Chapter Text
Shoto clicked a pen in his hand. He and Uraraka sat in front of the small table in his room, scribbling furiously at a piece of paper, presumably for one of Midnight’s eccentric art assignments.
"You know, Todoroki, when I first met you, I thought you were really stuck up," Uraraka remarked, uncapping a marker and drawing on the paper in front of her.
"You thought that...? why?" Shoto asked her, uncapping a marker of his own and joining Uraraka's drawing. Shoto sighed. "...midnight always gives us the weirdest art assignments."
"I agree, a collaborative drawing in pairs of anything we want? Kinda ambiguous," Uraraka tapped her chin, deciding to draw a little cat in the corner of the paper. "I was under the impression that you thought you were too good to talk to the rest of the class, or something."
"I see," Shoto said, kind of seeing her reasoning, but also sparking a question in his mind. "Is that really how people see me?"
Uraraka shrugged, scribbling out the cat she had previously drawn.
"No, probably not. I was also definitely jealous of your family's money which made me see everything about you in a negative way. Which is really shallow of me, sorry."
"It's fine, honestly. I can see why someone would think that, I suppose my old man does make quite a bit," Shoto leaned back in his chair. “What do we even draw for this assignment…?”
"Maybe we should take a break and work on it later. We have the whole weekend till it's due, after all," Uraraka suggested, twiddling a pen in her hands before clicking it shut. "i think i understand now that having money doesn’t necessarily mean a family is healthy, especially after hearing about the ways that piece of shit acts. You’re actually not so bad."
"You know, Uraraka, I always thought you were sickeningly optimistic but you’re actually really cool. I have an idea, since it is a saturday, why don’t we head downtown?" Shoto offered, a clever idea forming in his mind as he thought back to a very special credit card he happened to have.
"I’m not sure if you’ve caught my drift, Todoroki, but I’m poor," Uraraka gave him a deadfaced look.
"Oh, you must have misunderstood me, Uraraka, because neither of us are paying," Shoto grinned manically as he opened a drawer and pulled out a credit card, showing Uraraka the name listed on it. "It's all on our good friend Enji Todoroki."
Uraraka's eyes widened, and then she smirked with him.
"You’re a mad bastard, Todoroki. let's go."
Uraraka and Todoroki got their permission forms signed rather quickly and were on their way to downtown Musutafu via train.
"So how much has he got on that thing, anyways?" Uraraka asked, still wearing her smirk.
"Uhhh, probably somewhere over 500,000," Todoroki explained, still wearing his own manic grin.
"Let's drain that puppy, then," Uraraka said as the pair stepped out of the train and into the downtown shopping center. The first shop that they encountered was a massive gaming store, in fact, one of the biggest gaming stores in Japan.
"I think class 1-A deserves a gaming system, but I can’t seem to choose which one would be best. What do you say, Uraraka?" Todoroki fake-pondered, urging his partner in crime.
"I say we just buy em' all, whaddya think?" Uraraka said, smiling at Todoroki. The pair walked out with at least 3 consoles, totalling at about 1,500$ spent.
Todoroki dragged Uraraka into Spencer’s not long after, buying out all of the shirts labeled 'dead inside'.
"The whole class can match," he said. "maybe then that Monoma guy will see what class is truly superior."
Uraraka nearly spat out her boba they had gotten on the way to Spencer's at that.
"PLEASE oh my god he’ll never have seen it coming when they come over for dinner!" Uraraka sputtered, covering her mouth.
"This one might be more personal to you, but maybe we can head over to a few stores to get some decor and stuff for your room? if you want? I noticed you didn’t have much to put in it during the room tour thing" Shoto offered, gesturing to the furniture and decor sector of the district.
"That... that’d be great, Todoroki. It’s really sweet of you to do that," Uraraka smiled more genuinely, and they sped off to the furniture store, ready to fuck up Endeavors credit card even worse. This was a more peaceful time during their outing, Shoto stayed mostly quiet, pointing out things Uraraka might like.
"If you want, I can help you paint your walls, too," Shoto said, as Uraraka examined some fairy lights. Uraraka looked back at Shoto, tears welling up in her eyes. "Ah-! sorry, did I upset you...?"
"You didn’t upset me at all, Todoroki. thank you, I’d really appreciate it."
The pair silently walked to the more industrial sector of the store they were in, content with each other's presence. Uraraka giggled as she picked out a pastel pink for her room.
"So... funny story. My father kind of forced this stylist pro guy to choose my whole wardrobe because he didn’t want me embarrassing him in public," Shoto explained, frowning at his collared shirt. “And you know… I'm kind of sick of it.”
"No kidding! Wait, you think our outing will be on the news? Paparazzi type beat?" Uraraka asked, giggling towards the end.
"You know, it probably will be on some news or tabloid thing. You think we should make a lasting impression and look cool?" Shoto asked, pointing to the jfashion/alt store he’d been eyeing for quite a few minutes.
"Fuck yeah! I hope Endeavor cries when he sees you on the news looking like an icon!" Uraraka grabbed his arm, running towards the store with him following behind her.
'is this... is this what it’s like to hang out with friends? is it always... so light and carefree...?' Shoto thought to himself, genuinely smiling as they entered the store.
Uraraka helped Shoto find some stuff that he personally liked AND would scare the shit out of Endeavor, along with picking out plenty of clothes for herself.
The two walked out in what Uraraka had dubbed their 'iconic fits' which Shoto didn’t quite understand, likely due to him being unfamiliar with a lot of social lingo, which he knew was something he wanted to change. Shoto heard a gasp and a camera shot from within the crowds of people, and that's how he knew he’d won.
'checkmate, Endeavor' Shoto grinned. His old man was gonna have a field day over this.
"Man, it’s getting kinda late. Mr. Aizawa wanted us back by 5:30, and it’s 4. we should finish up soon," Uraraka said, looking at the time on her phone.
"Alright, I have one last thing in mind though. Why don’t we pick up some dinner for everyone?" Shoto suggested, and Uraraka nearly bounced out of her shoes at that.
"Alright!!! We should tell them not to make dinner, then," Uraraka realized, opening her new phone to the group chat. Her old phone had simply been impractical. The damn thing LOOKED in decent condition, but it was dated. All she could really do is direct messages and call people. She couldn’t even be in the group chat because of it. Shoto would not allow it. He had the money and the means to get her a new phone, so that was exactly what he had done. She didn’t seem very tech privy to modern phones, but she was figuring it out.

And the next thing Shoto knew, he was bringing the staff of a denny's restaurant to UA in a limo. Shoto looked at Uraraka, and the two high fived.
"You know, I really did have fun today. Thanks for that, Todoroki."
"I had fun too. It was no problem. And if you want you can just call me Shoto. Todoroki feels too impersonal after today."
"Thanks for today, Shoto. You can call me Ochako then."
Class 1a ate dennys for dinner and laughed at the news when Shoto and Ochaco appeared under the caption "endeavors son goes emo?!"
Shoto thought to himself that night, about how he felt about the day. He felt so... light? Was this what being with friends felt like? Shoto wanted to feel it again, for sure.
