Chapter 1: An Ocean of Distance Between Us

Summary:

A brief outlook through the eyes of Poseidon from 2006

Notes:

This fic basically contains of all the ideas and conversations that I wanted to add in the first book but adding them would have convoluted the pacing of the story. I hope you guys like it <33

Chapter Text

Poseidon just sighed as he watched Zeus being deep in denial and refusing to believe Father’s return, he had hoped that informing the Council about Perseus’s report would get them on his side. He was right of course, but even with more than half the council pressuring Zeus to at least take some precautionary measure his brother remained stubborn and hardheaded.

Poseidon had at least managed to convince his elder brother of the seriousness of the threat and increasing security in the underworld; it also helped that his Furies were present during the beach confrontation and had already reported to him.

He could understand his younger brother’s fear, Father returning is a huge threat to the Gods and is a terrifying thought in itself but burying your head in the sand is hardly going to help the matter. Add to the fact that the real thief has not yet been caught.

When asked about the matter Ares has not been able to identify him despite catching him yet confirms his Father’s return and some tricky magic at play. Ares has thoroughly been cleansed of outside influence with the help of Apollo and Hecate, what was thoroughly disturbing was reports of various Gods noticing Ares was not himself but did not think of anything about it. It is the start of a tumultuous time for Gods and they need to start preparing right away if Father is strong enough to manipulate and enchant a major Olympian God.

As he was contemplating the best way of getting through Zeus’s thick skull, a flash occurred and his wife Amphitrite and his son Triton appeared, along with his daughters Rhode and Kymopoleia, and Persephone appeared in the throne room. To say he was perplexed was quite a bit of an understatement, he hadn't seen Kymopoleia in decades when she had made clear that she did not want anything from him anymore after her disaster of a political marriage which he had not admittedly handled well. This is the first time his family has been in the same room in nearly a century.

Another flash occurred and a group of demigods stood in the middle of the throne room, one of which was Perseus who looked as confused as anyone. Poseidon flashed him a smile when Perseus met his eye who returned in parts shy and wary. He knew he had put a foot in his mouth that day in the throne room and his words came out disastrously wrong but he was still hopeful to have a good relationship with his only demigod son  (who is probably a prophecy child and he will die in a few years)

Before anyone could get a word in a letter appeared in front of Zeus which he took gingerly and read out loud,

“Dear Assembled People of 2006,

We are providing you with an opportunity to know the future and make sure that you don’t make the same mistakes again. This information will be provided in the form of multiple books detailing everything.

In a few minutes, you will share the room with the Futures though for a time being that is currently undecided, you won’t be able to cross the line into the Future. As the first book is halfway done, we will reevaluate to see if letting you mingle freely would be a good idea.

Let it be known that all the demigods in this room have our protection and you will be unable to harm them until the time of the reading is over during which time would also be frozen so as not to make haste. The people from Future are warned not to spoil anything ahead of time and to let it be covered through the readings.

Use this opportunity wisely to bond with your family and strengthen your bonds, Olympus has been divided for far too long. We will let you keep your memories intact even though it could break your timeline if you thoughtlessly use this information.

Regards, The Fates.”

Immediately the room burst into chatters, even the Gods forgetting their decorum. He immediately made space for his family and transformed his throne. Kympoleia ignored him and sat furthest away from him, pulling Rhodes to sit beside her. Amphitrite gave Perseus a calculating and curious look while Triton pursed his lips in displeasure, never one to be fond of his half-siblings. While Amphitrite did not have the same contempt for his other children as Hera, she preferred not to interact with them as most of them failed to meet her expectations, and some were even arrogant towards her- a disrespect no queen would let slide easily.

Perseus joined his friends in seating, preferring to sit beside the satyr and daughter of Athena and while he understood the sentiment, he would prefer if he were to sit with them as an opening to bond with his immortal family. He has no doubt having heard various reports from his subjects that Perseus would win over his wife and children.

Still, maybe this will help heal the rift within his own family and get Zeus out of denial (if his assumptions about these books are correct).

A moment later, a bright light flashed blinding him for a second before it disappeared just leaving a line of bright light, possibly the distinction the Fates mentioned, and on the other side, an identical room with the only difference that their children are actually sitting with them. His counterpart and family sat on a smaller size sofa with all of them close to each other (and not actively avoiding) and his demigod son Perseus in front of them along with his satyr friend and a woman with bright red hair. His eyes widened in surprise as he took notice of his son’s age, his son who appeared grown- older than 16 and alive and happy. An ice around his heart melted on the confirmation that his son would survive 16. He critically roamed his gaze at the other counterpart members of their family who seemed to be looking at his Perseus with a barely perceptible fond look, even Kymopleia!

Order was quickly established in the room as he noted many missing demigods of his present absent in the future and all the Gods understood the implication of it if the soft exhale of Apollo was any indication as took notice of the fact that out of three currently present sons of his, only one of them is alive in the Future.

His gaze halted in surprise when he saw two children in front of Hades & Persephone and Thalia Grace alive once again along with the existence of Romans, while his dislike of them did overflow like Athena’s did, he was not particularly fond of them either. Still, he had to wonder why the Romans and Greeks were together in the future.

As the reading started, he observed Kympoleia muttering something softly to Percy which caused Rhode and Triton who snort in amusement as Perseus (Percy) looked at them open-mouthed in while replying something back with a barely suppressed smile as Kym mockingly patting his head, Triton responded something before the situation could escalate but that did not seem to have mollified Percy as he snapped his neck to look at Triton accusingly before setting down laying his head on Rhode’s lap while staring balefully at Trition who fondly rolled his eyes.

He saw all members of his family watching the scene in clear bewilderment, especially Triton who could not imagine this in his wildest dreams.

Watching his Future family members being such a picture of close bonds evoked something akin to hope in his chest. While currently, they are in pieces, watching their future selves jest around, and being a family filled him with optimism not felt in a century, perhaps Percy will be the glue to join them once again. These readings will shape up to be the perfect activity for bonding, hmm now only if he could scheme something up to make them interact with each other, starting with perhaps his wife and eldest daughter………..

Notes:

Poseidon is such a hard character to write because he means well but goes about it the worst way.
