Chapter Text
Magnus and Alec did go on their first date but it was their second date that stuck out in Magnus’ mind the most. Alec had arranged all of it, giving him no hints as to what they would be doing or where they would be going.
When Alec turned up at his apartment, he had a basket in one hand and a blindfold in the other. Alec carefully placed the basket down before returning his eyes onto Magnus.
“Can I?” indicating to the blindfold in his hand. Magnus hesitated at first but then a warm smile broke onto his face.
“Of course. But who seems like the psychopath now?” Magnus chuckled which was infectious as Alec broke into a laugh.
“Touché. Trust me?” Alec’s voice lowered, whispering against Magnus’ ear and carefully placing the silk material around his eyes. A shiver went down his whole body.
“Always.” He didn’t know what possessed him to say that. It came out before he could process it. It was true; his feelings were quickly growing for the man faster and deeper than any he had ever felt before.
“I’m going to lead you to the destination. We’ll go slowly, it’s not too far away.”
As he spoke, he felt an arm slowly move down his biceps to his palm and then slowly entwined fingers. Magnus leaned into Alec for support but also for comfort. He wouldn’t mind being like this with him forever.
They walked slowly, the sun just going in as a slight coldness cut through the heat in the breeze. Magnus had decoded to wear his black mesh top with his tight green pants. Maybe it was Alec’s eyes that it reminded him of or maybe it was a coincidence he wore those bottoms. He knew that during the evening he would get cold, a foolish mistake he had made wearing his mesh top but he loved it so dearly it allowed for his favourite necklaces to be on show.
He felt Alec slowing and pulling towards him slightly. His breaths could be felt on his ear before he heard anything.
“We’re here.” Magnus instantly went to take off his blindfold but was stopped by a large hand.
“Let me.”
Magnus gave in to the man’s desire. Alec slowly untied the silk material from his face. Magnus opened his eyes slowly adjusting to the light. He saw those big hazel eyes shining back at him. Alec didn’t remove his hand that was rested on his cheek. His thumb stroked his cheek so delicately that if he used any more force he would break.
Magnus could have melted, the concern and care he received from this man was more than he had ever experienced in any relationship. It was unusual, unknown, foreign but for the first time he felt genuinely safe and loved.
Magnus could of kissed him right there, they had still not shared their first kiss. He didn’t want to push Alec. On their previous date Alec had communicated to him this was new for him and so he didn’t want to force anything. He wanted Alec to want this and for it to be natural.
When Alec pulled away he noticed they had walked to Brooklyn park bridge. He let his eyes wander to Alec who was now opening his basket and empting its contents. He layed out a blanket and then went on to reveal home bake goods of all sorts.
“Did you make all of this food?” Magnus was astonished that this man had gone to such lengths for him.
“Yeah… Are you okay with that?” Alec looked almost worried which wasn’t Magnus intention. Alec quickly rushed his reply.
“Of course. I just can’t believe you would take the time to do all of this for me…” Magnus knew he sounded vulnerable and he hated it. He had always shielded himself from showing his true feelings but with Alec this was harder. He felt Alec’s hand reach his face, tilting his head to meet his gaze.
“You are worth every moment of preparation it took and much more. Now let’s eat because I don’t know about you but I’m pretty hungry. I don’t know what you liked the most that’s why I made all sorts of bits.” Magnus couldn’t help but smile it may have been slightly broken with his insecurities trying to creep in but it was a smile nonetheless.
“I’m starving, what’s your favourite? Let’s start with that.” The pair sat across from one another and Alec talked him through everything he had made. Bit by bit they made their way through it all. Alec insisted on treating him right on his date by feeding his little testers to make sure he liked the food before he really had some.
“Now, I don’t know your opinion on cheese but I brought some with me. I also have some chutneys as well in case you wanted that as well and then-”
“Alexander, this is perfect, relax. You have gone above and beyond, thank you. Mind you, if you want to know the way to my heart, cheese would probably be the way.” It was a harmless comment but Alec’s cheeks grew a deep crimson colour at the talk of his heart. He was adorable.
