Riley’s Ficlets: Midoriya/Shigaraki

Chapter 3: “Why did you spare me?”

Summary:

Midoriya is a villain, but he won’t kill just anyone.

Chapter Text

Midoriya Izuku is a villain, but he still has standards. Unlike some villains he knows, he doesn’t kill out of anger or pure sadism, happy to slaughter anyone who stands in their way. He hates the world and he likes being a villain but… he doesn’t kill just anyone.

But he does kill. When he chooses to kill people, it is to protect his fellow League of Villains members, to save his friends and boyfriend from death. Or to kill people who align themselves with the ‘good guys’ but are actually pieces of shit, because people like that are the biggest hypocrites going. But whatever his reasons, he considers his style of villainy a bit more… sophisticated.

Although if he mentions this around the others, Toga and Dabi have a field day teasing him. But Shigaraki just rolls his eyes and smiles, and Midoriya knows his boyfriend accepts him even if they act differently as villains.

And that’s why he loves Shigaraki Tomura, because they get along perfectly.

One day, Midoriya finds himself in the middle of a battle with a group of Pro Heroes. As he is Quirkless, he brandishes a pistol and a collection of knives to use as weapons, and sweat soaks into his gloves as he holds one of his largest knives.

Despite his lack of a Quirk, Midoriya is just as skilled at fighting as the others, and easily keeps up in the fight. He shoots and stabs and dodges attacks, blood spraying everywhere as dust clouds the air and civilians scream in the distance.

“Why the fuck are these bastards here?” Shigaraki says, darting towards Midoriya and holding a hand to his arm. Blood seeps through his fingers and Midoriya’s eyes widen. “Was supposed to be a simple attack on a government office, but no, these fuckers turned up. It’s their fault everyone’s dying. If they left us alone, only a handful of politicians would die, not dozens of random fuckers. Just keep going, Izukun. We can’t lose to them.”

“I know,” Midoriya says, reloading his pistol. “I know.”

Despite the battle raging, they smile before separating again. taking advantage of the chaos, Midoriya darts up the stairs, where he finds Heroes trying to help people escape out of the windows.

Six bullets later, the Pro Heroes and politicians in the room lay dead on the floor. Only one person remains, a young woman who appears to be a secretary. She cowers on the floor, covering her bleeding head.

Midoriya walks over and puts his gun in his pocket. He grabs her arms and hauls her to her feet, and leads the woman to the window, below which a net waits to help people jump.

She looks at him, tears in her eyes. “You’re not…?”

“No. You did nothing wrong,” Midoriya says. “Go.”

“Why did you spare me?” she whispers.

He helps the woman sit on the window ledge, and, just before he pushes her, he whispers, “I only kill those who deserve it.”
