." The twins facepalmed themselves with an incredible synchronization.
"Titan, give me patience, because if you give me strength I'm killing her." Emira muttered. "Amity, stop with this nonsense. The only person that can't see how in love she's with you, it's you. The girl has liked you since literally day one." She yelled, back in a whisper.
Amity started to laugh, slowly.
"Day one, you say. For Titan's sake. The only thing she has been doing since day one is managing to get under my skin." The youngest argued, as she crossed her arms over her chest in discordance.
"And why do you think she has been doing that, Amity? Think about it." Edric told her, before standing up.
Amity stopped looking at them, turning to look at her bedsheets.
"Look, we're pretty sure that she likes you. And since I'm sure you haven't thought yet what are you going to do next, I'm going to give you a little advice. You have to bring the heavy artillery. You've told me before that you don't know how to flirt with her, well, that's partly false. You do know how to flirt, I've seen you doing it before, you just don't know how to flirt with her because you've never been in love before, so you get all flustered and don't think clearly about the effect that you want to provoke in her. Test the waters, flirt with her, show her that you want her, and you'll realize that it's mutual." Emira adviced, standing up right after her brother.
They left her to think after wishing her a good night, as well as good luck.
So that is when she made the decision. If she wanted something to happen between Luz and her, she would have to put some effort. Screw her plan of forgetting her, she was going to fight for her.
The Bloodwilliam's night states that during the first day of the last month, there will be one of the hottest days in the whole year. This phenomenon happens to be a strange occurrence due to the usual low temperatures that hit the boiling isles at that point of the year.
This event causes even stranger things to occur, such as snowing in the middle of a heat wave, or lowering the temperature of the boiling isles' seas.
Luz learned about this during her first few months in the boiling isles. She had found it fascinating, and it reminded her of climate events that used to happen back at earth, although in a minor scale, of course.
Well, turns out that destiny and her seemed to be good friends, because Amity's curse ended up right during that day. And, since she had been planning to confess during Amity's last day of the curse, this sets the best occasion to do so.
Luz was doodling ideas in her notebook, barely paying attention to the lesson being presented right in front of her due to how sleepy she was feeling.
And who was at fault for that? Technically, the almighty Amity Blight.
She had tried to sleep at night, but she was awake for most of the night overthinking. Amity's texts had been too much for her poor heart. In fact, her heart was still beating fast at the sole thought of seeing her, considering that she had overslept, causing her to arrive late (the traitorous Hunter Clawthorne usually leaves earlier to go with Willow), thus, she had not seen Amity yet.
Right in time, the bell screeched, allowing her to leave the classroom in a rush. However, right at the doorstop, someone was waiting for her.
"Hey, Luz!" A sweet voice said, causing her to have half a heart attack.
"Ams! You surprised me!" Luz said, as she was still 'holding' her heart.
"Well, I figured that since the teacher allowed us to leave earlier, I'd come pick you up, since it's usually the other way around." The human smiled at that, holding her hand as they started to walk towards the cafeteria.
They were in the line waiting for their lunch, when Luz spoke.
"You know what's the thing I'm going to miss the most of dating you when we break up?" Amity snorted, not expecting the comment.
"You better say dating me, or you'll be walking on thin ice." She joked lightheartedly.
"Close, but no. I'm going to miss not having to pay for my lunch." Luz pouted.
Amity chuckled as she passed one hand to rest on Luz's back.
"That's a shame. Had you said dating me, I would have offered to keep paying for it. What a pity." The witch teased.
"Aw, but that wouldn't be fair to you either, you'd have to ask for something in return." Luz argued.
A smirk formed in the mint-haired witch's face, it did not take long to reach her eyes. She turned to look at Luz with a knowing smile.
"What?" The human asked.
"You already offered me to help me with something yesterday, I wouldn't mind that being my payment." Amity said, causing Luz to think about it for a second, before turning red.
"You're killing me..." Luz mumbled.
"Mhm? What was that?" Asked Amity, feigning innocence.
