Chapter Text
The silence that entered your ears was nothing like the deafening ringing silence that seemed to drive many people crazy. No, this silence was comforting, warm and soothing. Like a warm breeze blowing on your face during a Spring day, while you lay in the grass underneath a maple tree. Allowing you a moment of tranquility from your normally frantic mind. Your thoughts raced and blurred with each other several times a day, that you had to physically stop yourself and think about them one at a time. You ran on so much energy that it was sometimes impossible for you to process the world around you at times. It caused you a few hiccups in the road since you became overwhelmed fairly easily and became anxious just as quickly. This seemed to turn people away and it caused you not to have many people you would consider a close friend.
Hizashi was the first to weed himself into your life and proclaim himself as your new best friend. Though you had a feeling this had something to do with a scruffy face teacher that you had started seeing. But nonetheless you appreciated the extra company. It had been a while since you were able to speak with another human. Considering that Hero has been your best friend for the last two years. The only interactions you got were from coworkers and from your small cat café in the mornings. Even those were limited to repeated words. Hero had been the only one in your life up that you could fully trust with the brunt of the truth. He had always been your friend since the day you had adopted him.
You had gone to the shelter one day to take a look around to find a companion. You were a little nervous and had no idea what you were getting yourself into. All the kennels that lined the walls seemed so cold and small that it broke a piece of your heart every time you forced yourself to walk passed one. Every dog seemed in need of a loving home and if you could, you would take every single one of them, including the cats as well. Your heart was swelling with love that you had forgotten what it was like to breathe. Tears were beginning to prick at your eyes and causing you to blink repeatedly, trying to quell the stinging sensation.
You were about to turn around and leave the shelter for a bit to get some air for your aching lungs, when your eyes landed on a pair of adorable brown eyes. They seemed to draw you into a pool of safety and love. His stare did not waver nor did it seem like his attention was on anyone else. He was so small at the time. His fur has not formed those strange eyebrows that you have grown to love. Though he still tilted his head at the sound of your voice.
You walked over to him and noticed that he was accompanied by three other dogs. One of them appearing to be their mother and two other siblings. You cooed as he planted his paw on the cage in front of him. He looked up at you expectantly and when you did nothing he gave a tiny bark. Your heart melted instantly and you reached out and placed a single finger on his paw. He gave a strange whine and you knew that you had to have him at that very moment. It was as if you both knew you needed each other.
Upon requesting for the shelter employee to open his cage, you had entered in with no issues. The other two siblings bolting toward you and suddenly you were being loved on by three puppies. Life couldn’t get any better than this moment. Hero had jumped into your lap and began to nudge the other two away with his nose. You found it completely adorable and you nodded toward the employee who smiled brightly at the display. You sadly could not remember the face of the person who had helped you. But you knew they were happy to see a true bond that had formed between the both of you instantly. You filled out the paperwork, paid his fee, grabbed a hold of him and instantly went to the pet store. You spent more money in one day on him than you ever had on yourself. You had no regrets.
Since that day you and Hero were practically joined at the hip. You took him everywhere with you that you could or only to places where you could watch him out the window for a few minutes. You and he did have a sort of separation anxiety and you tried every way possible to keep him close to you. Some people found it sweet, while others found it kind of strange. You found his presence comforting and you felt safe to lay on the grass in the middle of a field and take in nature. He protected you from the evils of random trash cans on the side of the road, but also has led you out of the woods, after a hike, when you had lost your way due to your short attention span. He was calm but very playful and that was why you showered him with love and affection as much as you could. Your boss adored him and you were proud to show him off. You planned your days around him and made sure he was comfortable before heading off to work on the days you couldn’t take him. He sometimes would accompany you to work and those were the best days yet. Your boss could only allow him in every so often, at least 3 times a week. So, you really were separated only 2 times out of the week.
You were working on that.
You had a routine that you and Hero normally took on your way to work, jogs, evening walks, etc. You enjoyed planning your day around this path and being able to call into the small café just to order whatever you wanted. They knew your number by memory now and instead of picking up with their normal every day rehearsed greeting they just addressed you by name. You knew when a new person picked up the phone when they didn’t greet you by name. You had been going there a lot and they seemed to enjoy your business. Plus seeing the cats were always a welcomed sight for you. You enjoyed their strange behavior and liked to watch them interact with one another. They were strange fluffy clouds of pure evil, but you couldn’t help but want to continue to interact with them even if it was for a brief period. They were just so interesting to watch how different many of them were from the others. They held their own sassy personality and you just couldn’t help but find it rather amusing. Plus, if you were honest, cats had their own scents that you also found interesting. Except after they used the cat box. That was a big no for you.
