Summary
After the vagabond Sonic gets into legal trouble with Clean Sweep Co., he's hired to be a janitor (blackmailed into being a spy) for Spagonia University, specifically the wing that deals with the merfolk. Despite their violent nature, Sonic starts developing a bond with the sea creatures, particularly Nine, the one who looks like the brother Sonic lost. Even stranger than that, he's also forging relationships with the workers at the university and the people connected to them.
But the truth of who he is will come out eventually, and the fallout might be impossible to handle if he doesn't figure out Clutch wants in all of this.
Or, Sonic teaches merfolk how to belong while also learning this lesson and how to healthily deal with his own grief

Unfortunately, what began as something exciting soon turns awful. Feeling distraught, he stumbles on an escape from reality and takes it, leaving the races and his hopes behind.
...but getting trapped in a world where rain boils was not the getaway he was looking for. Forced to adapt, slowly, Nine finds a place in this world, and something starts to change.
Maybe because, unknowingly, he's also sparked the start of disaster.
OR: Nine joins Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, finds out a painful truth, and ends up in the Boiling Isles. Sonic and his friends find out too late and try to rescue him, while they all face dangers and secrets. And something more powerful than originally intended starts to rise...

New Yoke City was never meant to be enjoyed by its citizens. The Chaos council ensured their misery at every turn, and leaving was never an option.
Sonic hadn't been here long, not that he had a watch to be able to tell, but he had been here long enough to realise that this had once been Green Hill, his beloved home since the beginning of time, almost. He wasn't quite sure how things led up to this, which may have been for the better.. everything after he charged into that Paradox Prism was a blur- almost like he had jumped through time itself. He had no clue how Eggman actually won- i mean, come on, that Egghead has lost to him dozens of times! Was that shiny rock really that powerful?
Sonic finds Nine, the New Yoke version of Tails, and the agony this town brings is unveiled the more they get to know eachother.

He barely escapes with his life due to the help of Sonic the Hedehog, but his day isnt saved yet and the hardest part is yet to come. Recovery.
Recovery surrounded by strangers. Recovery in a strange word, fundementally diffrent from anything he's used to.
When he's struck with illness, Nine is less than enthusiastic about the prospect of needing help, or letting himself be weak.

There was an attempt to logic his way out, convince himself that he was simply overreacting and attempting to analyze completely made up shit.
More likely then not, Cosmo thought his fumbling was cute, not his appearance, duh.
It was the loss of his cool and collected facade that was expected of him, and all under a stupid mistake a presumed genius should not have made, which was ironic. Hence, the name calling.But as sound as that logic might've been, it simply didn't feel right.
