They had finally gotten a proper skin donor for Johnny's graft, the doctors were calling it an allograft. The area on Johnny's arms and back were burned so badly and large that they didn't want to take that much of his healthy skin.
The doctors had told dally exactly what they were going to do, but he was still worried.
He knew why they were doing it. He would never heal right otherwise. The skin can't grow back on its own like his could because it was a full thickness burn.
But he was still so worried.
He knew the steps, he knew how long it was going to take, he even had the opportunity to talk to Johnny a few hours before the procedure.
But those 2 hours might've been the most excruciating in his life, knowing Johnny was having a surgery that was going to influence how he healed. It wasn't that he didn't trust the doctors or the process or if it would even work- He just still couldn't bear the thought of Johnny getting hurt.
Johnny awoke, still groggy and out of it, to immediately see Dallas there.
“Heeyyyyy.. Dally..” he slurred out, trying to reach out to hug dally but realizing he wasn't supposed to be moving his shoulders at all. His back felt a lot warmer now that he thought about it.
It was so itchy. And there was a weird pressure around the seams. But he resisted the urge to itch and just shut his eyes.
Dallys hand stroked through his hair, playing with it.
“Do you feel okay..?” His voice, softer than usual, spoke to Johnny.“"
Mhhgn..” He muttered out, his head swimming with the remnant of the anesthesia and the general tiredness of the whole procedure.
"Just go to sleep, okay?” He whispered.
He continued to brush his hair until he fell asleep, getting up.
He walked through the plain, sterile hallways of the hospital, glancing around. He just wanted Johnny to be okay. It didn't matter what the cost was. He needed to be okay.
He had to be.
