Chapter Text

[{Shinichi POV}]

“Mom! Dad!”

“Kasumi, Sumire, you both did great! We saw you both! You two did amazing!” My wife, Hana, greets the two as they sit at the dinner table. They went to the meet earlier and placed 1st and 2nd. Kasumi took the gold while Sumire attained 2nd, I do hope this doesn't effect their relationship.

I've noticed it for a while but, whenever they compete against each other, Sumire always looks down, never really placing first when Kasumi was there.

They're both naturally competitive, as sisters who were raised together and share the same interests, they always competed. Though, Kasumi usually wins their contest.

I do notice that Sumire might have developed an inferiority complex due to this.

I saw it in the way she would put her self down whenever she made a mistake, or how when she wouldn't place first, even when she wasn't against Kasumi, she would always be gloomy or sad. She even says negative things about herself.

But, as I see them sit down, Sumire is…smiling? And Kasumi’s the one pouting?

That's unnatural. Even if it is a good thing, I wonder what happened to not make her slump in her seat? If I could figure it out, maybe this could help me cheer her up in the future.

It seems that it was not only me that noticed this but also my wife as she was also eyeing Sumire.

“Youre happy Sumire.”

“Oh, of course she'd be happy.” I hear Kasumi grumble from her seat.

“Oh, and why is that?”

“W-well, y-you see, um, today I, uhh…” Sumire stammered in her words, she was nervous. Whatever could have happened?

“Oh now you're shy.” Kasumi mutters, glaring at her sister. “Earlier you were so touchy-feely with that Kurusu guy, but you decide to be shy now?”

“What's this about Kasumi? And what do you mean Sumire was ‘touchy-feely’” Hana gently asks, placing a hand on Kasumi’s.

Kasumi continues to pout as Sumire still looks nervous to tell us about what happened.

“Sumire’s been keeping a big secret from me. We promised to tell you know!”

I shake my head. “What are you talking about?”

Kasumi opens her mouth, but Sumire quickly places a hand on Kasumi’s mouth as she tried to speak. Frantically moving around, she seems to gain enough courage to talk about today.

“Well, t-today I met up with my boyfriend and, uhh, well he, um, congratulated me on second and he invited me to dinner on golden week.” She blurts out quickly, each syllable after boyfriend hurting like a knife to the heart.

When did she get a boyfriend? She talks to us about almost everyone she befriends but no mention of a boyfriend? Was it recent? Was he a bad guy?

“...what?” Hana looks like she's about to collapse, muttering about ‘they grow up so fast’ “You had a boyfriend and didn't tell me? I could've helped you dress up for your first date, give you tips, helped you steal his heart. You would've taken him off his feet the moment you asked me. I…I thought I said to ask me about dating advice.”

“When did you get one of those?”

Sumire turns her attention to the ceiling fan above the table. Her hands fidgeting about.

“A year.” She says barely above a whisper. That doesn't stop me from hearing it though. A year. And we didn't know? Did she not trust us with her secret? We're we that neglectful? That our own daughter didn't think of going to us about this ‘Kurusu’ boy?

“Can you just tell us about today?”

Kasumi perks up and begins to tell, much to her sister's embarrassment.

After Kasumi’s tale and us having Sumire answer more questions, we understand much of her reason to hide her relationship.

One, they didn't wish for it to distract them from gymnastics so they rarely meet up, also the fact that we might think it was distracting her.

Two, both of them were uncomfortable about telling people about their relationship. They are young so it makes sense. Probably afraid of people judging them.

Now, her partner was just in an accident. He found out about her immediately after he came home from the hospital. He lost his memory, but Sumire was one of the things he remembered. His parents also now know, so his parents invited us over for golden week.

We'll think about it later, but we will probably accept it. It would be a great chance to meet her boyfriend.

We finish the day off with a movie, ‘The princess bride.’

We figured watching one of our favorites will help with digesting what happened today.

Throughout the movie, Kasumi just kept on teasing Sumire when any romantic scene came on.

[{Ayo POV}]

We start to get ready for the dinner were hosting.

The family of Akira's girlfriend agreed to meet today so I tell the maids of what to get ready.

Were serving barbecue.

Barbecue because it's Akira's favorite, he always liked exotic foods. If you could call barbecue exotic.

We get the grill and the barbecue ready. Ribs coated in seasoning, meat on skewers, marinated meats, sausages and hot dogs, plus a lttle sea food for variety.

The chefs also prepared salads, appetizers, and soups to pair with the barbecue.

All we gad to do now was wait for Akira since he was picking up our guests.

[{Shinichi POV}]

“Sumire! Kasumi! Are you two ready?”

I call my daughters down as a very nice car pulls up on our drive way.

I still can't believe this is happening. We're having dinner at the Kurusu’s. One of Japans most prestigious families. Known as Japans most generous family, donating an amount close to a billion yen.

Out the car came out a young man. An obvious feature about him is his striking grey eyes. Those eyes scan across our home, landing on my very own.

He strides across our lawn and waves his hand at me.

“Are you Sumire’s father?”

“Yes, I am. I'm assuming you're Akira right?”

He nods and offers a small smile. “Yes, Akira Kurusu, nice to meet you…Shinichi-san right? Ah, wait, may I call you Shinichi-san? That was rude of me, sorry.” His voice is soft, like cotton.

So this is the guy Sumire fell for. He's polite, gentle, respectful, and probably loves Sumire a ton. Knowing that he remembered her immediately after he lost his memory puts a smile on my heart.

For him to love her so much that he remembered her, it's hard to not trust him.

“Akira!”

Sumire ran out the door and hugged Akira the moment she got close to him.

“Sumire.” He simply smiled and reciprocates the hug.

We then enter the ride he brought and he led us towards Yasoinaba and their estate.

Dinner was nice. We ate barbecue and shared stories. Most of them about Akira and Sumire.

When dinner was over, Akira escorted us back to the car and bid us farewell. He gives Sumire a little gift and kisses her. Only on the cheek but it still felt uncomfortable, seeing my shy little girl be kissed in front of me.

We return home and retire for the night. It has been one heck of a day.