It was during this time, when you were secretly petting one of the cats, that you noticed how you had seemed to have taken on a lot of Hero’s personality and vice versa. You had to sometimes remind yourself that you were a human and not a dog. Same goes for Hero and not being human, but that didn’t stop you from talking to him. You had to stop and wonder sometimes if you annoyed him. Maybe you were obnoxious and he had just been dealing with you as a survival instinct? Did you do something that most dogs don’t like and you just never noticed? Were you abusive but you didn’t notice? You had never hit Hero, let alone even yelled at him. He is the perfect dog from the very beginning. You tried your best to make sure he was happy and he never showed you any signs that he wasn’t.
So then, why did you get the feeling that you were losing your best friend?
Your eyes glanced over at your boyfriend who was asleep on your couch. His peaceful face wiped of all the worries and tensions of the world. His normally half-lidded tired eyes were closed completely, his disheveled hair cascading and framing his sharp and handsome face as he slept. His chest rising and falling with each deep breath that he took. You could hear his breathing from where you sat and felt a sense of tranquility as he continued his deep slumber. Your eyes traveled down his chest, covered by a washed out black long-sleeved shirt that he wore, and landed onto the large canine head that was laying on his stomach. His normally warm brown eyes were closed as his chest also rose and fell quietly with each breath. He was tucked comfortably in between Aizawa’s legs. The rhythm of their breathing seeming to match each other and you couldn’t help the small nip of envy that caused your heat to skip a beat.
It wasn’t that you were jealous or anything of your boyfriend taking the affection of your best friend. You knew that he would never do this on purpose to you. It was just annoying how your dog ended up snuggled up to him more so than normal. Hero even seemed happier upon seeing the scruffy face male after a day or two of his absence. Ever since you and Aizawa had become an item, you and him had been spending as much time as possible with one another. It had been a little strange at first to know that the underground pro-hero, Eraser head, enjoyed the company of an overly energetic female like yourself. He tried to find ways to spend time with you without coming out and asking. You first noticed this after dating for two months. You had found it endearing and he tried to deny it. The light blush on his cheeks was his give away.
You had been over the moon when he had asked you out at the Cat Café that one day. You were sure that he was going to get angry about your dog licking him. When you first noticed him, he seemed like the type to not enjoy human interactions much. You always noticed how he would focus on the cats in front of him and when someone did talk to him he was very matter of fact and direct. It wasn’t that he didn’t speak much, it was just that he was straight to the point and came off as a little mean. You couldn’t help but admire him from afar because of this. From his tired eyes to his strong hands. He didn’t seem to care much for appearances and you found yourself attracted to this confidence.
Though, the look on his face was priceless once Hero licked him. You were sure he was going to walk off and never speak to you again, but you couldn’t help the laughter that had escaped you. So, yes you were more than surprised when he asked you out and after dating the first month you didn’t know if you were compatible with each other. That almost crushed you.
You were full of energy and loved taking runs, going on long hikes, swimming, jumping up and down while waving your hands in the air, and just being overly excited. You and Hizashi seemed to feed on each other’s energy. Aizawa had once up and left you both to withstand each other’s company. He has come out and told you that it was too much for him to handle at times. It stung a bit but that didn’t stop you from just being yourself.
You and Hizashi were good friends and finding someone to match your energy was hard. You had fun with him and he seemed to also enjoy finally having a friend that shared his kind of enthusiasm. Though, you both had different kinds of taste in music, shows, etc. That never stopped the ongoing glow of energy. Aizawa always seemed more so silent than normal when you would text, call or go hang out with Hizashi. There were even times that he would make comments about you and Hizashi dating.
That was when you found out that Aizawa was jealous of Hizashi. You had been both shocked, flattered and a little sad. You had never meant anything by it and didn’t notice his subtle comments to glares. You had to remind him that it was a curse being so full of energy that your brain processed things just a tad bit slower or sometimes it would go over your head. You had just thought it was just Aizawa being himself and since you were still at the beginning of the relationship you still had a lot to learn about the normally silent male. It never occurred to you that he would be jealous of you and his friend. You had always thought you gave off the vibe and presentation that you were with Aizawa and no one else. Though once you started looking back at those times, you could see why he would think such things. He was direct and to the point about it as well and at first glance you would think that he was bored and uninterested, but that was when you noticed the small movements of his fingers or the way his lip tightened in a firm line. It only made you take more notice and tone down your enthusiasm a bit. It relaxed both you and Aizawa without having to cut ties with his friend.
You were someone who listened carefully to other people’s feels and always took them into account once they were made aware to you. You were what they called a bleeding heart or someone who just wore their feelings on their sleeves. That was why when Aizawa made his jealousy known, you tried to take more notice in him and adjust your personality accordingly. He noticed the change instantly and even started trying to adjust himself to compliment you. It wasn’t that you were changing who you were or he was changing who he was. It was just that you were more so accommodating each other in order to better the relationship. You were very opened and expressed your feelings through words and actions while he was more open with words. He didn’t hesitate to tell you that he needed space or that you were going a bit overboard, and in a way, it helped you sort of mellow out. Well, to your standards anyways.
