Chapter Text
Tommy's eyes snapped open, jumping awake at the sudden sound of the loud clanking of pots. The blond groans, covering his ears.
“What the hell man!?” He shouts, looking over to where the noise came from. His roommate, Tubbo, was above him crashing pots and pans together like a maniac.
“Wakey wakey, fucko! Breakfast is ready.” The brunette announces, tossing the pots and pans to the side. “Ranboo made eggs and toast.” He adds on, a grin on his face.
Tommy groans, flopping off the bed and scratching his head.
”Ain’t this a lovely start to the chapter?” He mutters sarcastically, walking into the dining room. There he saw Ranboo, placing the already made plates of food on the table. The dining room wasn't very big, but there was just enough room for all of them. Ranboo lifts his head, looking over to Tubbo and Tommy.
”Oh, hey guys! Got your plates all ready.” He said with a grin, looking pretty proud of himself. To be honest, no one in his house could cook. Tommy had no idea what he was doing in the kitchen. Tubbo has blown up almost every dish he’s made, and Ranboo just mixes stuff together and hopes for the best. So, by process of elimination, Ranboo is the best cook in the house.
”I can cook just fine, asshat…” Tommy muttered under his breath, taking a seat at the table. He didn’t wait another second before digging in. Tubbo and Ranboo sat down shortly after him, Tubbo having around the same eating mannerisms as Tommy.
“What was that, Tommy?” Ranboo asks, his pointed ears twitching a bit.
”Oh, nothing! Just thinking out loud, you know.” Tommy started eating again before Ranboo could ask more questions. “You guys weren't here when I came home last night.” Tommy comments, shoving eggs into his mouth.
Tubbo and Ranboo glanced at each other for a second. Tubbo looked back at Tommy with a grin.
”We were out getting info.” The brunette replies. “We noticed there were more heroes patrolling around here than usual, so we decided to do some investigating.”
That peaked Tommy's interest.
”Yeah, I had some run in with a few new guys yesterday.” Tommy stated, taking a bite out of his toast. “Whats goin’ on with that?”
”Well, it turns out you’ve made a bit of a name for yourself.” Ranboo says, looking a bit tense as he pokes at his food.
Tubbo nodded. ”Yep, the big leagues have figured out that you're the guy who runs this place. Guess they’re trying to kill two birds with one stone. Protect this part of the city, and arrest a big vigilante.” Tubbo explains, leaning back in his chair. Tommy groaned.
”I had heard something like that was going on, but seriously? What a fucking buzzkill.” Tommy rests his head against his hand. “How’d ya figure all this out, anyway?”
”Well, you already know that Ranboo works in the hero's quarters. I just had him ease drop on a few hero meetings while i kept watch. Nothin’ special.” Tubbo shrugs.
”For some reason I feel like your leaving something out.” Tommy commented with an eyebrow raise.
”May have knocked a few guards unconscious here and there. I didn’t figure it was important to mention it.” Tubbo said with a grin. Tommy grinned right back.
”Good on you.” Tommy stands, pushing his plate forward. “Keep up the good work, aye? I’m heading out.”
”Out? Where?”
”To work.”
Tubbo frowned. “But it’s your day off.”
”I’m just gonna get a drink and be on my way, Tubs. Calm down,” Tommy says with a roll of his eyes. “Ill be back, adios!”
Tubbo mutters some incoherent curses and insults while Ranboo giggles. Tommy grins as he heads out the door.
Most people believed that Theseus was a ‘lone wolf’, that he did everything on his own, but that's the farthest from the truth. He’d be nowhere without his partners in crime. Tubbo was the engineer. He built pretty much all of Tommy's gadgets and equipment. But he’s not just good at that. Tubbo had a type of healing based power, specifically he worked with blood.
Tubbo could manipulate blood to an extent which was really helpful in their kind of business. Whenever Tommy would come home bleeding out, Tubbo could reduce the blood flow in certain areas to slow down the bleeding. Sure, it may make that area of the body a bit numb for a bit, but it’s effective. It's also good for offensive stuff. For example, if he’s on a stealth mission… he could use his powers to slow down blood flow, causing the target to pass out. Tubbo doesn’t actually have a vigilante name yet, since he's not often on the field.
“Thats not true! You just can't come up with a creative name!” Tommy called out as he walked down the sidewalk. Right, forgot he was here. “Dick.”
Anyway…
Ranboo was a bit of a different case.
Ranboo worked in the hero tower, so stealth was their entire game. Ranboo had the ability of superspeed. However, considering how fast they were, they were pretty much invisible when they ran. Due to this, his powers are often mistaken for teleportation or invisibility whenever he's on the playing field. Luckily, he doesn’t have to fight very much, most of the time he just runs in to save Tommy's ass. No hero has yet to see him yet. He goes by the name Enderwalk. Ironic, considering how he runs.
Tommy wouldn't have gotten as far as he had without them.
”You forgot to tell them about me.” Tommy mutters, turning a corner.
Excuse me?
”My powers, you never actually told them about my powers.”
Oh, right.
