The letter, unsurprisingly, made Inference’s blood boil.
Perhaps calling it a letter was too generous of a wording — the small scrap of paper much more akin to a business card, sleek and elegant on its glossy shine, golden letters curling around each other into the most pretentious calling card Inference had ever seen, the phantom thief proudly announcing his next theft placement, hour and target.
All in code, of course, designed especially for him — a fun game of cat and mouse they played every time, Inference coming too close to catch the infamous Arsène Lupin wannabe, the man in red coming too close to being arrested. It’s insulting, it’s humiliating.
It’s the only case of Inference's whole career that he could never properly solve.
