Work Text:
Izuku had been recruited by the class to go for snacks and cooking supplies. It was gray and cloudy and a wonderful day. At least in his opinion.
Aizawa-Sensei was considerably less thrilled by the prospect of rain. He grumbled all the way to the store, while Izuku was engrossed in observing the people and beasts around them.
Soon enough they had bought all the required items and started heading back to the dorms. As they walked the wind picked up, tousling Izuku's hair. He saw flocks of birds take off and fly away, and the business people rushing home.
Then, a light drizzle began, many people taking out umbrellas in preparation for the downpour. Aizawa glowered as a large drop fell right on his nose. He had forgotten an umbrella, and Izuku didn't mind the rain so he wasn’t carrying one either.
As they reached the gates of UA, the drizzle started to turn into rain. They raced for the dorms, splashing through small puddles.
Izuku almost slipped, but managed to catch himself and the groceries. They safely made it to the dorms, and just as they closed the doors, the downpour started.
Aizawa dumped the groceries on the counter and left to take a shower. Izuku stayed in the kitchen to put the groceries away. He helped make dinner as the storm continued outside. He enjoyed some tasty katsudon, before gathering his homework and taking a seat by the window in the common room.
He spent the rest of the afternoon finishing homework and watching the rain outside.
When it was starting to get dark, his classmates began to comment on the weather.
“Man, this storm is a big one, it's been going on the whole afternoon!” Kaminari said. “Yeah, but storms usually last a while, Kami.” Mina replied, not looking away from the television.
"That’s true, but usually they calm down after a while, this one only got worse!” Kaminari looked out the window, cringing at an especially loud peal of thunder “it's like a hurricane or something out there!”
Izuku noted that Kaminari was right about the storm, and the fact that the last month had been pretty dry recently. He tuned out the conversation when it turned to the topic of making a meme out of this storm.
A flash of lightning caught his eye as it reflected off of something in the clouds. He observed the clouds a little closer than he had been, catching glimpses of deep blue, and bright yellow and blue.
Of course, he should have known. A long dry month, followed by a terrible rainstorm? There's only one explanation.
Now, he had only seen this phenomenon in other countries, such as Australia or China, once in England too, which was probably why it took him so long to realize.
He had already started up the stairs and quickly made it to his room. He rifled through his closet, grabbing his froggy raincoat and his custom rain boots before heading back downstairs.
He shrugged on his coat as he made his way down the steps, two at a time. Tugging the hood over his head to protect his curls as he breezed past Aizawa-Sensei, the man calling after him.
He didn’t listen, instead making it to the door where he kicked off his house slippers and put on his shiny red boots. His classmates had seen him duck past them and had followed him to the entryway, but they got there as he disappeared out the door, into the raging storm.

“What are you all doing in here, and where did Midori go?” Aizawa-sensei asked as he stepped into the room.
“We followed him in here, but he ran out the door, kero. I think he was wearing a froggy raincoat.” Tsu explained.
Aizawa stepped back into the common room to look out the bay window, into the courtyard.
He peered through the foggy glass and as lightning flashed, he caught a glimpse of Midori standing in the courtyard, looking up at the sky.

Izuku felt the rain pelt his face as he looked up at the stormy clouds. He couldn’t call on Doofus, the rain wouldn’t be good for his feathers, and he had a higher chance of getting hit by lightning.
Usually, he would find a high place to get the attention of the perpetrators, but there wasn’t any way to get onto the roofs of UA. Instead, he would have to use his magic. He picked up a stick and started carving symbols into the muddy ground.

After seeing Midori standing in the rain, he decided to get his rain clothes on and go get him. By the time he got back to the doorway, however, Midori’s friends were dressed and ready to go as well. He sighed.
“Don’t wander off problem children. We’re just going to get him to come inside, nothing else.” He fixed them with a glare before opening the door and walking outside.
They carefully made their way through the rain to where they had seen Izuku standing. However, when they got close enough to see him through the rain, he finished his spell.
A large pair of dragon wings sprouted from his back in a burst of green energy, and he pushed off the ground into the air before they could do anything.
Aizawa grumbled under his breath about problem children as they watched Izuku disappear into the cloudy, stormy sky.

