Chapter Text
Hi— HOLD YOUR FIRE!
I know. I know. I'm sorry.
It's been 6 years. A lot has happened.
For one: I graduated college! I also moved 500+ mi away from where I grew up and am currently working. Unfortunately, it's not really the job I hoped I'd have, but I'm (just about) getting by.
However! Despite everything life has thrown at me, I am still writing! It's just,,,, taking a lot longer than I'd hoped.
Turns out, adulting makes for a hell of an obstacle. Isn't that a shocker?
Now, what does this mean for Perception?
Well, it's not abandoned! I can reassure everyone of that. Though I may not have been posting, I've been thinking about this story constantly over the years. And in that time, I've been writing, brainstorming, tweaking, researching, and so much more.
I'm now at a point where I believe I'm ready to start again. Now, don't get me wrong, the premise of the story is still the same. Midoriya is still deaf (and Deaf! That's another key change you'll see!), Inko will adopt the Todoroki siblings, and Aizawa and Mic will be present from the beginning.
But other things are changing :)
I've grown a lot as a writer. It's honestly kind of jarring for me to go back and reread what I wrote. And there are things I understand better, both in terms of world building and in overall writing technique. I also understand a lot more about who I am as a person. I understand gender and sexuality a hell of a lot more now. And all of this will affect the new story I'm writing.
My goal now is not to please the audience. I realize now that aiming for that was the biggest reason I burnt out so hard. Rather, I write for myself now. I write for the closeted baby gay I used to be at 18. I write for the anxious, afraid, undiagnosed autistic child I was growing up.
I write now for me.
And yeah, this isn't going to appeal to a lot of readers. I get that. I'll be slow to update. I'll take in feedback, but I won't force myself to change parts of my story to make others happy. This is my story. And I'll write it however I damn well please.
So if you decide to leave, genuinely, I hope you have a good day. Thanks for reading my first version of this story and for inspiring me as a writer. I wouldn't be who I am today without fanfics, writing, and the online fandom community as a whole.
But for those of you who'll choose to stay, thank you. Thanks for giving me a second chance. And I hope you enjoy the revamped, refreshed story of Perception: Enhanced.
With much love,
Sora (Soralith)
