Chapter Text
"Dude, when are you gonna tell me why you dragged me all the way to the mall at 10:30 AM when we live like two hours away and they aren't even open?" Bart pops his 'P' with purposeful annoyance, Cassie expertly ignores him as she continues refreshing the news app on her phone.
"Just give it a second, I'm waiting for the Gotham Gazette to catch on."
"Catch onto what?" Bart raises a brow and right then Cassie's news app refreshes to the headline:
MODERN DAY ROMEO & JULIET: A VIGILANTE AND HERO FALL IN LOVE?
Bart's eyes widen and Cassie grins. She was hoping they'd have their long overdue confession in public so she could get the scoop immediately. A little gossipy of her? Maybe. Deserved since Tim woke her up at 2 AM for an overthinking crisis? Yes.
"Who fell in love?" Bart asks excitedly, practically vibrating in his seat as he leans over to read the article on her phone.
"Tim and Kon." Bart's head snaps up to look at her and she smirks. Scrolling down, thumb nail tapping on the screen, a picture of Tim and Kon kissing on a rendezvous roof is plastered to the center of the article, clear as day.
The next picture was caught right as Tim atomized the recording with an EMP. There won't be any videos circulating any time soon, but she is going to screenshot this photo. You know, for future purposes.
"Holy shit, that really is Tim and Kon… and they got caught? Hah! Can I run over and make fun of them?!" Cassie grins and turns the engine over.
"We are going to make fun of them together." Bart bounces in his seat excitedly, a massive grin plastered on his face.
"Best day ever."
Once back home, Bart barges into the main room and immediately starts barraging a cuddling Tim and Kon with kissy and cooing noises. Both back home from patrol early since there was literally nothing going on. Cassie saunters in, pulling up the article on her phone.
"You should have seen the headline for the news article written about you guys. It's freaking hilarious!" Tim narrows his eyes and Cassie passes him her phone, Kon tilts his head and reads out loud:
"Modern day Romeo & Juliet: a vigilante and hero fall in love? Oh boy…" Taking a deep breath in and forcing it out in one quick motion, they both share a knowing look with each other.
"Bart, grab my computer, please?" Saluting, he races down the hall and back, Tim's laptop in hand so he can hack the website.
"What should we tell Batman? If he knows, anyways." Kon mumble's absentmindedly, drawing circles on Tim's mid section with his fingers. Tim sighs,
"He definitely knows. He'll probably give me a lecture later about the importance of keeping hero relationships strictly professional, but I think Nightwing will back me up cause he probably knows already, too."
"Oh yeah, he and Starfire totally did make out in Tokyo that one time, huh?" Bart snickers and Tim smirks.
"Oh yes, and I heard he got an ear full for it. I'd personally like to avoid that, so I'm going to launch some damage control in order to avoid a long winded lecture for as long as possible."
"It is quite funny that the leader who is always lecturing us about confidentiality slips up like this, though." Cassie hums, not teasingly, in fact, very lightheartedly. Tim chuckles, a dry, clipped sound escaping him and stretches once the article is deleted as well as the back up files. Now just letting his computer run key words for any articles involving both Red Robin and Superboy so that they all self-destruct without Tim needing to pay attention.
Instead, he can divert his attention to his freshly promoted boyfriend instead. Cassie, with as much foresight as ever to the teams shenanigans, grabs both of them by the scruff and lifts them over the couch.
"Ah, ah, ah. No couple related activities until we all go to B&B for overpriced coffee and a deep dive into what lead up to your impromptu confession."
Tim and Kon give each other a look that can only mean that the story is good. Bart seems to notice it as well, running back to Tim's room to snatch his wallet before plugging his laptop in. No excuses to avoid the excursion now.
"Let's go, let's go, let's go!" Bart races out the garage door, already pacing in the driveway.
Both Tim and Kon groan at being dragged away from the comfort of the couch, and Cassie can only grin. Snuggled side to side together for a brief moment, Kon races off to go mess with Bart and Tim puts a hand on Cassie's shoulder once they get to the door.
Pausing, she turns to look at him with a light tilt of her head. He breathes a resigned sigh, patting her shoulder.
"You were right, by the way." She raises a brow.
"About what?" Tim blushes, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"About Kon just wanting me to think he's cool." Cassie pauses for a moment before a cheeky grin spreads across her face.
"That's not all there is to it, is there? Kon was looking especially handsy when me and Bart walked in." Tim sputters, a deep red taking over the already light pink of his face and searing into his neck. Pulling up the hoodie of his jacket to hide in, he pushes past the entryway and steps outside.
"Just for that I'm not gonna tell you—I'll drive!" He shouts, twirling the keys in his hands. Cassie pats herself down and scoffs, how'd he sneak them off her?
"Yay! Does that mean we're doing drive through?" Bart buzzes excitedly, running circles around Tim as he lazily opens the driver's side door. Kon slips into the passanger seat beside him, smiling as he eases into the car.
"We can dine in." Tim hums, turning the engine while Bart and Cassie situate themselves in the back.
"Aw yes! I love their weird fancy seats!" Bart buckles in, everyone else doing the same at a pace all too slow for the poor speedster vibrating impatiently in his seat.
"The seats aren't weird, you just keep sitting on the decorative ones." Bart clicks his tongue and shakes his head.
"What's the point of having fancy seats if no one's allowed to rest their butt on them?" Cassie snorts and Kon grins.
"Pretty sure the point is freedom of expression." Kon finally says, inserting himself uncharacteristically late into the conversation. Admittedly distracted by his brand new boyfriend driving next to him.
"Expression of what exactly? Art? A deeply personal childhood trauma? Everyone's butt? Also—since when do you call shotgun?" Bart points, leaning over the shoulder of his seat to get all up in his business.
"Since our team leader became my boyfriend. Up top!" Bart can't resist a good high five, Cassie just laughs.
Out of the corner of her eye she can see Tim laughing, too.