Then there was Theseus, Tommy, the face of the organization. Theseus had these white and red wings, but that's only the base of what his power is. See, Tommy's wings could light themselves on fire. Honestly, Theseus wasn’t supposed to be his name. He was originally going to go by Phoenix, but a few days after he had become a vigilante, a villain had thrown him off a roof. Because of this, some of the people had nicknamed him Theseus, and that's what people started to know him by. He never had the chance to introduce himself as Phoenix, so he just went with the flow.
”I still think Phoenix would have been way more badass…” The blond pouts, dragging his feet as he walks. “Stupid mythology nerds…”
The boy turns the corner to face a coffee shop. The big bright sign at the top read “Top of the Mornin Coffee”. A small smile grew on his face as he entered, hearing the comforting and familiar sound of the bell ringing as he did.
While he usually would usually be out patrolling when not working, it's early. Some coffee would be nice. Maybe he can even get an employee discount!
Tommy strolls over to the counter, obnoxiously ringing the bell a few times. Eventually, the big man of the house himself walks up, big smile as always.
”Aye, Tommy! Good to see you!” The owner welcomed.
”Ayup, Mr. Jacksepticeye! Hows the shop runnin’ today?” Tommy asks as he leans against the counter. Jack scratches his beard with a chuckle.
”Y’know how it is, this place is always busy.”
“That it is! Only natural, you make the best coffee around! Speaking off, can you get me a Latte?” Tommy dug into his pockets, pulling out his wallet and digging through it for cash.
”No need for that, bud. On the house.” Jack says, already grabbing a cup.
”Well, I mean, are you sure? I can afford it, you know.” Tommy narrowed his eyes. “I don't need any pity.”
”Hey, I ain't pitying you! I know ya can take care of yourself, just felt like bein’ nice today. Besides, its yer day off.” Jack flashed him a smile before turning around and getting to work on Tommy's order.
Tommy sighed, shoving his wallet back in his pocket and taking a seat. Not the discount he was thinking of, but he'd take it.
This place was always one of Tommy's favorite hangout areas. While it's packed most days, there's a lot of familiar faces. This part of the city is small, so there usually aren’t a lot of newcomers. Tommy liked it that way.
There was another ring of the bell as the entrance door opened, but this time it was someone new.
”Oh great, thanks for ruining the mood.” Tommy muttered, looking up at the entrance. It was definitely no one that Tommy had seen before.
It was only one person, a man. He had dark messy curls that went all over his face. He had dark brown eyes and glasses that went right over them. He had a bandaid on his face, and wore a yellow sweater accompanied with jeans and boots.
”Looks like a nerd.” The blond mutters, lowering his glance back at the table to avoid staring.
The newcomer strolled over to the countertop, glancing around the shop as he did. He rang the bell once, and leaned back as he waited. Jack comes out a few seconds later, holding a latte.
”Ah, I’ll be with ya in a second!” He calls out and walks out from around the counter and over to Tommy. The newcomers' eyes followed Jack to his table, and, unfortunately for Tommy, landed right on him. “And here’s your Latte, lad! Enjoy!” Jack places the drink on the table in front of Tommy then heads back to the counter. Luckily, the stranger stopped looking once Jack was back.
Tommy sighed with relief.
The boy took a sip of his drink, then smiled. Jack could make a killer Latte. Tommy once again heard the sound of the door opening, although luckily for him it was some familiar faces this time. The boy looked up to see a short woman with long fluffy hair and horns poking out from underneath her locks, and beside her was a tall man that was covered head to toe in cold and jewels. Tommy grinned, looking up at the newcomers and sending a wave. The women noticed him and began to walk over with a smile.
”Hey Puffy!” Tommy greeted her with a big toothy smile. “And Foolish, of course.”
”Hey Tommy! What are you doing here? Isnt it your day off?” Puffy took a seat at Tommy's table, Foolish doing the same and giving Tommy a little wave.
”Eh, I needed some caffeine in my system.” He said with a shrug as he took another sip of his Latte. “And you? Thought you didn’t like coffee?”
”I don’t.” Puffy taps her fingers against the table. “I’m meeting someone here.”
”Oh? And to think i thought you came just to visit little ol’ me.” Tommy sulks, crossing his arms as he fake pouts. Puffy chuckles and ruffles the boy's hair.
”Oh, quit it!”
They joke around and chat some more, before hearing the bell on the countertop ring. Tommy glanced over.
”Order for Wilbur!” Jack calls out, placing a black coffee on the counter.
”What kinda freak drinks pure black…” Tommy mutters and gagged a bit. He watches as the brunette from earlier walks up and grabs his coffee, nodding his head with thanks. ‘Wilbur? The guy sounds like a historian.’ Tommy thinks, slouching over a bit.
”Oh, Wilbur! I didn’t know you were here already!” Puffy calls out, waving at Wilbur. Tommy's head pokes up, looking from Puffy to Wilbur. Wilbur looks over to Puffy and Foolish, a grin growing on his face as he walks over.
”Puffy! My bad, didn’t see you walk in.” The man rubs the back of his neck.
’Puffy was here to meet him? What buisness does she have with the 80’s poet??’
