Chapter Text
“Jay! The building is collapsing!” Lloyd’s shout went through comms.
Nya looked around for any sight of Jay.
“Guys, I don’t see him!” She shouted.
A sudden shout and sob from the crowd behind made her turn around.
“My baby!” A woman, who looked no older than 30, shouted, reaching her arms out towards the building.
Nya looked to where the woman’s gaze was locked.
A small girl had run out of the building, wearing Jay’s blue ninja mask.
The girl ran directly to her mother.
“Mommy! The blue ninja saved me!” She exclaimed, twirling around as if she wasn’t just stuck in a burning building.
The woman’s gaze landed back on the building.
“He’s still in there!”
Nya gasped at a cracking noise from behind.
“Make way, it’s collapsing!” She heard Lloyd shout.
Everyone near the building ran to get away.
“Jay’s still in there!” She screamed whilst running.
And then the building collapsed.
All Nya could see was dust.
Dust and smoke.
“JAY!” She shouted.
When the dust finally cleared, she ran back to where the building once stood.
Jay was still in there. And he was going to die.
And it would be her fault. Because she didn’t stop him.
But the little girl would have died.
She was at war with herself, deciding whether it was her fault or Jay’s.
Nya ripped through the rubble, grunting as she grabbed a heavy piece.
“No, no, no!” She sobbed, sifting through piece after piece.
She let out a heart-broken scream.
Her yin was dead.
Jay Walker was dead.
She threw a brick to the side, wiping at the sweat and tears on her face.
“Please, Jay…” She whimpered.
Footsteps from behind made her look up.
“Nya…” It was Kai. Of course it was.
Nya looked away.
“Nya, he’s gone.”
And then Nya did something Kai had never seen before.
She screamed at him.
“FUCK YOU, KAI!” She threw a stone by his foot, ignoring the way he yelped.
“Nya, calm down-”
“CALM DOWN?! MY YIN IS DEAD OR HE’S DYING AND HE'S ALL ALONE!” Nya wiped at the snot under her nose. “If you think that I’m going to abandon that hope that he’s alive, you’re wrong.”
Kai stepped back.
“Nya…” Lloyd’s voice piped up from nearby.
How long had he been standing there?
“I get it. I… did the same thing when Harumi died.”
Nya pursed her lips. She still hated that woman.
“But Nya, we have to move on. I know it’s hard-”
“Lloyd, he was my yin.” Nya interrupted. “He was the one person who actually made me feel human when I first joined the ninja team.”
Lloyd looked down at his feet.
Nya turned away, continuing to dig through the rubble.
No matter what anyone said, she would keep digging until-
A blue sleeve.
There, right where Nya was digging, was Jay.
She kept throwing rubble.
“Guys- I found him!” She exclaimed, tugging a large piece of rubble off of her yin.
Multiple what’s and how’s arose behind her.
“Shut the fuck up and start digging!” She shouted, pulling Cole, who had come to watch her only five minutes before, towards the rubble.
And that’s what they did.
It took about five minutes, but they finally pulled Jay from the building's remains.
“Zane, is he…?” Nya couldn’t bear to finish the sentence, instead clutching at her yin desperately.
Zane’s eyes had slightly widened.
“He’s… somehow alive.” He spoke in disbelief.
Nya gasped.
“Wait, you’re… you’re being serious?”
Zane nodded.
“I would not lie to you about this.”
Nya shot up, holding her limp yin in her arms.
“We need the paramedics, right now.”
