Chapter Text
This is the story of a world much like our own, but with a few key differences, of course. The first of these is the fact that 80 percent of this world’s population have superpowers called quirks! Some can be as simple as changing the color of your eyes or having a cactus head, to as powerful as having fire and ice at your command, or being able to stockpile eight generations of power in a single body! This has had some effects on society though.
At the top of the food chain, there are heroes. They protect the civilians, which is the next level in this pseudo hierarchy, below them are the villains. They fight the heroes and generally cause trouble. Then below them, are the 20 percent of the population who don’t have quirks, they are called Quirkless. These quirkless people are treated terribly by society, which may be the reason they have developed their own kind of power. The power to see and interact with mythological beasts. Things like unicorns and werewolves are fairly common in society, although most quirked individuals don’t recognize them. There's beasts in business, in positions of power, there are even some who are heroes!
Our story is about a little quirkless boy who can see these amazing creatures. His name is Izuku, and he has just been told that he is quirkless. Of course, as all little kids do, he goes and tells his friends of this development. Unfortunately, his friends, Katsuki Bakugou and his lackeys, don’t take too kindly to this information.
By the time Izuku trudges back home, bruised, sore, and tear-stained, it’s almost dark, and his home doesn’t offer any refuge either. He’s met with raised voices, a departing father, and an angry mother. It seems his parents didn’t like his quirkless status very much. This process of waking up, getting yelled at, going out, getting beat up, coming home, getting beat up, and then going to sleep continued over the years, and only got worse as time went on. His only refuge was the immense forest behind his house. This forest was where he met his first real friend, Doofus. When he first found Doofus, he was nothing but an egg. But as time went on, he watched Doofus hatch and grow. Eventually he got big enough to fly, and he and Izuku often took rides on him.
This leads us to his 10th birthday, his classmates had sent him a box of spider lilies, which means death, for his birthday and his mother was out of the house. He decided then that he was going to run away from here for good. So he packed up some clothes and food, grabbed some cash from his mothers wallet, and put it all into a backpack. He also took his collection of notebooks, which held all the information that he had compiled over the years about quirks and mythical beasts.
With his things collected and packed up, he went outside and hopped on Doofus’ back. They took off and flew away into the sunset, never to return… Well, not quite, if that was true we wouldn’t have a story, would we? Instead this brings us to today, where a 14 year old Izuku is returning to Japan to enter UA, the Hero high school of his dreams!
