Chapter Text

Much to Shauna’s disappointment, Jackie and Jeff joined them on their fourth day of skiing. She knew it was wrong to be upset that your best friend wanted to ski with you after she brought you to a resort, but Shauna only felt slightly guilty as she watched Jeff and Melissa try to outdo each other on one of the box ramps.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to spend time with Jackie. It was just the fact that she’d been enjoying her time with Melissa so much, and she also couldn't stop thinking about the fact that she was staying the night with her now.

They hadn’t even kissed yet, and Shauna knew she was getting ahead of herself, but she couldn’t help it. All she wanted to do was say ‘fuck skiing’ and drag Melissa away.

But Jackie seemed elated to see Jeff and Melissa hitting it off so well, and Shauna was already terrified of the future double dates they would be dragged into.

If this whole thing with Melissa actually worked out. Shauna didn’t want to think about that, though. Especially when Melissa landed a trick off the box, immediately looking up to smile at her.

She had a sneaking suspicion it would.

“I can see why you like her,” Jackie said from beside Shauna, breaking her from her thoughts. “I mean, I always knew she was kind of a…goofball? But it is really endearing.”

“Back off,” Shauna joked, smirking as Jackie rolled her eyes. “You have your own goofball. And they seem to be getting along well.”

“Yeah,” Jackie sighed, looking down at the duo as she continued. “We’re gonna be able to have so many double dates now!”

Shauna called it.

She laughed, deciding that agreeing with Jackie was much easier than explaining why she’d much rather spend as much alone time with Melissa as possible. She’d already heard enough jokes about their (currently non-existent) sex life to last her a lifetime.

She endured enough of it yesterday, especially after Jackie had gotten a whole new set of ammunition when Shauna had told her she was going to be staying the night with Melissa.

Once they noticed Jeff and Melissa beginning to head further down the hill, Jackie and Shauna followed along. Shauna had to admit she enjoyed actually being able to keep up with everyone and was finally understanding why Jackie had been so adamant about her coming along.

Granted, there was a bit of an unforeseen bonus this year. Not that anyone was going to complain about that. Jackie had practically insisted they all go into town for lunch, Shauna’s side-eye doing nothing to deter her from yet another pseudo double-date.

When they got back to Wiskayok, Shauna was going to need at least five solo dates to make up for all of this.

They settled on a diner in town, Melissa insisting they had the best milkshakes in all of Colorado. Shauna had noticed Jackie going to point out it was the middle of winter, and had stomped on her foot (lightly) to keep her from spoiling Melissa’s excitement.

Shauna might have gotten a little something out of it, too. She felt her cheeks flush when Melissa ordered a strawberry milkshake, excitedly asking the waitress for two straws. Then she chuckled when Jeff ordered a chocolate milkshake for himself, completely missing the expectant look Jackie sent him.

When the milkshakes arrived, Shauna felt a very excited pair of eyes on her. She immediately took a sip, confirming to Melissa that they did, in fact, have one of the best milkshakes she’d ever tried.

She wasn’t even sure if that was true. Shauna was not a milkshake girl. She just really didn’t want to dampen the light in those bright blue eyes.

After stuffing themselves full of greasy burgers and crispy chicken tenders, the group headed back to the resort. They decided to split up after arriving, Shauna promising she’d get back in touch with Jackie later.

Once Jeff and Jackie had disappeared, Shauna started to walk back over to the rental stand, assuming she and Melissa would be headed off for the slopes again. But Melissa quickly stopped her, reaching out to grab onto her wrist.

“Hey, I know the whole goal of this was to turn you into a pro and all,” Melissa started, smiling softly. “I’d say you’re practically there.”

Shauna laughed, not believing her for a second. But she really couldn’t argue with the fact that she was indeed much better than when she had started.

“You think so?” She tilted her head.

“I do,” Melissa nodded in confirmation. “I’m saying this because…what if we did something else for a few hours?”

Shauna paused. While she was beginning to enjoy skiing, something else sounded fun. Her mind raced to a million different things, though she quickly paused all of those thoughts. She highly doubted Melissa was planning on anything she could possibly think of, so instead she kept quiet, simply nodding to get Melissa to continue.