"Nothing. I said that we can start whenever you want." Luz hit back.
"Alright then, let's go now." Amity said, stepping out of the line.
"Huh?! But...my lunch..." She complained, looking at the queue.
Amity chuckled, before stepping in again.
"Can't believe I asked you to make out with me, and your worry was not having lunch." She whispered in her ear, provoking another blush.
Amity smiled. Emira had been right, it was easier to flirt with Luz once she set an objective in mind. If she thought first of what reaction she wanted to get from her, it was way easier to let herself get carried along.
Luz did not say anything at this, too embarrassed to even speak.
That melted something inside of Amity's chest.
"You're so cute when you get flustered, did you know that? Don't worry, if you're helping me practice after we break up as payment for getting you lunch, we still have almost a week for you to prepare mentally." Luz turned to look at her, wanting to object, however, she was met with Amity's lips pressed on hers in a short peck.
She felt her soul literally leaving her body. She might have never gasped so loud in her entire life.
Amity turned to look to somewhere else, with a sly smile on her face.
Luz's mouth opened up, knowing exactly what she was doing.
She was trying to provoke her, she wanted to see her being a mess. And, Luz might as well just let her get away with it.
After all, she would have the last laugh being the one asking her to date in a matter of days.
She could handle the tiny heart attacks that Amity was causing her.
"You said you would give me a heads up next time." Luz pouted, causing Amity to chuckle softly.
Finally, they actually did get lunch, and then chose to go outside where they knew the rest of the group would be, just like the day before.
They sat with their friends and talked about the boring subjects they had had that day.
"My issue is with the teacher, like, this subject is great, but he's so boring. I fell asleep listening to him again today for the four time this week." Hunter complained.
"Hunter, it's Tuesday." Willow said.
"Yeah, that's the point." Hunter answered.
Willow chuckled a little as she started to uncap her bottle of water.
"Oh, Ams, you have a stain here." Luz pointed out, cupping her face as she cleaned the stain of food laying in Amity's chin. "There it is!" She announced.
Before she could take her hands out of her face, Amity responded.
"Oh, thank you, Baby!" She said, before pecking her on the lips again.
This action provoked an undesired reaction, but not from Luz, from Willow, who chocked on her drink.
Hunter and Gus were so speechless they themselves were not able to help her.
Amity turned to look at Willow.
"Are you okay, Willow?" She asked her, as the witch showed her a thumbs up, in the middle of a cough attack, similar to a prior situation given the day before. "Seriously guys, I'm worried about you, why do you choke so much? Is everything alright?" She said.
Then, she realized the stain was not only on her face, but also on her uniform.
"Ah, shit. I'm going to clean this to toilet, wait for me, please." She asked the group before running towards the toilet.
"You're still not giving me a heads up." Luz complained.
Three heads turned to look at the human.
"What the actual..." Tried to say Gus, before stopping himself.
"Yesterday was... complicated." Luz concluded, her cheeks pink.
"Did you two talk about the kiss?" Willow asked, as she recovered from her cough attack as best as she could.
Hunter snorted.
"Yeah, I don't think you want to go there." He teased.
"Stop it, I want to kill myself each time I think about that." Luz said.
"Why? What happened?" Gus inquired.
"Amity asked her to make out." Hunter snitched, causing gasps from the two other witches.
"Not once, but thrice." Luz added, causing Hunter to look at her too.
"What?! I thought it had been once."
"Well yeah, at first. But then she said it again, and then made a comment about it like twenty minutes ago. I don't even know how I'm still alive." Luz explained.
"Luz, what are you going to do? You are only a few days from the end of the curse. Have you thought of anything yet?" Willow asked her.
"I know, I'm confessing this weekend. I'm taking her out for Bloodwilliam's night since that's when her curse ends. I thought it'd be more special that way." She revealed, receiving nods of approval from her friends.
"I'm back guys, what are we talking about?" Amity reinserted into the conversation as she sat on her prior spot next to Luz once more.
