Chapter Text
Times change, people change, love changes. Wednesday and Parker returned to spending most of their time together. Despite more confusion from the rest of her family, Wednesday enrolled in the highschool in Assimilation along with Parker when the new school year started.
They would still sit close together and lean on each other. They would sleep in the same bed fairly frequently. Wednesday accepted more hugs and hand-holding, but she still had her boundaries and that was fine.
From time to time, Parker would think about Margaux’s comment about sexuality, but it wasn’t in the forefront of her mind. The more she thought about it, the more she was sure that that would be good, but it wasn’t necessary.
Wednesday continued to work on her weird inventions, and Parker got a little closer to understanding them, but not by much. Instead, she started a youtube channel to post videos about Wednesday’s creations, and over time she focused more on that until it because something of a document to the time the two of them spent together.
‘I notice,’ Wednesday said one day, not long after christmas. ‘That many of the viewers of your online works make comments implying that we are in a romantic relationship.’
Parker nodded. ‘Yeah,’ she said. ‘I told them we’re not, but they don’t listen.’
Wednesday nodded and returned to working on her latest invention.
‘Does it bother you?’ Parker asked.
‘It does not,’ Wednesday said. ‘It interests me.’
Parker nodded. ‘I think… there’s this expectation that if people spend a lot of time together, they must be romantic or something,’ she said. ‘It’s way stronger on the internet, though.’
‘Ah.’
Chat messages started steaming in to the effect of ‘you two would be so cute together’ and ‘you should ask her out Parker’. Parker let them scroll by for a minute.
‘Alright, I’m ending the steam since y’all can’t behave,’ Parker said, and she did.
‘Would you consider a romantic relationship with me?’ she asked Wednesday, and her heart beat faster in her chest when she did.
Wednesday looked up from the machine she was working on. ‘I don’t know,’ she said. She turned to Parker and lifted the welding mask from her face. ‘It is certainly not something I have experience with.’
‘Me neither.’
Wednesday nodded. ‘Do you want our relationship to become romantic?’
Parker tensed, and her heart sped up, she was sure she’d dealt with this idea enough but now that it was coming up, she was really nervous. ‘I guess,’ Parker said. ‘I think… I would like that, yes, but I don’t need it to happen.’
Wednesday nodded. ‘I will give it some thought.’
Parker nodded. ‘Sure, no pressure or anything.’
Wednesday nodded.
Parker lay on Wednesday’s bed, staring up at the trapped and heavily armed ceiling, and let her heart slow of its own accord. She was nervous, and she supposed that was to be expected. Even if Parker didn’t mind the relationship staying platonic, she would prefer it not.
After minute or two, Wednesday lay down on the bed beside her. ‘I have come to a decision,’ she said.
Parker turned over to look. ‘Oh?’
‘I think romance would be an interesting new experience for me,’ Wednesday said. ‘And I do not think there is anyone else I would want to attempt it with.’
Parker nodded, blushed, and her heart sped up again. ‘Oh, cool.’
Wednesday gave her a minute smile and reached out to take Parker’s hand. ‘How does one conduct a romantic relationship?’
‘I guess we could kiss?’
‘Acceptable.’
Parker wriggled on the bed to get closer to Wednesday and took her other hand. She leaned in and pursed her lips a bit and her heart was hammering in her chest. Wednesday’s lips were cool, and the kiss was short and wonderful.
‘That was enjoyable,’ Wednesday said.
‘Yeah.’

The next summer holidays, Gomez announced that they should go on another family vacation. Parker was sitting with Wednesday holding hands under the table. Her heart dropped.
‘I will go only if Parker can accompany us,’ Wednesday said, squeezing Parker’s hand under the table.
‘Of course, my darling,’ Gomez boomed. ‘I would not dream of separating you.’
