Chapter Text
The moon hung high in the sky, round and bright, illuminating the night. The air was crisp, but a fire surrounded the stone platform on which Bokuto and Akaashi stood. They held hands and looked up into the sky as the Fukurodani and Nekoma clans surrounded them in observation.
Akaashi took a deep breath, his heart beating too fast for his chest to keep up; he was sure it would break through his skin and plummet off the platform. Bokuto squeezed his hand, causing Akaashi to look at him. He smiled and pulled Akaashi’s hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss on the back of his knuckles.
They dressed in traditional ceremonial kimonos, adorned with crystals, so beautiful Akaashi was not sure where they came from and who was tasked with creating the items or retrieving the gems. The Chieftess stood in front of them, a large cup in her hand. She smiled at them softly before beginning.
“It is time to recite your vows to the gods, old and new. You have practiced?” They nodded at her. Akaashi did his best to remember the verse, the language completely foreign to him, but he tried to recall the sounds that rolled off Bokuto’s tongue so well. “Good. You will recite the vows to the gods and then drink from the unity cup. Lastly, you will consummate the marriage before your people. Are you ready?” They nodded.
The Chieftess moved from the platform, leaving Bokuto and Akaashi to begin. Bokuto took the first step forward, Akaashi followed. They looked up, Bokuto nodded, signaling for the beginning of their vows.
Akaashi spoke the words as best as he could manage along with Bokuto. When the last words were spoken into the air, they took a step forward, one hand each holding the large cup and drinking the contents inside. Once the cup was empty, they set it down and looked at one another, knowing what was to come next.
Bokuto took Akaashi’s hand and leaned in for a kiss, his lips were hot and moved in a rushed manner, bruising and passionate. “Keep your eyes on me,” Bokuto said as he took a step back, leading Akaashi to the center of the platform. Akaashi nodded and focused on Bokuto’s eyes.
They disrobed, the warmth from the fire comforting to their skin. They moved closer to one another and kissed again. This one was more urgent and passionate. Bokuto laid down, pulling Akaashi with him. Their lips moved fervently, their hands touched skin, they caressed places they had only seen a few times while bathing. And then Bokuto moved forward, pinning Akaashi under him. He kissed his neck before mouthing the words one last time, “eyes on me.”
Akaashi waited, anticipating the moment he was scared about, nervous about, excited for. Bokuto placed another small kiss on his cheek and then it happened. Akaashi sucked in a breath and wrapped his arms around Bokuto and pulled him as close as possible.
They were connected, becoming one, forever. Akaashi felt pain surge through his body and centering on his horn. He kissed the skin on Bokuto's neck, scratched at his back, and whispered into his ear words as sweet as honey. The spectators, the members of the clan, disappeared and it was only Bokuto and Akaashi, together.
When it was over, they laid on the platform, holding hands and looking at the moon and the stars. The clans had left, leaving them alone, mates for life. Akaashi looked over at Bokuto and smiled. Bokuto moved closer and placed another kiss on Akaashi’s forehead. It seemed like they had been there for ages and only a few minutes at the same time. Akaashi was ready for the next time they would be able to be intimate again, alone and more intimate.
“Can I try something?” Akaashi asked.
“Of course.” Akaashi closed his eyes and concentrated as hard as he could. He thought about the events of the night with Bokuto, and the joys he had yet to experience with his mate. He felt Bokuto’s hand slip from his and the heat from the fire disappear. When he opened his eyes, he was in the sky. He looked around and noticed a large black wing that seemed to be attached to him. Moments later, the white owl with flecks of black flew beside him, the golden eyes shining brightly against the night sky.