"Oh, nothing interesting. Hey, Ams, how are you doing with the curse?" Gus asked.
"Mhm, pretty fine actually. I can't even remember the last time it made me do something embarrassing, to be honest. Lately it's been acting out when I'm alone or with my siblings. Maybe since it's about to finish, it's losing power, or something. I prefer it like that, though." She reflected.
Gus hummed.
"And when was the last time it acted out in front of Luz?" He inquired deeper.
Luz looked at him with murderous eyes. As if she was asking him 'What are you trying?'.
"Ah... I can't even remember. It's been shy around Luz lately, though. It's been a while since it doesn't act out around her, I wonder why that could be." She thought, the rest of the group seemed tense.
"I wonder..." Gus followed her thought, clearly with an ironic undertone.
And so, the rest of the week kept moving on like that. As Luz studied from a book which had revealed one of the most important truths in her life, Amity was going all out with her new found talent of thinking before flirting with Luz, which seemed to be oddly effective, causing her to be a mess of blush.
The pecks did not stop, neither did the jokes about kissing more. However, Luz tried to reduce it to a minimum.
The reason behind this? Amity was not sure how long she could keep this going on. Luz, on the other side, wanted to reserve the good things for the time when they became official. However, her attitude did not come off as rude or awkward to Amity, it only looked like she was too flustered to keep going, which would cause her to laugh at how cute she looked.
Finally, the day in which Luz would confess had arrived. It had taken her almost seven years, it was ridiculous. However, all good things require time, energy, and lots of effort. Luz does not regret anything, she believes the timing was more than perfect in their lives.
Friday had been fairly a calm day, nothing too unusual had happened. At least, not if you take into account the unusualness of the entire week.
Luz had decided not to tell Amity anything. For them, it should be a day just like any other, until the point in which she would choose to reveal the surprise.
So, there was Luz, at the same spot she had been only a few weeks ago. At the time, she had been shivering, literally scared to death. Her eyes were filled with tears, reliving the same panic she had felt all those years ago, with the sole purpose of making sure that a person who was incredibly important for her, was fine.
This time, it was different, though. She was nervous, yes, but her body was overflowing with the millions of feelings that she could possibly feel. She felt happiness, she was aching for the need to tell her absolutely everything she had always wanted to tell her, her soul yearned with a burning passion for mixing with Amity's, her heart was longing for sharing everything with her.
This time, it was different, because she could make sure that a person who was so incredibly important for her, would remain by her side.
She knocked lightly on Amity's window, shaking from the anticipation.
She heard noise from the inside of her bedroom, as light footsteps approached her, before opening the big crystal window.
"Luz! What are you doing here?" Amity asked within a whisper.
Luz wanted to answer, however, she was met with an unexpected view.
Amity was wearing her Good Witch Azura t-shirt as a pijama.
Once the witch realized what she was looking at, she blushed.
"I have no comments." She herself said.
"And I have no questions." Luz smiled.
"So? What are you doing here at this hour?"
"Did I wake you up?" The human asked, brushing her girlfriend's hair out of her face.
"No, not really. I was in bed, but I haven't been able to sleep."
"Oh, is there a reason why?"
"Just thinking..." Amity answered, before making a gesture with her hand, allowing her to proceed with her explanation.
"Well, I was thinking that, since this is the last day of the curse, we could go out and celebrate it!" Luz suggested, with a gleeful expression on her face.
"But Luz, it must be freezing outside, aren't you cold out there?" Amity asked, since she was still inside of her bedroom, she was not aware of the temperature in the outside.
"No, not today." Luz said, grabbing one of the witch's hands, in order to get her out of the room.
"Wait, no way, I'm not leaving the house like this." Amity pointed out at her clothes.
"Aw, why not? I love how good my clothes look on you!" Luz teased her, laying on the balcony's small wall as she checked her out.
Amity rolled her eyes.
"Shut up." She was about to close the door, when Luz put a foot in between the door and the doorstep.
