Chapter Text
The first thing Darcy ever gave Parker was the extra packet of fruit snacks she always saved for her afternoon snack. They’d been eaten in less than thirty seconds, so she always made sure to ask her mom for yet another one or two bags to share.
The second time Parker ever accepted anything was after their first sleepover, when Darcy insisted her trundle bed was always available whenever her friend wouldn’t or couldn’t go home. And while her friend would usually show up late enough her parents would have that worried expression the next morning, she was at least talked out of coming through the window every time.
The third time, Darcy didn’t think of it as giving so much as unintentional mafia behavior when Parker took her friend’s complaining about boys harassing her as a mission. Admittedly, the boys had never bothered her again but were known to flinch whenever a rope of any kind was in sight.
The fourth hadn’t even registered to Darcy, but apparently tips about the type of tasers that could bring down the god of thunder were highly valued in Parker’s line of work.
And while most people would assume that because Parker had always been poor and in and out of the system Darcy had always been the one to give everything, they would have been wrong. Because the last thing she’d given Parker was the exact same thing her friend had given in return. An alibi, an accomplice, and a safe haven who never expected the other to be more than what they were.
