maybe caring was our ending

Chapter Text

Scott and drift were together, collecting wood, when Shelby joined them.

All three are quite emotionally drained because of the fighting, which is a bit of shock for scott to say such things. He didn't usually feel anything at all.

He looked at Shelby quietly, mimicking taps on her wrist.

It was to keep herself in check, to know that she wasn't hallucinating anything or is still alive.

The trio have been keeping to themselves mostly cause they'd rather not be left alone with Pyro or Owen.

Even Scott was unsure if he wanted to be all alone with those two vampires, especially after hearing that legundo has gone missing and possibly owen had gotten to him earlier.

It's been such a short amount of time, barely a few days, as they realized that Avid was gone, and it's clear for the entirety of the vampire faction that drift, shelby and Scott have decided to stick only by each other.

Scott didn't care if even the humans knew that he only trusted two vampires out of the entire bunch.

He's just so done with this. He's so used to his past of being practically worshiped that losing someone and the trust in the people around him just made him done with this whole thing.

-

Shelby mimicked the taps. She remembers how her father always did the same thing whenever he was nervous.

The pattern calming the brain, it still helped like her even now at this very moment.

She's not exactly tired. The anger stirring in herself didn't let her be tired.

She was angry, so angry. She never felt this angry in her entire life. Maybe this is what it feels like to lose a fledgling.

Shelby looked at drift now, resting on the remaining part of the tree trunk. She could relate to that empty look in drift's eyes.

God, how she wishes to stake Pyro and Owen for doing this.

-

Drift looked down at the ground, she wondered. She wondered how avid felt as he trusted so much.

He trusted enough to be lead to his own makeshift grave.

He must have been so confused why Pyro and Owen were being so friendly towards him.

Then, he must have been incredibly terrified. Drift couldn't help but feel terrible. She hates this.

She hates how proud Pyro sounded, announcing that he killed Avid with Owen.

Oh, how she wanted to make Pyro's smug face to be laced with fear. She wanted to see the apathy in Owen's face to become rage, then get to the point where he's just dead.

-

The silence was broken off by Scott speaking.

"I don't know if we should let them get away with this for this long. I'm usually patient, but..."

His words were quiet. But the two ladies heard what they needed to hear. And those two nodded. They fully agreed with what was said.

Shelby looked at Scott, who just looked at the tree. "Pyro's level one, too."

She thought outloud before a stake landed onto her lap. Drift smiled softly at the girl.

"You should do it. You're the one he affected the most. Scott and I can be your back up and deal with Owen."

Scott registered what was being said, and finally, after days of sulking, he smiled. It was a truthful grin. "You're right."

Shelby looked at the wooden item, and she just matched the smiles from the other two in front of her. "Alright."

The trio walked into the castle, ignoring the signs that a human had been here.

It's not their main problem now. Shelby looked to see Pyro going there with Owen both chatting with each other whilst sausage and cleo were also nearby.

All of them snapped their attention to them.

The glare that drift owned was definitely something unnerving.

Cleo and sausage made the good decision of leaving as soon as they caught drift's gaze. Pyro looked over, so he did owen.

Shelby smiled brightly, running over to Pyro. "Hey, Pyro!"

Pyro was a bit surprised at how cheerful Shelby was, but he smiled back. "Hello?"

Shelby grabbed Pyro's hand. "I have a new outfit Scott gave me, and I want to show it to you." And without another word, the other was dragged into the crypt.

Owen looked at the other two. "I thought you were upset."

He didn't sound all too bothered by it. "We are." Scott's words were laced with honey.

He took a step and now held a diamond sword. "But we need you two to be split for this to work."

Shelby was grinning ear to ear as a confused pyro followed.

He wasn't too scared or worried. It's Shelby, for goodness sake. They'll be fine.

"You know, pyro. I was quite upset with you." Shelby spoke like she was talking about the weather, and she turned back.

"You turn me brutally, leaving a messy scar across my shoulder blade, then you go and kill my fledgling. I was sad, now I'm not."

Pyro only raised an eyebrow. "Oh? So you finally realized he's a loose threat. That Avid fellow never really stood a chance, did he - UGHH."

The man was thrown to the harsh and rocky floor as Shelby loomed over him like they were her prey.

"I was sad. Now, I'm genuinely pissed."

A stake appeared from her inventory as she took one look at it.

"I'm not a killer or a fighter truly, you know. I hate violence of any sort. It makes me nauseous."

Pyro looked at how the girl, his fledgling, spinned the stake in her hand with precision. The same precision Pyro used on Avid. But the look in her eyes didn't have pride, not smugness.

It was rage, bone melting rage.

"I hate you. I hated you from the day you turned me. You make me feel like I'm a fighter in the worst ways possible."

She took another step, now leaning down to be face to face with Pyro.

The man was too terrified to move his body at all. "So why don't I just make you regret making me feel this way."

A punch landed straight at Pyro's nose as he screamed. He backed away, stumbling to get up before another punch landed on him, making falter.

"You ruin everything."

Another smack that sounded more bloody than the last.

"You make me be a monster."

A kick to trip him as he yelled. "DON'T DO THIS SHELBY, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SCOTT WILL DO TO YOU -"

and then a slam of steak straight to bones and flesh could be heard. Blood laced Shelby's hands as she looked at the now lifeless corpse.

"Scott's gonna be glad." She licked off the blood from her palm and headed back up.

The grin from her face was back, even if she was covered in the blood of her own sire.

Owen growled at the two.

Scott and drift moved forward, both holding diamond tools. "Back away now, goldsmith. I'm not dying, not yet."

The two ignored it whilst Scott just laughed.

"Oh, Owen. You know, death isn't so bad. I know you miss someone dearly. Wouldn't you dying get you back to them?" That made Owen hesitate.

Then he lunged, both drift and Scott moved aside. Mirroring each other's moves with precision.

"No, I'm not dying. Louis death was at the hand of humans. I need to enact revenge -" a slice was to his legs as he stumbled forwards.

A grunt escaped him whilst he stood back up from the injury healing.

"Get away from me!" He yelled, now targeting drift. Who laughed and caught Owen's hand. Twisting it.

"No." Her tone was dead serious. Scott pushed Owen back to the ground even if he got back up.

This is bad for him.

Even if he's strong, he can't fight against an elder vampire and his fledgling at once. He's already used up all of his invisibility, and bat.

The teleportation needs to not move, yet he's being pushed, shoved, kicked, and sliced with claws or sword.

Scott moved back, letting drift make most of the damage as she yelled.

"YOU BASTARD. YOU STUPIDLY SMUG BASTARD."

She clawed at his face until it was bloody. The screaming stopped, but Owen still mustered up the strength to glare at the other vampire.

Drift pulled out a steak. Owen's eyes widened, and he rolled to the other side of the room, ready to book for the crypt to get pyro out.

Instead, he hit someone's shoes. Owen looked up to see Shelby with her hands covered in blood with a wooden stake in her hand.

It was also drench in blood.

It made the man freeze for enough time for drift to slam her steak into his heart.

Owen's eyes widened, and he growled. Y... you're no better than me -" and finally he died.

Scott sighed. Quietly taking away Drift's and Shelby's steaks and throwing them across the existing since now it's trash.

Shelby looked at Owen's anger frozen face. His corpse will be stuck like this for centuries, no millennium, actually.

She knew Pyro's terrified face would be the same for the future to come, and none of them regretted what had happened.

The door of the castle slammed open to reveal a group of five. Abolish, a turned legundo, cleo, sausage, and Ren.

They all stared at the blood and mess that was Owen's corpse. Abolish was the only one to speak. "Well. That's one problem down."
