Chapter Text
It took a while, but they finally got the hunters to retreat, much thanks to Techno and his fireworks.
He launched one more into the clearing they were escaping too, making sure that they never came back again.
“Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd they’re gone.” Techno smiled as he turned back to everyone.
“Victory!” Tommy screeched, holding his sword up in the air.
“It’s not over yet.” Wilbur patted Tommy’s shoulder, looking over to the cave Dream dived into a while ago.
“Do you think he won?” George asked.
They all heard the noise of the portal being opened, which meant Dream and Chris made it into the End, but they were all too busy to go in and check since they were keeping the Overworld clear.
“Only one way to find out.” Phil said as he led the expedition down into the depths of the cave.
It took them a while before they actually found the portal room, much thanks to Sapnap dispersing from the group and going in a separate direction and they had to backtrack to find him. But after all that trouble, they made it to the room with the portal blocks.
“It’s closed.” Bad pointed out the obvious.
It’s true, they were all staring at the blank End portal. No powerful hum of magic, no black and purple with a mix of green swirling swirling around the center with white stars visible. Nothing. Just the lava below.
“That’s not possible. We heard it open.” George said.
“No one can close an End Portal.” Sapnap said, turning towards George. “This isn't right."
“But look, it clearly happened.” George gestured to the empty portal frame.
“How?” Techno asked.
“Isn’t it possible the Ender Dragon closed it?” Tommy spoke up. They all turned towards him.
“Even if it was,” Bad said, “she promised to Dream and Tubbo that she’d leave it open. She wouldn’t break a promise, would she?”
“The Ender Dragon doesn’t strike me as that sort of person, er Dragon.” Wilbur added.
“Maybe she did it to keep Chris from leaving.” Techno said, placing his crossbow onto his back. "She locked the End so they would have to finish the fight in there.”
“Do you think they were successful?” Phil asked, leaning over to check the portal frame blocks. “Obviously Dream stopped Tubbo from dying since neither of their bodies are here so they both made it to the End.”
“Yeah, but what about Chris?” Tommy asked. Tommy didn't want to dare think about what Chris could've done to his friend when Tommy wasn't paying attention.
“That’s what we’re wondering.” Phil stared at the portal, only hoping that Dream had saved Tubbo.
That's all they could do. Hope.

Tubbo and Dream just stared at their mother, mouths agape.
“Did mother just speak english?” Tubbo asked Dream.
“Yeah.” Dream blinked, trying to figure out what just happened. “She did.”
“I’ve learned a few things from the Endermen.” their mother replied as she landed behind him.
Tubbo ran forward and engulfed as much of her as he could in a hug. Dream hopped up behind her and hugged her as well. To normal people, her scales would be jagged and rough, but to Dream and Tubbo, they were the embodiment of home. Warm and safe.
“It is so good to see you.” She said, snuggling them both closer to her scales.
“Not the reunion I was thinking of, but I guess it worked.” Dream ruffled his own hair before ruffling Tubbo’s, earning a squeal from the child.
The Ender Dragon laughed. “You and me both.”
“You look so cool!” Tubbo squealed. “The books don’t do you justice.”
“The books say nothing right about me.”
“I’m really glad all this is over and that I could see you again.” Dream said as he stared at his mother’s purple eyes.
“I’m glad you’re safe.” she replied.
“Oh just wait until you meet Tommy! He’s gonna freak when he hears about this!” Tubbo squealed again. The kid was doing a lot of squealing.
Dream chuckled at Tubbo’s antics before turning back to his mother.
“We do need to go back. Don’t think I didn’t notice you locking the End.” He placed a hand on his hip and stared at her.
The Ender Dragon sighed. “I didn’t do it to keep you here. I did it to keep you safe. But a promise is a promise. You can go back home.”
Dream nodded in response. “Thank you.”
“But please don’t forget to visit.” his mother pleaded. “I still want to see my sons.”
“I’d be insane if I didn’t come back!” Tubbo yelled and Dream nodded in agreement.
“We’ll come back, don’t worry.”
“Oh! His mother called as Dream grabbed onto Tubbo. “Don’t bring that Tommy guy here. I heard he likes explosives and I’m in no mood to have my End blown up.”
“Can’t make any promises.”
Dream smirked at her and jumped off the pillar with Tubbo in his arms before she could yell at him.
He flapped through the End before diving through the portal in the bedrock pillar that his mother made.
They dived through a world of stars and colour before they both popped up on the portal in the Overworld.
“You’re alive!” Tommy yelled before jumping over the portal, crashing into Dream and Tubbo and causing them to fall to the ground. “You’re both alive.”
“Is he dead?” Techno asked, pulling out his crossbow. No one needed any more information to know Techno was talking about Chris. “Do I need to kill one more person?”
“No it’s okay.” Tubbo replied.
“Mother finished Chris off.” Dream finished.
“I’m so glad that’s over.” George sighed as he plopped down next to Dream.
“You and me both.” Sapnap said as he collapsed on Dream’s and George’s legs.
They all sat down and just took a moment to breathe before Ranboo popped up, frantically turning in a circle. His teleportation caused many to jump and scream, including Tommy, which he will deny for the rest of time.
“I head the End Portal open!” he yelled.
They all broke out into laughter and Ranboo turned to them, a smile lighting up his face. He noticed the two Dragons and immediately started jumping up and down with excitement.
“You’re alive!” He yelled before engulfing Tubbo and Dream in a hug. “Is it over?” he said as he finally let them go. “Did we win?”
“Yeah.” Dream nodded. “We did.”
“Well in that case, get off your lazy butts and come on. I know of a few people who would love to see you guys again.” Ranboo hopped up and gestured to them with his hand.

Ranboo slammed the Community House’s door wide open.
“Ranboo.” Puffy perked up. “You’re back.”
“And I brought some friends!” Ranboo called, gesturing to the giant party walking in behind him.
Puffy’s face lit up as she noticed Dream walk in the door, Dragon wings out and everything. It was weird to see him like this, but she wasn't going to dox him. Her duckling was home.
“Dream!” she yelled before jumping and hugging him.
“Why does everyone keep doing this?” Dream asked as he struggled to keep upright and hugged Puffy back.
“I’m glad you’re okay, my little duckling.” she said to him.
“Of course I am, mom.”
Puffy couldn’t help the tears that flowed down her cheeks by the name he called her. He's never really called her that before and she supposed that name would go to his actual creator. But no, he called Puffy that and that privilege was unmatched.
Fundy and Quackity both charged after Tubbo. Skeppy dived into Bad, causing them both to topple to the ground. Punz and Sam caught up with George and Sapnap. Eret and Niki talked to Wilbur, Techno and Phil.
“I’m glad to be back, but now I’m going to go sleep for the next five days.” George said, pointing in the direction of his house.
“You already do that anyway.” Tommy said back and George gave him a glare.
“Yes, but now I have a good excuse for doing so.”
The entire SMP erupted with laughter and Dream and Tubbo smiled at the warm feeling that bursted in their hearts.
This was home and they were glad to be a part of it.
