Chapter Text
Nom loved nothing more than exploring. Flying faster than the wind, to find new places no other fairies ever seen before. And then map them out for the others to see, that was his self-appointed job before spring came after all.
On this fine day, Nom was currently mapping out a big winter biome about 10 minutes out from their tree, at least it was 10 minutes out for him, the others would definitely take longer. A lot longer. And this snow-covered area was huge, definitely the biggest one he'd seen so far.
Nom had just finished mapping out the snow-covered birch forest he was in when he spotted a large frozen-over lake, which was awesome. So he flew up one of the birch trees finding a good place to perch on one of its branches as he started drawing the lake onto the map he was currently holding.
While studying the lake's form to make his map as accurate as possible, Nom noticed something was moving on the lake itself. It was a bit far away to see from where he was currently sitting, but whatever was moving around down there seemed to be around Nom's size, at least from what he could tell.
Good thing Nom had recently acquired a spyglass, thanks to one of the many favours Katie owes him. Which allowed him to have a closer look without needing to get up quite yet, and what a look it was.
The creature on the ice turned out to be a fairy just like him. Even if he couldn’t see their wings as it seemed they were wearing a floor-length cape, how that didn’t get annoying while flying remained a mystery to Nom. They seemed to be skating on the ice, doing fun-looking tricks. Their hair was a beautiful soft blue and their clothes were mostly white with some light blue and gold accents. Sadly even with the spyglass Nom could not see much of this fairy except for the broad shape... which really just gave him an excuse to fly down there and introduce himself. Who knows he may even be able to play one of his signature tricks on this new fairy.
So Nom quickly put his half-drawn map and spyglass away, so he could bolt into the sky and towards the unknown fairy dancing on the frozen lake.
While landing, Nom did overlook the fact that he would be landing on a slippery service though, which ended just as anyone would expect. Instead of gracefully landing right next to the blue-haired fairy, Nom continued sliding on the ice before falling face first onto it when he attempted to stop... well that was embarrassing... at least Katie or 4c didn't see it or he'd never live this down.
"Are you alright?" A soft and kind voice gently asked him as the unknown fairy glided closer on the ice before easily stopping in front of him.
"I'm great. I guess I was just going too fast." Nom said with a cocky smile as he looked up at the blue-haired fairy that was currently holding out a hand towards him, as if to help him up.
And goodness he wasn't sure for a moment if he was even still alive, with an angel like that standing in front of him. The fairy's light blue hair fell in such a way to frame his face perfectly. And his face was just perfect. Beautiful dark blue eyes, that made Nom's heart skip a beat. Light pink lips that made his face feel hot. And not to mention the glowing blue and white fractals all over his face that reminded Nom of snowflakes. Like who the hell was this guy, and why did he look so stunning?!
"Small frost fairy tip never land on the ice unless you have the shoes for it," the unknown fairy said as he helped Nom to his feet before letting go of him.
And Nom tried to stand on the ice it should be easy right, this fairy makes it look easy so why did Nom only fumbling manege to stand for a few seconds before landing on the ice again with a thud. Which at least earned him a small giggle from the frost fairy. A giggle Nom definitely wanted to hear again, though maybe not at his expense next time.
"You're not used to the cold are you?" The frost fairy asked with a cute little smirk while looking down at where Nom is sitting on the ice.
Now Nom could just admit that the other was right, but he really didn't want to, he wanted to make a good impression, impress the other even. "What? Of course I am. I can handle everything. I did that on purpose."
And with that, Nom tried to get up from the ice once more only to fall on his ass again. Forget his statement from earlier he'd rather all of his friends make fun of him for eternity than this beautiful stranger seeing any of this.
"You sure, mystery fairy?" The frost fairy asked with a raised eyebrow and an amused smile.
"Yes and the name's Nom, I'll have you know," Nom said while failing to stand up on the ice for a third time.
"Im scott," the frost fairy whose name he just learned said still with his amused smile as Nom attempted it once again. And why was the name so fitting? Who was Scott to be so fucking perfect?
"Nom, give me your hands," Scott said it as a statement as he held out his own hands for Nom to grab. And for whatever reason, Nom didn't even think about hesitating. He really wanted to hold Scott’s hands.. even if there still was a light blue glove between them.
Scott then proceeded to pull Nom to his feet and balance him so that he wouldn't fall for a fifth time.
"Instead of walking on the ice how you usually would you have to skate on it, glide in a way" Scott gently explained as he started skating backwards and pulling Nom along showing him how to move on the ice. And Nom had to really focus to actually do what he was saying, because his face felt hot and Scott was really distracting, okay?!
But even so, Nom tried to copy Scott’s movements and it actually worked, he felt like he was gliding instead of slipping, which definitely was an improvement. Scott then slowly let go of Nom's hands and moved away leaving him on the ice alone, but this time he didn't fall. Was he moving as gracefully as Scott, fuck no, not even close. But he was moving which would have to be good enough.
"This is actually kinda fun," Nom remarked as he glided forward with Scott now starting to skate elegant circles around him.
"It really is," Scott agreed with a kind smile before asking, "What's a spring fairy like you doing out here anyway?"
"Maps," Nom quickly said, "I'm really really fast you see, so I've been going around and mapping out the area for all of my friends back at the tree. And then I saw you on the ice and wanted to say hi, it's not too often you meet another fairy after all,"
"Really? That's so cool. I've never been outside of the winter lands myself, it must be so exciting out there," Scott said sounding genuinely interested.
"It's awesome," Nom agreed before almost nervously asking, "do you maybe want to see the maps I was working on?"
"Yes!!" Scott excitedly said while doing the cutest little somersault on the ice before stopping in front of Nom. Good this guy was actually going to give Nom a heart attack.
"O-okay," Nom managed to stutter out before going to grab the maps from his satchel and promptly proceeding to drop the whole thing due to his shaking and nervous hands, causing all of the maps to be sprawled out all over the ice... what is wrong with him today?!
Why is Nom such a bumbling mess right now? Can't Scott just have an effect like that on him, right? Hopefully not or this won't bode well for Nom in the future. At least Scott seems to be finding this funny as he was giggling again while gathering up the maps, so he could properly look at Nom's work.