You loved and craved affection and relished in the moments that Aizawa would seek you out. You were normally the one to initiate any sort of physical affection. Either by holding his hand, wrapping your arms around him, kissing his cheek, nose or forehead. You could dish it out all day much to the dismay of the night hero. He didn’t mind you holding his hand much anymore. At first, he would only reciprocate any sort of touch in the comforts of closed doors. That was until he took notice as to how many males would say hello or stop to talk to you during your routine walks/runs. Many of them assuming that Aizawa was just a friend and even being so bold as to ask you out in front of him. Since then, he had been a bit more open to holding your hand out in public. Aizawa took note that you were easily distracted and, as such, did not notice when someone was flirting with you.
Aizawa was protective of you and sometimes showed a little possessive. Not in a bad sense and not to the point of him being overbearing. It was enough that you knew that you were his and that he cared. He would check in on days where he was unable to see you. Just to make sure you were okay and that you didn’t need anything. He also would go out of his way to pick you up from work when you didn’t have Hero and walk you home when it was late. You knew that this was also his hero side but still enjoyed the companionship he brought.
You could say that Aizawa was somewhat of your opposite. He was the kind of person who preferred to stay at home and nap, with occasional sessions of cuddling. He would be open about watching movies and even try and persuade you to stay in by wrapping his arms around you and laying you down. It was hard for you to say no when he did this. He would lay in the grass and relax as you and Hero played and laughed. Though Hero sometimes would also go and lay down next to Aizawa and you would then be left trying to get Hero to join you, only for Aizawa to bring you down and have you curl into him as he took a quick nap. How someone like him could pull off being so adorably sweet? You would never know.
You sometimes put to question how this man was a pro-hero considering how lazy he could sometimes be. He ate horribly and would sometimes make low blow comments to people around him. You knew he had a certain distaste for people and especially anyone in the media field, but it still struck you as odd how he decided to become a hero in the first place. You had been on the receiving end of that sharp tongue and it always made you flinch remembering those times. It was strange indeed at first, until you would see him in action. It was nights where you both had gone out for a night stroll and if someone were to call out for help he would instantly ensure your safety and then go and check on the source. He was amazing to watch in action and that was when you realized that there was more to him than meets the eye. His values, his intelligence and what he holds close are what makes him a hero to all.
It is also safe to say that the first time you saw him without a shirt on, you would have bled out from a nose bleed. You never would have guessed that there was a hunk of a man underneath all those loose fitting black clothing. This was something else that seemed a bit strange considering you loved bright colors and he preferred only darker tones. Not to say that you didn’t have any black clothing, it was just whatever mood you were in was the deciding factor of the color you wore. Comments sometimes were made as to how someone like yourself ended up with Aizawa.
Aizawa was full of surprises. When you had first saw him at the coffee shop you were instantly attracted to him because he was mysterious. A little cliché on your end but you were a sucker for romance movies and books. You also noticed how he would treat the cats at the café was such tenderness that it made your heart flutter looking at him. You knew there was more to him than what he portrayed himself out to be. He wasn’t much to look at when you both first met but that didn’t stop you from daydreaming about him. Thinking about how incredibly sweet he would be as a lover and that just made you crash into nearby walls and poles. You received several bruises thanks to your daydreams.
After you both were together for some time, Aizawa had come over for a movie marathon one day. You were in your cute pajamas while he was in loose fitting dark grey sweatpants and a large black sweater. He had sat down on the couch with you and pulled out a hair tie. Your curiosity got the best of you and you continued to stare at him as he pulled the dark strands of hair out of his face. Your mouth dropping open once he had secured it in a low bun. He gave you a sideways glance and instantly took notice of your wide eyes, parted lips and deep blush on your face. He gave you a small smirk and that was all it took for you to jump onto him and crash your lips onto his. You didn’t get through all the movies on your list that day. Though, it didn’t seem that Aizawa minded much.
Aizawa wasn’t much of a romantic but he knew how to make you feel special when he chose to. He could make butterflies erupt in your stomach whenever his eyes landed on you. Your cheeks would flush whenever he took your hands and pulled you to him. He seemed to take extreme pleasure in making you blush. He would do small things that would ensure a deep blush on your face and found it funny that you tried hard to keep it at bay. It was nearly impossible and he knew it.
The first time he wanted to get a little more intimate almost killed you from the blood pooling in your head, but that was also the night he found out that you had incredible stamina and thus would be losing many nights of sleep. You were surprised he was able to keep up with you and was not grumpy when he was forced to leave you for his patrol that night. You secretly had wished he would stay longer, becoming instantly addicted to him.
