“I’m sorry, you took HOW MUCH Vicodin?” Chris Beck’s voice sounded across the Hermes, all crew members dropping their task in favor of following the commotion.
They entered the med bay, to find Beck staring incredulously at Watney, as the blond perched at the edge of his bed, laughing hysterically to the point that tears were spilling from his eyes.
Mark was laughing. He was honest to goodness laughing. The sound was like magic, nearly bringing the rest of the crew to tears. He looked so much like himself, it was such a beautiful sight.
Lewis, in spite of herself, covered her mouth, feeling tears roll down her face at the sight.
“Welcome home, Mark.” Johansson murmured, ruffling his hair, before wrapping him in a hug.
The rest of the crew followed, minus Beck, who hesitated before giving in.
Mark smiled, closing his eyes and leaning in to the touch, feeling safe for the first time in months.
“I’m happy to be back.”
