Chapter Text
Bonding.
“This is Icrus”
“Icusss”
“Yes exactly.”
The amount of things to do around here is,well….for lack of better words, very limited.
Techno could go search off to a new portal and perhaps for the off chance of getting something new,or go off and explore the same pathways of the abandoned fortresses and go to the same chest for a hope of leaving something in.
But none of that is exactly easy with a nosy human he has been clinging around a lot lately.
From what he had read from the absurd amounts of trash “Parenting 101” and “Parent for Dummies”, he has heard that ‘bonding’ time is very important for babies his age.( Techno wasn’t exactly sure why he had these books in the first place? They were right in the back of the bookshelves. )
So what is better for bonding than reading gruesome tales of death, betrayal and gods.
Hey, they never said anything specific, he grew up reading it so it's fine.
“Icarus and his father,Daedalus, were imprisoned in the labyrinth, for both being fucking idoits for helping Thesues and for building it in the first place.”
“The king Minos was not exactly pleased with that and with him putting people who pissed him off into the labyrinth to get eaten by the minotaur.”
He flipped the pages of an old torn book, it was lighter than most but still quite hefty,it was also one of his favorites.
“Daedalus was a smart man, he had a plan and made wings of wax and feathers to fly out and escape. He warned his son Icrus that if he were to fly to high his feathers would melt and he would fall. So like these myths go, he did exactly that and fell and drowned to death. Like a dumbass.”
“Dumbss” He repeated.
“Mhm,definitely a dumbass.” Techno continued on flipping the book, “See this? This is a minotaur and that's Daedalus and Ircus.”
He pointed to the picture of a large humanoid creature, its head looking like one of a bull but the body of a human. It's not the worst creature of them all (believe Techno, the overworld creatures look 10x worse.)
Even with the clearly more interesting creature, the human looked towards the more normal Icarus and Daedalus. The picture shows them flying and Icrus going to the sun.
“Hmmm”
“Daedalus.”
No reaction.
“Icarus?”
Nothing again, just instead he flipped the pages back and forth gleefully.
Techno sighed.
Techno wasn't sure what he was expecting, it's a tiny human, by this point he should just pick any random name. But the voices would just pick a fight with each other. They were fighting over Theseus or Perseus, both Techno didn’t quite care for, words that end with -seus and are the ‘hero’ of the story didn’t quite appeal to him nor fit the human quite well. Neither did the human, as he seemingly was not really caring.
He doesn't seem to do much in general.
He sighed once again, getting up and placing the book in the bookshelf behind him.
The room really just contained bookshelves for walls, containing three in the small room. One on two parallel ends and one on the back end of the room. They were filled with the brim of books, though most of them are somewhat unreadable as the letters on them were fading and the pages were ripping out.
He lied down and felt himself get bored again, his human doing whatever he was doing, just crawling around. It has been 2 days since he has last brought the human home.
Never had he stayed in his house for a long period of time (maybe for the rare instances where he would feel drowsy, but even then he could never close his eyes for more than a couple minutes. He hated sleep.) He would be off destroying portals, collecting new shiny items and for the off- chance fight he would be in a random bottle with a mob.
Even so, those things were never quite fulfilling and became dutiful at a time.
He let his mind wonder for a moment.Just thinking of random thinking or random things before hearing a loud ‘thunk’ sound.
He got up to look at the side of him and felt the voices get knocked out of him. The human was climbing the fucking shelf! His tiny baby feet on the edges and his hands reaching out for a small looking blue book that was on the edge of it. The shelf had already started to tip over from the extra weight. To say the least, this was one of the first ever times he had heard the voices yelled so loud.
Techno quickly jumped to his feet and grabbed the baby, moving out the way so quickly that he was able to move himself out the way as well.
The whole old shelf just fell to the floor, books and dust going everywhere.
The small little human just cheered and raised the blue book he got up.
“Some part of me feels like you did that on purpose.”
The baby only giggled and Techno felt his head thump for the first time (though for some reason he is sure it is not the last.)
He placed down the human with the book and began lifting the shelf up, taking a couple of seconds to be fully up.
All the books were all on the floor, scattered around. He looked behind him to see the human being busy, playing with the blue book. He tried to get any fury but it all just melted.
He doesn't know better.
He grumbled as he picked the books to put them back to the self. He was already half done when he decided to check that the little pesky human, who looked entertained, was chewing paper.
…
Wait-
“Shit!”
He pulled the paper away as fast he could.
“Don’t eat that! What the hell!” He put the pages back in, the corners where the ones that took real damage thankfully, he checked back to the second thing that might have taken damage, sadly it couldn’t be like the book.
The tiny human lips quiver and looked at him with big teary eyes.
“No no no don’t start-”
He quickly rushed over and held him, he started to sob loudly.
“Hey! How bout I read you this book! Would you want that?”
He was beginning with a miniature human? How low has he gotten too? Apparently not low enough to the point the voices are angry with him. (“Don’t upset the human!” Or “Human sad!”)
He seats down and starts reading. His head is still aching.
“Morphues is one of the many sons of Somnus..” He felt his eyelids twitch a little, was he sleepy?, “He is often affiliated with being the god of sleep or dreams.”
He yawned.
“Drems” The baby slapped the page, a picture of Morphues
“Dreams?” He said confusedly.
“Dreeeems”
“Do you want to be called Dream?” He said drowsily.
“Dreem! Dreem!” He yelled loudly
“Dream.” He said quietly.
“What a stupid name…” He trailed off, falling of to sleep.
Dream grabbed the book and looked at the cover closely, the blue cover having a winged people on it.
“Dada”
He snuggled up closer to Techno, using the book as a makeshift blanket.