"Wait, wait, don't go!"
"Silly, I'm just going to change, I'm not leaving."
"Let me get inside then, you take too long." Amity groaned at this request.
"I thought it wasn't cold today."
"Well, yeah, but I don't wanna wait outside!" She complained.
Amity opened up the door of the window again, letting her come in. Luz quickly made herself at home and occupied her prior position on the bed.
"Don't get too comfortable, you'll end up falling asleep." She said, as she went to look for something more appropriate in her closet.
"Nah, you know I always have trouble sleeping." The human answered, as she grabbed hold of a soft pillow which had the lingering fragrance of Amity.
"Mhm, that's what you always said, but you never seem to have any trouble falling asleep when I'm with you. Don't peek." Amity warned, as she started to change.
Luz covered her eyes, which were already looking at the ceiling.
"I wonder why that could be." She mumbled. "That's because your bed is too comfy, it must be it." She excused herself.
"Yeah, sure, and so was the tent back on the knee and on that forest. Really comfy if you ask my back. Come on, just admit you love sleeping next to me." Amity claimed, as she finished changing herself.
"You're right. The bed is not comfy, you're comfy." Luz admitted, causing Amity to stop on her tracks for a moment and smile. "Can I look?" She asked, receiving a confirmation through a short noise.
"Alright, do you think we'll be needed something else from here?" Amity asked, she was wearing shorts with her usual boots, as well as a pretty but comfortable t-shirt. The outfit was completed by one of Luz's sacrificed jackets.
"Still wearing my clothes, I see." Luz said, half-sitting on the bed.
"Don't pretend like you don't like it." Amity whispered, she had gotten so close to her that she was at a breath's distance.
"Never said I didn't." Luz whispered back, before being the one to peck her this time. This resulted in a satisfied smile from the other girl. "Well, let's go, everything else is on the car, so we can get going." She announced, as she stepped up and summoned Owlbert as a palisman to help them reach the ground safely.
It was over all, a short trip in the car. Luz was expecting it to be a little longer, but time goes by fast when you are enjoying it.
Once they arrived to their destination, the two of them got out of the car.
"What time is it? I didn't even check when you got me up." Amity asked.
"Mhm, I can imagine, you heard me and the only thing on your mind was me. That's alright, happens to everyone who is obsessed with someone. It's around three AM, by the way." Luz teased her, as she opened up the car's trunk to get their things out of it.
"Ah, yes? I wonder how many times that has happened to you with me, then." Amity teased back, helping her grab a few things.
"Much more than what you can imagine." Luz answered. Her voice had the lingering feeling of a joke, yet, she knew it was an honest answer. Amity would never be able to know how many times throughout all those years, Luz had been unable to get Amity out of her mind.
Amity smiled, a little blush on her cheeks covered by the dark night in such a barely illuminated place.
"So... What are we doing here?" Amity questioned, as she took Luz's jacket off, she had finally realized the high temperature of the night.
"Well, something tells me that you've completely forgotten about it. But tonight is Bloodwilliam's night! So, I wanted to come here with you to have fun before winter officially starts hitting." She explained.
"Oh... I've never seen the effects of Bloodwilliam's night in person!" Amity commented, surprised.
"What do you mean you haven't? It's such an amazing night! We go out every year with my family. Most of the time we go to a beach, this year it's the same, but I wanted more privacy so I decided to go to a different one, with you." Said Luz.
Amity smiled. "We don't really do that with my family. My mother always told us it was dangerous due to the contrast of temperatures, and we're not really allowed to get sick just for having fun, you know..." She expressed.
Luz looked at her with empathy, knowing how much she had missed out on because of her mother.
"Well, not this year, Ams!" The human grabbed the witch's arm, careful as to not drop anything from their hands before walking downstairs to the beach.
The weather was amazing, it was hot enough as to not feel cold, but it was not suffocating either. The greatness of this came with the fact that it was the middle of the night, in one of the supposedly coldest months of the year.