Tommy thinks to himself as he takes another drink of his Latte, staring at the man. Wilbur turned his head to look at Tommy and raised an eyebrow.
”And this is..?” Wilbur trailed off, glancing back to Puffy.
”Oh! This is Tommy! He’s not part of our little get-together, we were just saying hi.” Puffy explains as she leans back in her chair. Wilbur looked back at Tommy.
”Well, pleasure to meet you Tommy! I’m Wilbur.” He greets, holding his hand out to shake.
Tommy stared at the man's hand. He does not shake it.
”Did I ask?” Tommy asked, leaning his head on his hand.
”Not very friendly, are we?“ Wilbur grins. Puffy chuckles.
”Don’t mind him, he’s a bit of a brat,” She says with a smirk. Tommy lifts his head up and gasps in offense.
”A brat!? How dare you! I thought you loved me!” Tommy sulks, sinking down in his chair as he grasps at his chest. Puffy only broke out into more giggles.
Wilbur chuckles as well. He moves some of his hair out of his face, leaning his hand against the table. “Jeez, kid. Where are your parents?” Wilbur mocks.
”I dont know, where are your bitches?” Tommy bites back. Wilbur lets out a surprised laugh before stammering in offense.
”What!? I get bitches!” The brunette points at the boy. Tommy moved his finger away from his face.
”Really? Where are they? I dont see them.” Tommy spat, a childish grin growing on his face. “You see this Puffy? Your friend here gets no bitches! None, zero.”
” I'm well aware, Toms.” She comments, holding back laughter as Wilbur continues to curse them out.
“What the hell, Puffy!? I thought you were on my side?” Wilbur whines.
”Don’t be mad that she prefers me over you.” Tommy says with a shrug, Puffy giggles.
”Boys please, I dont pick favorites.” Puffy grins, before glancing at Tommy and sending a wink his way.
”What!? You just winked at him! He’s totally your favorite! Puffy!” Wilbur cried, crossing his arms. Oh great, he’s sulking.
”Aren’t you supposed to be a grown man? You're acting more like a child than me.” Tommy teases, enjoying the way he could break this full grown adult with just some words. Sadistic brat.
‘Maybe if he wasnt to funny to watch I wouldn’t enjoy this as much.’
”Boys, calm down.” Puffy raised her voice a bit, motioning around to everyone else in the building who was staring at them.
”Great, thanks for causing a ruckus,” Tommy comments and rolls his eyes. Wilbur mutters curses to himself but keeps quiet.
”I think its time we went to discuss business now, yes?” Puffy looks from Wilbur to Foolish. They both nod. “Alright, good. It was lovely talking to you again, Tommy! We should hang out soon.” Puffy says as she stands, patting down her outfit a bit.
”As long as you don't bring the man-child with you.” Tommy says with a grin, loving the way Wilburs face scrunches up in offense but stays quiet.
”Whatever, shithead.” Puffy ruffles the boys hair. “Okay boys, let's go.” Puffy exclaimed, grabbing them both by their arms and dragging them to a far away table. Tommy only smiled as he finished off his drink.
“Fuck, good stuff.”
Tommy looked up as he saw Jack walking over, leaning against the blonds table.
”Are they friends of yers?” He asks, picking up Tommy's empty coffee cup.
“Puffy and Foolish are, yeah. Not the walking musical though. Just met ‘em.” Tommy says with a shrug.
”He’s definitely an interesting fellow, never seen him around here before.”
”Me neither, him and Puffy were meeting for business or something.” The blond explains, Jack nods.
”He’s definitely… an interesting character, aint he?” Jack laughs in the middle of his sentence.
”You saw that whole melt down he had?” Tommy grinned as he took a glance at Wilbur. He has a lot more of a serious face now, discussing something with Puffy and Foolish. He wondered what they were talking about…
”Sure did, but don't think I didn't notice you pushing it, you shithead.” Jack laughed with a toothy smile, flicking Tommy's forehead. Tommy giggles and pushes Jack's hand away.
”But you have to agree it was pretty funny, man!”
”It was pretty funny.”
Tommy stands up, stretching his arms out with a yawn. He digs his hands through his pocket and pulls out a five dollar bill.
”Here.” He hands it to Jack, who takes it happily. “For all your service, soilder!” He cheered with a playful bow. “I’ll be on my way now!”
“Alright, kid. Stay outta trouble!” Jack called out as Tommy walked to the door.
”No promises!” Tommy called back before exiting the building. He looks up at the sky and takes a moment to breathe the air. The air wasn't the most refreshing, he was in the shitty part of the city after all, but it was still nice. It was still home, his home. The very same home he swore to protect no matter the cost. So what, a bunch of heroes are hunting him down? Who gives a damn? They won't scare him off. He may not keep all his promises, but he intends to keep one. The one he made to protect his home. They could send a hundred heroes his way, but he would never stop. He will fight to protect the people he loves. No matter the cost.
”If this is your way of trying to make me give up, then fuck it! Give me the best you got!” Tommy yelled into the air. There was no response, but he knew he was heard.
Tommy began to walk home. He’d need to get back early if he wanted to patrol tonight.