After they devoured the last of the cheese the night was starting to reveal itself. The once warm air was now turning cold. Magnus hadn’t noticed until he felt the goosebumps on his skin. Alec clearly caught what he was staring at.
“You’re cold, come here.” Alec positioned himself next to Magnus and pulled him by his side. They both layed back, staring directly at the stars that were now shining brightly in the sky. Alec had one hand under his head and the other wrapped around the older man’s chest, pulling him into himself. Magnus was looking at the stars but to him, there was only one in the world and he was lying directly on it.
“Space is fascinating. Every star you see in the night sky is bigger and brighter than our sun. Of the 5,000 or so stars brighter than magnitude 6, only a handful of very faint stars are approximately the same size and brightness of our sun and the rest are all bigger and brighter. Of the 500 or so that are brighter than 4th magnitude which includes essentially every star visible to the unaided eye from a urban location, all are intrinsically bigger and brighter than our sun, many by a large percentage. Of the brightest 50 stars visible to the human eye from Earth, the least intrinsically bright is Alpha Centauri, which is still more than 1.5 times more luminous than our sun, and cannot be easily seen from most of the Northern Hemisphere.”
Magnus couldn’t help but smile listening to Alec talk about space, he could see his passion for it. Alec was so beautiful when he smiled and he hoped he would never stop. Slowly, his smile seemed to fade and then he quickly turned to face Magnus who had been watching him the whole time.
“I’m sorry, I completely just rambled then didn’t I?” He looked nervous like he had totally ruined the evening which was completely on the contrary.
“No Alexander you didn’t. I could listen to you talk about anything and everything forever.”
Alec removed his hand from behind his head and cupped Magnus face. Alec was staring into his eyes but his look eventually drifted to his lips. Magnus couldn’t help but look at Alec’s. The fact his tongue ran along his bottom lip with pure desire only accentuated his want for his man’s lips to be on his. Magnus and Alec lifted their faces in unison in order to meet each other’s lips with ease.
When their lips met it was like fireworks were going off, Magnus had never felt this kind of rush of adrenaline before. The kiss was soft at first as they worked out one another’s bodies and then much to his surprise, Alec deepened the kiss. Without breaking contact, Alec lifted his body onto Magnus’ lap. Magnus couldn’t help but groan as their proximity reduced only a few layers of clothing between them.
Magnus was surrendering to Alec’s every will. They were running out of air to breath, they parted lips but their foreheads rested against one another. Alec looked wrecked and he was sure he did to.
Through a raspy voice Alec spoke “I’m sorry, I got carried away. I hope that was okay.”
“Alexander, you’re perfect.” Magnus was the one to insinuate the kiss this time. He wanted to communicate what words couldn’t, that this was okay between them. That all he wanted was to be with him. He wanted Alec to feel comfortable.
Magnus unconsciously slipped his tongue into the other man’s mouth which was appreciated by the moan that came from Alec’s mouth. Alec cupped both of his cheeks and Magnus supported his weight by holding onto Alec bum. In that moment it was just them exploring one another and opening themselves up to each other. The moment was full of vulnerability that one another supported and nurtured with the kiss.
Magnus was sure Alec was an angel because nobody had made him feel like this. This was new for him, for both of them but they made it work. Magnus knew from that moment there was nobody other than Alexander Lightwood for him.
***
6 months later
Alec felt the warm rays of the sun beaming on his skin and the light was piercing his eye lids. He could hear the steady heartbeat under him. He must have been lying of Magnus’ chest. Alec reached out to wrap his arms around the soft chest, pulling himself into the safe haven that was his boyfriend.
Alec took a deep breath, breathing in his boyfriend’s aroma; it was intoxicating. How Alec a simple man who owned a coffee shop had gotten so lucky to be sleeping on the great Magnus Bane was a question he didn’t know the answer to.
Magnus had opened his broken heart up to him and Alec had done everything he could be support and fix it anyway he could. It broke his heart to know how Magnus had been broken down by Camille. The name left a bitter taste on his tongue. But here he was, in the loving embrace of his boyfriend, more than anything he could ask for.
