Chapter Text
Jake sat in his bedroom with his headphones on and his hands around his controller. Every night after dinner he went to his room and played video games until his eyes hurt and finally went to sleep, usually around 2am every morning. The only other person who knew that this was what he did with his nights was his best friend, Nick, and his sister. Tonight was no different to any other. He had dinner, spoke with his mum for a bit before he crawled away into his room, curled up on his bed and started playing.
He rubbed his eyes and could feel that sleep was started to tempt him from abandoning his game. He glanced at the clock. It's only 1:50, I can probably play for a little while longer. He yawned before looking back to his small TV screen propped up on his desk before continuing his game. It was a new release that had come out a few days ago, and Jake couldn't stop playing it. It was a game where you got to pick your favourite avenger and play as them during the battle of New York. Jake had wanted to play as Spider-Man, but unfortunately the game only had the original six avengers. So, Jake was playing as Iron Man.
I can't believe I got to meet Iron Man. He is so cool! He's a genius, a billionaire, he helps people who are in need, and he has the most awesome suit ever and saves the world... Well, Spider-Man's suit is my favourite but I do still really like Iron Man's. Jake smiled happily as he continued to kill aliens in the streets of New York. He played for another 20 minutes before he decided that it was late and that he should probably go to sleep. He slipped off his headphones, saved the game, and turned off the TV. He slid of the bottom of the bed where he had been sitting and felt his feet hit the cold floor beneath him. As he swallowed he noticed how thirsty he was.
He turned and walked towards his door before opening it and being greeted with darkness. He yawned as he walked down the hallway and into the kitchen, grabbing a glass and filling it with water before he turned to walk back to his room. As he approached, he noticed the light under Michelle's door was still on. He paused and raised an eyebrow. What's she still doing up? He held the glass in one hand as he knocked on her door. "Mitchie? Are you awake?" He waited outside as he heard some shuffling and other sounds come from her room before she opened the door.
"Everything okay, Poptart?" She asked. Why does she always have to call me Poptart? I do have a name, you know? He nodded, "Yeah, I just came to get a glass of water and saw the light under your door. I just wanted to see if you were okay, I guess." She smiled at him, and he could see that she looked strangely awake for the time that it was. "Thanks, Poptart, but I'm alright. Just reading." Jake nodded and took a sip of his glass, while doing so he noticed that her bed had two indents on the sheet, like someone had sat on it. He didn't know how he noticed it but he thought it was odd, brushing it off as her having made both of them.
"Okay, I'll go back to bed," he paused as he smiled, and couldn't help but say "Dream of books and Peter, Mitchie. I know you like him." Usually when he said these things she would get really mad at him or tell him to shut up, but he was surprised when he saw her actually get a little embarrassed. "Go to bed before I smack you over the head with a pillow, Poptart," she said after a moment. Ahh, there she is. He laughed mischievously before turning and walking back to his room, closing the door and crawling into bed. He finished the glass before laying down and after a moment he fell asleep.
When he woke up the next morning feeling strangely energized, he walked out to quickly go to the bathroom before seeing if his sister was awake yet. He loved it when she was still asleep cause he could annoy her by waking her up. To his disappointment her door was open and she wasn't inside, and judging by the fact that the house smelt like pancakes he guessed she had made breakfast. He walked out into the kitchen and found her at the table, eating some pancakes as she was reading her book. "Mornin' Mitchie," he said as he passed her to grab his own plate. "Hey," she said back.
He sat down next to her and immediately started to devour the food. "Slow down you look like a pig eating that fast," she said as she kept reading. "Bite me." She sent him a glare before looking back at her own plate and taking another mouthful. "Have you seen Mum this morning?" He asked after he finished and started to finish off his orange juice. "No, she left a note saying she got called into work early for an important meeting that got rescheduled." Jake nodded before taking another gulp from his glass.
"Did you bring out the glass of water that you had last night?" She asked him. Jake cringed, knowing that he hadn't and that she would be angry. He couldn't lie to her either, as she had been in the kitchen the whole time and wouldn't have seen him. "No, I forgot. I'll do it now just please don't kill me." She laughed a little before nodding and picked up her phone as it buzzed. He quickly ran down to his room, grabbed the glass and brought it back out to the kitchen where he placed it in the sink. "You okay with walking to school with Peter today?" She asked him.
