Chapter Text
Felicity stood watching, with a smile on her face as Barry and Iris exchanged vows. The ceremony had been beautiful so far and she was really happy for her friends.
“If there is anyone here who feels these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.” The priest said. He waited for a beat and opened his mouth again.
Before he could speak, a beam of light shot out from the back of the church and disintegrated the man where he stood. “Peace is overrated.” A female voice, one altered by a voice modulator, said.
Everyone gasped in shock and turned to look at the source of the voice. They saw a small army dressed in black. They looked like some variation of a Nazi uniform. A blonde woman was flying above them, her face covered with a mask. Two men, clearly commanders of some kind flanked her. One, with a quiver strapped to his back, gestured and the army attacked.
Barry and Wally sprung into action, wanting to get all of the civilians out of the church. Kara moved to face off against the flying woman. Oliver walked as if to go head-to-head against the other archer. Sara and Alex both started towards the other masked leader, who had a sword strapped to his back.
The masked soldiers began firing their weapons. To everyone’s shock, the bullets were stopped in midair halfway to the crowd towards the church. Barry and Wally began evacuating civilians. Suddenly, the machine guns were ripped out of the hands of the soldiers and an invisible force turned the weapons on their owners.
“What are you-?” The masked archer started to yell.
Before he could finish, every machine gun, aimed at the invaders, began to fire. A hail of bullets, aimed at legs and other extremities, followed. Felicity had seized the guns, but she didn’t want to kill anyone, so she aimed low and not at any vital areas.
Most of the soldiers moved backwards, hoping to get out of the line of fire. The masked swordsman still attempted to fight Sara and Alex. Oliver exchanged a few arrows with the masked archer and Kara fought the flying blonde for a few moments. Everyone else watched, somewhat shocked, as guns emptied themselves into and around the unknown attackers. At one point, Kara knocked her opponent down, at which point the masked archer intervened and released a smoke bomb to cover their escape. When the smoke cleared, there were a few stragglers behind. Felicity used her powers to raise one of the guns that still had ammo in it and aimed it at them. She let out one shot, which hit a fleeing invader in the back as he ran away.
There were a few dead attackers on the ground, and Sara and Alex had managed to knock out the masked swordsman. With their enemies gone, the heroes retreated to Star Labs. After some conversation, the group to came to the conclusion that the attackers were breachers from another Earth, one where the Germans won World War II.
“Um, does anyone know what happened with the guns firing themselves?” Barry asked.
“They weren’t firing themselves.” Felicity said. “I was firing them. I can control metal, among other magnetism-related things.”
“Why did you open fire like that, though?” Alex asked.
“I’m Jewish. I think that explains why I might fire at Nazis. I did aim for their legs.” She said. “Also, they’re Nazis.”
“Uh, guys, do any of you know the woman that’s now standing in the Pipeline?” Wally asked, looking at one of the screens in the Cortex. Everyone moved over to look. Standing in the Pipeline, a few feet from the door where the masked swordsman was, stood a woman with red hair. She was also wearing a strange outfit with a red headdress.
“Wait, if she’s there, where’s-.” Felicity started to say when she felt a gust of air.
“Always so slow.” A man with a slight European accent said as he came to a stop next to Felicity.
She turned and saw everyone else was restrained before looking at the man who spoke. “What are you doing here?”
“I couldn’t let you have all the fun.” Pietro said. “We saw what happened.”
“Who the hell is this guy?” Barry asked, trying to get the handcuffs that dampened his powers off. “He’s not a speedster that I-.”
“You wouldn’t have met him, because he’s not a metahuman. This is my older brother, Pietro.” Felicity said. “And the woman in the Pipeline, talking to our....guest, is his twin, Wanda.” She pressed a button that allowed the audio and video from the Pipeline to played on one of the large screens.
“And why would I tell you anything?” The masked swordsman, who looked and sounded a lot like Tommy Merlyn, asked.
“Because, if you don’t answer, I’ll go into your mind and take the information I want anyway.” Wanda said.
“Yeah, sure.” He said in disbelief. “Everyone on this Earth is weak. You are going to die. Everyone you love, they are going to die badly. In ways that would give even monsters nightmares. I really wish that I could live to see it.” He reached into his mouth and pulled something out. A wave of red flowed out of Wanda’s hands and Tommy-X found that he couldn’t move his arm.