“I texted my brother while we were at lunch,” Melissa said. “Asked him if we could do something not exactly open to the public. You down?”

Shauna was even more intrigued now. She had no idea what the resort could have that wasn’t open to the public.

“I’d be down,” Shauna nodded. “You’re not gonna tell me until we get there, are you?”

Normally, Shauna hated surprises, but it seemed Melissa loved them. Plus, she hadn’t been let down by them yet.

(She really needed that buffalo chicken dip recipe. Or to make sure she at least locked down the girl that made it.)

“Nope!” Melissa confirmed. “C’mon, it’s a short walk that way.”

Melissa pointed past the practice hill they’d spent most of their time on, and while Shauna had never noticed anything beyond it before, she found herself walking alongside Melissa as they made their way over to whatever was waiting for them.

As they crossed over the small hill, Melissa led them around the tree line. As soon as they made it to the other side, Shauna’s jaw dropped.

There was a whole other hill hiding, complete with its very own magic carpet, though this one was certainly longer than the one on the practice hill.

“Why did we not bring our gear?” Shauna questioned, looking around to see if she was missing something. That’s when she noticed Logan coming up from a storage shed that was off to the side.

He was carrying a huge inner tube, kinda like the ones Jackie and her would ride at the lake in the summer. That’s when Shauna started to figure out what was going on.

“Only one?” Melissa tilted her head as Logan brought it over to them.

Logan rolled his eyes, pushing it into Melissa’s arms. “I’m already turning the carpet on for you, excuse me for not feeling like blowing up more than one tube!” Then he smirked slightly, glancing over at Shauna for a split second. “Besides, don’t act like you wouldn’t rather share.”

“One is good!” Melissa squeaked out, chuckling awkwardly at her brother. “I really appreciate it, Logan!”

“Mhm,” He hummed. “Well, I’ll be back a bit later to turn this off,” He threw one last glance at Shauna, smiling genuinely this time. “Have fun, you two!”

He set off in the direction Melissa and Shauna had come from, humming to a song while swaying his hips slightly. Shauna could really see the family resemblance between him and his sister in that moment, smiling softly to herself.

“Ever been snow tubing?” Melissa regained her attention, holding the tube up. “They used to have it here, but they’re turning this hill into the new bunny slope next year, so…”

“I can’t say I have ever been snow tubing before,” Shauna responded, stepping closer to Melissa as she spoke. She eyed the singular tube for a moment before continuing. “Are you gonna sit in my lap?”

Shauna relished watching the way the tips of Melissa’s ears turned red, nearly matching the burgundy hoodie she was currently wearing. Her tendency to blush was quickly becoming one of Shauna’s favorite things about her. Especially when she was the reason for it.

“Or you can sit on mine,” Melissa mumbled, looking down at the ground shyly for a moment before glancing back up. She bit her lip for a second, and Shauna couldn’t help the way her eyes tracked the movement. “Should we head up?”

Shauna nodded, following Melissa over to the magic carpet lift. She cursed the way Melissa was currently holding the tube with both arms, wanting nothing more than to slide a hand into hers. It’d probably be a bit better without gloves, but Shauna was beginning to grow a bit antsy.

Even if tonight led to absolutely nothing, Shauna thought they should probably do something before she spent the night with Melissa. Even if that something was holding hands like middle schoolers.

She didn’t think Melissa was planning on them just having a stereotypical sleepover where they ate junk food and binge-watched scary movies, but the lack of, well, anything was starting to make her second-guess if they were on the same page.

Even if Melissa had already basically admitted to liking her, and they were all over each other in the hot tub last night.

She literally held her arm! Melissa’s hand was on her bare thigh. That had to count for something!

If Melissa had actually just planned on the two of them hanging out with Snowball all night, Shauna might actually strangle her to death.

Melissa, not the cat.

Well…

As they reached the top of the belt, Melissa hopped off, excitedly bouncing over to the top of the hill. Shauna followed closely behind, forcing those thoughts out of her mind.

Melissa was looking at her now, eyebrows furrowed as she dropped the tube down on the ground. Then she was staring at the tube. Then back up at Shauna.

Shauna raised an eyebrow at her, and Melissa awkwardly smiled before clearing her throat. “So…did you wanna go down together, or?”

Shauna couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped her.

