Chapter Text
For the past week all Hazel could think about was Red; and how she had broken her heart. The thought pained Hazel deeply, and she knew she had to do something about it. She grabbed her phone, typing up a message.
@justred

Though the text was read almost instantly, she had very little hope of Red actually showing up. Still, she got out of bed. Hazel sat down at her vanity; she always did her makeup before her hair.

Red slipped her black boots on, tugging on them until they felt comfortable. She checked her makeup one last time before exiting the dorm.
The walk there would have been soothing if Red hadn’t started spiraling. She was putting herself in a position that could be compromising. Hazel had never shown any previous signs that would incriminate her of being interested in Chloe, not to Red’s knowledge at least.
She pulled on the door, spotting the brunette in a corner booth. On the table, two cups of coffee occupied the space. She stood still for a second, unsure of what to do next: part of her just wanted to leave. Hazel saw her and waved shyly, which was out of character for the girl. She wasn’t the nervous type.
Red approached the table, her mind racing. She sat across from Hazel, nervously eyeing the coffee. “It’s your favorite,” Hazel said in a whisper. Red looked up at her, her stomach turning.
“What did you want to talk about, Hazel?” Red said sharply.
“What you heard, in the locker rooms, it wasn’t what it seemed, Red. Chloe, she-” Hazel sighed in frustration.
“I’m not involved with Chloe; I was trying to get her to lighten up on my drills at practice, that’s all.” Red stared at Hazel, trying to decipher the difference between a truth and a lie in her voice. Hazel leaned back, sighing in preparation to be torn into.
“I’ll give you one more chance.”
Hazel froze; her thoughts, once all over the place, now sounded like radiostatic. There was a dumb smile on her face that made Red’s stomach feel warm.
“Are we taking it slow?”
Red shook her head. If she was doing this, she wanted to be all in. If she got hurt, it was her own fault. This time, she would suck up her feelings and carry them with her rather than letting them spill out.
-
It had been a week into Hazel and Red dating, and Red still wasn’t completely sure if she could trust Hazel. She did know, though, that Hazel was a good girlfriend. The two were currently on their way to lunch.
Hazel sat in front of Max, the Smees beside him. Felix sat beside Red. They hadn’t yet told the crew they were dating, but Hazel didn’t act any differently. She freely flirted and was overly touchy. Often, she would leave her hand resting on Red’s thigh.
“Hey, Red.”
Red froze at the sound of that voice, the voice that once brought her so much comfort.
“Back off my girl, Bluey.” Hazel practically spat, swiftly standing up. In the blink of an eye, Max, both Smees, and Felix were behind Hazel. Red almost laughed at their formity.
“Your girl? She was mine first Hazel.”
“You had your chance.”
Chloe shoved Hazel, to which Hazel threw a right hook. Red stood up, quickly putting herself between the two girls. Uma quickly appeared, separating both girls with her crew.
“Fuck,” Red winced, covering her eye. Hazel got out of the man’s grip, quickly making her way to Red’s side.
“You fucking dunce! You hit Red.” Hazel yelled in annoyance before she was swiftly taken away by one of the security guards.
“Follow along, Red. We’ll get you some ice.” Uma stated, heading towards her office.

The talk in the office was long and uncomfortable, and Red had to sit through the whole thing with ice on her face. Once she was able to leave, she and Hazel headed back to Hazel’s dorm to avoid being questioned by Pink, even though she’d probably heard about it already.
“I’m proud of you; you stood up to her.” Hazel murmured, pulling Red into a gentle kiss. Red sighed, allowing her body to fully relax for the first time in months. Maybe trusting Hazel wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
