Chapter Text

The sun shone beautifully outside his window. So golden. So warm. Will's head was killing him. He felt so warm, so comfortable. He slept the best he's slept in weeks. His eyes slowly fluttered open, much to his protest to stay asleep. He should really get some curtains. That thought quickly left his brain when he realized where he was. And who he was with.

Underneath him, was Mike. A sleeping Mike, at that. He was laying on his back, one arm around Will's back and the other in his hair. Did he stay like that all night?

Will was laying face down, his chest against Mike's stomach and his head on Mike's chest. His head softly rose and fell with the rhythm of Mike's breathing. His arm was around the left side of Mike's chest, the other, resting beside his face on Mike's bicep. His ear stayed pressed against the boys chest, his heart beat soothing Will's headache.

Will had his legs and lower half of his body comfortably in between Mike's legs. His right leg bent out a bit, which was underneath Mike's left leg. The other layed out straight. His heart was picking up speed. He had never been so close to someone like this before, so close to Mike. Before he could have time to fully react, he heard Mike stirring below him. His immediate reaction was to shut his eyes, stupidly acting as though he was still asleep.

Mike slowly woke up, feeling the comfortable weight of Will on top of him. His hand remained in his, supposed to be, sleeping boyfriend's hair, slowly moving it as to not wake him up. He can really see the way the gorgeous sunlight lit up Will's bedroom brightly, hurting Mike's eyes as he layed there, his boyfriend atop him.

God, that was so crazy to think.

Without thinking, he pulled Will closer, hearing him let out a soft breath. He froze, hoping he hadn't woken Will up. This was quickly proven when Will's hands came up to his face, digging the heels of his palms into his eyes. All Mike could do was smile. He ran his fingers through Will's hair, his smile never falling. Will placed his hands on either side of Mike, sleepily lifting himself up. He looked at Mike, his eyes squinting a bit, due to the bright light and his migraine. He expected Will to get up, but all he did was push himself up higher on Mike, his face quickly finding itself under Mike's chin. He would stay there all day if he could. But eventually, they had to get up. And Mike has never been happier.

Hiding their relationship was hard, to say the least. Sure, they'd always been close, but now, it felt like they were calling themselves out. But the two were extremely clingy when it came to one another, Mike more so than Will.

The first few weeks, Mike was scared to show any kind of sign they were dating. He would try and keep his distance from Will in public, profusely apologizing and making up for it once they were alone. Will was slightly hurt, at first. But eventually, he understood. Being like this in the time they were was not easy. But soon enough, it was like a switch was flipped.

Every time they were in public, as of recently, Will's personal space was Mike's personal space. This is how they always used to be, but more so now than ever. He would always find a way to touch Will, whether that was a hand on his shoulder, hugging for longer than needed, letting their fingers touch everytime he passed something. He was Will obsessed. Every time something like this happened, Lucas would eye the both of them. He looked like he knew something. Lucas was about to know much more than he needed.

It was summer time, everyone visiting Hawkins for "old times sake". Mike and Will had decided to spend the summer in the Wheeler house, sharing Mike's room with no complaints. It really reminded Mike of the time Will came home from California. Except, this time, they weren't scared of their feelings.

This night, they were all at Lucas' house for a summer party. It was apparently a fad of some sort to visit your home town during summer break, so a large amount of their graduating class was there. Being the good son he was, Lucas had asked his parents if they were okay with him throwing the party there, obviously not expecting that many people there. They told him to go nuts, but don't break anything.

So here they were, pulling up to Lucas' house in Mike's Navy blue '86 Cadillac DeVille, Mike's hand holding Will's in between their seats. Once the car came to a stop, they gave each other a quick look, a sweet, love-sick smile, because both hopping out of the car and into the house. Before they left Mike's, they had both agreed not to drink tonight. Mike was the driver, so if Mike wasn't drinking, Will didn't want to.

"Will! Mike! Do you see how many people are here?!" Dustin yelled over the music, walking towards them with a solo cup in his hand.

"Yeah. . How did the word get around?" Will asked a tad nervously. He could tell Dustin was already a bit drunk. Then, he spotted a slightly stresses looking Lucas, with an excited Max walking behind him.

"There are too many people here, I swear, if someone breaks something I'm dead." He had his hand on the top of his head, Max smiling at him with her arm around his waist.

"What do you mean, man?! This party is awesome---!"

Dustin yelling was eventually washed out, as Mike and Will went into their own world. This was a normal occurrence for the two of them, always has been.