He was stubborn and sometimes kind of mean to his friends. He didn’t seem to like any sort of attention from people and hated being in the spotlight. You sometimes stood out and it caused a few moments of awkwardness for the both of you. Especially when you and Hizashi got each other overly excited and created a scene. It took every amount of patience Aizawa had not to clock both of you in the head. Though you knew he would never lay a hand on you like that. He was just a grumpy soul and you adored him for it.
Aizawa was the sweetest guy you had ever met.
There was once a time when you and he had gone out on a walk with Hero. He was begrudgingly holding your hand after ten minutes of you pretending to cry over his cold demeanor. Telling him that all you wanted was to make sure that other woman knew that you were his and vice versa. He didn’t believe that was the only reason but nonetheless gave in to your demands. He never did understand why you enjoyed public displays of affection so much. You stated it was you didn’t want other woman flirting with him and also because you couldn’t contain all the adoration you had for him. He still didn’t have an answer for you. You were an enigma sometimes.
While you both were walking down the sidewalk you noticed a small store window with lots of colors and flashing lights. It beckoned you over and you couldn’t help but comply. You dropped Aizawa’s hand so quickly that you almost toppled the poor guy over as you bolted toward the little store. You looked inside and gasped. You squealed when you noticed the adorable stuffed plushies of All Might in full display on the window. They were decorated in his signature hero’s uniform and the cape behind him was of silk. You cooed happily at them and was about to rush inside when an annoyed voice reached your ears.
“What is that?”
Your smile faltered a bit when you turned toward your boyfriend of a month. He had a scowl on his face that caused his face to appear darker behind his hair. He glared at the toys in front of him and shook his head in disbelief. He huffed out an annoyed breath and began to look elsewhere. Not noticing your slowly diminishing enthusiasm at his behavior.
“Who would spend money on something that ridiculous?”
You felt your shoulder’s tense as you watched your retreating boyfriends back. You looked over at him and then at the adorable plush doll. You bit your bottom lip and felt a small amount of sadness creep into your heart. Hero whined next to you, feeling your discomfort. Your mind was racing a mile a minute. Debating on whether you should just go in and buy it or walk away and forget it ever existed. Your heart reached out toward the first option and you tried your best not to let his words effect you. You knew that Aizawa had a dislike for the number one hero. You didn’t even know Aizawa was an actual pro-hero until he had to leave you one night to go on patrol. It was exciting and when you asked him about All Might. His response was a clipped and short, seeming irritated at the question. So, you never brought him up again.
You stayed as far away from the subject even when he had mentioned that he was working as a teacher with him. You had bit your lip and kept as quiet as you could. Not wanting to offend or anger the cat loving guy. He seemed to take your silence as you listening and understanding his frustrations but in reality you were dying to meet him.
You see, Hero was named after All Might.
Yes, your beloved companion received his name because of the number one hero. You had always admired All Might and how he could smile even when faced with the most difficult of situations. He put his life on the line for the people to be safe and was the reason that the criminal activity was at an all time low. Although, you did appreciate the other hero’s just as much, but All Might was just so amazing. He always told everyone to go above and beyond to be able to become their own hero. He was always so happy and cheery. He made you happy whenever you saw him on TV. Just thinking about the number one hero got you pumped for the day!
It actually happened in a crucial part of your life where you had hit a road block. You had gone through a massive depressive moment in your life that seemed to not be coming to end. You were stuck and you didn’t know where else to go or how to get yourself out of this situation. It felt like the world was just the same and refused to change its cold and unforgiving self. You had tried so many ways to fix whatever was wrong with you and only made you sink further and further down into a black hole. You crawled and cling to any feeling other than numbness and tried to force laughter into your life. But nothing seemed to be working. That was until that day, when All Might made his debut. It was like something out of a comic book and you found yourself smiling, excitement flooding your veins and it was as if you had woken up from a dreadful dream. You knew at that moment that everything would be different and it truly was.
And that was how you ended up getting Hero and naming him after the number one hero. A subtler way to honor All Might but all that mattered was that you knew the true story.
You hadn’t told anyone about this considering you never had any real close friends and your family was elsewhere enjoying their lives. You were alone of the time and if someone were to ask you who could be your emergency contact. You would be at a loss of words. You normally would just put down your boss. Ignoring the looks of pity thrown your way. You were used to it and with Hero at your side. You still felt invincible. This would have never been possible without All Might being the symbol of peace.
You would be damned if you were going to allow Aizawa to talk poorly about All Might.
You hadn’t realized that Aizawa had stopped and turned back around to look at you. He noticed you weren’t following when he was about to ask you what you wanted for dinner. His gaze shifting and landing back on you in front of the store still. A sullen look on your face and your shoulders tense.