As Izuku made his way higher up into the storm, he had to fight just to stay airborne. The winds pushed him around and the rain felt like pebbles falling on him, stinging with every drop.
The thick gray clouds blinded him as he rose higher into the atmosphere. Soon, he burst through them into the thick of the storm where he was greeted with a beautiful sight.
Storm dragons danced through the air, spraying rain with every flick of their tails and stirring the clouds with their claws. Lightning struck with each flash of teeth, and thunder shook the heavens as they roared.
Rain poured around them, their scales shiny and slick, yet their thick gray manes continued to stay light and fluffy as they danced, the harsh wind throwing them about like clouds.
The smaller dragons roared playfully as they chased each other, occasionally dipping down into the clouds, only to burst back up again with a puff of cloud.
The older ones danced gracefully, their smooth lanky bodies winding gracefully around each other and through the clouds, the perfect picture of elegance.
Soon, the eldest dragon, evidenced by the fact he was bigger and longer than the others and his mane was more akin to an unruly lion's with how big it was.
The elder approached slowly, it's big cerulean eyes locked onto Izuku's sodden form. He was suddenly aware of just how big these Dragons were, the teeth of the one in front of him were probably bigger than his math textbook!
A rumbling voice echoed out from the dragon, its low raspiness akin to the thunder it produced when it roared.
“Human, why have you entered our domain? This is a sacred ceremony and you are intruding. Why should I not eat you here and now?”
The other Dragons had gathered around in curiosity, circling him and occasionally roaring their displeasure at his intrusion.
With them, they brought the worst of the storm, the winds howling around him, rain pelting him from every angle and the thunder shaking him to his very core.
He was barely able to stay in the air due to the harsh winds and aggressive rain. He knew Dragons were private creatures, and they did not always take kindly to a human butting into their problems, even if he was a bit of a special case.
Through the fear, he managed to reply.
“I only came to see if everything was alright, sir. I have seen things like this before, although it usually means something was wrong. I was only wondering if there was a way to help you?”
The old dragon stared critically at him, weighing his words in his mind. His glowing eyes took in his appearance, analyzing him. Izuku waited patiently for the elder to reply, focusing on keeping himself airborne while he waited.
Eventually the dragon spoke once more.
“I have heard of you boy, the Beastspeaker. We had thought you were a myth, something made up by our western cousins. You seem to be real however, and since you have only good things to your name, you may stay with us until our ritual is complete.”
With its piece said, the elder dragon roared to the heavens and the Storm Dragons began their dance once again.
Izuku stayed and frolicked with the younger dragons, as he thought it would be rude to leave after being invited to stay. He was grateful for this opportunity though, taking the time to note the differences between these storm dragons and ones he had encountered before.
For one, this was more of a ritual than an expression of displeasure, in fact, it seemed to be a joyful time. One meant to let all the Japanese storm dragons meet and share stories and gifts.
He also clocked the differences in appearances, how the dragons differentiated themselves between their own kind, and how they appeared distinctly different to other Eastern Dragons he had met.
Eventually though, their party, for that's what it really was even if they said otherwise, came to an end and Izuku’s magic was weakening. He was tired from using magic continuously for so long, and he was colder than a naked eskimo in Antarctica, and very, very wet.

Aizawa hated the rain, it only ever brought bad things. He had been standing in this torrential downpour for almost an hour because his student had flown off into the clouds and the rest of his class didn’t want to go back inside.
As he turned his head to look at the sky for his student, a huge drop of water landed in his scarf and dripped down the back of his neck, making him shiver in disgust at the feeling. Did he mention how much he hates the rain?
He closes his eyes and sighs, noting silently how the wind and rain is calming down slightly. He hears yelling from his class and opens his eyes to see Midori descending down from the clouds, absolutely drenched and shivering.
His class steps back as he lands softly, before collapsing. Iida catches him before he makes contact with the muddy ground and Todoroki grabs his feet, helping Iida get him into a princess carry.
He’s slightly proud of his students as they take charge so he can focus on getting himself dry. Once they're inside, he goes to his room and towels off, before bringing more towels back to the common room.
He stopped at the entrance as he took in the sight of his k̶i̶d̶s students taking care of poor drenched Midori. He liked his students more than the rain, that's for sure.