“Yeah, Mel,” She paused for a second, furrowing her own eyebrows. “Wait, do you?”

“Of course!” Melissa exclaimed immediately, blushing as she dropped back down from where she’d raised herself on her tiptoes out of excitement. “I mean, yeah– yeah, sure!”

She averted her eyes, and Shauna was once again reminded that this was Melissa after all. Sometimes she forgot just how awkward the girl could be, especially when she was nervous.

Shauna once watched her trip over a bench in the locker room after Nat had complimented her shoes.

Melissa dropped down into the tube, patting her lap as she finally looked back up to Shauna.

“So I’m sitting in your lap?” Shauna asked, raising her eyebrow once more. “Quite the assumption, Mel.” She grinned as Melissa once again reverted to her awkwardness, coughing slightly as she moved to stand back up. “Stay in the tube, Melissa!”

Melissa immediately let herself drop back down, blushing lightly as she raised her hands in surrender.

It was Shauna’s turn to blush as she realized she really was about to be sitting in Melissa’s lap. Melissa had her feet planted in the show, keeping the tube from moving as Shauna stepped closer, eying her soon-to-be seat for a moment.

It really did look inviting, she had to admit. While her Melissa fantasies were a new addition to Shauna’s mind, this one hadn’t quite come up yet. She barely had time to imagine it before she was getting down, trying to not smile too hard at the way Melissa’s breath caught in her throat as Shauna shimmied around to make herself more comfortable.

“Comfy?” Melissa’s question came out a bit choked, like she couldn’t quite believe what was happening.

“Very,” Shauna nodded, leaning back into Melissa’s chest.

She thought she was going to have to ask Melissa to hold onto her, which was extremely embarrassing. Shauna was hesitant to admit she was a bit nervous, and she also didn’t want to have to beg Melissa to wrap her arms around her.

Luckily, Melissa’s brain seemed to finally be rewired. As she began pulling them along the snow with her feet, her arms came up to wrap around Shauna’s waist, holding her close just as the tube tipped over the edge.

Shauna had her hands braced on the edge of the tube as they began to slide down, laughing along with Melissa as they raced down the snowy incline. It was a bit faster than expected, but Shauna felt a lot better with Melissa by her side.

Or below her. Or whatever.

Melissa’s arms tightened around her as they reached the flat part at the bottom of the hill, and Shauna barely had a second to brace as they slowed down, only noticing the wall of snow in front of them right before impact.

As soon as they came to a complete stop, Shauna dropped her head back, letting it rest against Melissa’s shoulder for a second. She felt Melissa’s hands flex where they rested against her stomach, leaning the side of her head against Shauna’s.

“Round two?” Melissa’s breath tickled her ear as she spoke.

Shauna nodded, letting out a happy sigh and letting herself rest against Melissa a moment longer before pulling herself up.

Melissa followed behind her, and they made their way back to the magic carpet. Shauna decided to stand a bit closer to her this time, and Melissa sent her a small smile as they started the ascent back up.

“I don’t know why they got rid of this,” Melissa said as they got higher up. “I used to love it as a kid.”

Shauna hummed. “It is pretty fun.”

“They have a place back in Jersey,” Melissa rocked back on her feet a bit as she spoke. Shauna sent her a nervous look, not wanting the girl to fall off and roll back down the hill. “We could go sometime?”

“Yeah?”

“Mhm,” Melissa nodded. “I figured since you’re a pro and all now, we might need to hit the slopes back home anyway.”

“Do we?” Shauna tilted her head, a teasing grin on her face as they reached the top and stepped off.

“Totally,” Melissa nodded. She pursed her lips for a moment, like she was suddenly hit with a second thought, before continuing. “Uhm, if you don’t wanna go once we get back, that’s cool. I don’t want to assume we would go just because we, like, hung out this week or whatever.”

Melissa was nervously chewing on her bottom lip as she finished, and before Shauna knew what she was doing, she reached out, her gloved hand coming up to Melissa’s chin. She pulled down, causing Melissa to release her lip, eyes wide.

Shauna could feel the heat through her glove and cleared her throat before dropping her hand back down.

“Sorry, just–”

“Yeah, it’s a-a bad habit,” Melissa nodded knowingly, though her voice shook slightly.

