Chapter Text
"taehyun!"
beomgyu says, slightly too excited when he opens the door, but he then scratches the back of his head and corrects himself, "i mean- hi. it's nice to see you again."
"its... nice to see you too," he says, meaning every bit of it.
the older had definitely changed a lot in the span of two months. his long hair had been cut back down and the highlights that he'd gotten with taehyun were gone- taehyun almost forgot how good he looked with his natural hair. it was obvious that he'd gotten impossibly more attractive. beomgyus eyes held so much in them too- so much happiness, anyone could tell it was difficult for him to contain it. his lips were twitching upwards into a forbidden smile, but he was obviously forcing it smaller.
"don't be shy- come on in," beomgyu waves over, walking into his small living room. "its so cold out."
taehyun didn't even notice the cold until beomgyu had said anything. hesitantly, he walks inside the familiar apartment. when they're both inside and beomgyu has locked the door behind him, taehyun sticks out a small red and green bag, "i- uhm- i got you a present."
when beomgyu's eyes widen in shock, then happiness, taehyun continues while shoving the bag in the older's hands, "it's not much, but i thought it would be rude to come without getting you something. i don't know if your thoughts and tastes have changed in the past two months, but i just thought that it would be a nice gesture and-"
"i love it."
the gift itself is composed of a variety of items, but the main item is a pink scarf- beomgyu's favorite shade too- with small parrots and bears patched on all over it. of course, taehyun hadn't just bought it at a store today- it was obviously something he'd worked on for far longer. it had been something taehyun was working on before they had broken up and it was an item that gave taehyun comfort throughout these last two months. but there was no way he'd say that out loud. if beomgyu noticed the effort, he didn't say a word about it.
other than that, beomgyu’s favorite snacks filled the bag- which taehyun thought he’d appreciate. for his birthday that year, he’d promised to fill up beomgyu’s snack shelf that he’d bought whenever beomgyu wanted it refilled. towards the end of their relationship, taehyun was too busy- or too uncaring- to even think about filling it up, even when beomgyu would complain that it’d been empty for weeks. he supposed that this was his way of saying sorry.
“i got you something too,” beomgyu says, grabbing the nicely wrapped gift under the tree. the two sit down on the older’s couch, while beomgyu places the gift in taehyun’s lap. “it’s also not much… but i promise that i put a lot of thought into it! and uhm- i totally understand if you don’t like it…”
taehyun felt that he could only stare at the present in front of him. it was wrapped so prettily and in the paper that the two had picked out together a year ago. the reindeer on the packaging looked so dumb to the two, beomgyu couldn’t help but buy it.
god, why is it that taehyun only remembers the positive moments in their relationship? it makes him miss beomgyu more than he ever thought he could miss someone who was sitting not even a foot away from him. reminiscing on everything makes taehyun’s heart feel like it’s about to crumble. they’d hurt each other, but they also loved each other- more than either of them thought possible.
“tyun?”
“right,” he shakes himself out of his thoughts, tearing apart the wrapping paper as carefully as he can. inside lies what looks like a twice album- but the spine of it reads “taste of love: taegyu edition”. he blinks a few times, feeling like he’d read it wrong.
“i didn’t know if i should still give it to you,” beomgyu admits with a small, awkward smile. he continues speaking while taehyun flips through the album, finding pictures of the two of them, ranging from age five all the way to their recent photos. “i’ve been working on it since summer and i wanted to make it for you- since twice is your favorite group and all. after we… split, i wanted to finish it- whether or not i gave it to you. it just- it reminds me of you still. it’s okay if you don’t like it or if it’s too much or-”
beomgyu is cut off by taehyun hugging him. tears wet beomgyu’s sweater, but beomgyu finds that he doesn’t care. instead, he just hugs taehyun back. both of them can feel each other’s hearts going thousands of miles per hour, but both of them choose to ignore it. it’s a small thought for both of them. the unspoken words it’s not just me float through their heads.
“hyung.”
“hm?” neither of them make an attempt to move from their hug. taehyun simply mutters the words into beomgyu’s shoulder, small sobs still escaping.
“i missed you so much. and i want you with me again.”
“i do too. but i hurt you. i ruined what we had for years- there’s no way of jumping back into that.”
“of course not. and something i realized was that i need to find out who i am when i’m not with you. i’m not going to mourn our relationship anymore- i refuse to. i want us to be friends. at least to start. we can rebuild the foundation and both of us can make sure we want this again. but this time, we’re older. wiser. more experienced. let’s grow slowly, okay? there’s no rush.”
“you’d really be willing to give me a second chance?”
“i have been- i don’t think i ever wasn’t,” he admits with a small smile. then, he leaves beomgyu’s arms, wiping his tears. “so let’s celebrate our new friendship. no more crying for today!”
beomgyu can’t help but return the smile- especially when taehyun reaches out a hand to help beomgyu stand up off the couch, “no more tears.”
“you still have champagne, right?”
“didn’t you tell me to stop drinking so often?”
“it’s christmas!”
“that’s what i said this morning!” he pouts. “this is so unfair.”
taehyun giggles, going to grab glasses and the alcohol in question, pouring some for both of them. the two sit down across from each other, smiling as taehyun speaks. “to new beginnings?”
and with an impossibly bigger smile, beomgyu repeats with the clink of a glass.
“to new beginnings.”