Jake smiled, "YES! That would be awesome. I love Peter. He is everything I aspire to be in life." She looked at him with a blank expression for a bit before looking back at her phone. "Right. Well, you better get ready cause we are going to go soon." Jake nodded before he ran down to the bathroom, took a speedy shower and then started to get ready. After a while he heard Michelle call out, "Poptart! Let's go, Peter is downstairs waiting!"
He grabbed his stuff and rushed out the front door. "IM cOmiNG PeTEr!!!!" Michelle locked the door behind him, "You know you are twelve, not four, right?" Jake glared back at her, "Shut up, you can't control me!" She glared at him again but for some reason didn't yell at him or threaten his life like she usually does. OOOHHHHHH I think someone is too excited to see Peter that she can't be mad at me. HEHEHAHAHEHEHAAAAAAA!!!
When they made their way down and finally walked outside he immediately spotted Peter leaning against a wall, waiting for them. "Peter!" Jake called excitedly. He didn't know why he always got so happy around Peter, but all he did know was that he enjoyed talking to him and really admired him. Also the fact that I'm about 100% sure that Mitchie likes him and he likes her also makes this really fun. I wonder when they will finally admit how they feel I mean come on guys just GET TOGETHER ALREADY!
Peter looked over to them when Jake called his name and pushed himself off the wall. "Hey Jake, how's it going?" He asked when they got close enough. Jake gave him a fist bump. "I'm good. Haven't been doing much, what about you? Anything fun with your internship? Meet anyone cool?" Oh yeah did I mention the fact that Peter has an internship with Stark Industries because hE hAs aN iNTerNsHIp wITh StARK InDusTRIeS!!!!!
"Oh, you know. Same old stuff." Soooo coooollllllllll....... Michelle gestured for them to go so they all started to walk to school together. "You will never guess who I met the other day!" He said as they walked. Peter smiled while looking at Michelle then back down at Jake, "I dunno. Who?" Jake couldn't keep the smile off his face or the pride in his voice as he spoke. "I met Iron Man and Spider-Man again!" The memory flashed across his brain making him smile even more. "No way! That's awesome!"
"I know. Also thank you for asking Spider-Man to come and talk to me. It was so awesome. I still can't believe you know Spider-Man." Jake felt so happy and grateful in that moment that he couldn't think of anywhere else he would rather be. They kept walking and after a while Ned joined them. "Hey Jake! How are you dude?" Ned asked him when he met up with them. "I'm great. You?" Ned smiled, "I'm good." Jake's smile kept getting bigger and bigger. He was always pretty happy, but right now he was utterly ecstatic. Walking with his sister and her two friends that he held such high admiration for, all talking and smiling. Nothing could have made this moment better. "Wow, you're walking your girlfriend to school now? Nice."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the moment where Jake Jones died. "GIRLFRIEND????????!!!!! WWWWHHHHHHAAAAAATTTTTTTTT?????!!!!! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???!! MITCHIE!!! I KNEW YOU LIKED HIM!!! AAAAAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Jake screamed. "Jake, shut up! People are looking at you like you're a lunatic!" Jake stopped screaming and looked around, seeing that people were indeed staring at him. He felt heat rise to his cheeks. "Sorry. But when the hell did this happen?! Why didn't you tell me?"
"Uh, it hasn't been long. Only a few days, since the terrorist attack at school. And I didn't tell you because I knew that this was how you would react." Ouch. "Now, can we keep walking to school." But...But... fine, you'll answer my questions later. But OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! I knew it! I knew they liked each other. Yes! They finally got together I'm so happy!!! It's like a TV show but in real life! "I'm so happy," He mumbled to himself as they started walking again. "Glad my relationship status pleases you, Poptart." She said, making them all laugh.
Before to long they made it to school and they all said goodbye. Jake started to run towards his school so he could tell Nick about what happened. "NICK!!! NICKKKKK!!!" Jake screamed as he found his friend playing basketball. "What?" he asked as he made the shot. "Mitchie and Peter got together!" Nick's jaw dropped. Jake had been telling Nick the whole story about how he met Peter and Ned, and how he was sure that his sister liked him, so he knew Nick would be just as excited about it as he was.
"Really?! Since when?" Jake stopped in front of his friend and put his hands on his knees as he caught his breath. "A few days ago apparently! Man, I'm so happy." Nick smiled as he grabbed the ball and tucked it under his arm. "Me too. That's crazy. Come on, lets head to history class before we're late. Tell me about it on the way." Jake smiled, "Okay. This is so cool. I'm glad they got their happy ending."
