Chapter Text
Jason raced through the Drakes home, looking for a bigger mirror. Thankfully, there was a bathroom near Tim’s room. He switched on the light and was met with his own reflection. He tapped his foot impatiently, hoping his theory was right and was rewarded a second later.
Slowly, his image began to fade away and he was met with the relived face of one Tim Drake. The kid placed his hands again the glass and Jason was quick to copy him. He couldn’t feel the kid but, the gesture seemed to bring Tim some sort of comfort, his tense shoulders relaxing a bit. Jason could see his mouth moving but, no sound was coming out on his side of the mirror.
“Tim, can you hear me? If you can give me a thumbs up.” Jason asked, hoping that at least his voice could be heard. Tim frowned at him and pointed to his ear before shaking his head, clearly not understanding him either. Jason held up his index finger to let Tim know to hold on for a second while he thought about what to do.
He looked around the bathroom and saw the shower, which gave him an idea. He closed the bathroom door and ran to the shower turning the knob to hot and let it run so steam could fill the room. Once the mirrors started fogging, he turned the water off and raced to the mirror. Quickly writing “are you okay” and praying that Tim can read it.
He doesn’t have to worry for long, a messge starts forming pretty quickly. “Yako m'i,” Tim replies, and it takes a second for Jason to interpret the message. He doesn’t want to waste too much time here and the steam is fading fast. He tries to keep the message back to the point, knowing that Tim will have to figure out the backward text on his side as well.
“What happened to you?” Jason murmurs out loud as he writes it on the mirror. He waits with bated breath, fingers tapping on the bathroom counter as he waits for Tim to write back. Slowly, the messages come through, with the steam fading the from the mirror as each line appears.
“Ksed ym no koob.”
“Edisni kcuts.”
“TI NEPO TON OD!”
Jason knew Tim would never read for fun, even if his parents got for him as present. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and point to the screen, hoping Tim would understand that they were changing rooms again, Tim gave him a nod and the mirror simmered, Jason seeing his own reflection now.
So now he kind of has a game plan. Grab the weird, cursed book that trapped his friend and avoid opening it at all costs. Easy enough for now and he springs into action.
He sprints to Tim’s room and grabs the book along with Tim’s phone as he heads out, putting the camera on selfie mode and waiting until Tim appears again. Once he confirms that Tim is still with him, Jason feels better about leaving the house to go to the cave.
Unfortunately, it looked like he would need to confess to Bruce that he was keeping Tim and his stalker tendencies a secret. Hopefully he brushes that bit aside and forgets about by the time they figure out how to set Tim free.
