Chapter Text

Rodimus could have sworn that he felt the entire planet rotate beneath him as he slowly came online.

His processor had played tricks on him; shown him unfamiliar faceplates and a planet of rubble rebuilding itself. There had been a ship made of flames gliding through star systems no map had charted.

The dream, for that is what it must've been, made him feel a strange kind of sadness.

Even as he activated his optics he was sure that he must still be dreaming.

Above him there were two blurry figures sitting side by side, almost leaning fully on each other. One of them moved closer to him, coming into focus. Megatron's piercing red optics almost seemed less intense in color as he looked down on him.

“Rodimus,” a gentle claw brushed over his cheek, “ you gave us quite a scare.” There was a pleased rumble beneath the words as his carrier spoke, which made his spark slow its racing in his chassis.

“What happened?” He croaked, blinking sluggishly as he tried to focus on the bot who was obscured by Megatron's large frame.

His carrier let go of his faceplate, shifting back a bit. “You went into stasis after your system forcefully shut itself down. Your processor was overwhelmed and needed some time to get itself back in order.”

Rodimus scowled. He didn't remember going into stasis but he supposed that it was the only logical reason for him still being in the med bay. But what had caused the shutdown? Not the matrix, that had gone over smoothly, all things considered.

No, there had been something else. Someone else. Bright blue optics focused on him with nothing but apprehension.

The same blue optics looking down on him now from beside his carrier. But instead of apprehension they now had worry in them. “Oh!” He gasped, immediately trying to push himself up from the berth to be seated. “My Prime!”

“None of that.” Megatron pushed him back down with little effort. “Ratchet will have our helms if you manage to hurt yourself while he's with his other patients.”

Looking past his carrier he could see Optimus nodding along hesitantly. The image of the both of them side by side was stranger than he had imagined. Also, who's bright idea was it to leave them alone? “Where is everyone else?” Rodimus asked, still looking at his sire.

“Major Kup has gone to get your brother.” He said, stumbling over the words. “They will be pleased to see you online again.” Not caring for his sire's discomfort, Megatron nudged him right in the gap of his midriff's plating. “Ow! Oh, uhm, I am also glad to see you awake once more.”

“Right…” Rodimus furrowed his optical ridge in confusion. “You two have talked?”

“There was little else to do while waiting for you to get better.” His carrier said, as if that explained anything. Optimus let out a small chuckle at that. “Three solar cycles is a lot of time, but I suspect we still have much more to talk about.”

“I was out for three days?!” This time he managed to scramble up. No wonder he felt so disoriented.

“Please stay lying down.” His sire said, gently leaning over to pull his blanked back up to his chassis from where it had slipped down to.

“But- I- You! What?” He stuttered as his pauldrons gave out and he fell back down onto the berth. “Why are you so worried about me?” The words came out as if he were a scolded sparkling.

Optimus smiled at the question and turned his helm to the side. “Megatron told me of our relation to each other. I cannot help but worry for you.” He looked so very young as he spoke, like he too was out of his depth.

Rodimus had to admit that he often forgot that almost every Autobot, with only a servo full of exceptions, had been younglings still when they overthrew Sentinel Prime. Optimus and Megatron themselves had just received their last upgrades, which were given out faster back then than they were now.

Pits, even the medics like Ratchet and Ambulon hadn't finished their growth until well after Rodimus had already emerged.

Had things gone different they would have probably gone to the same classes as him.

So it really was no surprise at all that his sire was a little lost at suddenly having a creation. Carrier, of course, was confused too, but that was probably the shock from having his dead sparkling come back to life.

“Still, I am sorry for troubling you. Both of you.” He muttered, once again trying to pick at the protoform around his claws. Megatron saw what he was doing and grabbed his servo firmly, stopping him from making them bleed again.

“That is your job though, isn't it? To worry your creators?” His sire smiled at him, genuinely happy to admit their connection out loud. “And you worrying us has given us the opportunity to, well, talk things out.”

He perked up at that, shifting his gaze between the two of them.

“And what does that mean, exactly?” Rodimus raised his brow ridge. “Because I honestly thought that after the whole thing with the Matrix you two would never talk to each other again.”

“As if that's the worst thing we've ever done to each other.” Megatron huffed, rolling his optics. He was tense, but relaxed as Optimus touched his shoulder between the thorns that still protruded from there.

Rodimus's creators shared a long look and he wanted to gag. Great, he had never known why his peers hated to see their creators together, but now he understood. They were torturing him while he was sick. How cruel!

“We have both wronged each other. Once, we had wanted the same thing for cybertron, but our lack of patience for one another caused this war to drag on for longer than needed.” His sire spoke solemnly. “And now we truly have a reason to try to work together again. We can't promise you that we'll get along, but we will try to be civil.”

As if. Rodimus knew that Megatron still loved Optimus and from the looks of it Optimus felt the same. But he suspected that the both of them were not emotionally intelligent enough to see the very obvious affection they held for each other.

Silence fell over them for a moment.

Rodimus felt coolant spill from his optics, leaving large streaks on his faceplate. He was about to speak again, struggling to find the right words, when someone burst into the room.

“Roddy!” Springer shouted gleefully. The younger bot practically launched himself at him, hugging him tightly while leaning on the med berth. Over his brother's shoulder he saw Kup walk in and he smiled at his mentor.

Oh, he was about to get the biggest lecture of his life, but it had been worth it.

Notes:

Megatron and Optimus are idiots that can't communicate for shit.

Sorry for not responding to the comments on the last chapter! I changed my Antidepressants and that's been making me kinda loopy, but at least I wanna continue on living, so that's a plus!

Not much more to go, but we will have some peace talks next chapter and mayhaps there will be another deadlock appearance.♡