Once they got to the sand, they took turns holding everything so the other one could get rid off their shoes, leaving them barefoot in the soft, yellowish sand.
They laid a large sheet on the ground so they could sit in it, as well as leaving everything else there.
Once they finished, they were finally able to sit down and sigh.
"It's a breathtaking sight, to be honest." Amity said, looking at the horizon which could barely be made out in the infinity of the night intertwining itself with the dark ocean. In the sky, millions of stars could be seen, making them feel small thinking about the greatness of the universe.
"Yeah, it is." Luz mumbled, focused on what she believed, was more of a breathtaking sight. She stopped looking at the love of her life, to finally follow her eyes, landing on the horizon as well. "It reminds me of the time we went to that beach after the grudgby match."
"Yeah, that was nice... Well, at least it was until Emira told me that the windows were all locked." She remembered.
"Don't lie, you had a great time cuddling with me." Luz joked, as she began to take food out of her bag.
"How would you know? You fell asleep before me, and then woke up after me." Amity playfully attacked, as she began to drink from a bottle of juice that Luz had handed her.
"Oh yeah, that was sad. Is that how it feels to be left alone in bed the morning after?" Amity chocked on her drink. "Oh, look! Now you're in the club too. That's how it feels choking from embarrassment!" Luz laughed at her.
"You just can't say things like that!" She said through the cough.
"Oh, but you can ask me to make out?" Luz asked, as she rubbed her back.
"Not fair. You proposed it first, I just mentioned it again. Besides, I had to leave before my mother found out that I wasn't at home." Amity defended herself.
"And you talked to Eda that morning, didn't you?" Luz asked as she took a bite of a sweet clawberry.
Amity got tensed up. As far she was concerned, Luz was not aware of her talking to Edalyn that morning. Had she been awake when that happened? Had she heard the conversation? Had Edalyn told her about it? "Huh?"
"Yeah, Eda told me that you talked to her and Raine because they saw you leaving. Besides, I think you mentioned talking to Eda that day during the training camp in the forest." Luz said casually, as she kept eating the fruit.
Amity calmed down. "Oh yes, that's right. We talked to each other a little bit. I apologized for spending the night there without permission. She told me it was fine, though."
"And did you two talked about something interesting?" The human inquired.
Amity tensed up again, was she playing with her? "No, not really. We just talked about it and then I left. Like I said before, I didn't want to get home too late." She tried to keep calm, receiving an understanding hum from Luz.
Luz cleaned her hands off before turning to look at Amity. "Ams, do you know how to swim?"
"Yes, I learned at a lake which didn't boil back when I was a kid with Willow. Why?" She responded, finishing eating a candy.
Luz stood up and handed her hand to help her stand up.
"What are we doing?" Amity said, a concerned look on her face.
Luz lifted her up from the sand with her hands, before running towards the water. "Luz Clawthorne what are you doing?!" Amity yelled before Luz threw both of them in the water, deep enough for falling without hurting themselves in the sand, close enough of the shore to float without any issues.
Amity's face got out of the water, her hair a mess.
"Luz Clawthorne I'm so going to kill you! If you knew we were going to swim, why didn't you tell me to put on a swimsuit!?" She yelled at her, punching her lightly in her shoulders.
"And ruining the surprise? No way. Don't worry, I brought clothes for you to change, seeing as you enjoy to wear mine so much." Luz teased, making Amity's eyes to roll again.
Amity didn't answer, she just looked at her with a playful annoyed look.
Luz smiled at her and held her by the waist, getting her closer to her. In return, Amity chose to get her arms on Luz's shoulders.
They did not say anything, they were just looking at each other in silence. Their breaths were merging together as they had learned to do, especially throughout that week. Their eyes connected with each other's as they completely forgot about the world.
Sometimes, they would do that in the middle of everyone. In front of their friends, in front of their classmates, it was not on purpose, it just happened. However, the feeling of being able to do that without the pressure of ever having to stop because of other people, was the best feeling ever.