“You claim I’m weak, yet you are the one attempting to take your own life.” Wanda said. “Normally, I would apologize for how much this will hurt, but you don’t deserve it. As I said, I’m going to take the information I want.” Another wave of red mist came off her hands and Tommy-X started screaming.
“Felicity, you need to stop her.” Oliver said. “You can’t-.”
“Don’t ask me to do that, Oliver.” She said. “This isn’t Chase or Slade or Darhk, and I’m not going to stand here and act like I don’t want to do the exact same thing. This is a little more personal for me than it is for you. Wanda and Pietro’s mother is Romani. And our father is an Auschwitz survivor. Don’t ask me to show kindness to these people, even if one of them looks like Tommy.” This was something she'd been dreading for a while. She'd spent the last few years dreading the moment when she'd have to choose between what mattered to Felicity Smoak, and what mattered to Lorna Dane. She thought it would come in the form of her father's actions, not invaders from another earth.
Tommy-X suddenly stopped screaming. A moment later, he fell to the ground. Wanda walked away from his cell. Felicity waved an arm and everyone found themselves free of their restraints.
“Is dear old Dad on his way?” She asked her brother.
“I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me.” He said.
Wanda then walked into the Cortex. “Hello, Lorna.”
“That’s not my name anymore.” Felicity said. “What did you get from him?”
“Everything I could.” She said. “The flying woman, she is like this one.” She pointed to Kara. “I know you are not human. If I wanted to kill you, how do I do that?”
“I- why would you want to kill me?”
“I don’t. I want to kill someone like you, because she wants to invade this world and take it over and she must die. How do we kill her?” Wanda asked.
“Let’s….circle back to that.” Sara said. “What did you do to not-Tommy?”
“I delved into his mind to find out what he wanted, who his partners were and what their plan is. It was too much for him and he died.” She said. “They are after something called a “prism”. They want to take over this world, to add it to their collection. And they’ve received help from someone called Thawne of this Earth.”
“Of course Thawne is involved.” Barry said. “Did he know where they went?”
“No. Pietro?” Pietro sped off. Wanda then looked at Felicity. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.” Felicity and Wanda left Star Labs so that they could talk without being overheard. Wanda told her everything she’d learned from Tommy-X, including the identity of the archer and the flying woman, as well as the fact that the woman was dying.
“Why are you telling me all of this?”
“Because you might have to make an uncomfortable decision. The life of one person isn’t more important than the lives of millions.” Wanda said. “I saw the world he came from. I’m tempted to go there and pull the planet apart, atom-by-atom.”
While Wanda and Felicity were talking, Oliver, Kara and Barry learned about a break-in at a tech company in town. The MO of the people breaking in matched the actions of the Earth-Xers, so the trio went to respond. They engaged Thawne, Overgirl and Dark Arrow in a fight until Overgirl destroyed a nearby building, forcing the heroes to abandon the fight to save civilians.
“So, now they have the prism.” Iris said. “Fantastic.”
“And we return to our earlier topic of conversation.” Wanda said, looking at Kara. “How do I kill someone like you?”
“You or I can kill her.” Felicity said. “Not Kara, but the….the other one. If it really comes down to that.”
“How?” Kara asked. “Bullets bounce off me and-.”
“I don’t wanna get into it, because once you know, you can’t unknow it, but let’s just say that we have our ways.” Kara wasn’t actually bulletproof, no one was. Her skin was simply durable enough that firearms couldn’t generate enough force to pierce her skin. Felicity, however, could push a metal bullet with enough force to go through Kara’s skin, or Overgirl’s in this case.
“It’s not gonna come to that.” Oliver said. “Because we’re gonna find them, we’re gonna get the prism back and we’re gonna get these people off our Earth.”
“I know a good place for you to start.” Pietro said, running into the room. “There is a gathering at a shipping depot. I suspect this prism they have is with them there.”
Sara, Alex, Oliver, Kara, Stein, Jax and Barry went to the shipping depot to confront the Earth-Xers and get back the prism. The hope was that, somehow, doing so would get them to leave, thought it seemed like a naïve hope.
Not long after they left, Wells raised the intruder alarm. A contingent of Earth-X soldiers were attacking Star Labs. Dark Arrow was here, but Thawne and Overgirl were not. After the alarm was raised, Mick and Caitlin volunteered to be the first line of defense.
“Pietro, take Wanda and leave.” Felicity said.
“What? I have to take both of you. If you stay here, they might-.”
