"He silently, selfishly, begs for his family to not hate him after all this. To not leave. He doesn’t want them to go. He can’t handle being alone again. The years after the Merge, despite letters from Kai, solidified that in his mind. He needs his family.
A childish part of him wishes Kai would find him on the roof. He wants his big brother to tell him that he won’t leave, that he’ll be here with Lloyd to sort things out and fix the broken realms. That he won’t be alone again.
Ironic, he thinks dryly, that he’s so afraid of being alone but he’s sitting outside specifically to hide."

“This is so stupid,” Lloyd mumbled, sitting down on the bathtub rim. He had a dry, clean rag in his hand. Kai proceeded to watch in mortification as the child of his greatest enemy wrenched a blade from out of his shoulder, pressing the rag to the wound. Lloyd dug around in a box and pulled out a needle, a lighter, and some thread. Kai proceeded to lose his grip on the wall in surprise, falling onto the open door with a very Ninja yelp.
Lloyd stared at him with blood-soaked hands; Kai stared at him with a mortified scowl. The front door opened with a “Lloyd! I’m home!”
Kai and Lloyd echoed the same word:
“Fuck.”___--___

Summary
Kai has always tried to be the big brother that Lloyd deserves. Ever since the Green Ninja lost his father, the Fire Ninja has tried to be there for him, to look out for him, and to do everything in his power to protect him no matter the cost. After all these years, he has never once wavered from this strong sense of purpose, which burns brightly like the fire within him. Never once had he faltered, never once had he hesitated to do or give up anything if it meant ensuring his youngest brother’s safety… except one time. For weeks, that one inexcusable moment of weakness and selfish want has haunted his dreams and tortured him in his waking moments. Never has he been able to forgive himself nor does he feel he ever will be. However, he may find that, after all this time, it was never himself from whom he needed to receive forgiveness. Only once he realizes this will Kai finally be able to find healing from the scars he’s inflicted upon himself and rekindle his old fire… and his friendship.

In a childish, naïve kind of way, Kai had thought getting home would fix it. Would fix him, whatever pieces are left of the person he used to see in the mirror that he managed to drag out of that place.
Looking in the dusty monastery mirror his first night home, still cracked from where Cole had fallen over after laughing too hard at Jay’s terrible haircut, hollow eyes and gaunt skin and a stranger staring back at him—
Maybe, Kai’s forced to realize, it isn’t that easy.
Kai's first week back home, ft. Lloyd's attempts to play older sibling for once.

Summary
The tears didn’t fall. The building sob didn’t echo through his room. The awful chaotic mess of invisible feelings pressed against him from the inside out but it was almost as though he didn’t know how to set it free anymore. So he tried to escape them instead.
He pushed them as far as he could into the deepest recesses of his mind, deeper even than the void they’d collected and risen from, and ran in the other direction.
Lloyd dies, survives, and moves on with his life. And then it all comes crashing down on him.
