Chapter 29: AU breakdown

Summary:

The Au breakdown nobody asked for

Notes:

Happy pride month y'all :D

Chapter Text

NOTE: Demons are from the Nether, they aren’t demons in a religious sense either, they’re referred to as “Dark Creators” within their own communities, but have adapted the term “demons” due to humans. Dark Creators are a species of brute strength, cunning, wit, and survival of the fittest.

Also Note: I don’t care if you use this structure for your own au! Or even alter it as you please and just use this as a baseline! All I ask is for you to either share it with me, or in the comments! I love fics no matter how short, long or crack they are. Now onto the AU

Breeds

There are 5 types of Dark creators/demons. Naturally born, Turned, Death turned, Hybrids, and Fallen lights.

Naturally Born are demons born and raised within the Nether, born of two parents. They aren’t very common. These demons may have no knowledge, or skewed knowledge of the surface world. These are of the few demons who only speak galactic, although they may be taught a second language before visiting the surface.

Turned are demons who were once human, and were turned by a high ranking or powerful demon. They are rare, and often this action is performed illegally. Their magic is more unpredictable and volatile. These demons may spend little time in the Nether, or no time in the Nether for the time period of what would’ve been their natural lives. They are usually no more than about 25-40% of the population

Death is the most common. Demons who were once human and died in some form or another. These demons run of the mill and make up a majority of the population. 50% or more.

Hybrids are born of a human and demon parent, they are rarer than turned, and naturally born, and will only ever present human traits, with perhaps a hypersensitivity to the supernatural. Hybrids are considered the lowest form of demons, they will also rarely (if ever) know of their birth origin, and the Nether. They are the only others who are not taught both galactic and their human mother tongue. Most live their lives as humans, some in rare cases are introduced to other demons or once in a while will present demonic traits.

Fallen Lights are the rarest. Only a handful are known to date to have ever existed. They are not respected, but are deeply feared. Like turns they have highly volatile magic, They do not have a demonic appearance only looking human with 1 or more of 3 deviations: All white/ all black eyes, snow white skin, or glowing veins. They can no longer appear as a Light naturally does.

Examples in this AU: (note some of these weren’t used, or seen in the story turning, dying, or being a fallen) Death Wilbur, Philza, Schlatt, Bad, Dream, Quackity. Turned Eret, Tommy, George, Fundy Fallen Sapnap

Biology

Most demons are from the Nether because of this all demons, regardless of origin, have an unnaturally high body temperature, an average of 100F/37C. Because of this they don't get sick very often & rarely suffer from fevers. They are also able to withstand unnaturally high or low temperatures, this does not mean they are fireproof.

Every demon has a unique scent to them, all demons are aware of the general scent of a demon which carries the scent of the nether, some may be attuned to human scents as well. Emotions or sickness can be portrayed through scent, distinguished by those close to them.

Demons (an exception of Lights or Hybrids) have 3 forms. The first is human camo, for turned/death demons it is how they appeared before turning. Naturally born can adapt the appearance of an existing human or a parent. Second form is the “neutral” appearance and is what’s commonly seen. It is a casual appearance. The third form, only for demons who were once human, or naturally born demons, is pure raw magic. These forms can become intangible and meld with shadows and allow for travel via shadow magic. It is the most magically vulnerable state of a demon, however it is also when they are the most immune to weapons or substances not of Nether origin. This form is rarely used in sight of others, only being shown when completely exhausted of magic, in deep trust, or intimidation.

Demons can be born from two demon parents, it does not matter the gender of the parents as long as there is at least one giver, with the exception of F/F. I.e: M/M, M/mtf/ftm, or F/mtf

Salt hurts them. How severe the reaction varies a lil, rarely a few may be able to touch briefly and only have light wounds, but most have adverse reactions. Demons who died/turned under severe salt relevant circumstances will have an extreme reaction to salt. i,e: drowning in the sea, drowning in salt water.

The oldest demon in this AU; Schlatt who is head of the Council of 12 at 615. It is rare for one to be over 800 years old.

Demons who died tend to lose their memories from their human lives save for their death and severe traumatic events. There are exceptions.

All demons speak galactic. Most are bilingual or multilingual. Galactic is universal within the nether and can also be used to communicate with mobs and Lights.

Demons are immortal but can be killed by other demons or lights, but are not harmed by modern human inventions to a lethal level. This doesn’t mean it won’t hurt like a mofo if they’re shot or stabbed though.

