Chapter Text
Izuku wakes up to a dim infirmary. Antiseptic burns his nose, the dark soothes his aching eyes.
He can tell he’s been pumped full of painkillers. The skin in contact with the bed he’s on doesn’t feel like it’s being stabbed by white-hot knives.
His ears ring. The buzz of machines drills into his head. It takes him a few minutes to realize that someone else is in the room.
Turning his head, he stares at a silent Midnight. She stares at him, no doubt having trouble seeing in the dark room.
No words are spoken. Izuku looks at the ceiling and closes his eyes.

After Izuku wakes up a second time, he’s asked to explain his sensory Quirks. He tells them.
He doesn’t look up from his feet during his explanation. He acts like he doesn’t hear the surprise when he explains Paper Skin and other Quirks.
When he finishes, he’s shuffled back to his room. The lights are off and his nose registers strong chemicals and an underlying hint of metal.
Blood King and Midnight stand just inside his doorway. He lingers awkwardly by the desk, watching them through narrowed eyes.
“We had your room and belongings cleaned,” Blood King states bluntly. Midnights slumps minutely in relief. If Izuku hadn’t been watching and waiting for movement he would have missed it.
The room dissolves back into silence. Neither party moves or speaks. Izuku’s eyes glow dimly in the darkened room, one of his favored intimidation Quirks on the lower setting. His mouth sets into a thin frown.
“Midoriya, we wanted to let you know that you can always come to us,” Midnight tentatively puts forward. She takes a step closer, angling her body diagonally. Her dominant hand is closest to Blood King and hovering near her whip. Izuku’s eyes narrow to small slits, the glow intensifying and blocking out sight of his irises.
Both Izuku and Midnight know he’s not going to take that offer up.
Blood King places a hand on Midnight’s shoulder and gives her a look. She steps back after a few intense seconds of staring. Izuku wonders what conversation they’re having.
“By Recovery Girl’s request, you are scheduled with UA’s licensed counselor. We are also having you talk with a licensed professional who specializes in children and child abuse. You may not back out of this. All attempts to avoid or otherwise not participate in these activities will result in immediate handover of custody to the Musutafu Police Department, yada yada yada. You get the point. Hound Dog and the specialist will explain more about your appointments when you first meet with them. Get some rest, it’s been a stressful few days for all of us,” Blood King says. Midnight gives him a look, Izuku thinks there’s some anger or surprise in it.
Izuku stares at them. The heroes make no move to go further into Izuku’s living space. Izuku makes no move to sit down or turn his attention away from them.
“Whatever, kid. We’ll see you tomorrow. Aizawa’s got a healing session with Recovery Girl so we’re supervising your Sports Fest prep. Get some rest, we’re not going easy on you,” Midnight opens the door and pulls Blood King with her before Izuku could respond, not that he wanted to.
Izuku slumps into his desk chair. The lock clicks and he breathes in.
Life is getting more and more complicated.

Has shown an unusual aptitude for quick-thinking and hand-to-hand. Further monitoring required. Has also shown a desire for affection and an easy time making connections with those around him. Desire for affection is to be used and manipulated as often as possible to make him reliant on his handler(s). -Doctor Tsubasa
Little brat is good at dodging. A cunning and quick mind, needs to be curbed. Shows an impressive independent streak but relies heavily on others. Behavioral adjustment requested but denied. All for One’s reasoning was that he wanted to see just how rebellious his bastard could get. Recommend heavy use of corporal punishment and strict discipline, our leader may not want his brat turning out a brain-dead lackey, but it’s better to have an intelligent superhuman fearful of those around him. -Doctor Arataka