Luz dropped one of her hands, reinforcing her grip on Amity's waist with only her left hand. With the free one, she brushed the now wet mint hair out of the witch who possessed a pale, fair skin.
"Amity, do you know what I'm going to miss the most about dating you when we break up?" She asked again.
Amity rolled her eyes before playfully answering "Me paying for your lunch?". Luz smiled.
"No. Dating you." Amity's smile dropped, getting serious all of a sudden.
It was not a bad type of 'serious', however. It was the type of serious in which one takes a situation with the seriousness it deserves.
"I'll miss dating you too." She answered, barely a whisper. Her smile returned, not wanting the moment to be a sad one. "But it's alright. The good thing about it, is that next week you'll be helping me practice how to kiss." She teased, finishing the sentence with a wink.
Luz chuckled. "So you're still on that, huh?"
"What do you mean? Do you not want to kiss me? Is it because I'm ugly?" Amity joked, referencing their little argument back at the Screamesse.
"Sure, that's the reason why!" Luz joked back, causing Amity to hit her lightly again, resulting in a soft laugh from her. "It's just funny to think that I could teach you something like that, as if you hadn't kissed much more people than I have."
"Mhm, why wouldn't you be able to teach me something like that? You've taught me so much already in these past few months." The witch questioned.
"What have I taught you? Flirting doesn't count, you had the biggest improvement I've ever seen in like one day, and I didn't have anything to do with that." The human complained.
"The list is too long, I wouldn't be able to finish." Amity softly avoided the question, knowing she could not say all of the things that she wanted to say, at least, not yet. "And I don't see how you kissing less people than me has anything to do with that. Because truth be told," she whispered, "I enjoyed it very much." She said next to her ear, causing her a shiver down her spine.
"You're killing me." Luz mumbled again.
Amity smiled, being able to catch it once again.
Afterwards, they naturally decided to play on the water and swim for a little while before getting out of the water.
Luz handed her a towel as she began to dry herself as well. However, Amity quickly found out one of the effects of this climatic event.
It must have taken her no more than three minutes before she was completely dry.
Luz stared at her, focusing on her hair.
"What? Do I have something?" She touched her hair trying to get something inexistent out of it.
"No, no. It's just... Your hair is even prettier with the waves." She touched it, softly.
"You told me that already, back during our first date." Amity reminded her.
Luz had in agreement. "Hey, Ams, do you remember when we danced at Eda's birthday party?"
Amity visibly cringed. "Oh, yes. I sucked at it. But I guess we can say that's another thing that you taught me!"
"That's right. You told me that you only knew how to waltz." Luz agreed.
"Yes. My father, who is not a great dancer either, clearly, taught me how to waltz when I was a kid. We used to assist to important events when I was younger, we still do, but I guess my father was a little happier back then. I remember that at some point, Emira and Edric started to dance together, and so I was left all alone to dance. My mother was mostly talking to important people, so she was never there to dance. Turns out that, since Em and Ed danced together, my father was also alone to dance. So he taught me how to waltz. It was really sweet, I was bad at that too until I managed to get a grip of it. It's been years since the last time we waltzed, though." Amity told her.
Luz smiled at her with sympathy, "It's hard to picture you doing something wrong, to be honest." She grabbed her scroll and typed something on it.
She stood up again, and once more, offered her hand. "Well, would you grant me this dance, Miss Amity, 'the almighty' Blight?" Luz joked, waiting for a response.
Amity chuckled, a soft blush on her cheeks.
She got up and accepted her hand. "For sure." She helped Luz with her hands, positioning in the right places, when the music started to sound from Luz's device.
It was a strange feeling the one they had inside.
It was a bittersweet moment. They both knew that was supposed to be the official last time for them. After this, they would keep distance from each other. Amity would go back to running the school, they would publicly break up, trying to cause the less commotion possible. The excuse would surely be something about them not having enough time for each other with the final exams ahead of them. They would have to go back to what their lives used to be. This time, not even a little bit of flirting was allowed. Not at school, not through text messages, not outside of school.
