Chapter Text
Taking up teaching in UA, a lot of heroes mentally prepared themselves for months not only to handle different situations and rowdy teenagers with crazy quirks, but also the dreaded actual lessons in the curriculum, headaches, stress and repeated low grades on the same group of students. They learned to get used to it, embrace it even, all for the sake of a brighter future ahead.
But no matter all the preparation, there is one job even the bravest of heroes don’t want to take.
Secondary Gender Counselor. The three words that bring shudders to the ferocious teachers of UA.
It’s not that it’s a bad job per se. The job description states that you just have to talk to the students regarding their secondary gender-related problems and you get extra pay. Except that it is a gross understatement of what you actually have to do. There would be a bunch of alphas coming in complaining about one omega’s distracting scent or how some beta is trying to size them up. Sometimes, an occasional beta will come by and rant about how cocky alphas think they are better than the other secondary genders. A lot of times, omegas also come by to ask for some ‘heat items’.
And don’t even get started on when mating season comes up.
It’s a very stressful job with a pay that isn’t even worth the trouble and most busy heroes don’t want to deal with that. At least, that’s how it is for Aizawa. Although he never really thought too much about it considering that Recovery Girl usually is the counselor for all the year levels in the school.
He’s just not fit for that kind of thing.
--
It was a chilly Monday afternoon when Principal Nezu called for a faculty meeting. Aizawa was tired out of his mind. He didn’t really want to deal with this right now. Still, he begrudgingly walked to the meeting room, bringing his sleeping bag with him.
He was the last to arrive, all the first year teachers already chatting without him. The hero sat down on his usual seat in between All Might and Vlad. He noticed that Principal Nezu and Recovery Girl were whispering among themselves, a solemn look was plastered among their faces. When the principal noticed that everyone has arrived, he silenced the table and began the meeting, the remnants of the solemn look still etched on his eyebrows.
“So, this might be unfortunate news for most of you but,” The principal gazed on Shuzenji, urging her to continue. An anxious air filled the room as she took a breath and started talking. “I’m quitting my role as the Secondary Gender Counselor of the first years.”
A chorus of distressed what’s and why’s filled the room. Worry dawned upon the teachers like a wave, because if Recovery Girl quitted then-
“Well, Shuzenji-san definitely needed a decrease of workload since she is still the nurse and counselor for the remaining year levels. As for the person who’ll take up the role,” an evil glint flashed on Principal Nezu’s eyes while he smirked making Aizawa gulp. This is not good. “We draw lots!”
“Principal, I don’t think that’s the best way to choose such a delicate position.” All Might spoke up beside Aizawa. “The government has issued a standard for this type of role and we can’t really just choose like th-“
“Well, none of you really fit in to the standard of ‘calm and approachable beta’ so this’ll do and we’ll see what the students think about it.” The High Spec hero chuckled. He then proceeded to pull out a bunch of sticks and asked everyone to gather around to pick one. “The one who picks the shortest stick gets to take up the role.”
Aizawa scoffed, what a waste of time. Besides, the chance of him actually getting the role is one out of ten. He quickly grabbed the first stick his finger touched while thinking of his cat back at his apartment.
So, Aizawa stood corrected.
The beta teacher stared at the short stick that he managed to pull out and can feel very bad things coming ahead of him.
Seeing the cursed stick on Aizawa’s hand, the other teachers visibly relaxed while Principal Nezu clasped his hands together. “Congratulations, Aizawa-san! You’re the new Secondary Gender Counselor for the first years!”
Gosh, he needs to restock his wine for this one.
--
Principal Nezu had set up his new little office the next day. It was a simple room. There was a desk in the middle with a high tech pc on it as well as a potted plant that’ll probably die in a few days under Aizawa’s care. The chair they gave him was comfy and probably his favourite part of the office. There are also two loveseats for the counselling sessions that would take place. Lastly, they provided him with a huge cabinet filled with standard stuff that comes with this job; alpha restraining medicine, guide books and the like. All in all, it was a pretty nice place to be in.
Eraserhead’s first job was given to him that same day. He was supposed to interview all the first year students that have already presented. In fact, there were only two students in the entirety of the first years that haven’t presented yet, Aoyama Yuuga and Monoma Neito. Since he obviously can’t finish interviewing everyone in one day, the students are grouped into five that he’ll interview during the day. He is still the homeroom teacher of 1-A and has a lot more stuff to do.