“Get her to the shipping depot. I can do more against them here than either of you can.” She said. “Go.”
“I will try not to kill your friend.” Wanda said, referring to Kara.
“If she finds out why Overgirl wants her, I think she might want you to.” She said.
Mick, Caitlin and the rest of Team Arrow were taken down while Felicity was trying to get Iris to safety. Everywhere she turned, there were Earth-Xers. She didn’t want to risk being placed in a cell in the Pipeline, in case it did affect her powers, so the pair kept ducking and dodging out of sight. She heard Dark Arrow give orders to “watch the prisoners” before leaving and that’s when she struck.
“You’re my friend, right?” She asked.
“Of course. Why?” Iris asked.
“Because I’m about to do a few things that you’re not gonna like, but I’m only doing them because of the situation.”
“You’re not gonna shoot me, are you?”
“No.”
“Then, do whatever you need to do.”
“Okay.” She said. “We need to go reveal ourselves to the Nazis guarding the Pipeline.”
“What?!”
“You said to do whatever I needed to do.” She said. She grabbed Iris’s arm and made her way towards the Pipeline. As soon they neared it, they were spotted. She raised her arms. “We surrender, just don’t shoot us.”
With a gun pointed at both of them, they were led towards the Pipeline. Halfway down the corridor, the soldiers were deprived of their guns. Felicity and Iris stood there, appearing confused, as the soldiers were then thrown back and forth across the hall until they were all knocked out.
“Metal belt buckles really are a bitch.” Felicity said. She waved a hand to unlock the cells, but nothing happened. “Right, the doors aren’t metal.”
“Get us out of here, blondie.” Mick said.
“Shut up and I will.” She said. She took several deep breaths. “Iris, you might wanna take about seven steps back.” The other woman complied. Felicity took a few more deep breaths and suddenly, all of the lights shut off. The doors to the cells opened.
“What the hell did you?” Cisco, who’d been unconscious since the wedding, asked.
“Set off an EMP.” She said. “It was the easiest way to open the door.”
“The leader-.” Curtis started to say.
“He left. I need to go.” She said. “Don’t let them re-infiltrate this place.”
At the shipping yard, Oliver, Barry, Sara, Alex, Kara and Firestorm were doing a good job fighting the Earth-Xers at first. They were taking down plenty of invaders and greatly reducing the numbers. They might’ve succeeded, if Overgirl, Reverse Flash and something Kara identified as Metallo hadn’t arrived to turn the tide of the battle.
Firestorm was separated into Stein and Jax and the heroes were quickly overpowered. Wanda and Pietro arrived as they were being restrained and collared. Pietro wanted to rush in and free them, but Wanda wanted to wait and see what was going to happen.
The heroes awoke. Dark Arrow made a speech about how they needed Kara, and the others were to be used as leverage to ensure her cooperation. As he neared the end of his speech, Metallo was literally torn apart.
“It seems no matter how old I get,” Magneto said as he flew into view, “I never stop finding vermin like you who need to die. Thankfully, killing Nazis is something I excel at. I may actually enjoy this.” Wanda used her powers to keep everyone frozen in place.
“You think you can kill us?” Overgirl asked. “You are weak. You are nothing. You-.” She tried to take off, but couldn’t, due to Wanda’s intervention.
A piece of Metallo flew towards her with a flick of Magneto’s wrist. Since she couldn’t move, the metal cut straight through her neck, decapitating her. “That’s quite enough out of you.”
Reverse Flash sped off, and Pietro ran off after him.
Dark Arrow nocked an arrow and aimed it at Magneto. “I’m going to kill you.”
Magneto didn’t even look at him, instead he waved a hand and every gun in the building was aimed at Dark Arrow. With another twitch of his fingers, Dark Arrow was dead, having been killed by a few dozen bullets. The guns were then turned on the remaining Earth-Xers and he fired them again.
“Okay, the good news is-.” Felicity said, rushing towards where everyone was. She spotted the group of dead Earth-Xers and then her father. She waved a hand and the collars around everyone’s necks came off, as did their restraints.
“Ah, Lorna. I was wondering where you were.” Magneto said.
“We talked about this.” She said. “That’s not my name anymore.”
“Wh-?” Several of Felicity’s friends started to ask.
“Magneto’s stance on Nazis is pretty well-known.” Oliver said.
“I believe the phrase you meant to say is “thank you”. Though, I didn’t come here for you.” Magneto said.
