Chapter Text

Midterms week was like living hell on earth. Everyone was so riled up for the upcoming break, that it made focusing on studying near impossible. Studying felt torturous, even. That being said, Kyoutani was lucky to have Yachi as a friend during these trying times. She was a pro at getting rid of distractions and focusing on the work at hand. He couldn’t say the same for his other housemates though, especially Hinata who was too preoccupied with finalizing all the spring break plans that Kyoutani is pretty sure that he just forgot to study all together.

As that horrid week passed by, Kyoutani found himself almost as excited as the others for spring break. He was a bit wary of the amount of people coming, but knew he’d probably have fun regardless. There were a total of 4 cars full of people coming along for this spring break adventure. Kyoutani only really knew the people coming along in the car he was riding in, as well as everyone that was coming in Iwaizumi’s car. Everyone ended up deciding they wanted this to be an overnight thing, and Hinata was somehow able to get a group discount deal at a nearby beach hotel for all of them. They got rooms for 2 nights and 3 days, what they were going to do for 3 whole days down by the beach, Kyoutani had no idea. Knowing his roommates, they’d probably end up just wanting to play beach volleyball the entire time. There were other attractions though, such as the ocean itself (if the water was warm enough), and nearby hiking trails. He was also told that someone coming in one of the other cars mentioned renting barbeque equipment and having a small cookout on the beach. Even with a number of things to do, Kyoutani still thought that 3 days was excessive, but he seemed to be the only one with that mindset.

With the last of the midterms ending on a Friday, they were all set to depart for the beach on that following Monday. It was a couple hours drive to the coast, so they all planned to leave sometime between 8-9am, with check-in at the hotel beginning at 11am. Although they still had to leave relatively early, it wasn’t as bad as when they left for their new years trip. It still took some effort to get Lev and Kageyama out of the apartment on time, Hinata was surprisingly ready to go on time. Kiyoko was able to borrow her family’s van and was kind enough to drive them all there.  After double and triple checking that they had everything they needed, they all piled into the van. Kiyoko was in the driver’s seat, with Yachi sitting in the passenger. Lev and Kyoutani sat in the two seats behind the driver and passenger, while everyone else piled into the three back seats, Hinata sitting in the middle between Kageyama and Kenma. They ended up leaving at around 9:30am, and were most likely going to be the last group to arrive.

“Alright everyone, looks like it’ll be about a 3 hour drive. There’s some rest stops along the way in case anyone needs to get out and stretch or use the restroom.” Kiyoko said as she finished setting up the GPS, pulling away from the curb and starting the drive.

“Ooh! Who wants to play I Spy?!” Lev exclaimed, looking around at everyone in the car.

“Me!” Hinata shouted back, earning him a shove from Kageyama who was still waking up and didn’t appreciate the extra noise.

“That sounds fun, I wouldn’t mind joining in” Yachi chirped from the front seat.

Kenma had his PSP out already and was starting up a game, and Kyoutani turned to face away from the noise, taking his headphones out. After being only 30 minutes into the drive, Kyoutani realized that his headphones alone would not be able to block out all the noise that Lev, Hinata, and in turn Kageyama, were making. Kyoutani was honestly amazed at how much noise someone could make by playing ‘I Spy’, but apparently Lev kept changing what it was that he was ‘I-Spying’, and it would insight a heated argument here and there.  By the time they made it to the rest stop, they’d played a stupid amount of ‘I-Spy’, and Lev tried to ask some riddles but they were all pretty easy to figure out. There were also a number of (polite) interventions from Kiyoko for them to pipe down so that she could drive in relative peace. When they arrived at the rest area, they were now only an hour and a half away from the coast.  After everyone used the bathroom and got up and stretched a bit, this decidedly made the second half of the trip a lot louder. Lev and Hinata kept singing campy road-trip songs, with Kageyama yelling at them to shut up. Kenma looked upset at all the noise, but was keeping himself distracted enough with his games. Kyoutani, on the other hand, has about had it.

“Oooooh, you’ve got 99 bottles of milk on the wall, 99 bottles of miiiiiilk-”

“I swear to fucking god if you start singing this same fucking song one more time, I will end you, and yes this is a threat” Kyoutani cut Lev and Hinata off sharply.

They both shut their mouths and nodded, turning their heads to silently look out the window. Kiyoko looked back at Kyoutani and mouthed a silent ‘thank you’. The remainder of the drive after that was relatively calm, with idle chit-chat here and there which was much more welcome than the obnoxious singing.

They ended up arriving at the hotel at around 11:45am, and to no one's surprise they were the last to arrive. Everyone else was already parked, and loitering by a couple benches in front of the hotel. After parking, they all filed out of the car and started grabbing their belongings. Hinata was very obviously giddy and ready to start off this beach adventure. He hurriedly grabbed all his bags and ran over to where everyone was, Kageyama calling after him to wait up but to no success.

“Sorry we’re late!” Hinata exclaimed once he reached everyone else.

“No worries, we only got here about 15 minutes ago,” Daichi said from where he was seated on the bench, next to Suga and Asahi.

There were 21 people there total. Daichi, Suga, Asahi, Tanaka, and Nishinoya all came in one car. Iwaizumi, Oikawa, Matsukawa, Hanamaki, and Yahaba all came in another. And lastly, Kuroo, Bokuto, Akaashi, and Inuoka were there as well. Kyoutani was a bit surprised to see this group, as he knew Kuroo and Bokuto were friends of Iwaizumi and Oikawa, but he had no idea how they knew everyone else. From watching the way everyone interacted, he noticed quickly that Kuroo and Bokuto were very chummy with Daichi, who Kyoutani also didn’t know well but he at least knew that him and the people who came in his car were friends with Hinata and Kageyama.

Once everyone was in the hotel, they did a round of introductions for those who didn’t know some of the others, and then it came down to room placements. For the rooms they booked there was room for about 4 people in each room, although some would have to share a bed. Kiyoko ended up booking a room for her and Yachi that was separate from the group discount that Hinata booked the rooms for.

After some light arguing, they decided to split the rooms accordingly: Hinata, Kageyama, Tanaka, and Nishinoya in one room. Iwaizumi, Oikawa, Matsukawa, and Hanamaki in another. Daichi, Suga, and Asahi were the only room with just three people. Bokuto, Akaashi, Kuroo, and Kenma were a room combo that surprised Kyoutani. He didn’t know that Kenma knew Kuroo, or Bokuto and Akaashi for that matter, but then again he didn’t know much about Kenma to begin with. Yachi and Kiyoko obviously had their room already, so that left Kyoutani sharing a room with Yahaba, Inuoka, and Lev.

He didn’t know how he felt about who he was rooming with, but it was better than being thrown into Hinata’s room (because throwing all of the loud people into one room was surely a good idea.) After getting and passing out all the room keys, everyone started to gather their bags and trek off to their rooms.

“Alright everyone, let’s quickly unpack and head down to the beach! Time to get this spring break started!” Hinata whooped and hollard, before sprinting off.
