Chapter Text

Trinity was all nerves the next day. Her and Yolanda had plans- or at least they did before the little mishap yesterday. Every time she made one wrong move, or fuck- someone else made a wrong move, Garcia went no contact. So who the fuck knew if she would show up to dinner. Definitely not Trinity. She'd called her three times, texted her ten, and at some point felt too needy and pathetic to continue. Was she being pushy? Sure they were “casual” or whatever- but that didn't mean that the other woman could just blow her off whenever she wanted! If it was just sex, Trinity would much prefer Yolanda just told her that, instead of making up some bullshit to pacify her.

She should make other plans, maybe rub it in her situation-ship's face. But she liked her too much. It was frustrating, how confident she was, how her skin glowed in the morning sun, how her hair looked spread out on a pillow as Trinity hovered over her. She probably shouldn't say she's in love. But that didn't make the lingering thought go away.

Worst of all, Whitaker and Rabinavitch were being all lovey dovey all day. Trinity came skulking out of her room in the morning after a night of overthinking and dreading her lonely life, to find them practically making out while Dennis once again attempted to cook. It was gross. And so fucking annoying.

Now here she was, nervously preparing herself for what is supposed to be a date. She had been excited all week, this was supposed to finally be her chance. To finally win over Yolanda and stop all this “casual” shit. Then huckleberry fucked it up.

She was just finishing her makeup, when her phone began buzzing, Garcia’s contact popping up on the screen. She was calling. That had to be a good sign right?

Trinity practically threw herself across the room to grab it, and quickly answered, pressing the phone to her ear.

“Hello?”

“...Trinity?” she didn't sound as ecstatic as the brunette had hoped. Usually when she was in a good mood her voice held a certain warmth that Trinity had grown to covet.

“Yeah- yes?”

There was a few seconds of silence before Yolanda answered, “gonna need a rain check for tonight.”

Trinity's heart sank, her body immediately sagging. She should have expected it really. She was stupid for thinking it would happen. But she was also bitter.

“I…Yolanda, we planned this like three weeks ago.”

She huffed- like she was the victim here, “yeah well- something came up, Trin.”

“Something came up?” Trinity scoffed, standing up, “you couldn't have fucking called me any sooner than twenty minutes before our reservation!? I just finished getting ready! What came up so soon?”

She usually would just let it go, quietly agree and wait for an apology later. But she was upset and hurt from yesterday and huckleberry rubbing his perfect relationship in her face all day.

“Why is that important?”

“Because you only called me twenty minutes before the reservation! And you've been ignoring me all day. I think I have a right to know.”

“...I…have other plans.”

This was ridiculous. She couldn't even give her a proper answer. Trinity was so upset she didn't even realize she had been sitting in uncomfortable silence until Yolanda begrudgingly continued.

“...with Langdon.”

Oh fuck no.

“With Langdon!?” She scoffed, “you're ditching our date- ditching me- for Langdon!?”

Yolanda sighed, that judgmental, patronizing sigh, “look, first of all, it was not a date it was a…a…dinner. Second of all, Langdon is going through a lot right now ok? He needs the support.”

She couldn't do anything but sit in stunned silence before hanging up. It wasn't fair. What had she done to deserve this? To be so patheticly in love with someone who would avoid her at every chance. Who stopped her from telling people they were together, who wouldn't even call dates dates.

She cried as she took off her make up. Cried as she put away the dress- the one in Yolanda’s favorite color. Stupid. She must have been loud, because at some point Dennis knocked softly on the door and peaked his head in.

“...I assume your dinner date is off.”

She just nodded a bit, wet eyes staring at the floor. She felt like a teenager again. Giving all her love to someone, opening herself up, and then getting the shit beat out of her. Getting taken advantage of. It made her feel gross. Not worthy.

Dennis sighed, “...hey…I'll kick Michael out and we can do something yeah?”

She swallowed hard, wiping at her eyes, “that's nice huckleberry, but I want to be alone. Go have fun with your boyfriend.”

“...are you sure…?”

She nodded, squeezing her eyes shut as new tears blossomed.

…..

Yolanda called the next day. Early, before work while Trinity was trying to wash away the exhaustion and redness from her eyes. She was strangely proud of herself when she let it go to voice mail.

Then she was less proud when she listened to said voice mail after parking in the comfort of her own car.

She closed her eyes as the other woman’s voice filled the small space.

“Ok look- I was kind of an ass yesterday and I'm sorry, I shouldn't have canceled on you like that. I was just…I….was spooked by the whole Rabinavitch thing I guess. Can I please make it up to you? Whenever wherever you want, baby, I'm serious.”

The beep cut through the stale air as the voice message ended. As much as she hated it, Trinity wasn't surprised. This was the routine. Garcia fucked her over and then Santos let her come straight back to do it again each time it was worse. It sucked. And Trinity was done. If fuckleberry could find a loving partner, so could she.

She deleted the voice mail, and gathered her things, and her confidence, before entering the building. The only good thing in this situation was Garcia’s position in the OR, she only ever came down for consultations, and trinity was rarely on those cases. So if she played it safe, their interaction should be minimal. Hopefully.

….

Trinity saw Yolanda a total of three times that day.