He felt Magnus’ hand comb through his hair and playing with his scalp. Alec wasn’t embarrassed to moan to these kind of gestures anymore.
“Good morning beautiful.” Magnus whispered against Alec’s cheekbone before planting a chaste kiss on his cheek.
Alec opened his eyes slowly, adjusting to the light and saw Magnus smiling down at him. The sun was hiting his tanned skin perfectly and he looked like a god. Alec couldn’t help but smile at this. Damn, he was lucky.
“Good morning babe.” Alec pushed his head up and kissed him softly and maybe for a little too long but he loved the man. Alec hadn’t admitted this yet. This was his first real relationship and he didn’t want to ruin anything.
Alec sat up straddling Magnus. Magnus softly rubbed up and down Alec’s thighs, a gesture that had always soothed him. Alec leaned in and kissed him again and again.
“Alexander, if you want to play this game, at least let’s eat breakfast first. I’m starving, after last night’s antics I think a bit of energy would do us good.” The thought of last night was heavenly, Magnus had been his first and only and even though he had no comparison, Magnus was amazing and made him feel alive.
“Mmm… Breakfast sounds good. What’s on the menu, Chef Bane?” Alec hadn’t been one for flirting but Magnus had rubbed off on him. If Alec was being honest it was rather amusing and arousing to do so.
“Your wish is my command, Alexander.” Magnus had a sly smile in his face playing along with him.
“Well Mr Bane, I would order some eggs and bacon. But after, I’d like to order a slice of you to go.” Alec spoke only centimetres’ away from Magnus’ face, each word slowly dragged out in an attempt to tease Magnus. By the looks of it, it was working.
“Mr Lightwood, when did you become such a flirt?”
“I don’t know, Mr Bane, maybe I’m just a natural.” Magnus gave out a chuckle which warmed his heart.
“As I said, your wish is my command.” Alec wasn’t prepared for what happened next. Magnus flipped Alec onto his back and straddled him.
“I’ll be 15 minutes. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t.” with that said he left a burning kiss on his hairy chest and walked to his kitchen. Alec watched as he swayed his hips. Magnus was completely nude like himself and he couldn’t help but stare at his magnificent bum. Magnus knew exactly what he was doing.
Alec stretched quickly before getting out of bed to head to the ensuite. He quickly washed up and placed some low hanging pants on. A secret weakness of Magnus’. When Alec returned he noticed Magnus’ desk looked different. It was situated facing the window so Magnus would watch the world go by as he worked.
He approached the desk and saw a book he had never noticed before. It was a Hazel covered case that had a slight sparkle to it. Magnus’ influence of course. On the middle on the cover ‘Brooklyn Star’ was written in bod and underneath was Magnus’ name.
Alec didn’t recognise this one. He had read all of Magnus’ work before and after they were dating so he was curious as to what this was. He had not been allowed to look at any of Magnus’ current work for reasons he didn’t know but he didn’t push. Alec didn’t want to snoop on Magnus but his curiosity was growing inside of him.
Alec carefully pulled back the first few pages. Just before the poems started, he saw Magnus had dedicated this to book to somebody.
‘To my Brooklyn Star,
You opened up a world that I never knew existed and for that I will forever be grateful.’
Alec was confused and a slight bit of jealously was stinging in his chest. Who was Magnus calling his star? And why was he only just hearing about this? Alec put these thoughts aside and started looking through the poems. The first one was called ‘Barista’ and it was beautiful. He could almost imagine a coffee shop and its inhabitants. There was another called ‘My Coffee Order’ and Alec could see the raw emotion in this poem.
There were many poems and the more he read the more the puzzle pieces slowly started to fall into place. But it wasn’t until the final poem that he knew for sure that he was Magnus’ Brooklyn Star.
Brooklyn Star:
He removed the silk from my eyes,
And through hazel eyes, I saw a star look at me.
What a sight it is to see a star up close,
A star in Brooklyn. My Brooklyn star.
