we don’t want you getting hurt

Chapter 4: 4

Notes:

Tw// crying, lack of confidence, hospitals, pain meds

(I’m going to start a series of things that happened during the time it took to recover ((including the kittens being born)) soon)

Chapter Text

Unfortunately due to the extent of Izuku’s injury (and due to the fact that with age her quirk has weakened a bit), Recovery Girl was only able to fix his severe break to a fracture. So that mixed with the concussion meant he was still in for a recovery time of at least 8 weeks. When Izuku found this out he had a sinking feeling in his stomach. He did not want to have to tell his agency about this, but he was going to be leaving the hospital within the next couple hours so he decided he might as well get it over with.

So far the call was not going so well.

“But i have dedicated so much of my time and energy to this agency and you are just going to get rid of me because I got hurt working for you?” He said into the phone as tears pricked into his eyes.

Tenya gave shouto a look as he packed the few things they had brought Izuku for his hospital stay into a bag. Shouto let out a sigh and got up from the chair he was sitting in and sat on the bed next to where izuku was laying and ran his fingers softly through his hair. “Izu, stress isn’t good for your concussion”

He looked down sadly, just deciding not to fight them, he lost his first job outside of highschool. “Okay, yes, I understand. Yes I will have anything that I have at the office picked up within the week, thanks” he said before he hung up the phone. Why did this have to happen? Why was he such a failure? Great and now he was crying again. God his head hurt. He was such a cry baby.

“Izuku it’s going to be okay, you’ll find another job”, Shouto said obviously trying to comfort him. But izuku still knew he was a failure. He was never meant to be a hero, why was he even trying. He quickly sat up, which of course caused his concussed self to get dizzy so he pretty much just collapsed right into Shouto’s side. “Izuku, it’s all going to be okay”, Shouto said as he wrapped his arms around him.

“I’m a failure,” Izuku said as he tightly gripped Shouto’s shirt as he cried into his shoulder.

Tenya finished packing up Izuku’s stuff and then joined them on the tiny hospital bed wrapping his arm around Izuku. “You are not a failure Izuku, this job simply just didn’t work out for you. There will be one that works.”

“But what if there isn’t what if I worked so hard to learn to control my quirk and it was all for nothing? What I can’t achieve the only dream I have ever had”

“Izuku, that’s not what's going to happen,” Tenya said as he soothingly rubbed his back. Then they heard a light knock at the door before it opened as Inko appeared in the door carrying bags full of fast food. When she entered she had a smile on her face which quickly faded when she saw her son crying. She gave Shouto and Tenya a questioning look, “His phone call with his agency didn’t go well”, He explained.

“Oh Izuku, I’m so sorry” She said. The only response she got was a sob. She sighed softly, she hated when her son was upset, but she also knew there wasn’t anything she could do to fix this situation no matter how much she wanted to. “Well I brought you all some food, I know how long it can take to actually be discharged, so I assumed you all would be here for awhile”.

“Thank you Inko”, Tenya said softly.

“My head hurts” Izuku mumbled into Shouto’s shoulder.

“How bad on a scale one through ten?” Tenya asked.

“Nine” Midoriya sobbed out. The pitiful way his voice sounded broke Tenya’s heart. He looked at Inko and Shouto and could tell they felt the same way.

“Okay, Inko, why don’t you have a seat in the extra chair”, he said before he stood up, “Izuku, I need you to work on trying to calm down a bit okay? These extreme emotions are definitely going to make the symptoms of your concussion worse. I am going to see if the nurse will give you some pain meds”.

Many hours and many pain meds later they finally got to bring a very loopy Izuku home. Due to his fractured knee he was going to be using a wheelchair for the next few weeks, which did not mix well with the fact that they were on the second level of an apartment without an elevator. Thankfully being able to lift and carry things/people was part of their job so it was pretty easy for Tenya to carry Midoriya up the stairs while Shouto bumped the chair up the stairs.

As they finally entered the front door Izuku snuggled into Tenya’s shoulder and muttered out a very slurred “I’m tired”.

“I know, you need some rest anyway, do you want me to take you to bed to take a nap?”

“I wanna cuddle”

Tenya sighed, why did he have to be so cute, “We can’t cuddle right now, Chibi has a vet appointment soon and then I have to pick up your prescriptions”. He said as he made his way to their room.

“What about Shouto?”

“He has to call our agencies to figure out a way for us to stay home with you for a while, then he has to to clean things up a bit to make it easier for you to get your chair through”.

“But i want cuddles”

Tenya let out a small laugh, before he laid Izuku on the bed, “We will cuddle later I promise”, he said before he kissed Izuku on the forehead.

For the most part the rest of the healing process for his fracture and his concussion went well. He was definitely a bit clingy and full of anxiety the whole time. But together the three of them got through it, and they even gained five new family members along the way. After nine weeks of nothing but resting the doctor finally gave him the okay to start looking for another job. Of course Izuku was scared. Failure has always been one of his biggest fears. But he knew it was going to be okay, because no matter what he had two supportive partners that would be there to help him along the way.

Notes:

I know in the last chapter I switch to calling them their first names, I didn't catch that till after it was published.