Since he had met you, he had never seen you anything other than happy. You were always happy and that seemed to increase when he was added into the equation. He enjoyed that about you and it always reminded him that there was someone out there that was just happy to be with him. It made him feel good inside and he never wanted that feeling to go away. He knew he wasn’t the best at expressing his feelings, but he knew you accepted him just the way he was. So, when he walked back over to you and noticed the start of tears in your eyes, it set something off in him. His heart picked up its tempo and he felt his body break out in a cold sweat.
He noticed that you refused to meet his stare and he immediately felt a pang of guilt. He looked at you and then at the plush doll on display. He knew it had to do with the ridiculous looking doll that had somehow caused your sudden change in attitude. He felt it kind of childish and a little immature to be crying over the toy, but he also knew that there was something else that he was missing from this puzzle. He frowned at the decision he had made already made upon seeing the frown on your face. He reached out and took a hold of your limp hand. He used it to pull you toward him while his other one wrapped itself around your waist and settled at the center of your back. He placed his chin on top of your head and sighed deeply. He felt you stiffen slightly in his arms and he couldn’t help the guilt that began to prick at his heart. He kissed the top of your head and stepped back from you.
He entered the shop and bought you the plush doll.
You were so happy that you had cried tears of joy as you threw yourself into his arms. You kissed him and peppered his face with more kisses, causing the easily annoyed male to blush slightly. He took your hand and led you away from the shop. Muttering incoherent words under his breath. You and Hero trudging along happily.
You had explained everything to him that night. About how you went through a very bad depression alone, how All Might had given you the hope you needed to seek help and how it eventually led you to Hero. He listened carefully to every word that you said. His eyes never leaving your face nor did he try and interrupt you. It was scary to open-up to someone so soon after years of fighting this battle on your own. You thought he would think you were weak or pathetic after you were done. But he didn’t say anything, there was no judgment in his eyes nor did he make any remarks. He instead sat down closer to you, brought his hand behind your neck and gently caressed your cheek with his thumb before pulling you in for a deep kiss. You knew he understood in that moment and that was when you realized how in love you were with him.
He started picking on you instead over your obsession with All Might. You knew he was just teasing you, but you felt the need to protect the unbeatable hero. Aizawa found this strangely cute and even though he didn’t particularly like the famous yellow haired hero. He thought, just for that second, how thankful he was to him for saving you that day.
You both fought constantly over the smallest of things. You being the one who was mostly being unreasonable. You allowed your emotions to judge the situations and sometimes you just needed a moment to compose yourself and understand what it was that he wanted or needed from you. You would go into your room to ponder and stew over it. He sometimes would leave and come back later or sit on your couch and wait for you to come to him. Depending on the severity of the fight. It never lasted very long. The longest you went angry was a full day and by the end of it you called him crying. He only sighed over the phone and said he would see you later that night. This was also fairly new to him, and you both had to overcome a lot the first month of your relationship.
You still couldn’t believe how far you both had come since then. You had fallen into a good routine, a rhythm that you both enjoyed. It was wonderful and you enjoyed being able to walk with him to his job, using the café as a meeting point and happily accepting the coffee that he would buy you. It was happy and you wanted nothing more than to continue to feel this dream like romance forever. You didn’t think that anything would bring you down at this point. But that was soon to change when Aizawa started spending the night at your place more often. That was when this issue started occurring. It wasn’t really an issue that would cause a fight or anything but it was an issue that you had and didn’t know how to handle very well.
You were a little nervous the first night Aizawa stayed the night at your place. You both had re-dressed after being intimate. You were feeling clingy and you wanted nothing more than for him to stay. You had wrapped your arms around him and placed your face on his back. You hummed lightly and out right asked him to stay with you. He was quiet at first and you were worried that maybe you had overstepped the boundaries. You waited with bated breath only to feel movement and see him turn his head to look at you, giving you a small smile.
“I wish you would have said something before we got dressed…”
Your face almost didn’t recover after that comment and he continued to chuckle at your expense.
Here was the biggest problem though. You had a fairly nice large bed, it was rather big for you and Aizawa had asked why you had such a massive bed. You dodged the question easily and it was never brought back up again. Until you reflexively went and opened the door to your bedroom. Hero came charging in and hopped onto the bed with no issues. He went right over and began to lick Aizawa’s annoyed face. You rushed over and pulled him away a bit and scolded him softly on his manners. He licked your face and you giggled happily. You paused and looked at your boyfriend and at your dog realizing you had some explaining to do to the both of them.
“U-Um… so remember when you asked me why I had such a large bed for myself?”
Aizawa’s eye twitched slightly as he looked at you with his tired eyes. You knew he already guessed where this was going and was just giving you the chance to speak your thoughts. He wouldn’t admit it but your rambling was adorable to watch. Especially if he was the one who had caused you to become flustered.
