The person he's been texting for years whose real name he still doesn't know. Who does Ilya spill his guts to about his mom and how awful his family is? The weird person who texted him accidentally one night and then didn't stop. It will take years before either of them realizes the truth about their texting partner.
In the background, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov's iconic rivalry is still what everyone in the hockey world talks about, and they still annoy the shit out of each other.This fic is mostly written, and will be roughly 20,000 words when fully published.

“Her mother, ah, caught her with another girl.” Shane’s eyes bug out. He knows what this means. He knows what Ilya’s family is like.

“Sveta has her. They take the next train out to Kazakhstan. Then we figure out visa and Canada.”

Ilya and Shane have to learn to be parents and Arina finds out maybe some things (like gender and sexuality) aren’t so set in stone.

Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander famously hated each other, and for 6 years they had floated in each other’s orbits. Constantly competing, chirping and, as much as they would both deny it, there was definitely some heated staring from afar.
All that changes when Shane runs into Ilya on the roof of a club in Boston, with a cigarette in hand and a problem Shane was convinced he could fix.
Or: What would've happened if Shane and Ilya never did the CCM photoshoot, becoming real rivals?