The night went on with Lucas eventually chilling out, Max killing it in beer pong, Dustin drinking and cheering her on, and Mike and Will dragging one another around by the wrist. Any time Will went anywhere, Mike insisted on going with him. And any time Mike went anywhere, he insisted Will went with him. Will was obsessed with this side of Mike.

At some point, Will doesn't know when, Mike pulled him up the stairs, and into the upstairs bathroom. It was the less crowded one, and gave them a space to be alone with one another. The moment the door shut, Will could hear a faint buzzing in his ears.

"God, how much louder can they get?" Mike asked rhetorically, his back hitting the bathroom door. Will was leaning against the counter, eyeing Mike. He had on a pair of dark blue jeans, ones that made his legs look impossibly longer. He had a pair of black converse on, long white socks peaking under his jeans. The shoes were covered in drawings from Will, this is due to Mike begging him to draw on them when he had his feet in Will's lap a few months prior. It was a normal occurrence for Mike to come over to Will's, school night or not, and vice versa. They stayed over at each others places so often that people at their schools thought they were new roommates. And every morning he had early classes, before leaving, Mike would gently shake Will awake, only a little. He woke him just enough to steal a kiss or plant one on the boys forehead. He wanted Will to know he left, instead of waking up to no one there.

Will's eyes reached Mike's chest, the logo harsh in his view. Mike's hellfire shirt. Mike had a bit more muscle on him than he did in high school, so the shirt fit a tad tighter than that picture Will loved so much. And he looked good

Will, on the other hand, had on a navy and light blue striped shirt. He paired it with dark brown corduroy pants, his white and green adidas sambas, and necklace that had a tear drop with flames in it as the pendant. The symbol of a sorcerer. Mike had bought it for him a couple of months ago. When he opened it, all he could do was smile like an idiot and roll his eyes at his boyfriend. Stating, "I'm not a sorcerer, Mike." While it was supposed to come off as jokingly annoyed, it was endearing. And Mike only smiled, kissing Will's cheek, retaliating with, "you're my sorcerer," so matter-of-factly as he put it around Will's neck. The flirting was so nerdy and bad that anyone else would roll their eyes and walk away. It just made Will's face warm and he just smiled harder. He loved Mike for exactly who he was.

"You look good," Will was already walking towards Mike, who was meeting him in the middle. His hands immediately slid to Will's waist, pulling him close as Will's own arms wrapped around the back of Mike's neck. Will loved how close they were.

"So do you, sorcerer." Mike rubbed up and down Will's waist, slowly pushing him back until he bumped into the counter. Will was so obsessed with Mike, he could say the corniest thing of all time and Will would just fall harder.

It wasn't long before they were kissing. Just one, at first. Almost innocent. But it quickly turned into a desperate, quick make out session. Will's elbows rested on Mike's shoulders, his fingers already threaded into his boyfriend's hair. Mike's own hands firmly held Will's waist, then his hips, then pulled him in closer by his belt loops. Will's head felt fuzzy.

The moment Will felt Mike's tongue run over his bottom lip, any remaining thoughts he had in his head disappeared. And his mouth was open nearly immediately.

This was the kind of make out that would leave you walking away dizzy, legs shaky, light headed. The kind of make out Will never imagined he would get to have with Mike Wheeler.

Speaking of Mike, his hand was starting to push up past the hem of Will's shirt, and finding it's way underneath it. As Will let out a sigh through his nose, feeling the shivers Mike's fingers left behind on his bare waist, there was a sound. One neither Mike, nor Will expected in the slightest. A voice.

"God, how is everyone--"

Lucas stood in the now open door frame, mouth slightly agape as he looked the two boys up and down, who were both now apart, though still standing close.

Shit.

"Oh-- uhm, my bad. . ."

Lucas looked slightly, very slightly, shocked, but mostly amused. His eyebrows were raised and he has a small smirk on his face.

"Didn't mean to interrupt. ." Though, he still stood there. Soon enough, Max appeared behind him, talking loudly.

"Lucas, someone is throwing up in the. . .what's going on?" She, too, looked them both up and down.

"Nothing--" They spoke in unison, hands behind their backs.

This was not how they planned on telling everyone about their relationship.

"Then why are---"

"We were actually just leaving! I mean, it's getting kind of late and we have some plans tomorrow, see you guys later!"

Mike quickly spit out an excuse, grabbing Will's hand and pulling him out of the bathroom, down the stairs, through the front door, and into his car.

They stared at one another, breathing heavily. Mike's hand landed back on Will's.

There was no hiding it now. It was clear.

Mike Wheeler loved Will Byers. And Will Byers loved Mike Wheeler.

And, shockingly, to Lucas' surprise, they did something about it. Something good