Shauna smiled gently and was about to suggest they go down again, until she realized she hadn’t answered Melissa’s original question.

“I’d love to go once we get back,” She replied. “I thought I made it obvious I want to keep hanging out.”

“Yeah,” Melissa nodded. “Yeah, I guess so, but…I never really know?” Melissa’s voice got slightly higher, embarrassment flashing across her features.

“I am spending the night. You think I have slumber parties with just anyone?” Shauna teased, trying to bring a bit of lightness back to their current conversation.

“I don’t know,” Melissa shrugged, shifting tone along with Shauna. “Snowball is a real party animal. I thought it could just be for her.”

“Shit, you caught me,” Shauna sighed, throwing her head back as Melissa barked out a laugh. “Let’s go again, yeah?”

Melissa quickly agreed, setting them back up at the top and dropping down into the tube once more. She shuffled around slightly before patting her lap excitedly. Shauna rolled her eyes fondly before getting back into her lap.

They continued to tube down the hill, Shauna relaxing against Melissa more and more each time. Every time they went back up, Shauna would stand a bit closer, just waiting for the girl to take a hint.

Finally, when Shauna thought all hope was lost and she really was about to have a spa night with that damn cat, Melissa placed the tube down as they rode up the hill. Shauna was standing closer than she had all afternoon, their sides pressed together as they rode up.

Melissa, while avoiding eye contact at all costs, slowly wrapped her arm around Shauna’s waist. Shauna leaned into the hold immediately, sighing contentedly as Melissa pulled her in closer.

“I was starting to think I imagined last night,” Shauna said, somewhat jokingly as Melissa’s lips pressed against the side of her head.

“I was kinda, sorta, a little high last night,” Melissa mumbled into her hair. Shauna went to pull back, but Melissa kept her hand firm, preventing her from doing so. “I did say you make me nervous.”

“You’re ridiculous,” Shauna sighed, a soft smile creeping onto her face. “And I knew you had weed here!”

“It is Colorado…”

As they approached the top of the hill, Melissa let go, and Shauna instantly mourned the feeling of being so close to her. She watched as Melissa once again set the tube up, and a purely selfish idea formed in her head.

“Hey, Mel,” Shauna called out, watching the way Melissa’s head perked up, instantly looking up at her. “Maybe you can ride on me this time.”

The words didn’t immediately process in Shauna’s head. Not until she saw Melissa turn bright red, jaw dropping as she attempted to sputter out some kind of response.

Shauna cursed under her breath. All those stupid fantasies she’d been having were seriously starting to fuck with her mind.

“I meant– I meant in my lap. As in I hold you,” Shauna quickly got out. “Get your mind out of the gutter!”

The hypocrisy was not lost on her at all, but Melissa didn’t need to know that.

“Right,” Melissa choked out, jerkily nodding her head. “Of course, yeah!”

She seemed not to be able to form any kind of rebuttal, agreeing with ease. Shauna figured whatever worked was fine with her.

Shauna stepped around her, dropping down into the tube and planting her feet firmly in the snow as she’d watched Melissa do multiple times already. Melissa stared blankly for a second, and Shauna couldn’t help but snort, patting her lap and watching as Melissa rapidly blinked, coming back to herself.

Melissa nearly tripped over her own feet as she scrambled to sit down in Shauna’s lap, causing a slight ‘hmph’ to escape Shauna as she dropped down against her.

“Sorry,” Melissa mumbled, wriggling around as Shauna carefully wrapped her arms around her.

“Stay still,” Shauna laughed, pulling Melissa back against her. Melissa instantly went stiff. “Okay, well, you can relax.”

“Right, right, yeah,” Melissa nodded, finally relaxing her muscles as Shauna tucked her chin over her shoulder.

Once she was settled in Shauna’s lap, Shauna dragged them forward with her feet. As much as she wanted to wrap her arms tight around Melissa, she was still cautious of that giant bruise she had been the cause of yesterday, letting her arms rest loosely around Melissa’s stomach as they began to sail down.

It was just as fun as before, and Shauna had the passing thought she could definitely get used to this position. The only problem was once they reached the bottom, and Shauna suddenly understood why maybe it was best Melissa had been the one holding onto her.