It was just after lunch and he was already sighing in annoyance. Aizawa woke up grouchy from his morning nap today because he forgot to bring his sleeping bag with him. When he went to the cafeteria for some food, he found out that they ran out of his favourite breaded pork. It was already a bad day and now he has to interview five of his students. He gazed at the list of students again and felt a head ache coming.
Kaminari Denki
Mineta Minoru
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
Bakugo Katsuki
Hatsume Mei
Aizawa concluded that the Universe hated him.
--
Kaminari entered his office almost looking as unenthusiastic as Aizawa, which was a feat in itself. He gestured for the boy to sit down as he prepared the dreaded questions he’d have to ask his student.
“So,” Kaminari started as he smiled sheepishly. “What exactly am I supposed to do here?” Aizawa groaned for the nth time today. “Just answer my questions and we won’t have a problem.”
Aizawa flipped through his questions as he started the interview. “So you’re Kaminari Denki from Class 1-A, 15 years old and an Alpha?”
“Uh, I think you know the answer to that?”
“Just answer the goddamn question, Kaminari.”
“Yes, sir!”
“Have you ever felt conflicted with the secondary gender you presented with?”
“Um, not really?”
“Yes or no.”
“N-no.”
“ What is your preference in terms of their primary gender?”
“Oh, you mean like if I prefer girls or boys?”
Aizawa nodded.
“Girls, definitely. I mean it’s not that I have anything against gays. I have tons of gay friends and-“
“I didn’t ask you to elaborate.”
“Right, what’s next then?”
“What is your preference in terms of their secondary gender?”
Kaminari visibly hesitated at the question, taking his time to think of a proper response. Aizawa’s glad he’s actually taking this seriously and not making any stupid jokes but he has a time limit, for god’s sake.
“Go on.” Aizawa feels his patience running thin.
“I like alphas, maybe. I know it’s not really common but, I- I just feel that way.”
“I see, is it because of one specific person or-“
“D-dude! How did you know?” Kaminari sputtered.
“Because you just exposed yourself mere seconds ago. And don’t call me dude.” Aizawa was getting more tired by the second. And this was only the first interview of the day. Still, he continued.
“Moving on, are you sexually active?”
From embarrassed, Kaminari’s expression became sunken. “What do you think, sensei?”
“I’ll take that as a no. Do you have ruts regularly or do you use suppressants?”
“I have ruts regularly. My parents don’t really like the idea of suppressants.”
“Have your ruts ever been triggered by an external factor? Please elaborate for this one.”
Kaminari scrunched up his eyebrows. “Actually, now that I think about it, that one time with Jir-“ The boy immediately clasped a hand on his mouth which made Aizawa roll his eyes.
Jirou Kyouka. According to the records, she is also an alpha.
The blond started waving his hand in front of his face as if it would make his embarrassment go away. “A-anyway, my rut was once triggered by the extremely dominant smell of an alpha. I haven’t really realized it until now.”
“Hm, that’s weird.” Aizawa mused to himself. “What? Why?” The blonde’s head shot up in concern. “Well, alphas are naturally inclined to react sexually to omega scents, so for you to react that way to an alpha is strange. It might be because of an hormonal imbalance or something, which might pose as a health hazard. I suggest you go consult Recovery Girl about this.”
“Wow, you talk about this pretty well, sensei. You’re really goo-“ Kaminari’s smiling face comically morphed to horror. “Wait, health hazard? Like is it deadly or something?”
“Time’s up.” The teacher looked at his watch. “Better find out for yourself, kid.”
Kaminari stood up in a hurry, quickly saying a ‘thanks’ before leaving the room. Aizawa sighed, feeling much more tired in the 15 minutes he talked to the electric boy. He checked his list on who’s the dreaded kid who’ll come up next.
Oh no.
The door to his office creepily creaked for no apparent reason, giving the student’s entry a much more scary vibe. Purple hair peeked out from the door as a short boy slowly entered.
“Hello, sensei.”
Mineta Minoru.
Aizawa wondered how much of a bad person he was in his past life to have deserved this.
