Chapter Text
Loki Odinson
He’d been standing outside his brother’s room for much longer than twenty minutes but didn’t have the heart to knock on the door.
It opened, almost smacking Loki in the face.
“Gah!” he yelped, backing up and hitting the wall opposite the entrance to Thor’s bedroom. He groaned. Luck was really not on his side today. “Watch yourself, brother!”
Thor had an odd look in his eyes. He still held out a hand and pulled Loki away from the wall. “My apologies,” he said so sincerely it almost made him throw up. What in Hel’s name had happened to him? “Are you okay?”
“Are you?” Loki snapped back, not intending to be so harsh, but… well, it’s him. You couldn’t really be so surprised. “Sorry I… had an odd afternoon.”
His brother’s gaze softened, and he smiled. “Would you like to tell me about it?”
Loki shrugged; mumbling “Sure” whilst trying to appear nonchalant despite the nerves building up in his stomach. He was- he was really going to do this. Crap. Shit. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. FUCK-
The next moment he was sitting on Thor’s desk chair while Thor placed himself on his bed.
“I… met someone…” he begun to say, dragging his words out while internally questioning why he was doing this. It shouldn’t be this hard. His brother was gay. He’d understand. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully. Shit.
The corners of Thor’s lips dragged upwards. “Really? Whose the lucky maiden to have claimed your heart?” It’s foolish of him in a way. Assuming his brother fell for a woman and a woman only.
“I think we’ve classified already that I’m not straight,” he begun to say slowly. “But then I’m not… not straight.”
Thor’s eyebrows furrowed. “You’re bisexual?”
He shook his head, frustration growing. “Not exactly. I… I’m pansexual.” He waited for Thor to nod before he continued. His throat felt tight. “Basically it means I’m attracted to all genders, regardless of sex and gender.”
A smile formed on Thor’s lips. “Lokes, I’m so proud! That’s great, you know? Two LGBT+ siblings. Heh. We’re basically unstoppable.” He held out a hand and Loki begrudgingly slapped it. “So who captured your heart?”
Loki’s shoulders, heavy with tension from harbouring this secret regardless of what his parents thought of Thor being gay, slumped in relaxation. He scowled in an attempt to hide the blush spreading over his features. “You know how I have that part time job at the museum?” Thor nodded. “This new guy started. He’s from… I actually don’t know but… he moved here. I think he’s joining the school. He’s… I think I like him.”
His cheeks burned. He wanted so desperately bury his head in his pillow, but alas, he wasn’t in his room, and in Thor’s instead. “Who is it, though?”
“Mobius,” he mumbled. “Mobius M. Mobius.”
Thor frowned, a smile still gracing his lips. “MMM,” he muttered, then laughed heartily. “Mmm.”
“No, stop!” Loki grunted as he threw a pencil at Thor who barely dodged. “You ruin everything.”
His brother’s eyes flitted to the floor, and he nodded. “So I’ve been told.”
Loki felt guilty. So fucking guilty. He slowly approached Thor and sat down next to him. “What’s going on?” Thor should be pleased for this, he selfishly thinks. It’s not everyday I’m semi-compassionate.
Thor shook his head. “Nope.”
He frowned. “‘Nope’ to what?” he demanded, slapping his hand on his knee.
The sound resounded through the room and Thor buried his face in the mattress. “I screwed up; everything kinda sucks now. Can we leave this topic now?”
“Fine,” Loki muttered.
“Fine,” Thor repeated.
Loki stood up. “Alright, I’ll be, uh, downstairs. Mother wants us to watch a movie with her? Will you attend with us or stay here sulking about whatever you screwed?” He realised his words after Thor snickered and added “-up.”
Thor followed him like a lost puppy dog as he shuffled down the stairs. Frigga was lying on their L-sofa.
Her head tilted to the side and her eyes lit up. “My sons, thank you for gracing me with your presence. Would you like to watch the movie-”
“Sure,” the brothers chorused, and joined their mother on the sofa.
When Loki had originally begun his job at the museum close to the end of the previous year, he had hated it with a passion.
The only reason he stayed was because he needed the money and well…- no, that was the only reason he had stayed. And here he was, back again, leaning against the counter at the front as he gives people tickets.
Mobius was next to him. He had the same job as Loki. The girl who was the predecessor of his job had left, claiming Loki was not a good partner and she couldn’t handle him the second he opened his mouth.
And that was putting it lightly.
But Mobius seemed to like him, and Loki liked him in return, so hopefully he wouldn’t leave like the girl did.
The flow of people eventually slowed, and Mobius turned to Loki with a small smile. “How many schools are there here?” he wondered. “I’m just asking because my mom wants to enrol me somewhere, but we moved so we have no idea where to go. She’s also not good with computers. Or phones.”
“I go to Shield High,” he offered, trying to appear calm and collected. “It’s good. Better than some of the other schools around here.”
“So Shield High… I’ll have to tell my mom that.” His eyes lit up and he grinned. “Do you have jet skis there?”
He was about to ask what a jet ski was (he obviously knew, he didn’t live under a rock) to wind him up but thought against it. “Not that I know of… Though I’m sure we can start a campaign. The teachers don’t like anything else more than two students asking for jet skis…”
We… like he’s actually going to come to Shield High…
Mobius laughed, his smile growing. Loki averted his gaze the second he felt his cheeks heat up. Shit. He sucked at this.
Then Mobius looked at the clock hanging high on the wall, and he gave Loki a sorry expression. “Oh. That’s my shift over. See ya, Loki!”
“Bye,” he said, though it came out more as a mumble.
God(s) he was screwed.
A girl was staring at him.
No, scrutinizing him. Her lips were pulled into a thin line as she stared, watching but making no move.
This was precisely why he hated dodgeball. The two of them were the only ones left from each team. How Loki had managed to get that far would remain a mystery.
The girl however, her staying in the game was not a surprise. She threw each ball with startling accuracy, and seemed to melt into the crowd of students like a shadow when the moon casts down on the ground whenever someone aimed for her. Now she was gripping onto a blindingly bright green ball, tossing it up and down.
Loki had his own, a rather dull blue one, but at least it didn't hurt his eyes to look at.
Ugh. This was going far too long. He could tell the other students were getting restless but there was a difference between noticing something and actually caring.
He was far past caring about their views.
Her eyes scanned over him and she tossed the ball up into the air one more time, before slamming her fist against it like a volleyball and sending it over to the other side where Loki was.
She was quick. Fortunately for him, he was quicker.
Loki had noticed the glint in her eyes - so well hidden under masks of self-proclaimed success - that eager glint which made it ever so obvious she was aiming for the final hit. She concealed it by repeatedly tossing the ball up and down, again and again, as if making it seem to him it was a leisure activity like if she was bored instead of a façade to trick him.
He lunged towards it and grabbed onto it, but not before he felt a surprisingly sharp amount of pain spike in his right shoulder.
He stared at her and she was smirking. And wow... she had actually thrown a second one she got from who knows where at him while he was going to catch it.
The rest of her team cheered and screamed for her and soon enough she was encircled in a sweat-smelling group of teenagers.
Minutes later she shoved herself out, her eyes catching his. "You're good," she drawled, corners of her lips twitching up. "I'm better."
"Wow," he muttered back sarcastically. "Your words enlighten me."
"They should," she replied back with an equal amount of sarcasm to rival his own.
He narrowed his eyes at her, but kept the quirk on his lips. "Now what should I call you?"
"Sylvie," she answered swiftly, not waiting a moment. "I'll see you..." She turned around on her heel. "Loki." And then she was off, walking back to her team.
A challenge, he thought. I'll rise to it.
