Chapter Text

Kasumi Yoshizawa & Sumire Yoshizawa

They are both 16 years old gymnasts and...ghosts? It's complicated (see Yoshizawa incident)

~Yoshizawa incident~

As in canon Sumire and Kasumin are twins who are well on their way to become professsionl gymnasts and Japan's future stars (Kasumi more so thatn Sumire) until Sumire, due to her feelings of inadecuacy  overall low self esteem and self hatred, attempts to kill herself jumping in front of a car resulting in the death of Kasumi when she tries to save her.

Except not only Kasumi is unable to move on but once she goes searching for the hospital room where Sumire is being held she finds out Sumire is also a ghost and her body is in coma state.

Kasumi then begs and pleads for Sumire to return to her body as the more time she is outside the more the body deteriorates but most of the time Sumire is unresponsive and the few times she isn't she flat out refuses.

Eventually Kasumi grows desesperate watching her parents suffer and frustrated with her sister until one day the doctors come and tell their parents theres nothing else they can do, every day their daughter's condition worsened and it was time to let her go and when they are about to dissconnect her Kasumi jumps into the body and reanimates it.

Everybody thinks it's a miracle and although her parents are extremely confused (Why is suddenly Sumire acting so much like Kasumi?) they cant complain. They have their daughter back. They wouldn't be able to bear losing another one.

Meanwhile Kasumi is... conflicted. She is alive! She is breathing! She didn't want to die, no one does.... BUT THIS IS NOT HER BODY and now Sumire feels like talking?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS ISN'T YOUR BODY BUT MINE?

In reality Sumire was unable to return to her body, she tried to before Kasumi appeared but she JUST.COULDN'T! So the moment she sees Kasumi so easily slip into her body it occurs to her...maybe that's not his body... maybe Kasumi is the one who should live... it was her fault she died afterall (Yep,  she knows that's her body but she is very plagued by survivors guilt and evrything she was already carrying)

Kasumi won't tolerate this. The doctors said it was she who died and that's it! (but...she wants to live...she didn't want to die...she cant help the seed of doubt taking place)

Their parents are very concerned hearing Sumire bicker alone in her room. She has to stay a lot of time at the hospital.

Eventually the girls learn to switch places but Sumire cant stay for long inside the body, as if the body was rejecting her so Kasumi occupies it most of the time, slipping inside as easily as Sumire abandons it the moment it happens, only furthering their parents concern.

They hate seeing their parents suffer so the girls start to plan Sumire's return to normalcy, or as normal as it can be when two ghosts have to share a body.

But Sumire doesn't want Kasumi to let her dreams go so she has decided to become the gymnast start her sister was meant to be. Kasumi is absolutely opposed to this idea. The body is in no condition for that.

Cue they meet the Phantom Thieves.

As you can see this fic takes place after all this hospital arc when they finally meet the Pt who will help Kasumi and Sumire resolve their strange situation, starting with the who is alive and who shouldn't.

Sumire is and they have to help her regain control of her body.

Why is it rejecting her? well, Sumire herself is the one who deep inside of her doesn't want to go back. She not only wanted to die but now she feels guilty for getting her sister killed. Her sister who is better than her and deserves to live more than her.  Besides she enjoys being a ghost

Unlike Kasumi who wants to live and thus hates being a ghost and enters more easily into the body.

Also them being twins and being in the same place, extremely close when they "died" (in Sumire's case abandoned her body) is why they can share so seamlessly.

There's also the issue of why hasn't Kasumi moved on? At first they believe it's Sumire who due her feelings of guilt is holding her back and not letting her go but the better Sumire gets the more they realize it's Kasumi the one who doesn't want to move on.

She died watching her sister trying to kill herserlf. She is terrified of leaving her alone. Of not being there to take care of of her. Of what will be of Sumire once she's gone.

So like in canon the PT will help Sumire to confront her issues by becoming her friends and supporting her as best as they can and Kasumi with accepting her death and moving on.

Aka Sumire's prologue and Kasumi's epilogue...

Maruki...I'm still unsure of whether to include him in this or not (and how the fuck his dreamworld would fit into this) but if i were to....OF COURSE HE WOULD BE A GENIE

A well-intetioned genie passing as a doctor in certain hospital where....well, someone had to teach Kasumi and Sumire how to swith bodies right? ;)

Notes:

Sooo what do you think?
I took some medical liberties with this one but well what can i say? Theres hardly research about the consequences of a body being shared by two ghosts and i love it this way ;3c

Did you miss our monsters kids? I certainly did writing them.
As i said this take placed much later than our previous fic so some things mentioned here would happen in between these fics (Futaba updating her googles to some glasses her mom did and venturing more outside, Goro joining the PT, Yusuke having a better understanding of himself)

Yes, Im writing this Au in complete disarray...lol (which is why you should suscribe to the series instead of each individual fic if you want to see more)

Now regarding this fic....

You may ask "What the heck is going on with our beloved Yoshizawa sisters?" and the answer to that will be responded in the next chapter because as I did with the first installment in this AU Chapter 2 Chapter 3 will be where i will post my notes/references for the adaptation of royal to this AU that you can check in case you are curious... or avoid if you hope Ill continue this au and dont want to spoil yourself

Edit Nov 5th: I also added another chapter featuring the Royal Trio meeting which goes immediately after this so go and read it!

Again i just want to make clear me leaving this notes doesnt mean im leaving this au for adoption although if you wanna write something for it or using some elements from here i dont mind just hit me up and credit where credit is due.

And to comment if you likes it because as i said I hold this Au very dear in my heart and wouldnt want it to be tainted by the bittersweet feeling he lack of validation leaves in you.

So if you liked this *please let me know*. If I come off as entitle...sorry-not-sorry.

Now before you dive your head into m notes for chapter 2 shapter 3 theres something i want to talk about and its the titling of this fic BECAUSE GOD I AM SO PROUD OF IT.

So coming with a title for this fic was causing me plenty of problems because as good as Sumire's epilogue sounds it brings some troubles... the first one being a lot of people don't even who Sumire is and i didnt want the title alone to spoil it for them (even if the tags and summary already do it :/) so i would have to change it to Kasumi...except wouldn't it be Kasumi's prologue then? The answer to that is actually complicated (check notes in chapter 2 chapter 3 to see why) so I had to look for something else.

Which is how i ended up googling sayings that revolved around death and gymnasts and came up empty handed (i know it seems dumb buy theres one about dancers and death in my mother language so it made sense to me) UNTIL i came across a site full of inspirational quotes for gymnasts. And there wass one that struck out to me about how gymnasts are High Flyers

As english isnt my first language i didn't know what that expression meant (it was the first time i heard it) so i looked it upo AND GOD IT WAS SO PERFECT I HAD TO SCREAM TO MY FRIENDS.

High-flyer
Noun (Person). Someone who has a lot of ability and a strong wish to be succesful and is therefore expected to achieve a lot

CAN YOU SEE THIS? this combined with the fact they are ghost... *chef kiss* Perfection!

Anyway, tha was all i had to say for this!

Once again I hoped you enjoyed this fic. Thank you so much for reading it! Dont forget to go and read the Royal Trio meeting in chapter 2 even if you avoid the spoilers from chapter 3.

And if you liked this AU and hope to see more you should suscribe to the series (Halloween p5 au #1) instead of the fic as any update i make for this au will be in the form of a new work in the series instead of chapters in the fics
