Smile To Hide The Pain

Chapter 12: Home is Where the Heart Is

Summary:

🥺 Wangxian talks.

Notes:

I finally finished watching the second season of the anime and patiently waiting for S3. Fellas, is it gay if you, a highly respected cultivator in the world, get on your knees and respect a demonic cultivator, and said demonic cultivator shrugging it off like it’s nothing 🤔🤔??

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

It took a few hours for the crew to professionally bury the body of Xingchen, give him a proper funeral, head back to the inn so the adults can retrieve their items, and return to the peaceful town of Heping. The sun was setting when they returned, but the town was still bustling with everyday life. In fact, the liveliness only grew when the townsfolk noticed the enchanting beauty waltzing through town with adorably long pigtails and wearing common folk clothing. They lovingly sighed at the sight. Their Goddess returned safe and sound, beautiful as ever, even in mediocre clothing.

“EVERYONE! HE’S BACK!” Even more heads turned, and Wèi Wuxian was immediately greeted by his new family. Children and all came running over in excitement to gather around him and Wangji to pester him about his recent adventures. The group stayed in place as Wèi Ying addressed every kid with a greeting and head pat, including the teens. His greeting ceased when he noticed Mianmian sitting on the porch of the inn. The inn where usually negotiations and important information was settled. She simply stood from her sitting position and walked inside. He stood up and promised them he’ll see them later, squishing a child’s cheeks when they pouted. He turned to the group, knowing they will follow him inside.

As he walked, he detected too many steps following behind him and turned around. Not only were the sect leaders and Wangji followed him, but also the Lan disciples! He took a step forward, they took a step forward. He let out a chuckle, oblivious to the dreamy sighs around him. His heart was flustered, in thinking of these disciples being nothing but cute baby chicks. He went towards the group, noticing how they started to scramble and push each other. Lan Sizhui ended up being in front of the crew, and the rest screamed when he was pulled into a motherly hug. ‘

‘That wasn’t supposed to happen! It should’ve been me getting the hug!’

Lan Sizhui felt his knees buckle at the familiarity of the hug. The touch, the gentle caress on his hair, the obvious love this man expressed for him, it was all familiar. For once, Sizhui truly felt at home again. He understood why his father waited years for his love to return. Wèi Wuxian was a source that will never be replaced. The mom who took care of him when his parents were no more.

“I know you guys want to join along, but the adults have to talk about what we learned…” An idea appeared in his mind.

“Jin Ling,” The boy in the yellow robes quickly glanced at him when his name was called, like an excited dog. Wèi Wuxian observed him while thinking over his thoughts.

‘If this plan comes out successful, then Jin Ling would most likely become the new sect leader of the Jin sect. It’s better if he knew how negotiations and alliances are handled now then later.’ He was still grooming Sizhui’s hair when he glanced at his br- the sect leader of Lotus Pier. Jiang Cheng noticed his gaze and stared back, his pupils exerting no fire in them. Yet, it still held the intelligence as it seemed he understood why Jin Ling was called. Jiang Cheng called his nephew over to join them, and Ying gently pushed away the clingy Sizhui to continue the walk to the inn, the important ones following him.

Mianmian wasn’t claimed as the leader of the town for nothing. One close glance at the mysterious person wearing a black veil, and she was pointing a finger asking why that criminal was in their town. Xue Yang explained everything. Starting from his plan to lure Wèi Wuxian to him, exposing the truths of the past, to finally telling her about the Jin Sect holding a Banquet in a few days. Mianmian, in a full straight and powerful posture, barely blinked at the revealing information. One of her eyebrows rose up as if to say, ‘Okay, and? I always knew Wei Wuxian was innocent, and those Jins were snakes.’ The look on her face, Hanguang-Jun actually snorting, and Huaisang glancing at her in a way of saying, ‘I fucking know right,’ made Lan Xichen and Jiang Cheng squirm in embarrassment, and Ling sit there confused.

The rest of the conference continued in a discussion of the creation of a plan. A plan to somehow expose Jin GuangYao and the Jin sect for its horrendous crimes that have been committed years ago. Expose them to the public, so everyone (who still doubts Wei Wuxian’s innocence) would truly see the evil mastermind who framed their precious Goddess.

The end results sound appetizingly pleasing, something worth fighting for; an amazing ending to prove just how pure and wholesome Wei Wuxian was. Except, it was quite a struggle for them to properly form a plan. Yes, they want the world to see Wei Wuxian’s elegant skills but what would that accomplish? How would they be able to sneak around, especially with Xue Yang on Jin lands?

Mianmian decided to end the meeting there, claiming how the long journey and mass amount of information possibly left them too fatigued to brainstorm.