They slid into the wall with a bit of speed, which had happened a few times. Except this time, the person on top barely had anything holding her down, and as soon as they crashed into it, Melissa went flying out of Shauna’s lap.

She landed face down in the snow, groaning as Shauna scrambled to get out of the tube, awkwardly pushing herself up.

“Fuck, fuck,” Shauna muttered, rushing over to Melissa’s side.

She couldn’t believe she was once again the reason Melissa was suffering some sort of snow-related crash and injury. Maybe they really shouldn’t go to any resorts once they get back home. Melissa would probably be a lot less injured without her.

Shauna dropped to her knees, hand instantly landing on Melissa’s shoulder as she tried to turn her over. Melissa fought back, determined to keep her face in the snow, causing Shauna to frown.

“Mel?”

“Just leave me,” Melissa mumbled into the snow. Shauna rolled her eyes, pulling on her shoulder again, and this time Melissa rolled over. “I can’t believe this happened again. It’s so fucking embarrassing.”

“Embarrassing?” Shauna’s eyes widened as she leaned down, trying to check Melissa over for any injuries. “No, it isn’t. I’m so sorry— it keeps happening, and it keeps being my fault!”

Melissa finally looked up at her, loose hairs spilling out from under her beanie, plastered to her forehead by snow. Shauna removed her glove without much thought, brushing the hair away.

Melissa’s eyes tracked the movement, eyes softening as Shauna looked back into them. “It’s okay,” Melissa smiled. “Didn’t even hurt.”

“You’re a shit liar,” Shauna huffed, though she had a smile of her own.

“Nuh uh,” Melissa insisted.

Shauna could feel Melissa’s hands moving, but before she even got a chance to question or look at what she was doing, a warm palm was coming up to press against her cheek. She leaned into it instantly.

“You’re really pretty,” Melissa said quietly, thumb running along Shauna’s cheek as she did so.

Shauna blushed, trying to look away, but Melissa held her still.

“So are you,” She settled for instead.

Melissa beamed for a second, eyes brightening before flicking down to Shauna’s lips. It was brief, but Shauna caught her. She couldn’t help but let her eyes do the same.

That was apparently all it took. Melissa surged up, taking Shauna’s breath away as their lips finally connected. Her hand was sliding under Melissa’s beanie, tangling in the hair there as Melissa dragged her down.

Shauna went willingly, her free hand bracing in the snow beside Melissa’s face. She inhaled sharply as Melissa deepened the kiss for a second, feeling her hand come up to rest on her hip.

Shauna’s teeth grazed Melissa’s bottom lip, relishing in the way the other girl released a sound against her in response.

The kiss lasted a few more seconds before Shauna pulled away, pecking Melissa’s lips gently before resting her forehead against hers, breath mingling as they both attempted to catch it.

Melissa’s wide smile no doubt was mirroring Shauna’s own, and Shauna felt her heart flutter as Melissa nudged their noses together gently.

“Whoa,” Melissa whispered. “I wanted to do that for so long…”

Shauna huffed out a laugh, leaning down to press another kiss against Melissa’s lips instead of responding.

Truthfully, she couldn’t imagine Melissa had actually wanted to do that for so long. Shauna wasn’t used to being desired, at least not by anyone she would want. She considered asking Melissa just how long, but she realized she didn’t really care.

She didn’t want to know how long she’d wasted time not paying Melissa any mind. She felt like an idiot, but all that mattered now was that she had finally realized what had been right in front of her this whole time.

Shauna had to pull back when her thoughts caused a huge grin to form on her face. Melissa sent her a questioning look, and Shauna shook her head.

“I’m just happy,” She replied softly.

“Cool,” Melissa nodded dumbly, a shy smile on her face. “Yeah, me too.”

Shauna went to lean back down when all of a sudden a loud voice called out from a few feet away.

“You two better stay off of my bed tonight!”

Both girls turned their heads quickly to see Logan standing by the control system, turning off the magic carpet.

Shauna instantly hid her face in Melissa’s neck, completely mortified to be caught by the girl’s brother in such a compromising position. Melissa simply groaned, moving her hand to cup the back of Shauna’s head.

“Fuck off, Logan!” She called back. Shauna didn’t dare lift her head as she heard footsteps growing closer, accompanied by faint laughter. “If you don’t leave us alone, I'm dying Snowball pink.”