Most demons are an average of 6’1”/1.8m to 7’7”/2.34m, although some may be as tall as 11’/3.35m to 11’5”/3.5m

Demons are possessive creatures, they can be possessive of items, toys, riches, and even people. This varies in extremity, and can lead to hoarders, most are able to control it.

Demons may become protective and possessive of their partners in a caring way, and fawn over their partner/families. This possessiveness shows less in an ownership and more of a protection and care over a person.

Demons are not affected by the following substances: Nicotine, Oleander, Hemlock, nightshade, mycotoxins, and alcohol. Many many toxins still affect them, but due to the fungus of the Nether they are immune to mycotoxins, and Oleander. Their body does not react negatively to Nicotine, or Alcohol, but it takes higher amounts to affect them.

Magic

All demons can tp between nether and overworld, but is incredibly draining and unstable when unpracticed it can even be dangerous to use the portals.

All demons wield some form of magic, this magic may be related to their origin, their death, or something they specialized in during their time as a human. Fallen Light’s magic does not change.

Some demons are able to turn humans, these demons must be confident in their magic and be powerful, otherwise there is a likelihood for the person they are attempting to turn, die. Guardians may turn humans to try and save their mark, or a mortal lover.

Examples in this AU: George, Eret

Marks & Guardians

Marks is the term used to refer to the human(s) a demon is assigned to protect.

A mark may be an individual, or a small family of >5 people.

A guardian may be highly attuned to their mark, and often feel a close connection to their mark. If the mark has met their guardian then it is likely that same closeness will be felt. It can show affection, platonic friendship, seeking approval from their guardian or mark, and being attuned to their mark’s scent and emotions.

“Guardian Angels” do not exist in this au, but instead are Dark Creators through a misunderstanding.

they either act with magic and not be seen, or no magic, but behave as a roommate/neighbor etc. Of course there are rule breakers

Examples in this AU of marks/Guardians: Wilbur - Tommy, Philza - Fundy

Weapons & Hunters

All hunters conceal carry something, usually a knife or tazer as demons are immune to most man-made weapons like guns. Hunters know baseline protection magic, most have some sort of protection on their home against lights and dark creators.

Every demon has some sort of weapon. This weapon is usually made from one or more of these materials: Obsidian, netherite, gold, stygian iron, greek fire, iron, and steel. they do need maintenance. All demons have some sort of weapon entirely unique to them that is summonable

Because demon weapons do not wear at the level human weapons do, many “ineffective” knives as swords because of their fragility can be easily wielde by demons without the fear of breaking.

Examples in this AU:

Dream: Stygian executioner Axe

Techno: Stygian & Netherite double edged ax

Schlatt: Obsidian Rapier

Eret: Glowstone & Netherite scythe

Big Q: Checkered/marbled quartz, obsidian and stygian scimitar

The Council

There are 3 tiers, and a total of 12 on the council

Highest tier: ruler & co-advisor

They are involved in everything governmental and have the final say in every jurisdiction.

Second Tier: Jurors. (3)

decide and assign guardians, and behave as judge and jury of the world, able to veto decisions made just by the co-advisor. Perform punishments and oversee executions. Assign generals.

Third: The Backers or “The Slaughter jury” (7)

planners, communications with the surface residents. propose trials, Looking after affairs overlooked by the co advisor and jurors. The reason they are called the Slaughter is because they directly work with the ruler, outranking the co-advisor and jurors in war. They tend to be the most aggressive and volatile of the team.

Punishments (in order from most severe to least)

Execution is the death penalty and the highest punishment given. It must always be overseen by either 4 jurors, or Ruler, or co-advisor and a slaughter tier

Exile of a demon having them stripped of all magic with the exception of camo magic and banished to the surface. Only after they have faced one or both of lower punishments.

Humiliation can be judged and given by any level of the council, and is done to publicly shame the subject for varying amounts of time.

Murder is a demon being forced to kill either a criminal human, an abducted human, or in some cases, teens. This is the lowest capital punishment and is a way to “Teach a lesson”.

- Usually to a demon who refuses summons or to behave in a more cruel manner as needed. It is also a form of humiliation when a guardian must kill their mark or face higher punishment.

Culture, beliefs, religion(or lack of), and others are subjective to the story!

They do have music, traditions, holidays, celebrations of achievements.

Notes:

If anyone is wondering, this isn't going to be a very religious based demon au as I'm not comfortable writing that. So while "demon" is a good descriptor, they aren't actual 'demons' as defined by any branch of catholicism or any other religion
