Lies My Mother Used to Tell

Chapter 30: 29

Notes:

Me: *has most of this chapter written in August 2024*
Also me: *doesn’t finish it until 31st May 2025*

Uhm… so it’s been a while. I honestly haven’t written anything since December, except for a wip I started a few days ago for a total different fandom. I’ve finished my job training? Professional education? For my job and then I was busy job hunting. Now, I’m busy working said job *sighs*

I really don’t know when I will finish this or how. I’ve had plans, the notes still exist too, but I’m not really in the MHA fandom at the moment. One day, I’ll finish this. I also don’t know if I’ll finish that other wip, so it’ll stay a data on my computer for now. We will see. I hope you still enjoy this update.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

29

Hitoshi had been a little bit worried about taking Izuku to the HPU-Park. Not because of the park itself, he had been there with his dads once already. No, he was worried because of how others might treat his boyfriend. Because even though it wasn’t obvious at the first sight, Izuku still had to wear that stupid collar around his neck, marking him as a donor. If a vampire or someone who knew what it meant were to see it, it could get ugly. And nowadays, a lot of people knew what it meant. But it seemed that Hitoshi had been worrying for nothing, because by now, they were three hours into their stay and nothing had happened. No, at the moment, Hitoshi had a different problem to worry about, because damn, when had Izuku learned how to fight? And why did it make Hitoshi feel all hot and bothered?

They had decided on doing a little laser-tag training simulation against a different team of two, but so far, Hitoshi wasn’t of much help, because he frequently got distracted. The way Izuku focused on their targets, moved around obstacles or the way those green eyes glinted when his strategy worked out for their team? That was beyond beautiful. And don’t get Hitoshi started on those tight black suits they had to wear for this so their clothes wouldn’t rip or get dirty. The fabric made Izuku’s ass look even more enticing… yeah, Hitoshi had it bad.

BANG!

“Dang it, Hitoshi!,” Izuku hissed while the vampire used his speed to barely dodge the projectile that had been shot at him. Where there even supposed to be projectiles for laser-tag? Oh well, this was plus ultra, so why not?
“Sorry, Izu,” Hitoshi replied and mentally smacked himself. “I got distracted.”
“You can stare at my ass all you want, but later,” Izuku half-teased, half-demanded. “I want to win this game. Don’t make me lose on my birthday.”
“Yes, sir,” Hitoshi replied and nodded. He needed to try harder.

(They won, but only barely and only thanks to Izuku.)

“You’re no longer a son of mine,” Shouta said dryly, shaking his head when they rejoined them after the simulation.
Hitoshi sputtered, while Izuku just snickered. Thankfully, or no thanks actually, his paps came to his aid.
“Aww, c’mon, Shou! As if you didn’t drool over my ass during training over and over too,” the blonde vampire said.
“If I did such a thing, I at least didn’t let it influence my performance in a fight. Hitoshi apparently has much to learn on that front. Besides, if I remember correctly, you were the one doing the drooling. And the loosing,” his dad smirked and Hizashi squawked in offense.
Seeing that it would only get worse from here, Hitoshi grabbed the hand of a giggling Izuku and dragged him away towards another attraction of the park. Because ew, flirting parents were the worst.

Leaving their bickering and flirting dads behind, they walked along a path full of booths that offered various things. There were tons of different snacks, even some suited for vampires, and there were lots of winning booths as well. Hitoshi was once again thankful about his restricted ability to blush, because thinking about winning something for Izuku? Yeah, he’d love that. But would Izuku? He knew how much his boyfriend loved what autonomy he had left, but then again, this wasn’t about autonomy…

“Hitoshi!”
The excited hiss of his boyfriend got Hitoshi’s attention and before he knew it, Izuku had dragged them over to one specific winning booth. It was a shooting booth, so not really something his vampire senses could help him with. What good was strength or eye-sight when you couldn’t aim for the life of it?
“What is it, Izu?,” Hitoshi asked, scanning the booth for whatever must have caught Izuku’s attention. There was a lot of hero merchandise, but also cute cat plushies and various other stuff. Following Izuku’s pointer finger, Hitoshi laughed softly. Of course Izuku would get hyped about seeing their paps’ merch somewhere.
“This is the limited edition Present Mic plush from 20XY that was sold out two minutes after launching! That almost broke All Might’s record with one point five minutes, which woah,” Izuku kept rambling on, completely oblivious about the amused clerk behind the booth’s counter or Hitoshi’s fond smile. Making eye-contact with the man, Hitoshi just shrugged.
“Would you like to try and win it?,” the man spoke up, effectively breaking Izuku out of his fanboy rant.
“Oh, uh…”
“Sure, why not,” Hitoshi found himself saying and then immediately panicking inertly. Why did he say that? What if he missed and made a fool out of himself?
“Alright then,” the clerk said and gestured to an array of weapons. “Pick whichever you want. Three tries for ten bucks.”