“They aren’t the only ones.” Felicity said. “They- the parallel Earth they came from, it’s a terrible place. There’s a whole army of-.”’
“I know. Let them come.” He said. “As I once tried to tell Charles, there’s a catharsis in killing those who want to kill you.” He then started levitating to fly off. “Until next time, little magnet.”
“I- that was Magneto.” Barry said. “Magneto just called you his-. What just-?”
“Clearly, Magneto is Ms. Smoak’s father, which explains her abilities.” Dr. Stein said.
“I guess this happening means I knocked out the power in Star Labs and destroyed the prism for nothing.” Felicity said.
“You did what?” Sara asked.
“I set off an EMP with my powers, yes I can do that, which knocked out the entire electrical system at Star Labs. And I destroyed the prism, so that they couldn’t use it to weaken Kara enough to steal her heart.” She said. “Which is good because if I hadn’t, and if we couldn’t find another way, Wanda was gonna kill Kara.”
“What?” Kara yelled.
“It was simple math. Their plan depended on you. Without you, they had nothing. Killing you would save millions.” Wanda said. “I would’ve made it as painless as possible.”
“But it didn’t come to that, so...yay.” Felicity said.
The next day, a large force of armed men from Earth-X crossed over to Earth-1. Their invasion didn’t last very long after their weapons were destroyed by Felicity and their equivalent of the Waverider was torn apart, piece-by-piece, by Wanda. The few who tried to keep fighting were quickly defeated by the assembled heroes.
Later, after Digg officiated a real wedding for Barry and Iris, Felicity and Oliver were on the way home. Halfway to Star City, Oliver turned to her.
“Your sister and your dad are kind of intense.” He said. “And I really wish I hadn’t met them under the circumstances that I did.”
“Wanda’s normally not so bad.” She said. “It was just the situation.”
“But your dad is always like that?”
“My dad doesn’t like humans very much.” She said. “He was young when he was sent to a concentration camp. He lost his family there. And now, he sees the way people react to mutants, and to him, it feels like history will end up repeating itself.”
Oliver didn’t have a response to that, so he let the matter drop. He couldn’t say that there weren’t humans who wanted to wipe out all mutants or argue that Magneto didn’t have a reason to feel that way, given his life experience.
Oliver and Felicity reached their apartment. As soon as he stepped inside, Oliver could sense that something was off.
“Are you going to linger in the doorway all day?” A voice called.
Felicity rolled her eyes and stepped around Oliver. “Did you seriously break into my home?”
“It’s not my fault that I can open the lock without a key.” Her father defended.
“You could also just, you know, not use your powers to break in. Do you not understand what boundaries are?” She asked. “Why are you here?”
“I thought it was time that I meet your boyfriend.” He said. “And doing so moments after I killed a doppelganger of his certainly would’ve made introductions awkward.”
“Oliver, this is my dad, Erik.” Felicity said. “Dad, this is Oliver.”
“Uh, nice to meet you.” Oliver said.
“How do you feel about mutants Oliver?” Magneto asked. “If you and Lor- Felicity were to have children, and the child was a mutant, what would your reaction be?”
“What do you mean? He or she would be my child. I’d love them and take care of them and do my best to be a good parent to them, whether they were a mutant or not.”
“I suppose we’ll see about that.” He said.
“What do you mean, we’ll see? Wait, Felicity are you-?” Oliver asked.
“No, I’m not pregnant.” Felicity said. “If I was, I would’ve already told you. Dad, what’s the point of this?”
“Two year ago, after you were shot, you told me that you loved him.” He said. “But he didn’t know about your past at the time. Now he does and I want to be sure that you aren’t being a lovesick fool who’ll end up getting hurt.”
“I’m not and I won’t.”
“Good.” He said. “Because there’s iron in human blood and if he hurts you, I will-.”
“Okay, that’s enough. I draw the line at thinly-veiled death threats. You need to leave.”
“I suppose this means I won’t see you at Passover then.”
“I don’t know yet. Maybe if you don’t threaten people I care about, I might come.” She said as she ushered him out of the apartment. “Sorry about that.”
“Well, at least it was only a veiled death threat.” Oliver said. “Sorry, I’m trying to find an upside here.”
“The upside is that I think he didn't hate you. And I know Wanda and Pietro did like you.” She said. “And my mom does, so in terms of “Felicity’s relatives that like Oliver”, you’re winning.”
