Chapter Text
Society was fucked up. It was fucked up long before the existence of quirks. At first, quirked people were perceived as freaks, monsters. Then half the population had quirks and the other half was quirkless. It was difficult for a few years but humans learned to live together despite the discrimination over newfound so called ‘villainous’ and ‘useless’ quirks. Then eighty percent of the population was quirked and the other twenty percent wasn’t.
People with seemingly ‘villainous’ quirks were treated like dirt. Which is ridiculous as all quirks could be used for villainy. The same goes for ‘weak’ or ‘useless’ quirks. Many kids and adults alike were seen as a different species and also looked at like a monster.
Quirked animals were quick to follow the percentage, but due to their rarity and uniqueness, animals were often taken to labs to be experimented on. Much like Nedzu himself.
Quirks are known to show how powerful people are. In the mind of society, it is the quirk that makes the person, not the person that makes the quirk.
Quirks are seen as a sign of acceptance. A sign of belonging. And that didn’t translate well for the quirkless.
In Japan, quirkless people were a minority as they belonged to an older generation. Even more so, quirkless kids were rare, and if there were any kids then they often committed suicide at a young age due to being abused by their parents or by society in general. They, more often than not, end up in an orphanage and still get treated poorly.
The Hero Public Safety Commission doesn’t help, and Nedzu knows that. Lucky for him, the UA board finally accepted to let quirkless kids in the school. Not that it stopped the HPSC from trying to reject them. It didn’t work because they were afraid of Nedzu and UA was an HPSC free place.
That also didn’t stop people from seeing kids with flashy quirks as heroes. They automatically assumed that they were the best, as they have been raised to think.
Kids with flashy quirks thought they had an instant ticket to the hero course.
Kids with flashy quirks thought they were above everyone else. That they were the best of the best.
Kids with flashy quirks like Bakugou bullied their way into a hero school and were never caught due to their teachers who hid the real records.
Even thought not all of them get caught, a few did and one of them was Bakugou. From what Nedzu read and saw on Reporta’s post, Midoriya was one of Bakugou’s victims. It wasn’t that hard to figure it out, with a few rather illegal ways.
Almost all perf-quirked kids grew up expecting to be the best. Nedzu would know, he wasn’t the principle of a prestigious school for nothing.
The almost-rodent thought back to the blond; he really should have been more attentive to his students and realize that the relationship was not a simple rivalry. Even if Bakugou can be helped with transferring out of the hero course and with anger management and therapy; the public won’t have it.
He knew what he had to do.
--*--*--
“Sir! Are you expelling him?”
“Nedzu over here! What are going to do now?”
“He shouldn’t stay in the hero course!”
“He’s no hero!”
“My kid was bullied because of his villainous quirk-”
“How did you let him get away with-”
“Burn Aldera to the ground Nedzu!”
So many people were found outside of UA grounds.
The last comment was one of his favorites. He listened to more and more people shout their opinion and when he held his paw up, they all became silent. he could still hear cameras taking pictures and reporters writing on their notepads.
“I would like to apologize on behalf of UA for letting a person like Bakugou get accepted in the hero course. But I would also like to say that Aldera has half the blame for erasing the things he did and not putting it on his record. Now that we know what happened, I would like to inform you that Katsuki Bakugou will be expelled from UA and banned from ever becoming a hero.”
Nedzu would like to tell himself that he was a genius most of the time. He planned the talk with the public at the same time the Bakugou’s would be waiting in his office, that way they would not be able to hear this on live television.
As Nedzu continued his rant about UA’s mistakes and unobservant behavior, he subtly looked at his watch and noticed that by that time, Ms.Midoriya would be getting in his office from the secret back entrance. He excused himself and walked towards his office. From the corner of his eyes, he saw Reporta smirking.
Well, you can’t help it when your quirk take over your actions. Especially emotion based quirks. His whiskers twitched as he walked further and further from the crowd.
Yes, he could still hear the cameras and questions being fired at him. He can hear the insults thrown at UA. He ignored it all and walked inside.
After a bit of walking, he arrived at his office just in time to see Aizawa, one of his most trusted employees, gesture Inko Midoriya to wait inside.
It was a good thing that he told Aizawa to send the small Midoriya to Yamada for the time being and to distract the little boy.
