Chapter Text
The crowd held its breath. Corpse and I looked at each other. For the first time, it truly set in that Corpse wasn't a girl. It wasn't like I hadn't guessed, but seeing the straight-haired prince in front of me made my heart turn all sorts of loops. He was beautiful, unlike what his letter had said. I could spend every moment of every day of the rest of my life with him if he would let me. He was my soulmate, and I knew it. I turned to face the crowd.
"It's true. I love- I'm in love with Prince Corpse." I told them. They gasped with open mouths. My parents looked on furiously while Toast's eyes widened. I looked to Lily with a silent request for her to give me the letter, and she gave it to me. She looked satisfied with herself.
"And Princess Lily is in love with someone else as well." I sent Lily an apologetic glance, but she just looked happy. She looked at a spot in the crowd.
"I love you, Michael Reeves, and I always have! I love you!" She shouted to the crowd, and a voice responded "I love you too, darling!" I turned back to the Skeld Empire king and queen.
"Your Majesties, there can still be a union between our countries. I would like to take your son's hand in marriage, and your daughter can marry her love as well. We would be good kings, I swear it, if you'll only let us be together." I begged them, and Corpse looked with shocked eyes at my bravery. Lily stood by my side and looked up at my parents.
"I am so sorry, your Highness, for disrupting the wedding... but I cannot marry him. I do not love him! I cannot spend a life as the wife of a man whom I've never met! Please, let us do this for love." Lily appealed to my parents. I recognized the look on their faces when they were going to give in.
Toast stepped next to my parents and whispered something into their ears, and they nodded reluctantly. They then whispered in the ears of the Skeld Empire king and queen, and they nodded as well. It was Corpse's father that finally spoke.
"... Very well. Thomas." He addressed me, and I looked determinedly into his eyes. He looked like he was searching for something.
"Are you in love with my son?" He asked me, and I nodded furiously.
"Yes, sir, I am." I answered. He paused for a moment.
"Do you swear on your life and your honor never to hurt him?" He said, and I nodded. He harrumphed under his breath.
"Alright. Then I suppose... this wedding could still be a union between our kingdoms after all." He said, and I almost squeaked in happiness. I ran over to Corpse and wrapped him in a hug, which he quickly returned. The crowd that had been waiting with bated breath let out a loud cheer that almost shook the floor. Lily ran into the crowd and embraced her boyfriend in a passionate kiss, to which the assembled people let out a collective "awww".
The ceremony went by in a blur, and all I could make out was Corpse putting a ring on my hand. I couldn't believe how happy I was. The assembled people were cheering for us and Lily and Michael the whole time. Through the din of my own head, I heard the minister's voice.
"You may kiss the... groom."
And I did.