“You wouldn’t!” Logan gasped.

“Try me,” Melissa responded in a low tone.

Shauna ignored the feeling that swooped in her stomach at the sound. Now was really not the time for that.

“Alright, I’m leaving,” Logan surrendered. “You two enjoy yourselves!”

Once Shauna could no longer hear his footsteps, she lifted her face back up, cringing slightly as she looked back down at Melissa.

“Don’t worry,” Melissa reassured her. “He was just being annoying.”

Shauna tried to find a response, but ended up coming up blank. She wasn’t really sure how to relay how mortified she was to be seen by Melissa’s brother while nearly straddling her. That certainly couldn’t be a good ‘meet the family’ look, even if she had already met him.

She was clearly taking too long to respond, and her eyes were probably showing a million different things. Whatever it was, Shauna was grateful when Melissa spoke back up again.

“Wanna head back?” She seemed a bit hesitant now, worried her brother had scared Shauna away, no doubt. “If you, uhm–”

“No!” Shauna cut her off. “No, sorry, I just–” She paused, trying to decide how to respond. “Heading back sounds good. Wanna grab some dinner?”

Melissa shook her head, grinning. “No need, I’m cooking.”

“I’m scared.”

“But you loved the buffalo dip?” Melissa tilted her head.

Shauna smiled down at her. “You got me there.”

Not wanting to bother with going back to Jackie’s place, Shauna borrowed some clothes from Melissa after arriving back at Logan’s apartment. That’s how she found herself in a pair of sweatpants and a Scooby-Doo t-shirt, sitting in the kitchen as Melissa made them some sort of pasta dish.

“Can you take the garlic bread out of the oven?” Melissa asked as she dropped chicken into the sauce, narrowly avoiding staining her grey Wiskayok High t-shirt. “Pasta is almost ready!”

“Mhm,” Shauna hummed, leaning off to the side to press a quick kiss to Melissa’s cheek before hopping off the counter.

She paused for a moment afterwards, not sure what had possessed her to do that. Then she glanced back to where Melissa was swaying her hips slightly, singing along to the music in the background as she stirred the sauce, a dorky smile on her face as the tips of her ears turned bright red.

Okay, yeah. Shauna was definitely down bad for that loser, and she didn’t regret a thing. She couldn’t be held accountable for uncontrollably kissing that face.

True to her word, Melissa was plating up the food in no time. They sat around the small table in the kitchen, just enjoying each other’s company as they ate the dinner Melissa had made them.

“Okay,” Shauna started, halfway through her pasta. “I didn’t know you could cook this well.”

Melissa shook her head bashfully. “It’s just pasta…”

“Like, the best pasta ever!” Shauna insisted, emphasizing her point by taking another huge bite.

“I cook a lot at home,” Melissa began to explain. “I think it’s fun.”

Shauna hoped there was a lot more of this to come. If Melissa really cooked like this all the time, she would be there at any possible chance.

All too soon to tell Melissa, but the thought was there. She always wanted a girlfriend who could cook. Shauna herself was a mess in the kitchen. She barely trusted herself to take the garlic bread out of the oven.

As they continued eating, they talked about anything and everything. Their favorite things to do, their favorite fast food spot, who on the team they think might actually play in college.

Shauna’s money was definitely on Melissa.

Once their plates were empty, and they finished cleaning up the kitchen together, the two girls settled down on the couch. Shauna instantly found herself leaning into Melissa’s side, fingers absentmindedly toying with the strings of Melissa’s pajama pants as Melissa flicked through the TV.

She paused on a random channel, some movie apparently catching her eye. Shauna listened to her ramble for a second, head tilted up to watch Melissa explain why she thought whatever movie that was on was complete shit.

Shauna didn’t bother looking at what she was talking about. She had other ideas— ones she quickly set into motion when Melissa paused her ramble, tilting her head down to see if Shauna was listening.

Shauna crashed their lips together, all the gentleness from the first kiss gone. Melissa moaned into Shauna’s mouth, hands pulling on her hips and encouraging Shauna into her lap. Shauna swung a leg over quickly, settling down as her hands pulled on Melissa’s face, bringing her in closer.