Wei Ying was first to stand up. Mianmian, Xue Yang, and Huaisang weren’t a fool to the slight blush on his cheeks as he dragged (if you would call it) Lan Wangji out of the room. How adorable. The dark and icy cold Hanguang-Jun of Gusu-Lan, letting himself be dragged by a man smaller than him. Xue Yang calling Wei Ying a twink made Huaisang fan himself with glee, Mianmian madly cackling, and Cheng and Xichen spitting out their served tea while Jin Ling continued being an innocent baby. Between the three of them, they know their precious friend was off to talk to his future lover. Yes, that unstable yet handsome man Wei Wuxian had always loved. They knew he was the only one to help Hanguang-Jun from the dark shackles containing his heart.

Lan Wangji noticed several disciples and townsfolk giving them confused looks as they headed towards the gate. He did not blame their curiosity. He was letting himself be dragged by his adorable love, who seemed to be in a hurry, yet his small legs could walk fast enough for Wangji to instantly catch up. Wangji felt his heart swell; Wei Ying was truly a pure jewel. He let himself continue being dragged while daydreaming about the one in front of him. Before he knew it, hands were pushing at his chest, and Ying was murmuring for him to sit down. He did rightfully so, no hesitation to follow his partner’s orders. Being comfortable, Wangji took in the environment he was in. It was rare for him to never be observant of his surroundings. Wangji’s only excuse was his deep trust in Wei Ying to lower his guard and relax.

He was sitting on the grass filled with the blossom of flowers, close to the sparkling water connected to the splashing waterfall. Bunnies hopped and tumbled everywhere, some gathering around him to determine if he was friend or foe. He was a friend, and they all hopped and bumped onto his legs. A black chunky one landed on his lap, curling into itself and snoozing.

The sound of a door closing made Wangji notice the little cottage nearby. Wei Wuxian left from it, giving a resting donkey an apple before walking towards his direction. Wangji noticed himself gulping, once again transfixed at the sight of Wei Wuxian. His hair was no longer in pigtails, now pulled up into an adorably messy bun with a few strands hanging in front of his face. His walk would've been classified as normal, but the tight mid-thigh robe showing the slight twist of his hips and beautifully tanned delicate legs walking forward made it far more than normal. A small smile graced on his perfect face while he played through the bunnies, and Wangji couldn’t help but forever remember this moment. The bluish night sky sparkled and twinked with stars, making Wei Ying’s skin shine bright as he played.

He was literally glowing, and Wangji truly believed Wei Ying was an Empress of the Forest. He belonged with the environment of nature, no worries of the cultivation world, being one with the town of Heping, and the creatures on this magical land.

Wangji wondered…

He told himself he would drag Wei Wuxian to Gusu, no matter what. But...would it be a crime for him to go to Wèi Wuxian instead? To forever see that joyous smile on his beautiful face...instead of the tears of having to leave his new family and home...to go to the place filled with judgmental cultivators… The cultivators who spoke heavily ill of him, before Wangji had to take a stand… This...was a thought Wangji never thought of...and, surprisingly, he was intrigued.

“It seems history would always repeat itself, Lan Zhan. Even now, as grown adults, we’re together with bunnies.” The icy cold heart was thumping so loudly at the dreamy smile sent his way. The bunnies scattered about to let their giant friend take a seat on the grass, in front of Lan Zhan, then pounced on his bare legs for affection. Bunnies and Wei Ying...a perfect combination to make Wangji completely love-struck.

The man who just didn’t know how much he was affecting Wangji, shyly looked at him after placing a lucky white fluffy bunny on his lap.

“Sorry for dragging you, Lan Zhan. I...just wanted us to talk...about us.” The cultivator completely yearned for this side of Wei Ying, so shy and precious. There were times he was shy in the past, but those moments always brought back the gruesome conflicts of war.

Wei Ying! Come back to Gusu with me!’

‘For what reason Lan Zhan? To lock me up and punish me for my crimes for going the crooked path?’

Nightless City.

‘I knew we would fight one day, Lan Zhan.’

His death.

‘Lan Zhan, I always liked you. More than what you think. More than just friends…’

“Lan Zhan, there must have been a misunderstanding about our past relationship, hm?” The question shook him out of his thoughts. Did Wei Ying understand it was a full misunderstanding? A misunderstanding built upon the lack of communication?

“Wei Ying…It was a misunderstanding. I did not want to take you back to Gusu to punish you. I wanted to take you back to protect you, keep you safe. Never despised or hated you...was confused...hurt...thought you didn’t like me anymore.”

Wei Ying opened his mouth to speak, but a look from Wangji made him be patient. Wangji continued, petting the head of the black bunny.

“The rumors of our relationship, hating each other, was false. I would never hate you. Only love, love you too much...Should’ve proven it, but instead, I walked away, made you assume I did not appreciate your presence or lively jokes. Realized I should’ve been more open...I should’ve been there to help you while the dark spirits and cultivators tore you down. I failed you, Wei Ying. Now that you’re back, I can’t let you go. I love you too much. You know how far I would go for you.”

