Chapter Text
One of the only good parts of Izuku’s long recovery time was that the three of them got to spend a lot of time at home, and the good things about that is that they had a very very pregnant cat that was going to pop any day now, and they wouldn’t have to worry about not being there when the day finally came. Another one of the few good things was that the three of them got to sleep in. Which Shouto hated to admit he was pretty grateful for when he cracked open his eyes to look at the clock on the nightstand and saw that it was 7:00 am. Typically at this time at least one of the three of them would be getting up, but today they could all just relax.
He closed his eyes and gently moved closer to Izuku, making sure not to bump his fractured leg, taking note of his loud snores. The meds must have really knocked him out. He hardly ever snored. He tried to move his right leg back under the blanket as the cold air hit it but he ended up accidentally gently kicking a soft lump at the end of the bed. He peeked open an eye and softly lifted his head to see what he had hit, to see their large tabby cat, Chibi, staring back at him clearly offended. He chuckled lightly and softly apologized to the cat before closing his eyes and falling back asleep.
The next time he woke up he felt someone shaking him and calling his name softly. He quickly shot up, accidentally bumping his head against Tenya’s on the way up. “Shit”, he mumbled softly before quickly putting his hand up to his head, before he looked up a glassesless Tenya who was doing the same thing with his hand, “Sorry Ten”, He said before handing him his glasses from where they had fallen onto his lap.
“No.. My apologies.. I wasn’t thinking clearly.. I.. err..” Tenya started to say as his words rushed together as he tried to whisper. Izuku was still sleeping, and the doctor basically said he needs to get as much rest as possible for the next few weeks. So it was obvious Tenya was making an effort to not wake him up but he was still clearly overwhelmed.
“Is something wrong?”
“I… Chibi… Chibi..” He then let out a frustrated noise before taking a deep breath and then blowing it out, and then starting again, “I think Chibi is having her kittens”.
“What?!” Shouto said loudly, causing Izuku to stir next to him before he inevitably woke up. He looked up at his partners confused but didn’t say anything. “Are you sure?” Shouto asked.
“Well I had been suspecting it for the past half an hour or so, she had been going back and forth between her birthing box and her water dish repetitively, so I moved her water dish over to her and she seemed to calm for a bit. But then she started rummaging through the bedding, which the vet said was a sign and now she is visibly having contractions so I am fairly certain.”
“Wait Chibi is having her kittens?” Izuku asked excitedly.
“As I just said I believe so I am not 100% certain though-”
“Well we have to get out there” Izuku said as he started to try to scoot himself out of bed, still not used to the cast holding his knee at an angle.
“Do you want some help?” Tenya offered as Izuku clearly struggled.
“Please”.
The three then went out to the living room where Chibi’s birthing box was located. Izuku ended up on the couch, on the side closest to the birthing box while Shouto and Tenya stood in front of it. Shouto looked down at Chibi and noticed that she wasn’t acting the way she normally did at all. She was laying on her side and breathing heavily. If she wasn’t about to give birth clearly something else was wrong. Shouto bent down and softly pet Chibi’s head and she softly rubbed the side of her face against his hand. “How long has she been acting like this Ten?”
Tenya bent down next to him to be at the cat’s level, “Like I said she has been acting off since I woke up, so about..” He paused to look at his digital watch, “forty five minutes ago, but she started doing this specifically not too long ago”
“Do you remember what the vet said to do during this part?”
“Well- I -” Tenya stopped clearly trying to think but it seemed like something was stopping him from getting the thoughts through.
“Did you write it down somewhere?” Izuku suggested from where he was sitting on the couch.
Tenya nodded his head pulling out his phone and opening his notes before Shouto gently took it out of his hand. In typical Tenya fashion the page was neatly organized with notes he had taken at the vet at the top and links to websites about cat birth at the bottom. Shouto looked over the notes and back at Chibi. She seemed to still be breathing heavily but now her stomach was moving weird and she looked to be in pain. After looking at the notes he decided she was having contractions, but those could apparently last for up to twenty four hours. He deeply sighed handing Tenya back his phone. “There is a chance we are going to be doing this for awhile, I think for now it's best to just keep an eye on her.”
“Oh?” Izuku questioned.
“Yeah, according to Tenya’s notes we could be stuck like this for up to 24 hours..” Shouto said, then he looked back to Tenya, “You feeling okay Tenya, I know you were pretty overwhelmed”.
“Yes I am fine. I apologize. I just wasn’t expecting this to happen at this very moment and I forgot everything I had learned when the anxiety hit” He said with a bit of a nervous tinge to his voice.
“Tenya, you know you don’t have to apologize for stuff like that” Shouto said as he grabbed Tenya’s hand.
“Yeah, and I don’t think any of us were expecting her to go into labor first thing in the morning”. Izuku added.
Tenya then smiled and looked down at his watch, “actually it is 11:30.. So I wouldn’t exactly call this first thing in the morning”.
The three laughed and Shouto looked back down at Chibi, “So, for now, one of us should stay with her and watch for changes. But we could go make some lunch….. If you think that’s a good idea” Shouto said looking back up at his partners.
“Yes, I think that would be a good idea. Izuku do you think you would be able to watch her while Shou and I make lunch?” Tenya said as he stood up.
“Yeah, I think so, if I start to feel…. Bleh I will call one of you in here” He said looking down at the cat.
So then they waited..
12:00: no changes
1:00 : no changes
2:00 : she seemed restless but for the most part no changes
3:00: no changes
4:00: no changes
5:00: nothing had changed too much, she did seem to be pushing a little bit, but for the most part, she was the same.
6:00: finally something changed
The three of them were on the couch next to the box, they were honestly starting to get worried that something was wrong, when they heard a loud meow come from Chibi. When they looked down they saw that the moment had clearly arrived and they hopped into action.
The three of them were honestly all filled with panic the whole time. But each of them took their role of either helping Chibi, cleaning the kittens, or examining the kittens after to make sure they were okay and to know their weights. And after forty five minutes they had one very exhausted cat and five very adorable kittens.