Melissa broke away first, hands roaming Shauna’s sides as she began to trail kisses along her jawline, moving down toward her neck. Shauna threw her head back as Melissa quickly found a sensitive spot, nipping at it gently.

“God, Mel,” Shauna managed to get out. “Fuck, I can’t believe I’m in a Scooby-Doo shirt right now.”

Melissa pulled back, lips already swollen as she let a hand drift under Shauna’s shirt, running along the bare skin of her back. Shauna felt like she was on fire, her hips already grinding forward before she could stop herself.

“I don’t know,” Melissa teased, a hand coming down to cup Shauna’s ass. Shauna bit her lip slightly, unsure where this Melissa had come from, though she certainly wasn’t complaining.  “Scooby-Doo is kinda sexy.”

“Shut the fuck up,” Shauna mumbled, hand grabbing the back of Melissa’s neck to drag her back into a kiss.

Shauna let her hand snake down between them, pulling up the hem of Melissa’s shirt just enough to expose one of the things that started this all. Her fingers ran along Melissa’s stomach, trailing through the coarse blonde hair that led down to the waistband of her pants.

She felt Melissa’s hand moving back up, grabbing onto the hem of her t-shirt. Shauna exhaled sharply through her nose, preparing to pull away and let Melissa remove it, when something else had them breaking apart.

Meow.

Shauna gasped, jerking away from Melissa’s lips just as Snowball jumped onto the couch. Melissa lolled her head to the side, eyes narrowing as her brother’s cat began to walk closer to them.

Shauna was making quite the impression on the Blake family, apparently.

“Wow,” Melissa snorted. “You have really bad timing, cat.”

“At least she’s cute,” Shauna mused, moving to pull herself off Melissa’s lap.

She was caught off guard when Melissa’s arms wrapped around her waist, keeping her in place as she went to look back up at Shauna.

“No way,” Melissa shook her head. “Snowball can wait until after we’re done.”

“In front of the cat, Mel?”

“Fuck no.”

Then, with a strength Shauna didn’t know she possessed, Melissa was rising to her feet. Shauna instantly wrapped her legs around Melissa’s waist, gasping as she was lifted up with her.

Melissa began making her way toward the guest bedroom. After being picked up and carried by the girl, Shauna didn’t think they could get there fast enough.

Sometime later, after clothes had been ripped off and then sluggishly put back on, Shauna found her head resting in Melissa’s lap, enjoying the way those long fingers ran through her hair as Melissa sat up against the headboard.

Melissa hadn’t bothered with anything past her boxers, and Shauna was currently enjoying the view of all the marks she had left along her chest. She knew she was sporting plenty of her own, the thought making her shiver slightly.

Shauna let her eyes drift lower, frowning at the nasty dark bruise from the day before, just below her rib cage.

Shauna sighed, lifting herself to press a soft kiss there before pulling Melissa down, hovering over her once Melissa was on her back, flat against the mattress.

“I am really sorry about that,” Shauna said quietly, fingers ghosting over the bruised skin.

“I told you it’s not your fault,” Melissa responded easily, shrugging. “So stop–” She leaned up, pressing a kiss to the corner of Shauna’s mouth. “-apologizing, okay?”

“Melissa–”

“Shauna, I’m serious.” Melissa was smiling up at her, hand moving to rest at the small of Shauna’s back, where she was also still bare. “I’m okay.” Her hand drifted a bit lower, and Shauna rolled her eyes at the cheeky little grin on Melissa’s face as she cupped her ass over her underwear. “More than okay, actually.”

“Pervert,” Shauna said fondly, dropping her head down onto the pillows beside Melissa.

They turned to face each other, and Melissa pulled Shauna in closer by her hips, noses nearly brushing. Shauna’s hand settled over her shoulder blade as they held each other in place.

“So,” Melissa started, sighing gently. “I’m leaving tomorrow.”

Shauna fought the urge to frown. Melissa had mentioned it yesterday, the fact that she’d be leaving two days before Shauna and Jackie did. While part of her wanted to childishly pout and beg Melissa to stay, it wasn’t like they weren’t both going to be in the same place again soon.

Plus, she probably should spend more time with Jackie before they go home. She wondered if she could somehow get Jeff to leave, too.

