Chapter Text

The chapel continued to murmur.

“Oh, how touching! I always cry at weddings.” An unknown cruel voice spoke from the front doors of the church. “Our young lovers together at last.”

Yaoyorozu gasped, and Izuku tensed up his entire body.

“Surely now they can live happily ever after.” A man with spiky, blond hair and red eyes smugly walked down the aisle, not stopping until he reached the trio at the podium, a snarky smirk stretching his lips.

“But you forget, she’s still my wife!” The man growled, snatching Yaoyorozu from the stand, and pulling her close to him. “I’m not leaving here empty handed.”

Izuku suddenly stuttered a gasp. “ You.

Shoto frowned, watching as the blond man’s face twisted into slight recognition.

Then it seemed to click. “ Deku…?

You! ” The boy seethed, his hands shaking at his sides. Shoto took a step between them, staring down at the man in distaste. He had a feeling this would not end well.

“But I— I left you.” The man stuttered in disbelief.

Izuku shook his head. “ For dead.

The pews gasped, and Shoto felt rage surge within him. The man who had abandoned Izuku. The man who had killed him.

He stepped forward, ready to throttle the man until he was blue, but a hand grabbed him by his wrist, holding him back.

Izuku shook his head when he turned over his shoulder accusingly. “Don’t, Shoto.”

“Oh, what’s this? Looks like you’ll be sitting by the sidelines at another wedding.” The man cackled, dragging him and Yaoyorozu towards the podium and snatching the chalet, holding it up in the air. “A toast, to Deku. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.”

And Shoto watched with immense satisfaction as the man downed the wine until the cup was empty. The man swallowed with a pleased sigh, and not even a moment later was he choking and gagging, his skin turning a deadly shade of blue.

The man gasped down at his hands in horror, stumbling away from the trio, and tripping over his feet multiple times. An angry mob of skeletons began forming around the man, surrounding him until there was no other way for him to go but out through the back entrance of the chapel. He stumbled out the door, and the mob followed closely behind him, leaving the trio behind to deal with the mess.

Toshinori grabbed the empty chalet from the ground, and placed it back onto the podium, watching them closely.

“Todoroki-san,” Yaoyorozu gasped, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him into a short lived hug. “I thought I’d never see you again. I’m glad you’re safe.”

Shoto spied the way Izuku’s eyes fell to the floor, a tight smile replacing his frown, and Shoto couldn’t decide which was worse. Silently, as if nobody would notice, as if Shoto wouldn’t have noticed, the boy turned away, taking a few short steps before Shoto reached out for him.

“Izuku, wait.” He said, stepping away from Yaoyorozu, and walking up to the boy. “I made a promise.”

The corpse shook his head, turning to face Shoto with a somber smile. “You kept your promise. You set me free.” Looking down at his hands, the boy slowly slid the wedding band off of his ring finger, reaching for one of Shoto’s hands, and placed the ring in the center of his palm. “Now I can do the same for you.”

“Wait!” Yaoyorozu exclaimed, making the both of them flinch. “I don’t want this… I don’t want to break the two of you apart. You two… obviously care for each other.”

Izuku’s face slackened. “B-But—“

Yaoyorozu shook her head. “Izuku, was it? Do you love Todoroki-san?”

“Wh-What—?” The boy stuttered, color filling his cheeks again. His eyes skittered to every corner of the room before they landed directly on Shoto’s. “I… I do, yes.”

“And you, Todoroki-san, do you love Izuku?”

“I do.” Shoto replied without hesitation. “Very much.” It’s the first time he said it, which was such a shame under the circumstances.

Izuku’s eyes widened comically, his lips wobbling.

A throat loudly cleared itself from the podium. Toshinori held the chalet in his hands, holding it up to Shoto to presumably take.

“You know what to do, my boy.”

Shoto took the cup from his skeletal hands, and stared down at his reflection in the red liquid, suddenly realizing what he was about to do. In order to be with Izuku, he’d have to be dead. Shoto looked up from the chalet, and peered into Izuku’s eyes for a moment. He gave him a soft smile, reaching out with his empty hand to hold one of Izuku’s own, before lifting the cup to his lips and swallowing the poison in quick gulps.

He physically felt his heart stop. It was a strange feeling. To suddenly feel so cold, to not feel the air expand your lungs. To be dead.

“Shoto…? Are you okay?”

But the sound of Izuku’s voice made it all a second thought. Because then, the only thing on his mind was his groom.

“Izuku,” He whispered, antsy and unable to wait any longer.

A fist wrinkled the fabric at Izuku’s collar as he’s pulled into a solid chest. An arm went around his waist, a palm cupped the back of his head. And suddenly he was being kissed. And it was sweet, and slow.

And Izuku’s never felt warmer.
