Chapter Text
“Gahhh! Uraraka! Sorry!” Midoriya had somehow fallen from his bed to… the mall? Oh kami.. How was he gonna explain that to mom?! “Since when could you teleport??”
“I can’t dummy! Now get off of me!” A quick yelp from Izuku and he's off his friend’s back, up on his feet and helping her off the ground as he dusted his shirt and pants, in an attempt to get rid of any dirt that may have gotten onto his clothes.
Now that the shock of teleportation wore off, he could mainly panic at the fact that he just teleported . How had he just teleported? That was so cool! But who... how?. Where even was he?? Did Uraraka do it? Was it a new manifestation?? Oh, that's so cool! Ok, let’s go over the facts, he was in bed, taking a nap after his training, and now he's at.. the mall? What in the world is going on?
He didn't even realize he was mumbling until he spotted Uraraka’s shaking hands. “Deku! You’re mumbling. We don’t know where we are and we need to stay alert!”
“Do you have any idea how we got here? I was getting myself some ice cream and, poof! I’m your pillow!” He at least had the good nature to look sheepish about it until he started talking about their situation again, ”Ok,” He started “it probably wasn’t any sort of villain attack or quirk malfunction because you were about to get ice cream and I was taking a nap in my house.”
“And now we’re at the mall.”
“And now we’re at the mall.” He bit his lip in thought, “Maybe some of our other classmates got teleported as well? It would be best to try and find them and see if they did too.”
She hesitated, still unsure, but Ochako nodded and offered her hand, taking it they began to wander in search of their classmates, though the longer they searched the more confused they became, there were whispers, why were people whispering? Was something happening? Well if something was happening, good thing he forgot to put his gun away. Well, not really a good thing per say, because Mr Brave would chew him out if he had found out Izuku wasn’t being safe with his gun.
“Wonder who Mastermind’s gonna hit next.”
“Hear about that gang who robbed that bank? I mean that had to of been organized by Mastermind, those dunderheads could have never planned that themselves
“Why don't they just catch him already!” They heard a teen groan. “I mean it can't be that hard!” her father looked appalled, as did most of the other people around them, to the two friends’ confusion. “You know why” the father hissed, a slap to his daughter’s head complementing it. “he’s holding the top 50 heroes hostage, you can’t just put handcuffs on him and call it a day!”
…
“What?” It was quiet enough that no one heard the two teenager’s astonished question. Since when was there a supervillain holding the top 50 pro heroes hostage? That was just unheard of. But from the looks and shivers of the other people in the mall, and the other gossip they heard it seemed quite heard of.
“Where in the world are we?” Deku breathed. “Well, certainly not at our mall.” He nodded. “Probably not in our world.” They glanced at each other, and then to the people around them, and back. “Wait, what??” like a switch connected to two lightbulbs, they understood. “Oh kami! How- what- why- haahh?? How does that even work?!”
“Huh. that- that has so many possibilities! But how? And why was it us? That would have so many cool possibilities! What are the limitations? Is there a time limit? Can the user go to different dimensions? Are they able to meet another version of themself? Would they be able to bring an army of pro heroes from one dimension to another? Maybe- no. no, no focus if we are in a different universe,
but we’re in another universe.
This is so cool! What if-”
“Deku!” Uraraka yelled to get his attention, though not loud enough to attract unwanted attention. “You said it yourself, we need to focus. We should try finding out as much as possible about this universe. These people said that there are still heroes, so this world is probably mainly the same as ours, other than… there obviously being a supervillain running loose - But that's not the point! If this world is mainly the same as ours, that means that UA is probably still there so maybe we should try to go there, and find Aizawa-sensei?”
Yea. that made sense, go find Eraser, explain the situation, and eventually go home. Shouldn't be too hard. Right?
And then he made eye contact with himself.
Shit.