A flashback of Wangji slashing Junjie Wei, a man who’s thankfully resting in the medical inn, appeared in his mind. That night brought shivers down his spine every time. An open wide example of how far Wangji would go for him. An example of how much he had changed. It frightened him at first, but spending the last few days with Lan Zhan, the man being by his side, complimenting him, caring for him, protecting him, making him feel like an actual Goddess. This man was different from everyone else who worshipped him. Yes, the admiration was all pure, and he believed them, but Lan Zhan was different.

Lan Zhan was the only one in the cultivation world who was there for him when everyone, no, the entire world, turned their backs to him. Lan Zhan didn’t show a hint of remorse or fear, just his normal blank expression. He will never forget the time he and A-Yuan dined with Lan Zhan, like a happy family. Then, the handsome man helped him subdue Wen Ning to consciousness. Oh, Lan Zhan. How dare he assume this righteous man would punish and torture him. After all the songs he created and sang for his weak mental estate. Lan Zhan will never. Lan Zhan was so frighteningly amazing. How could he ever throw away his feelings from years ago! How could he ever move on from Lan Zhan!

Oh, Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

Lan Zhan!

“Oh~, Lan Zhan!” Wangji blinked in shock at the moan of his name slipping from Wei Ying’s lips. He was not expecting to hear such an alluring sound. It was beautiful, it was loud, it sounded so sugary sweet, like honey, it was an addiction. Wei Ying was his addiction; he wants more

“Wei Ying?”

“Lan Zhan, I’m so sorry for snapping at you back then. I truly thought you wanted to punish me for going the crooked path. Well, you know already, but I truly didn’t have a choice, haha~”

Wangji hummed. “I understand. You wanted to protect those precious to you. You sacrificed everything to keep your loved ones safe.” Wèi Ying gasped when Wangji positioned himself on his knees, lowering his torso onto the grass, forehead touching nature.

“You’re the most righteous man I know, Wei Wuxian. You’re honorable and inspiring.”

“Lan Zhan!” His face was grabbed by rough fingers, and he looked at the embarrassed look on Ying’s face. What truly made him stare, was the deep blush on those cheeks, and the sparkles in those eyes. Wangji could see hearts formed in those grey eyes.

“L-Lan Zhan, I’m the one who should be bowing to you! You were the only one who cared about me! The only one who protected me no matter how bad your reputation would look! L-Lan Zhan, I have one question for you.” Wangji was sitting normally while waiting for his love to ask away.

“Lan Sizhui. Is...is that-“

“Mm, he’s A-Yuan. Found him in the tree bark at the Burial Ground. He lost his memories, but regained them after I told him the stories of you and his family.” He finished his sentence with a startle as a force was strong enough to make him fall back into the water. Him opening his eyes made him see a fully wet Wei Ying on top of him with a sickenly loving expression. He was severely flushed, and Wangji would’ve assumed he possibly looked the same. He couldn’t help it. Wei Ying’s small yet muscular build fit so well on top of him. The robe was now loose and fallen off his shoulders, presenting him Ying in a now wet silk gown, erect nipples poking through the thin cloth. The squirming and wiggling as Wei Ying brought his head closer to his. Lips so close that he can feel Ying’s breath on his.

“Lan Zhan~, you have every right to be how you are. I’m yours, ever since we met at Gusu. I’m yours, always have been. You’re so good to me.”

“Wei Ying.” His hands gripped those plush hips, making Wei Ying squeal.

“Ah~, yes Wangji! So possessive! Wangji, I’m yours, and you’re mine. There’s no need for you to hurt anyone again. Even if they speak ill of me, only your opinion matters to me. You truly make me feel beautiful like I’m actually worth living and not a burden! Thank you, Lan Zhan!”

His cries were sucked up by strong and forceful lips. A kiss! Wangji was actually kissing him! His eyes rolled back as the arousal pooled in his stomach. The loud smacking, Wangji’s groans while he devoured his mouth with his tongue, a tight grip on his hips bound to leave bruises, the soft grinding to feel Wangji’s erection, proof of his love for him. Wei Ying was going crazy! He wants Lan Zhan to devour him! Make him a mess, fuck him silly! Make him submit! Something he hadn’t done in so long! He wants Wangji to control him while he loses himself in pleasure, pain, and the bond of their love! He wants to feel it so badly! Deep inside him! Only Lan Zhan, no one else but him! He loves him!

They broke away to heavily gather air; a string of spit connected between them. Their eyes were interlocked, in a trance, frozen in place, in the water, underneath the twinkling star.

Wei Wuxian. He let out a heartfelt genuine teary smile. Yes, Heping was his new home with a new family, new friends, old friends,

But his real home...was Lan Wangji.

“Lan Zhan, please make love to me.”

Lan Wangji smiled. A smile Wei Wuxian would forever cherish deep in his heart.

“Mn, anything for my one and only.”

The black and white bunnies snuggled together as the night continued. Two lovers, together, and one with nature.