“Well, you are kind of in Hero’s spot…”
Hero nudged your hand happily. Waiting for Aizawa to move from his normal sleeping spot. Aizawa looked between the both of you silently. The tired annoyed look he was giving you made you almost regret opening the door. You wanted him to stay but you didn’t want to kick Hero out of his bedroom. He would be so confused why he couldn’t sleep in his bed and why this male, who you probably smelled like now, was in his spot. Aizawa sighed and ran a hand through his hair and looked off to the side of the room. He got up from the bed and began to walk to the front of it. You thought he was just going to leave and was about to stop him. When he continued to walk toward your side of the bed. Hero watched the tired male happily. He didn’t lay down or move. Aizawa motioned for you to scoot over and you happily obliged. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you flushed against his chest. His breath tickling your neck.
You would have cried tears of joy right at that moment. Aizawa was just simply so amazing to you and Hero. He never raised his voice at the both of you or judge you with how you interacted with your companion. It made your heart swell and you just knew you wanted to spend the rest of your life like this with him. You smiled up at Hero and opened your mouth to tell him to lay down when he suddenly moved and began to nudge himself in between you. You watched shocked as he forced himself in the middle and laid his head on Aizawa’s arm. The dog happily and content with being in its spot.
You felt your heart tightened at the sight. A lump formed in your throat but you pushed it down. You weren’t sure if you were happy that this was happening or somehow worried that maybe Hero liked Aizawa more. You bit your bottom lip and noticed Aizawa looking at you through half-lidded eyes. His face seemed relaxed and a bit amused at the situation.
“When you asked me to stay, this was not what I was expecting…”
You chuckled lightly at that and nudged the dog slightly to wake him. You ordered Hero to move to his spot but the dog nuzzled into Aizawa more. You felt your heart do that strange twist again. Wondering why your dog never really did that to you. He occasionally had in the past but since you got your bed he has been more content with just sleeping next to you. You missed your dog cuddles and felt a small pang of envy hit you. Aizawa looked down at Hero and then back at you. You finally grabbed Hero’s collar and moved him toward his spot again. You nudged him down and gave him a firm pat on the side. You kissed him on the side of his snout and turned back toward Aizawa. He gave you a small smile and wrapped his arms around you again. Hero did not stay put for long as he moved again and this time curled himself against Aizawa’s legs. You blinked a couple of times and wondered what on earth had gotten into your dog. You didn’t get a response when Aizawa nudged you a bit.
“Might as well get in the middle now since Hero seems intent on this…”
You nodded numbly and scooted yourself into the middle of the bed. Aizawa popped himself onto his back and brought you to his chest. You snuggled into it happily and sighed. You opened your eyes at the sound of shuffling and noticed Hero move from his spot again and this time place his head against Aizawa’s stomach. Letting out a content sigh and closing his eyes. You felt that familiar twist and this time it hurt more.
You could feel a lump begin to form in your throat at your childish emotions. You knew it was wrong to feel this way. It was unfair and not to mention somewhat petty to blame Aizawa for the way you were feeling. You bit your bottom lip as you attempting to stop your lip from quivering. Salted tears began to burn your eyes as you looked over at the duo. You wanted to just go over there and wake Hero up. Take him off Aizawa and either go on a run or just go somewhere else away from this. It was not right to want to get away from him, but Hero was your best friend first.
You sniffled slightly and bit back the whimper that threatened to fall from your lips. You placed your head against the single couch’s arm rest. Curling into yourself in order to prevent the sinking lonely feeling from spreading. You closed your eyes to block the tears from spilling but only caused them to cascade. They flowed down your cheeks gently as images of Hero as a baby popped into your head. From the first time you brought him home to now. It was like a movie replaying in your mind. How maybe you could have done something differently, maybe if you had not left him alone those two days of the week or maybe if you weren’t so incompetent of taking care of yourself. Then maybe he would love you just as much as he was falling for Aizawa.
A small whimper escaped your lips much to your dismay. You heard shuffling from the couch and you bolted up from your spot and practically sprinted down your small hallway and into your room. You closed the door gently, trying not to make any unwanted noise. If you were lucky, Aizawa would still be asleep and Hero would remain glued to his side. Leaving you alone with your misery.
You trudged over to your bed and very weakly crawled into it slowly. Your arms wobbling and your tears still falling causing droplets to appear on the bedsheets. Your heart ached and part of you wanted to be mad. You wanted to be mad at Aizawa and Hero. You wanted to tell him to wake up and leave. Maybe if you showed a little assertive drive then Hero would see you as a better option. Your heart twisted at the thought and you knew you could never bring yourself to do that. Aizawa was an amazing boyfriend and you knew that. Your irritational mind coming up with stupid ways to prevent these feelings from further escalating.