Hitoshi pulled out a bill from his pocket and handed it over while scanning the offered weapons. There were handguns and riffles in various sizes, but also bows, crossbows, throwing knifes and shuriken? An impressive selection, Hitoshi had to admit that. Most of the things weren't something he had experience with though. The only thing he had ever held in his hands before, where the standard guns and only because Snipe had made him try them out one day so he could get a feel for another long-distance weapon that wasn't his capture scarf.

“I'll try these,” Hitoshi said after a minute of contemplation.
“Alright,” the man said and did a swift security check on the weapon and loaded it with three mock bullets.
“There you go. For this piece, you usually gotta hit bullseye three times, but I like you, so I'll even give it to you if you just manage to hit it twice,” the man said and smiled at Hitoshi.
Hitoshi swallowed, but nodded his thanks. Hitting bullseye even once was a challenge in itself already, especially for Hitoshi. He wasn't used to shooting or aiming with much else than the capture weapon. Glancing over at his boyfriend, he saw that Izuku was watching everything with excitement.
“Go Hitoshi,” Izuku whisper-yelled when he caught Hitoshi looking at him. “And don't worry, I won't be sad if you miss.”
That was said with so much honesty that Hitoshi was even more determined to win this piece of merch for Izuku.

Hitoshi took a deep breath and looked at the medium sized target, maybe four meters behind the counter. With his vampire sight, he could see every tiny fleck of dust on the damn thing, but that didn't mean he would be hitting his goal.

Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder, pushing his arms the tiniest bit. Frowning, Hitoshi let himself being adjusted subtly by his boyfriend. The clerk was watching them with amusement.
“Take your time,” he said. Maybe he was being serious, because there wasn't anyone else around to be a potential costumer, but it still made Hitoshi feel pressured.
Hitoshi took a deep breath, glared at his target and tried to aim as best as he could, before he pulled the trigger. The gun made a sound that was pretty close to the original. Next to him, Izuku actually flinched the tiniest bit. The blowback actually surprised Hitoshi a bit, it was pretty strong for a fake gun. As he looked up at the target, his heart leaped in his chest.

“You did it!,” Izuku cheered and proceeded to throw an arm around Hitoshi’s shoulder. The man behind the counter looked impressed as well.
“Nice,” he said and nodded. “You’ve got two times left.”
Hitoshi nodded and took the gun into his non-dominant hand to shake out the effects of the blowback, before he retook this position, aiming for the second time.

The shot didn’t seem to be as loud as the first one had been, but that didn’t matter. Hitoshi missed bullseye by two inches. His shot was still pretty good for what little experience he had, but now all of his luck – and Izuku’s merch – depended on his very last try.
“Don’t worry, Toshi,” Izuku whispered into his ear as he was shaking his hand out once more to relax his muscles. “I’ll still love you, even if you miss.”
It was supposed to be a joke, but it still made Hitoshi’s heart clench a little. He took aim again and tried his best to mimic his position and standing from his first shot and then, before he had too much time to overthink it all, Hitoshi pulled the trigger.

For a moment, there was silence. And then, Hitoshi had his arms full of a jumping and excited Izuku.
“You did it! You did it!,” Izuku screamed into his ear and Hitoshi looked over Izuku’s shoulder to the very much hit bullseye. He had done it.
Relief filled him and he slowly wrapped his free arm around Izuku while putting down the weapon with the other.
“Awesome,” the clerk said and took the gun, disabled it and put it away. Then, he fetched the plush for them.
“There you go,” he said and handed the limited edition over to Hitoshi who immediately gave it to Izuku.
“Thank you,” Hitoshi said to the clerk who just shrugged.
“Nah, thank you. It’s not all day I get to make people this happy,” he replied and gestured over to Izuku with a grin. Hitoshi watched as Izuku buried his face in the plush and smiled. A pretty cute sight indeed. Not as pretty as the blush Hitoshi got to see once they reunited with the pro hero the merch was from, but still. Hitoshi was glad that he had managed to help gift his boyfriend with a happy birthday and some good memories.