Midoriya fell directly onto his face. That wouldn’t have been so bad if it weren’t for the fact that he was not walking on a tile floor. He was in his classroom . Sitting down . Where even is h-
Hatsume - his best friend - landed on Izuku, grinning. “Hey Izu-Kun!” looking around, her face fell slightly, but her grin remained mainly consistent. “Where are we? I was about to put on my hover boots to see if my new additions worked well, but then I landed on you in the mall.” Izuku snorted, but quickly heaved in air, trying to get oxygen into his system all while his friend continued to weigh him down. “I really don’t know Mei but-” he gasped for more air as his friend started to bounce on his back and his voice got more strained, “-if you got off me we might-” he heaved as his voice cracked though he continued, “be able to- to find out.” he managed to get out through his restricted throat.
Mei seemed content enough with his answer to get off him, but that didn’t stop the grin from spreading on her face. She kept grinning as she pulled him up. He stumbled a bit before steadying himself and stretching, popping his joints during the process. The fact that he sat in front of a computer all day during class definitely was not helping his sore back. He really needed to exercise more.
He groaned to himself and rubbed his eyes, slowly adjusting to the lighting change.
He sighed before turning to Mei and smiling, “Let's find out where we are.”
If even possible, Mei’s smile got even bigger. He was convinced she wasn’t human, but whether or not she was a cryptid didn’t matter, they just needed to find out where they were and how to get back to UA. Powerloader was not going to be happy that they suddenly vanished in the middle of him lecturing them.
That was not going to be fun.
Izuku paused for a minute, “Mei, what if Ochako learned how to teleport people to her? Instead of her teleporting to them? That would be so cool!” Izuku’s grin lessened as he looked around.. And didn’t see Uraraka.. Where was she? Did she teleport them? If not, who did? Was it the league? Were they in danger? “Where are we? I mean- we’re at the mall but I can’t see Ochako at all! And have you heard the people whispering about some guy named Mastermind? I’ve never heard of him before!” Mei scrunched up her face in thought. “I have never heard of any people going by Mastermind, and people are talking about him like he’s the bee's knees here or something!”
Izuku had a sinking feeling. Something was off.
They decided to start walking to find out either where they were exactly or who in the world Mastermind is. Or both, they weren’t picky.
As they walked they continued to pick up small conversations, most of which were about, both surprising and unsurprisingly, Mastermind.
They heavily varied about many things about him, both good and bad, but all quite vague, so they couldn’t properly make out who he was or why he was so popular.
“Maybe he’s a pop star!” Mei joked. Izuku hummed, “With a name like that? Maybe he's a famous analyst.” He sighed and looked at her incredulously, but smiled. “Seems more like a supervillain, what with the way everyone is talking about him like he’s taboo.”
“Hah! Touche.”
They went on like that for a while, betting on who this infamous Mastermind was.
And then they heard them.
Two people, a father and his daughter, coming out of a thrift store.
“Why don't they just catch him already!” They heard the daughter groan. “I mean it can't be that hard!” her father looked appalled, as did most of the other people around them, to the two friends’ confusion and interest. “You know why” the father hissed, a slap to his daughter’s head complementing it. “he’s holding the top 50 heroes hostage, you can’t just put handcuffs on him and call it a day!”
The two support students glanced at each other in confusion before having a whispered conversation.
“Are they talking about Mastermind?”
“Probably, but that would mean he’s an actual supervillain, and we’ve never heard of him!”
“What, so we're in another dimension!?”
“I mean- maybe?? To be honest, right now it's not out of the picture, it could actually be kind-”
“Izu.”
That stopped him in his tracks. In all the time he’s known Mei, he doesn't think he’s ever heard her so serious, not even during the USJ attack. “Yea?”
“I think that interdimensional travel thing is actually really far into the picture.”
He followed her gaze to where he was looking and gasped.
Because that was him , with Ochako . “There's two of me. Ohh my kami.. MEI LOOK THERE IS ANOTHER ME!!” He whisper-shouted into her ear. Making her have to wave him away. “Well that certainly confirms the interdimensional space travel but he looks just as surprised as us so that would mean that this probably isn't his world either so maybe there's more of us and-”
“Ok ok ok, space travel talk later, we gotta go talk to your clone. Also, that does not look like our Ochako so she’s probably from his world.”
“Yea yea ok, so, what do we do? Do we just wait until they see us and then we go over and say hi??”
“That's the plan.”
“Meiii!”
“Too late.”
“What-” he glanced over to his counterpart and caught his eye. Then it was pure eye contact while they each examined the other.
Shit.