You let out a small choked sob and it felt like it echoed within your silent room. It felt so large and empty with just you in it. The bed seemed much too large now and you felt absolutely silly for being in it alone. You let out a staggered breath and grabbed onto Hero/Aizawa’s pillow. You hugged it to you tightly and cried silently into it more. Your heart breaking with every single second that Hero didn’t come for you. He always came for you, he always brought the smile back on your face. So why wasn’t he here now?
You felt a sudden dip in the mattress causing you to bolt up and look at the foot of the bed. Aizawa crawled toward you slowly. A frown plastered on his face as he noticed your tear streaked cheeks. His eyes filled with concern as he laid down next to you. He wrapped his arms around your waist and brought you to him as he nuzzled his nose into your hair. He inhaled your scent lightly but remained silent as he waited for you to finish crying. You let out a few strangled sobs as you turned and clung to the black shirt that Aizawa wore. Your faced buried within his chest as your body trembled with each painful gasp. Aizawa ran his fingers through your hair gently attempting to sooth the obvious sadness that was spreading within you. He was not expecting this sudden shift with you today. You were happy, smiling and laughing just earlier. He had fallen asleep for possibly an hour or maybe more. He didn’t look at the clock right away when he and Hero were startled awake at the sound of your whimper.
It was mostly the dog that woke Aizawa from his deep slumber. He had jolted up and caused the pro-hero to snap his eyes open. He noticed you run passed him. He didn’t see the tears streaming down your face nor did he mean to get up and go after you. He had thought you would be back soon and wouldn’t be long. He laid back down and was about to fall back asleep when Hero lunged off the couch and stood in front of Aizawa. He stared Aizawa down and made a strange noise as if he was making a low humming sound. Aizawa raised a brow at the dog and let out a tired huff. He closed his eyes again and then felt a paw at this shoulder. Aizawa opened his eyes again and noticed Hero nudging him and making the same humming noise.
Aizawa felt annoyed at this and wanted nothing more than to fall back asleep, but it seemed like your dog had other ideas. He frowned and stood up quickly from his spot. Yawning lightly as he moved to go to the front door. He always felt strange when he was left alone with your dog. It wasn’t that he hated your dog. He just felt somewhat uncomfortable with him. He never could tell when he was going to jump into his arms and lick his face. When he wanted to just have a moment with you the dog would get in the way. It was as if you both were parents and this was your child.
Aizawa glanced back at Hero and noticed the dog standing in the hallway in front of your bedroom door. Confusion struck him at the odd behavior from your dog. He walked over to him and felt his frown deepened when he noticed your bedroom door closed. Hero looked from Aizawa to the door and seemed a little anxious. Aizawa’s heart suddenly picked up its pace. Adrenaline began to fill him when he grabbed a hold of the door handle and pushed it opened slowly. The first thing he was met with was silence and an occasional snuffle here and there. His heart pounded as he pushed the door opened all the way. Hero sat at the entrance of the room, watching you. Aizawa moved forward and began to crawl onto the bed causing you to look up.
Aizawa felt his heart break at the distraught look on your normally vibrant face. He was going to start questioning you, wanting to know what had happened to suddenly break you into pieces. Yet the look on your face made him stop. He curled into you and pulled you close to him. Waiting it out until you were ready to talk.
You both laid there for a moment. Your occasional sobs and sniffles the only thing breaking the silence. Hero laid at the entrance of the door panting as he continued to observe. No one else dared to break the silence. The trembling in your limbs ceasing and the shuddered breaths more relaxed. Aizawa felt your hands slowly loosening and he tried hard not to pull you flushed against him again. Your tears would surely be his weakness if someone tried to hurt him. He knew what he felt for you was strong and he would do anything to keep you smiling.
He felt a slight push against his chest and he lowered his gaze to your puffy red face. You were still sniffling as you wiped away the remnants of tears. You didn’t meet his gaze and you looked off the side as you bit your bottom lip. You were nervous that much was obvious to the tired male but about what? He was unsure as to where to start.
“Are you okay?” He asked softly.
He pushed some hair away from your face. Gently allowing his fingers to graze over your cheek in a very affectionate way. Your heart hammered at the touch and you felt yourself leaning into it more. Your eyes fluttering closed while he continued to caress your face. You hummed lightly and Aizawa couldn’t resist leaning forward and kissing your lips gently causing a gentle shiver to run up your spine. The kiss didn’t last nearly as long as you wanted, making you lean forward in an attempt to capture his lips again. He gave a breathy chuckle and your body reacted to hearing it. A warmth spreading from your chest to the rest of your body.