Their relationship was a mere public relationship to calm down the masses after Amity's incident. To help preserve her reputation for as long as the curse lasted. It was damage control.
Without a curse, there was no damage control, there was no masses to calm down, there were not mistakes to cover up, there was not an excuse to keep this going on.
If this was the end, they were both settle in making it the most beautiful one ever.
They kept on waltzing for what felt like an eternity. Their bodies so synchronized, their feet so light, it felt as if they were in the center of the universe, the moonlight shining upon them, their magnetic looks fixated on each other.
They were not sure how long it had lasted, maybe hours, maybe minutes. The song had finished, a new one had started, they would lie if they could tell the exact amount of times this happened.
At some point, they separated from each other. Luz turned to look at the time, it was the crack of dawn already, meaning that it was time.
She had to do this, it was now or never, and she was not going to miss this opportunity. She had insisted her whole adolescence for a chance like this, Amity had, without knowing, rejected this chance from her several times. This time, however, it was different. Luz knew she could do this, Luz knew Amity would not reject her.
This was the actual moment she had been waiting for years. She felt a little dizzy and nervous just by thinking about it.
They sat down to observe the sunrise in front of them. It was a comfortable silence, but Luz knew she had to break it soon.
"I can't believe it's been three months already, it feels like it was only yesterday when you got cursed." Luz reflected.
"Is it weird if I say that I'm partially thankful for it?" The witch asked.
"How so?" The human asked back.
"Well, it's true that I had it really rough lots of times. Getting suspended from my duties as president of the student's council surely was something hard to accept. Living with the fear of messing up in public again. Being judged by everybody after the speech, as well. But... There are things that I could've never changed, fixed or found out without it. The curse helped me to fix my relationship with Willow, the curse made me have some great friends, the curse made me realize how unhappily I had been living for years. And the curse helped me get close to you and showed me how much I was missing out on." She expressed, opening up to her, to the person she probably trusted most in the entire Boiling Isles.
Luz smiled, her eyes showed how proud she was of her growing so much as a person.
Luz frowned a little, thinking about something. She was trying to decide if that would be the best choice or not. At the end, she decided to take a risk, and do the one thing she had done a million little times already. She lied to her.
Well, partially.
"I have things to be thankful for with your curse too, you know?" She said, trying to relax.
Amity turned to look at her. "Really? Like what?" She asked, innocently.
"I had always wanted to get closer to you. I wanted to be your friend for years." She smiled nostalgically, looking at the sand.
Amity pouted, feeling guilty.
"Really?" She mumbled, hugging her legs as she placed her chin on top of her knees.
"Ams, I had the biggest crush on you." Luz blurted out.
Amity's heart skipped a beat.
Well, several beats, actually.
The whole world stopped for her.
"W-What?" She whispered, her voice trembling.
"Oh, please! Don't tell me you didn't know." Luz said, her voice relaxed, so was her posture. Her hands were stretched behind her, as was one of her legs, while the other was flexed. She showed confidence. She was not scared of the situation.
"I...No." Amity answered, starting to shake.
If she had heard correctly, Luz had not said "I have", she had said "I had". It was past already. Her feelings were no longer mutual.
"Amity! For real?" She asked playfully, "I was always trying to catch your attention, that's why the guys were making fun of me when you said that about crushing on people!" Luz explained.
Amity did not know what to say. She was shocked, she was even unable to cry.
"And to think that at the of the day, I finally did get a chance with the almighty Amity Blight. Ah... The Luz of my whole teenage years wouldn't be able to believe it." She sighed, a reminiscing smile on her face. She carefully eyed Amity. She was paler than usual. Maybe she was overdoing it.
Amity tried to laugh, but it sounded so awkward. Her nape tingled with the awkwardness of the situation, her chest and her throat ached with all the things she did not allow herself to say, her cheeks burned with a passionate desire. And her eyes? Her eyes were shimmering, shining and sparkling.