He averted his thoughts to the green woman; it doesn’t take a genius to know the woman is angry and her eyes red and puffy. From what he could see, she had been crying.
Well, Nedzu couldn’t blame her. To find out that her best friend’s son has been bullying her son for over ten years must be a shock as well a devastating thing. Sure, the stoat can’t exactly comprehend human emotion but he could still understand what was happening most of the time.
Aizawa met his eyes and the rage that man was in the moment had Nedzu shudder. Though he hid it well enough to nod at the man.
Both opened the door and went in the uncomfortably silent office.
Nedzu sat in his chair opposing to the Bakugou’s and Inko. Aizawa chose to lean on the wall next to the rodent’s chair.
“Welcome everyone. I’m afraid today’s discussion is not going to be an easy one.” he started.
“What the fuck did my brat do this time?”
“I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING HAG!”
“DON’T CALL ME HAG YOU BRAT!”
Aizawa glared at the duo flashing his quirk accidentally, which didn’t go unnoticed, especially by the husband as he shushed both of them and all three turned their attention to Nedzu. One had annoyance written on his face, the other two were as patient as ever.
Inko, however, had an unreadable look on her face that reminded Nedzu of the determined glint Midoriya held every time he fights villains or faces a challenge.
He turned his head and opened the video that broke almost everyone. It would be a much simpler way of handling things in this tense atmosphere.
“Well, I’m sure playing this video is a better explanation.” Nedzu mused.
He had to admit, watching Bakugou’s face become as pale as as sheet when he realized how much trouble he’s in was satisfying. Nothing was better than bullies getting what they deserve.
And the horrified looks on his parents’ faces were even better! Though Inko stayed indifferent. What a shame.
The underground hero next to him cleared his throat. Right, the punishment. Now was not the time to gloat. Though it really was a shame that the circumstances weren’t a fit to his mood, he was still enjoying it.
“We, at UA, do not tolerate bullying. And as much as I am regretful that we haven’t fully looked into Bakugou and Midoriya’s relationship, it was a good thing that we found out now. Regardless Ms.Midoriya, we apologize on having spent time focusing on the villains attack this year rather than the students. Now the punishment will go as follow. Aizawa if you please.”
He gestured for the man to speak. And with every line said, Katsuki Bakugou became more and more agitated.
Oh, if force is needed to escort him out, then force will be used. He didn’t call Midnight and two officers with quirk suppressant cuffs to stand outside his door for nothing.
--*--*--
Hizashi was currently talking to Midoriya in Shouta’s office. The kid was spiting facts about his quirk that he didn’t even know.
When his husband asked him to sit with the kid, he was delighted! But every smile Midoriya gives him, Hizashi’s heart just stops. How can a child this bright and cheerful be treated like dirt over something he lacked control in?
Shouta and him were together when they watched the video. Granted, the whole staff, bar Nedzu, were in the teachers’ lounge. It was a nice, calm day that was later ruined by anger and yells. Though they didn’t yell at each other, no, they each called Aiya and yelled at her.
The second the staff watched it, Toshinori got up and was about to walk out the doors. Nemuri had to use her quirk to calm Toshinori down, or else he would’ve burned Aldera to the ground. Not that anyone would mind that but they would rather leave that job to their boss.
Hizashi knew that the only thing Bakugou is getting was expulsion and if Inko Midoriya was a merciful woman, she wouldn’t press charges. But he knew that wouldn’t be the case.
He didn’t want to think about this anymore, he was tired so he focused on the kid next to him. He created a good distraction since it was well known that Midoriya liked analysis.
Huh, wonder if Nedzu knew that.
--*--*--
His best friend was the one thing he hated.
His best friend was someone Eijiro hated.
His best friend was someone Eijiro had to run away from a lot in middle school.
He thought he was manly. Of course he thought he was manly! The guy was confident, loud and got things to be his way.
Now Eijiro knows that this wasn’t confidence, but arrogance. He was loud to scare them. He called everyone extras and mean nicknames. Was that something serious? Did he really think that about him? Was Eijiro just an extra to him?
What about Midoriya? Oh god, Midoriya!
All this time, the exercises, the taunts and the death threats. Did he really want him to die? He thought they were rivals. They even had nicknames for each other!
But he guessed that wasn’t the case. His best friend, one of the manliest men Eijiro ever met, was a bully.