“Talk to me…”
Aizawa whispered against your lips causing a jolt of electricity to travel down your body. You wanted to continue this small teasing game Aizawa seemed to like but knew that if you did not give him an answer he would become worried. You felt a blush rush to your cheeks from shame and embarrassment. How were you supposed to explain to him that you didn’t like how Hero preferred him over you? He would surely leave you once those words left your lips. He would think you were strange for having these feelings over your dog. You wanted to curl into yourself and hide from his gaze. Not wanting to see his judgmental stare. You took a deep breath and held it for a couple of seconds before letting it out. You just hoped you would be able to survive the heartache once he decided you weren’t worth the effort.
“I-I just don’t know how to…” Came your weak reply.
“Just start from now and we can go from there…”
You gulped and wondered how this man had such patience’s for you. How could he walk into the room, allow you to cry and then still wait for an answer without becoming annoyed? Had it been the other way around you would be worried sick and trying every way possible to find the source of his pain. You wouldn’t be able to think about anything until he would tell you what had caused the tears. Though you highly doubted that he would cry over something so trivial as jealousy. You sighed. Well it was now or never.
“I-I don’t think Hero loves as much anymore…”
You cursed your voice for cracking. Indicating just how extremely vulnerable and utterly weak you felt at the thought of your best companion not being happy with you. You felt another shuffling on the bed and looked down toward the end of the bed to see the cause of your heartache. Tears blurred your vision of him as he laid a single paw on your leg. He tilted his head as he heard small snuffles begin to come from you. You felt your heart warm at the sight and gave him a small smile. As if trying to reassure your companion that you were alright.
“Why do you think that?”
You snapped your attention back to your boyfriend and looked at him and then Hero. That was all Aizawa needed in order to figure out what exactly had been bothering you. He wanted to chuckle at your innocent feelings. It was a little ridiculous that you were jealous of him over a dog. If he had to be honest he was a little disappointed that you weren’t jealous over a fan but you also weren’t the type to worry about him leaving. You had always told him that if he wasn’t happy that you would understand. There was no point in staying if someone wasn’t happy.
Though the problem was that Aizawa was happy, extremely happy to be with you. He wanted to always be the one to save you from danger. Protect you no matter the cost to him. Yet, you found your solace in Hero and, to his annoyance, All Might. You had been struggling with your inner demons for a long time until you found your center. It was rare when you would have random depressive episodes or anxiety attacks. It was so far in between that he sometimes couldn’t help but worry about you more. What if one day he wasn’t there to help you? What if you got hurt or worse hurt yourself? Leaving you in the mornings was hard or not seeing you for a full day was harder. He wanted you safe and he wanted to be the one to provide that comfort. It was hard pulling away from your embraces and knowing that the real villain was hiding within you.
“It is just obvious to tell…” You whispered.
Aizawa knew that this situation was going to need to be handled differently. He knew that it was your anxiety talking and it had been slowly eating away at you. He would have to speak directly, firmly and most importantly truthfully. He would need to tell you in a way that you could process in the state you were in now. Any other day his normal speaking pattern would get the job done, but on these days, he had to choose them wisely.
Aizawa brought his hand under your chin and forced you to look up into his dark eyes. Your eyes were puffy and tears still brimmed the sides of them. He felt his heart pull and he couldn’t but lean down and give your parted lips a quick peck before pulling back and focusing his eyes on yours.
“He was the one who brought me to you.” A small smile formed on his face. “He knew you needed more than he could provide you. He knows I am here also to protect you and I would do anything to ensure your safety.”
Aizawa paused for a moment. Allowing his words to slowly register within you. Hero nudged himself onto your leg and placed his head on your hip as if to confirm Aizawa’s statement. You felt your bottom lip begin to quiver at the sentiment and how Aizawa was trying to calm you. He was being so calm, kind and patient with you that it was hard not to feel overwhelmed by it all. Tears started falling down your cheeks again, but this time for a different reason.
“Allow me to be your hero.”
You flung your arms around Aizawa and buried your face in his shoulder as you cried. His arms encircling around your waist as he brought you even closer to him. You smiled into his shoulder and felt all the worry and stress that you had been feeling slowly began to dissipate. Hero stood from his spot and came over to you and began to lick your face causing you to giggle uncontrollably.
“H-Hero, please stop!” You giggled out.
Aizawa pulled you from him and sat you both up. Your smile was radiant and your eyes shimmered with so much happiness that it filled Aizawa with warmth. He gave you a small smile back and brought one of your hands to his lips. A blush ran across your cheeks at the gesture and you felt your heart pick up speed. Aizawa smirked at you when he noticed the blush deepened. His smirk only widened as you placed a hand over your heart. He could tell your heart rate had increased and he was more than happy that he was the cause of it. He leaned forward and placed a delicate kiss on your forehead and then your nose. You squeaked and pulled away from him. Shyly glancing to the side of you. He chuckled at this cute display.
“Can I finally give Hero your All Might plush?”
“Shota!”