Just as Shauna began to think about how thankful she was that Melissa had taught her now to not be totally useless out on the slopes, it was almost like Melissa had read her mind.

“Since you’re a pro now, do I get my prize before I leave?”

“Oh, so you think I am a pro, then?” Shauna asked. “What makes you so sure?”

“Well, I’d say I taught you a few things,” Melissa smirked, eyes scanning Shauna’s body for a brief second. “More than a few things, actually.”

“You’re insufferable,” Shauna said, trying and failing to fight the smile off her face at Melissa’s words.

“You like it,” Melissa teased, a finger gently poking Shauna’s side.

Shauna nodded. “Yeah, I guess I do.”

“So,” Melissa started up again. “My prize?”

Before answering, Shauna leaned closer, lips brushing Melissa’s before pulling back. Melissa, having already closed her eyes, popped one back open as the feeling of Shauna’s lips leaving hers.

“You already got it,” Shauna answered, enjoying the way recognition dawned on Melissa’s face. “It’s me, duh.”

“Oh, I’m insufferable?” Melissa raised an eyebrow. “You’re very humble. Has anyone ever told you that?” She added on sarcastically. “Okay then, say I had failed. What was your prize, then?”

Shauna bit her bottom lip gently as she moved her hand up, cupping Melissa’s cheek. As she released her lip, she smiled softly, this time actually connecting their lips. It was much softer than before, but they both melted into it anyway.

When Shauna pulled away, Melissa sent her a knowing look. Shauna answered her anyway.

“I already got it.”

They spent the rest of their night enjoying each other’s company, as well as showing Snowball the attention she was so desperate for earlier in the evening. Though she wouldn’t admit it to anyone, Shauna was going to miss that little white cat.

Even if one of her socks did mysteriously go missing at some point during her stay with Melissa.

The next morning was slow, standing out on the balcony together and watching early morning riders come down the slopes. Shauna stayed pressed into Melissa’s side the whole time, soaking up every last second she got before she had to head back to Jackie’s.

When the time finally came, it was filled with a million goodbye kisses and promises of meeting up as soon as Shauna was back in New Jersey.

Shauna knew it seemed a bit ridiculous, but after spending last night with Melissa, she wanted all the time with her she could get.

Just as she was about to head out the door, Melissa stopped her, holding out an envelope.

“Here,” Melissa said, pressing it into Shauna’s hands. “Open it once you get back, okay?”

“What is it?” Shauna tilted her head.

“It’s a surprise,” Melissa shrugged before leaning in, pressing one last kiss to Shauna’s lips before they finally parted ways.

By the time Shauna had gotten back and had finally escaped the clutches of one Jackie Taylor and her nosey ways, a couple of hours had passed by. As she fell back into her bed, she felt her phone buzzing in her pocket.

Shauna took it out, smiling at the newly saved contact that popped up.

[Mel: did you read it yet?]

Shauna stared at the screen, puzzled for a second, until she remembered the letter that was still sitting in her pocket. She quickly took it out, wanting to read it before Melissa more than likely took off from the airport. There was no doubt by now she was already there.

Once it was in her hands, Shauna laughed as her eyes scanned the messily written words littering the page.

Melissa’s Buffalo Chicken Dip

1 pound shredded chicken (cooked)

8 ounces cream cheese

1 cup ranch dressing

¾ cup buffalo wing sauce

2 cups cheddar cheese

Measure parm with your heart <3

Mix all together in crock pot on high and cook that baby for an hour +

Enjoy!

Shauna took her phone back out, replying quickly.

[shauna: Wow, the secret recipe?]

[Mel: guard it with your heart! now you can make it whenever you want!]

Shauna’s fingers hovered over the keyboard a second longer before she decided on how to reply.

[shauna: I think I’d prefer if you just made it for me. Whenever I want…]

It took Melissa a few minutes to reply, and Shauna was worried she’d come on too strong. Already demanding that Melissa cook for her was certainly a bold choice. She probably already scared her away.

Before she could spiral any longer, her phone buzzed once more. Shauna quickly opened her texts, a grin nearly splitting her face as her cheeks flushed, staring at the words on her screen.

[Mel: that can be arranged <3]

Shauna couldn’t wait to get home to New Jersey.