That is what Luz was looking for, she turned her whole body to look at her, before quickly placing a hand on the opposite girl's chin, making her do the same.
Then, she voiced a simpler command.
"Amity, speak."
"I'm an idiot. I should've realized sooner. I should've accepted you. I wasted the one good thing in my life which I didn't even know I had yet. I didn't realize how important you could be for me, how good you could be for me. Everything about you has changed me. You did teach me thousands of things in three months. You taught me how to be free, how to be happy, how to take care of others, how to be brave, how to feel safe, how to make other people feel safe. You taught me that it's okay to make mistakes, that it's okay to ask for help, that I'm pretty even if I don't see it myself, that I can trust and rely on others, that there are people who love me and like me for who I actually am, and not for how I make myself be perceived. The only thing I'm afraid I wasn't able to learn on time, was not to take things for granted. And now I've lost you. Actually, it's stupid, I can't lost you if I never truly had you. I'm sorry Luz, I am sorry for being selfish. Because I am so in love with you that I want you to pretend I never broke your heart just so you could love me back." She confessed. The tears were about to run freely through her cheeks, when two hands cupped her face.
"Amity, breathe." And so she did. The last time the curse had acted out, and it was to give her the braveness she needed to say all the things she had been wanting to say. Just like the very first time, when the curse had digged deep into her best covered desires to change her life. She had not say all of that in thirty seconds, because the curse finished before she stopped confessing. She just had not realized.
Amity looked at her, she was embarrassed, but she was feeling so many emotions, that shame was not the most important one.
"You don't have to feel selfish, because I have never stopped loving you. Not for a single moment." Luz caressed her cheek.
Amity's heart skipped a beat.
Well, several beats, actually
Her whole world stopped.
"W-What?" She mumbled, completely shocked.
"Amity, it's my turn to speak now." Luz breathed in deeply. "You're the love of my life. I have been loving you since we were kids. The first time I met you, you helped me when I was feeling completely lost. I found out things of you throughout the way. Things that made me love you even more, every single day of our lives. I didn't care about you rejecting me, because loving you was a feeling so addicting that I could never stop doing it even if I wanted to. I thought of giving up a hundred times, I tried giving up a hundred times, but it was impossible. Because then, I'd see you the next time and I would be stunned by how beautiful you were. How smart you were. I was stunned by the million things you were able to do so effortlessly, so natural. You're not perfect, perfection does not exist, but you come really close to it. These last three months were the best three months in my entire life, Ams. I was able to love you, maybe not as much as I wanted to, because I was scared that you would found out about it and our arrangement would break, but I was finally able to be close to you; to touch you, to hold you, to cuddle with you, flirt with you, joke with you. You're not selfish, but if you were, I would give you my permission to be, because I'm just so in love with you that I could never stop loving you." Luz confessed.
Amity was shaking. She was barely able to breath normally. Her head was too busy trying to listen to every single word coming out of Luz's mouth to be able to function properly.
She did not know what to say, she had said everything she wanted to say already. So, in the softest voice ever, she whispered for only Luz and the sea to hear.
"Kiss me, please." She begged.
Luz held her tightly, desperately trying to obey Amity's request.
Their breaths mixed with each other, Luz's fingers interlaced with Amity's hair, Amity's hands met each other in Luz's back, intertwining themselves, conceding a type of closeness that they should have felt hundreds of times already, and yet, it was not quite like the others. It was new. It held hope. It held happiness. It held love.
Their lips met each other where the words had met before. The desperation of merging their lips could not match the tenderness with which they were doing it.
They were loving each other just as strongly, if not even more, as they had done for a long time already.
The kiss was mending something in their hearts, that they were not aware it needed to be mend.
And then, snow fell on the beach, in the coldest month of the year, in the hottest day of the year.
And there, these two loving witches were finally showing their truths for the first time, after lying a million little times.
