Dokja was running late. He ran out of his car immediately after he reached his destination. He saw a familiar figure in the distance and ran towards it
“You’re late,” Joonghyuk told him with a glare
“Hey, it isn’t my fault that it’s a Friday” Dokja defended “I was only a few minutes late too”
Joonghyuk sighed at him and held his hand. Dokja raised his eyebrows in confusion at the younger’s actions.
“What are you doing?” he asked
“Holding your hand”
“But why?”
Joonghyuk didn’t reply and instead dragged Dokja to the ticket booth.
“Welcome to Daehan Themepark” the staff greeted “Are you having the special couple’s discount?”
Dokja was about to say no, but he was interrupted by Joonghyuk.
“Yes please” he replied
The staff went and reached for something under the table “This needs to be worn by the both of you for the discount to apply” she said while giving them a pair of matching headbands.
Joonghyuk took the headband and put one of them on Dokja. After paying, Dokja immediately dragged Joonghyuk to the side with a confused expression.
“What did you just do?”
“What do you mean?”
“What’s with this?” Dokja said while pointing to his headband “And why did you take the couple’s discount?”
Joonghyuk stared at him for a while before replying, “Cause we’re on a date”
“Huh” Dokja stood there in shock before getting his hand held by the younger.
“Let’s go”
The both of them went around the theme park the whole day, slowly getting used to each other’s company. While Joonghyuk wasn’t the most expressive with how he was feeling, Dokja felt like he enjoyed it as much as he did.
The sun was almost setting, and so, the pair decided to ride the Ferris Wheel to watch it. They sat across each other, and silence filled the air as they admired the view.
“So” the silence was surprisingly broken by Joonghyuk
“So what?”
“Did you enjoy it today?”
There was a short pause before Dokja replied, “Yes”.
“Would you like to go on another date?”
As much as he hated to admit it, he really had a great time today. He got to have some fun with the rides, and Joonghyuk even won him some stuff from games. They both learned more about each other in the short period of time that they were together, and they enjoyed each other’s company. He thought that maybe Joonghyuk wasn’t so bad after all.
“Sure” Dokja replied with a small smile on his face.
The two went on more dates together. The first one was a library date that Dokja decided on, and the next one was a date to an aquarium where Joonghyuk took him. The more times they went out together, the more they develop feelings for each other.
Now, Dokja was together with Han Sooyoung in her apartment.
“So what you’re saying now is that you’ve developed feelings for Yoo Joonghyuk,” Sooyoung said
“Yes”
“I never would’ve thought,” she told him sarcastically
“But I don’t think he likes me back…”
Sooyoung was now looking at him with disappointment on her face.
“What?” Dokja asked
“You’re so dumb,” she said “Actually the two of you are so dumb that it hurts”
She stood up, hit the table, and sighs “I don’t know how to make this clearer for you but Yoo Joonghyuk likes you okay! He LIKES you”
“I’m telling you he doesn’t”
“Why are you so oblivious…”
“Fine, let’s say that he does like me,” he said “What am I supposed to do about that?”
“Tell him you like him” Sooyoung replied “Ask him to be your boyfriend”
Dokja stared at his friend “But I don’t know how to”
“You better thank me after this,” she said “Go somewhere special to both of you on your next date, and ask him while you two are together”
“Do you think I’ll actually be able to do it?”
“Yes, yes I’m sure! He’s down bad for you anyways”
“Okay, I’ll do it” Dokja sighed “But if I get rejected, you owe me something alright?”
Sooyoung glared at him “Fine I’ll give you a copy of my next book before the release”
Dokja smiled at her, satisfied with the deal. He wasn’t expecting to have a boyfriend by the end of it, so might as well take advantage of the situation.
Dokja and Joonghyuk were now sitting together in N’Gai cafe, like the first time they met properly.
“Why did you choose our date here all of a sudden” Joonghyuk asked
“I just wanted to let go of the bad memories I had here” Dokja replied “Besides, doesn’t a cafe date sound fun”
Joonghyuk looked at him smiling with shimmering eyes. He was in love, really in love. Of course, he had feelings for Dokja way before, but after being with him and knowing more about him, he couldn’t believe it, but he fell for him even more.
The sun and moon chasing each other, this is how Joonghyuk would describe his feelings for Dokja. He was the moon who kept chasing the sun that made him bright. It felt impossible to reach him, but he got closer and closer to his sun and now he wants to end the chase.
“Kim Dokja,” he said
“Oh, why my full name all of a sudden?”
“I might’ve acted like an asshole back when we met at this very cafe before…” Joonghyuk said while Dokja was giggling at him.
“But I was in love with you… In love to the point that I wanted you to notice me. Seeing you take care of children back when we were in university caught my attention, and without even realizing it, I fell for you”
“What is this? Out of nowhe-” Dokja was cut off by Joonghyuk
“I tried approaching you back then but I wasn’t successful. By the time we graduated, I had just given up. But I didn’t expect to meet you on a Saturday night in my local bookstore, my feelings for you, which I thought were gone, returned”
“I messed up on our first meeting and that made me feel disappointed, and I was really glad you gave me another chance. Then we met each other more often, and amazingly, my feelings for you grew even more”
Joonghyuk paused and slowly took out something from his bag.
“So Kim Dokja,” he said while holding a bouquet of flowers “Would you like to become my boyfriend?”
There was a short silence that followed Joonghyuk’s sudden confession of feelings.
“Bastard” Dokja said silently. This made Joonghyuk feel dejected as he thought that maybe he didn’t have a chance after all.
“I was gathering the courage to ask you out too, but you beat me to it” Dokja continued “Yes, I’ll become your boyfriend”
Joonghyuk, who was looking down, suddenly looked at the older.
“What?” he asked in disbelief
Dokja chuckled “I’ll become your boyfriend you dumbass”
He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He thought he was dreaming, he didn’t think it was reality.
After years of pining and countless misunderstandings, he finally reached the sun he had always wanted to be with.