The stars above seem insignificant,
When you lay ontop of one.
The warmth, the tingle, the softness.
A star in Brooklyn. My Brooklyn star looked back at me.
How did I manage to capture a star?
I kissed a star tonight, I cradled him in my lap.
His lips were tender and nurtured my broken heart,
A star in Brooklyn. My Brooklyn star healed my soul tonight.
Here I am with you my star.
Never had I known passion till I met you,
You opened my eyes, my soul, my heart.
A star in Brooklyn. My Brooklyn star tonight I feel in love,
Madly in love with you.
Alec would be lying to himself if he said he wasn’t crying. He felt the warm tears slowly flow down his cheek. One landed on the book that was stuck in his frozen hands. Magnus had written all of these poems about them. Magnus had confessed him love to him in these poems.
Alec wasn’t sure he knew what to do this information. He was overwhelmed by love. When Alec came back to reality he saw the tear marks on the paper and a slightly too loud “Shit” escaped his lips.
Magnus popped his head round the corner, he must have grabbed some clothes as he was now matching Alec with low hanging pants. The older man spotted Alec’s slumped posture. Alec heard him so he quickly closed the book and placing it on the table. He tried to wipe his eyes discreetly but he was sure there were red marks under his eyes.
“Everything okay in here?” Magnus approached him slowly.
“Yeah, I was just- I just…” Alec had no excuse for the way he was looking. Magnus had indirectly said he loved him or maybe it was just to sell more books? That wasn’t like Magnus though.
“Alexander. You can tell me.” Magnus grabbed Alec’s hand and rubbed his thumb across it slowly.
“I found something I shouldn’t have, I didn’t mean to snoop. It just looked so beautiful. You keep telling me we share this apartment but I still crossed the line-”Alec was cut off by a finger over his mouth. Magnus knew exactly what he was talking about. Magnus wiped the last tear from his eye softly.
“What did you think?” Magnus voice only slight off only Alec who knew him saw the vulnerability.
“It was beautiful. I think my favourite is Brooklyn Star.” Magnus was staring into his hazel eyes deeply. He could see him thinking through this all.
“I knew you would have to see it soon. I didn’t want to keep it from you because this book is so special to me. But after Camille I-” Alec could almost see the lump rising in Magnus throat. He hated that he couldn’t do anything to stop the pain.
“Magnus, It’s okay. I understand. Magnus, there’s something I’ve been meaning to say for too long.” Alec look a deep breath for what was about to come next.
“You walked into my life and you changed everything for me. You made me feel alive, you made me feel something I never thought I would. I love you Magnus and if I’m being honest I think you stole my heart the moment you walked into my coffee shop. I have never felt or wanting something so strongly than when I am with you. I could never and would never hurt you because I love you and no matter what happens that’s not going to change.” Alec’s heart was racing and he felt like he might pass out.
Magnus looked in shock but his features slowly softened. “I love you too. You taught what it is to love, Alexander. I would be lost without you.”
Then, in a mad attempt to convey all these emotions they were feeling, their lips met. It was desperate and needy. It wasn’t the most refined kiss they had shared but it was deep and full of meaning. Their tongues met in their mouths, fighting to communicate their emotions.
It felt like they had been like this for hours but eventually they would give in to the need for air. When they did, they parted but allowed their foreheads to rest against one another’s. The looked into each other’s eyes and each had a smile that made their eyes crinkle.
Alec had the need to feel Magnus. To hold him. He immediately wrapped his arms around him tightly and breathed in every part of him. Magnus rubbed his thumbs against his broad shoulders soothing any last nerves.
“Alexander, I know you’d love -and I too- to stay like this forever but I’m afraid the breakfast might burn.” They both giggled and pulled away from each other. Their hands wrapped around each other’s waists, unable to let go of one another.
“We both know that I’m the better cook anyway.”
“Oh really? Well, get your ass into the kitchen then, Chef Lightwood.” Alec kissed his lips one last time.
“Aye, aye captain.” Alec broke the embrace and marched off to the kitchen to see what damage his boyfriend had done.