He briefly sees someone hugging his sobbing figure, maybe it was Shoji.
Mina was sobbing as Uraraka and Jirou tried to calm her down. But even the purple haired girl had tears of her own as Momo rubbed her back. Denki was hugging Sero and both were crying between being squished by Sato and Ojiro. He saw an unreadable expression on Todoroki and Shinsou before they both went up their rooms.
What was supposed to happen now?
--*--*--
That was her baby. Her baby was hurt. All his life, he was hurt and she didn’t realize it was his former best friend.
Inko wanted her baby to be friends with her best friend’s son, just like her and Mitsuki were. But that didn’t happen.
Instead, her baby ended up burnt, scratched, bullied, suicide bated, and treated like shit in general.
He was good at lying and Inko had to admit to herself that she wasn’t as good of a mother as she thought she was. She didn’t take time out of her day to pay attention to the signs, she spent it mostly on her job to make money after her ex-husband stopped helping. She knew that society treated the quirkless like they were nothing. She tried to help, but her pleas went unheard of. She couldn’t do anything.
Now she paid the price.
She held a hard expression on her face and a fire was burning through her veins as she listened; expulsion, therapy, anger management, being watched to not become a villain, blacklisted from every school whether it was hero related or not. So he was not becoming a hero any time soon.
It wasn’t enough. For her, it wasn’t enough. Maybe it was never going to be.
She wanted Aldera to burn to the ground. She knew Nedzu would do exactly that. But she couldn’t help but wanting to work with him. She would make every child that hurt her baby and every teacher that made him feel useless to feel as worthless as they made her son feel.
She ignored it when Katsuki blew up and had to be restraint. She ignored it when Aizawa used his quirk. She ignored it when Midnight used her quirk on a small child. She ignored it when Mitsuki started sobbing in her husband’s arms. She ignored it all.
But then Nedzu asked her if she wanted to press charges.
All her life, Inko Midoriya ignored her son’s hopes and dreams. All her life, she didn’t listen to him.
She knew he would’ve told her that his bully deserves a second chance.
And so, for the last time in her life, Inko Midoriya ignored her son’s choice and made her own.
They talked for a while after the Bakugou’s were taken to the police station. Aizawa then realized how late it was and told her.
Inko nodded to Nedzu as thanks and went on her way. Maybe it was rude but she couldn’t find it in her to care anymore. Though she was definitely calling in later and apologizing.
After some walking, the opened the door to another office that must have been Aizawa’s and Inko tried really hard not to squeal at the sight in front of her.
Both Aizawa’s husband and Izuku were fast asleep with Present Mic’s head on the back of the couch and snoring uncomfortably loud and her baby’s head on his lap.
She saw Aizawa takeing a picture from the corner of her eyes. The woman turned to him and invited him and his husband for dinner next week. She and Izuku needed to talk and knowing them, they’d prolonge that talk throughout the week with lots of crying.
They were a Midoriya after all.
She should also call Aiya, but that won’t be for later.
(In the future, Inko and Izuku took therapy together and on their own. It would take awhile for both of them to move on, but they worked past it. They’d move into a house near Aizawa and Yamada as her son and their kids became as close as siblings. Inko used the money from suing the elementary and middle school and most of the staff and students’ parents as she come to find out that some knew about what went down but still ignored it.
She and Aiya rekindled and started to become closer than before. They would be married within two years from dating. Nedzu, who she became a private assistant and lawyer to, officiated the wedding. Then Izuku’s graduation happened and she heard some rumors from the prison that someone tried escaping, resulting in more years to spend, but she ignored it and continued to cheer her baby on.
Years from now, her baby would become heroes with his friends. She would become more worried every time she sees him fighting on TV but her wife assured that he would be fine. And he was.
He emerged victorious from the fights either alone or with his friends.
Years from now, she would watch with a big smile on her face, Izuku and his some old classmates form an agency with him. It was a popular agency that was known for underground, rescue and limelight work.
She would always remember the time that Izuku told her he adopted a girl that was abused by her owners. She was sold to an old organization because of her quirk. She accepted her grand baby immediately.
Years from now, she would watch as her granddaughter would break down in tears as she has been chosen to be Izuku's successor.)
Right now, she focused on her baby. And the food she wanted to make; maybe she could make Katsudon.
